Hd2 died and had to find a phone, got a g2x! Seems fast and works but I loved having my hd2 rooted and trying different ROMS. I have tried looking at a lot of threads and just can't seem to find anything or anything I can understand. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.
Well you're a little late to the G2x party, although it might start up again soon.
So g2x is one of the easier phones out there to root/rom.

And after that you'll be ready to install your Rom, just visit the g2x Android Development forums and look through them til you see one that you like. The CM9/CM10 based ones aren't really ready yet, but they will be soon. So find one that says CM7 and just look through the threads til you find one you like.
I currently have Hellfire Pheonix on myself. It's not the prettiest stock, but you can change the theme.

Similar to the post above, I recommend finding yourself a cm7 based rom currently until the new su660/990 cm10 based stuff starts floating out. I personally run basic cm7.2 with the faux kernel. All of the cm7 based roms are rock solid stable generally, any of the cm10 based roms you see will have various bugs (gps/data-sms/battery drain/video record/etc). The cm10 roms are usable, just not 100% stable at the moment. Once the cm10 port drops which should be fairly soon, you'll be in good shape with just about anything in terms of reliability.

Than you again for help, Hellfire was nice but people are rude there. Looking for another one who are helpful and im willing to donate at some point.
Try mokeeOS. It's what I use coz its very well themed right out of the gate and a daily driver for me. Everything works as other mention coz it is CM7.2. Once the port for cm9/10 is ready, we'll love our phone more.

A word of advice, be like me and just lurk most of the time, people around here aren't here to teach us untalented people the basics. These saints are here to share and discuss with other developers, not baby us. I read an analogy somewhere "XDA-forums are as if developers are older brothers that just let us play with their toys, but they get annoyed by us easily."

Now that the Vibrant has an ICS ROM currently under development, and since I have read Vibrant ROM's can be ported to the Samsung Galaxy S 4G, does anyone know how feasible this would be? From my understanding the storage is a bit different (partitioning?) but the hardware in these devices appears very similar.
I've read the post about porting Vibrant ROM's but I've also read a few people haven't had much luck. Since I am on leave this coming week I've decided I'll tinker a bit with the concept, I'm also curious if anyone else has.
No doubt, I wish I had the capability to use the source to begin work on a ROM compiled directly towards the SGS4G, but alas I do not
Any ideas or inputs would be greatly appreciated. I am disappointed in the lack of development for this phone, but I do understand why.
Probably won't happen. We don't even have an aosp kernel compiled that I am aware of. Someone was trying to get the KJ6 kernel edited like drhonks and even that didn't turn out.
The couple devs we have left around here are just doing little tweaks and theaming the stock rom lately.... no real new developing afaik.
Kinda sucks... but this phone is pretty much dead in the water.

Yea we are struggling to get a dated cm7 so what makes you think we can get something newer than that.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
@camalus But you do have the kernel released for GB by Samsung as of recent, which from what I've seen others are doing to get ICS working on their devices.
@daxecutioner24 If you can't find it, make it.
@EjLIFE Not going krazy over cm7,ill be fine withput it
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
People, cm kernel is made, just being tweaked, according to krylon. Lets wait patiently, maybe we'll get cm7, then someone will have enough courage to build ICS
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
I'd agree, CM7 would be great to have on this device. And hopefully their development of CM7 could make moving from CM7 to CM9 much more easier. I just know this device should run ICS just as well as the Vibrant, and I've seen people port Vibrant ROM's to the SGS4G so I was curious if one thought their was a faster possibility.
If you are so needy for new ROMs and development then you should do it yourself or be patiently waiting for WIPs the "few" but great developers have announced and not flooding the forum with wine and cheese... Just my two cents... Im just saying...

I know, the devs are great and i feel bad for them for having to put up with alot of crap from other members , but sometimes the devs are assholes too.
Actually, my inquiry was related to the idea of porting the ROM from the Vibrant to this device myself, and asking if anyone with knowledge of doing so if it was even a worthy attempt.
I'm also going to say I have noticed the Samsung side of XDA seems to have only a few developers with knowledge and insight and TONs of people waiting for a chance to flame others. Here is a hint: your post is entirely unconstructive. It isn't your job to protect the developers and when you hop into a thread to shoot your two cents of flame it only details. You are also potentially pushing away the progress others might make by being a douche.
Thanks.

Yes. I get all your comments about how no good is to flame. I dont really care. Just to begin with. I only posted that because people only do is ask and complain about the "few" devs that only do theme-ing and/or their little so called development. Thats flameful and disrespectful itself because if you want some ICS, you can enjoy Ravers Octane. It may not be ICS but you get my idea. This is an old phone, everybody knows that and we just got GB source a few weeks ago. Its not going to be rainning ROMs instantly. Also, GB is older than the phone itself. The Vibrant has been around for maybe 2 years and many people jumped in the first round of Galaxys, probably skipped this Vibrant Plus so then we dont get many users or devs, therefore why so little development. ICS just got out and is available on like three phones whereas the GB have been around and phones now even come with it while we had to start from froyo...
Bah this is pointless debating. Im just sick of these threads talking sh!+ about development here. Everyone should be grateful of what we have. Again, you want something made then do it yourself. Like it or not, its simple like that.
I wont be visiting this so much contributive thread with my so much non contributive posts. And dont mind critizing my typos, English is not my first language.
All of you should call down.
Op, i remember seeing a thread on how to port any vibrant ROM to the sgs4g. It was pretty detailed and very good. Try looking into that to see if you could get a working ics from the vibrant

Same thing, since our phone is so different, wouldn't we need an ICS bootloader and or kernel source for ICS for it to work. CM7 may be here in a month, but ICS won't be here until a year after CM9 comes out, if at all. So, just wait for your 2 year tmo contract to end and switch to sprint and get the galaxy nexus 2(possibly 2012).

Why is it that ever since the Sensation has come out that there is very little to no AOSP support and/or development for it?
The closest we ever seem to have are Sense-stripped ROMs, and it's so annoying.
Now the CM9 team has stopped Sensation development? What the hell is going on?
Is it the Sensation's architecture that renders it just that difficult for our very respected and talented developers to provide such content?
I despise Sense with the deepest passion imaginable. May someone please explain the lack of AOSP support for this amazing device?
Excuse my ranting but I can't hold out for much longer without knowing a clear answer.
i agree with u
Dude, seriously get a grip. Our very own devs are working on it and have a 2nd alpha release already out. Look in the dev section and you'll see the be from virtuous. It's got it's bugs, but it's we'll on its way to stardom. Forget cm9, those people don't know what it means to finish what they start. Take stock in our devs, as they are working their butt off as we speak.
And yes, it's no easy task. Ics is radically new and different. Give it some time and some more Htc release before we have a solid rom.
Matt
First off, yes there is an alpha AOSP ICS from the virtuous team that looks promising. Second, CM did not drop the sensation. Dunno where you got that info. Kmobs just posted this on twitter: https://twitter.com/#!/kmobs/status/160440102626136066

Also, with my previous Android device being the myTouch 4G, it received an AOSP ROM, actually a variety of them rather quickly.

I highly doubt a respected developer such as kmobs would be lying to our faces. While the way CM team operates might be infuriating to us flashaholics, they are secretive for a reason. They want a high quality release with initially all internal efforts. And hey, its gotten them to a millions users, so they must be doing something right.

No one from cm7 has said that development has stopped. These devs have lives and other things to do and other problems to deal with. Kmobs doesn't want to release a buggy Rom which I think is good.

When you pay the CM developers a salary, then you can complain about their release schedules.
When they give you their work for free, it'll come out when they are ready for it to come out and you ought to be grateful.
If it doesn't come out at all, you've got nothing to complain about because you didn't do anything to help it come out.

News flash, they are playing with the idea of charging for things in the future. They want to have their own marketplace and make money on the side for this and that. Check Kmobs g+ for more information. They're going to have to get used to quite a bit more if they want to be successful. Communication is key, and in this case, king. They better get used to a whole lot more the second they receive money for an app.
Also, no one is *****ing about not having cm9 yet, they are *****ing about the secrecy as to whether or not it is even still a possibility. I believe it was mentioned that many other OLDER phones have some version of cm9 already, yet we don't.
Also, they never said cm7 was over either, yet the consensus says that it is. We've heard zip officially about cm9 or cm7.
If this is how they run their future paid for apps business, I'll steer clear as will most. As for now, I'm sure they enjoy the free beers they get from all the donations. It would be a nice gesture of them to give an update about cm9.
Aside from Kmobs and company, it's refreshing to see a group of people working hard on an ics aosp. Once they get a few more things ironed out, I'm sure they will see a lot more donations coming their way.

And I'm stoked about the Virtuous project.
I also understand these concerns of "you're not doing much to help" yet all I'm saying, is that I think a powerful and amazing device such as the Sensation should have more of an AOSP ROM variety. Most other devices have all kinds of AOSP ROMs.
I wish all of us, the Sensation community, would have worried more about AOSP ROMs other than our huge database of Sense based ROMs. Don't get me wrong, however, our Sense ROMs are absolutely amazing and they've helped my patience along with, I'm sure, many other user's patience as well.
This is what i have been thinking since i moved from mytouch 4g to sensation. I just don't know why but it looks like sensation users/developers is not interested in MIUI rom ( i only see 1 MIUI rom, and it not fully working, no update recently).

Actually, the MIUI ROM in the dev section has been updated as of a few days ago. Also there is another highly functional MIUI ROM floating around but linking to it is forbidden. Hit up google if interested.
I think CyanogenMod has to be secretive to function.
You make a good point, I haven't seen hardly any AOSP roms for the sensation besides cyanogenmod. Although I think cyanogenmod 7 is ridiculously fast, and it's aosp, I quite like it...and cm9 beta is available for the sensation, but I agree with the fact that they don't announce ANYTHING...their last update on cm9 was like december 9th.
However, if you think of it from their perspective, can you possibly imagine releasing a buggy beta rom to THAT many people? I mean, the first rom a lot of people hear about is cyanogenmod, so all of the new people would flash that, and we all know how many new people can't read a set of clear instructions...
So, i think that it is almost required for them to keep it on the down low, to avoid mass confusion and complaining from every single user who can't read...It's like when you read the comments morons leave in the market...
anyways, sorry to rant. but Yeah, I think that they pretty much have to be more secretive, not all of their users are active forum members seeking to better the community and not be ignorant.
I've always been curious why A2DP bluetooth and the camera are always the hardest things to fix on most phones when compiling an AOSP ROM. I thought the ROM source would help with that, but I don't know exactly how it works.

From what I understand, both of those things (including wifi hotspot) are kernel related. It's hard to dev's to fix those things without the proper kernel source.

Not new, but have seen people be plain rude and even try to demand things in one on here and that's a quick way to run them off. We actually have a pretty good group here. I just wanted to get the attention of some of the new guys.
I completely agree with you! And I hope what everyone says they keep it respectful! Cause I really hope they don't run off!
As one of the 2 devs in here, I just ask that everyone give lfaber06 and I the time we need to get the job done with quality. Constantly asking or demanding things, and requests for updates and why something takes so long to get out....
Even if it is an "emergency" to you, just hang tight and we will all as a community help you out.
And above all Search first for gosh sake, before posting a new thread. I have seen 10 threads about the new update and root for the new update and how to keep root for the new update.... all of these have been posted as far back as 2 months ago now, for the 2.3.6 update.... we have seen it all in here already with cheesecake.

Never for you!!!! LOL....
Actually I have a decent build of CM7, but ran into a glitch. Both lfaber06 and I are looking at it right now, it was booting, but now it is acting real weird and it won't boot after a flash, and we can't even get anything from logcat on first boot, and lfaber06 saw some even weirder things after the flash and first boot.
So it is back to the drawing board for the moment... lfaber06 and I are both looking at it right now though. I have a feeling that CM7 will be ready before CM9, but I am guessing it is still a few weeks away right now.
So what's happening to v5 of supercharged rom? Is it at a standstill cause of the update?

i think Team WX435 is possible to be a game changer lol, in my opinion, 3 of the top current devs for this device, all working as 1 unit instead of each on their own projects
i've got excitement about what they can do for our device
Right now it's about writing code and fixing problems. What would killer to see is a manual for each release CM7, CM9, AOKP like this
http://www.virginmobileusa.com/resources/phones/prepaid/manual/motorolatriumph.pdf
I don't if anyone has the time or want but it would be nice to see for our phone.
i cant make any promises, but ill take a glance at that and see if i have any ideas, also if you need any testing done on the projects for whatever reason im usually around alot lol

What kind of ROM do you have? GB, CM7, FroYo?
And do you have any code you want to share?
I am looking for beta testers that will test out my first ever rom! its basically a simple rom based off of Scroslers base(don't know if that makes sense lol). what i did was read my good internet friend Edgehood's thread about building your own rom which you can find in the development part of the Verizon SGS3 forums. I read every instruction carefully and came up with my own rom. the rom is called AVID ROM. as i said it is very very VERY basic. no framework changes or anything like that just plain old basic. good thing is that a lot of bloatware has been removed..really all of vzw's stuff is gone. i did use Scroslers rooted base so its rooted already.there are build.prop tweaks as well as initd.prop tweaks but i don't wanna get into that until i have testers that say everything is good. now truth is i want to add A LOT more but im taking it slow like Edgehood said. it does have Sbreen94's custom Zeus Kernel as well(hope he doesnt mind). I am open to all and any help that can be given to me by devs and testers. this is just something fun for me but if yall like it and if i could get some help on doing other things like aroma and even better tweaks and framework...then i can consider building roms and making them the peoples way so with that being said if anyone would like to test my first beta build of AVID ROM please pm me and i will get back to you ASAP. unfortunetly i live in AZ and its 3:45 in the morning so im actually gonna catch some zzzz's right now but i will get back to you later in the day. thank you for reading in advance. Stay Avid!
one more thing credit will be given where its due but as i said im not really writing to much into the rom until testers test it out and maybe if i can get help from devs i could add more stuff before putting out a real release.
