Unrooting any android device is really self explanatory...
Delete Superuser.apk and the su binary... done. If it had busybox then that too.
How easy it that?

Will deleting these 2 or 3 things allow Google Movies, Isis, GWallet, and other secure apps to work?
I'm trying to enable access from my Mobile HotSpot connected device through the JunOS Pulse client on my RAZR HD. I have the route entries I need to make as well. Basically I want to root, add the entries, then unroot so it looks stock with this minor exception.
Thanks for the help!

Also only certain Verizon phones are DROID branded. Android =/= DROID.
I can't seem to get my phone to restore back to factory state.
I've been running my Maxx HD rooted since the day I got it a couple of weeks ago and wanted to try out the JB leak. I ran the utility and started my phone in AP Fastboot mode. I plugged it in and the utility recognized and and started doing all the loads, everything seemed to go ok with no failure messages and continued as expected after pressing the any key.
However, when it all seemed to be complete, I restarted the phone and it never actually updated itself. It always comes back to where I was. I've tried both from rooted state and also from temporary unroot state (thanks to OTA rootkeeper)
Anyone have any thoughts on what might be preventing a restore?

I have achieved recovery using the Drop Bionic Bootstrap. Some people have been experiencing difficulties when flashing zips, restoring from Nandroids, etc. so I suggest that you go no further than just getting CWM installed unless you are a seasoned developer.

At this point I would recommend to all that read this thread: DON'T USE the Bionic recovery for anything at this point.
At this point if you are just trying to get a backup use Titanium backup.
It appears that the Bionic recovery structure is slightly different to the Atrix2 recovery structure.
I am looking at the update that was downloaded and uploaded by moofree today, in the bootloader unlock forum. I am looking at it and the one for the bionic and something seems different in the recovery directory of each, I just can't put my finger on it yet though.

Just downloaded it and installed myself, CAN CONFIRM IT WORKS!!!
If we are able to unlock the bootloader looks like overclocking to at least 1.2 ghz on each core will be a given, as the RAZR is going to ship with a OMAP 4430 has 1.2 ghz speeds per core
(I know it was originally going to be a 4460, but check the MOTOdev site, it has been changed to a 4430 sporting 1.2 clock speeds)

This is exactly what we are going to have to do. in fact I am searching these every so often right now, and hoping to get lucky, but since we have such a new device, I am guessing it will be a few weeks at least until we see an update. I am still trying and hoping we get lucky and get an unlocked bootloader in an update that we can flash with RSD.

We are not trying to use the bionic bootloader unlock, just going about getting the unlocked bootloader in the same fashion. We are searching the update servers for the update files for the atrix 2. Then we can pick them apart and figure out if there is an unlocked bootloader in it. Then we can strip that out and use it. We just might get lucky like they have with the Atrix 1 and the Bionic.

Hey guys, a couple quick questions. So this is my first phone I rooted and I think I did it correctly, but I'm confused about the bootstrap thing. I tried to go into recovery mode through CWM to install a new boot up animation and it wouldn't work. Will this bootstrap download fix it? I can't install it because windows says I dont have the right program.. how do I do it? After I install this on my computer, how do I get it to my phone? Move it to my SD card??? How will I be able to tell I'm in recovery mode? Thanks a lot guys
Download this.. http://dl.cvpcs.org/android/test/cyanogen_targa/BionicBootstrap.apk. once u have it downloaded go to your downloads and there it will be, just install it and you now have recovery right now CWM doesn't have any support for us so you won't use CWM
And do this directly from your phone, will save a lot if steps and time
To install the bootstrap.apk it must be on your phone. It is not a program you install on your computer. My advice is download the apk from the link in the post above me while on your ATRIX 2 and once it finishes downloading click(touch) it and it will install. Happy hacking
oh... you do it on your phone... I didnt get that... lol. thanks so much
Always happy to help

BreakDroid is a work in progress. My goal is to make a tool for Mac users that will root several different android phones and tablets as well as install the android sdk (adb).
It is very important to note that I only made the tools to automate these processes. All the developers of the root exploits and recoveries are listed below.
Current supported Devices-
Kindle Fire - Tested Version 6.2.2., 6.3 & 6.3.1
Galaxy Nexus - Seems to work. Tested with version 0.4.2+
Galaxy Note - Needs more testers - Will only work on some notes.
Droid Razr - Should also work on other Droid branded phones
All phones that can be rooted by GingerBreak
All phones that can be rooted by psneuter
All phones that can be rooted by zergRush - has been tested and works on many devices. vCheck the comments on the download page.

Done, everything works fine except one thing.
√ Install Android SDK installs the Android SDK in /home/ folder OK
√ Galaxy Nexus Tools starts OK
X Unlock Galaxy Nexus gives these errors before halting:

Done that manually to test the other options.
√ Install recovery downloads and installs 5.5.0.4 recovery just fine and reboots to it right away.
√ Install root files does what it says, easy and painless.
And... I think that's all, I think it's kinda anoying that everytime you perform one of the steps a new browser window opens with the Paypal donation site, you may want to do that only when quitting the script or something.
Just my 2 cents. I've followed you on Twitter (@migatohacemiau), send me a PM if you need more testing on the bootloader issue

The first update will "fail" since you have CWM installed. So go to choose zip from sdcard, make sure signature verification is off, apply the file. Once you boot up your system apps will update.
Not sure why the screens didn't post, but here they are again.
If you installed voodoo you'll keep root, if not use Paul's root method with insecure boot.img to regain root.

The upgrade gets rejected if you have a modified build.prop or a custom kernel. Have to restore to stock. Kernel is the same though apparently...

Oops, guess I'll read more carefully next time .
Anybody try the SlapMyMoto used on the MotoX (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2538896) on the Ultra/Maxx since the KitKat update?

Hey Einstein, saw your post the the SMM thread. Would you mind posting exactly how you accomplished this step by step?

Any chance you have a link to the update.zip? I'm surprised someone hasn't posted it yet.

My soak came WELL after when they said it would. By then I had already lost root in an FXZ, to prep for OTA. The update.zip will probably be posted by someone soon.

Would the update.zip not reside in your cache for you to grab now that you're rooted again?
It is always deleted, part of the update process. You must be new.

Yeah, unfortunately I flashed back to factory unrooted 4.2.2 per the instructions and now I can't poll the update.
Great.
It works if you follow the instructions with the camera update and what not. I am on 4.4 on my droid maxx with root and Hotspot !!

It appears as though I lost my mobile hotshot. I made sure the entitlement check reads a value of 0, and yet it's still checking the subscription status. Have you done anything extra to enable the hotspot? Thank you for any help.

No you cannot do that. You have to follow the direction before you do the upgrade.

Yes you have to follow the directionsbelow and keep in mind you have to have root as you see the su command is used in adb shell

Yeah it works. Just as Bluh5d says, read instructions, read instructions, read instructions, be on the camera update, take OTA update or sideload (yes it works), and then after the update finish the shell of SlapMyMoto. You just have to read everything, not be in a rush and do what the instructions say.
I wish i could understand why we cant get any development going with this phone. Yes i understand that his phone's stock ROM is pretty good as is, i just like the reason of android (choices). I have been flashing (the past 2 yrs) with the OG razr maxx, and it had a locked bootloader, but thanks to safestrap and a strong community we were able to flash all sorts of roms. I almost want to think we just lack the large community and developers who own this phone. Stupid Moto X and its inferior battery....haha anyway if anyone could explain it a little better for me, i am not so up to speed on c omputer lingo and what not. Thanks!!
Just so you guys know I ran all the steps and when I had to install 4.4 I had messed up the zip file I downloaded. It was in a folder so it didn't take it aborted I then had to extract it from the folder and put it back on my sd card I restarted my phone 2-3 times during this process and it still worked. The way I see it is after you run the commands everything is in place until you take the ota and run adb shell. So if you run into any problems don't panic just make sure your shell commands are right. Oh an added note I thought the phone would reboot after the shell commands and it didn't. So I ran them like 3 times in different ways each line seperate then all together. I figured after the 3rd time I had to reboot the phone manually and it still worked. So this exploit is pretty forgiving if you mess up a little.

Yep, discovered that myself. Strangely ironic it's us who had moded phones are running rooted, once again, on KitKat, and 'pure' phones are the ones being borked by the update!

Biggest hindrance is the new file system of the Maxx. And have you seen the size of the stock ROM? Whole lotta extra crap on it, lots of 'flourish', to. We have safestrap, root, and WP off. Just a matter if time, but the update is extending that due to bricking stock phones.

Hey XDA,
I would really love to flash lolipop custom rom on my phone but it seems that root or downgrading is impossible atm.. The only viable option i see atm is if i do a factory reset but even then im still not sure if it will downgrade...
Any hope here XDA?
Factory reset won't downgrade. If your boot loader is locked, you can't downgrade.

Mate, I'm sorry, but your question has already been answered. Thing is, the same question has been answered more than enough times, so we've become somewhat annoyed by any further repetition... Nothing personal. Although you could've tried searching first
