[Q] Recovery mode missing options - Motorola Triumph

I have a Motorola Triumph from VM. I want to load CM7 but when I went into the recovery mode the only options are:
reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
Download nb0 from sdcard
After wiping data the instructions tell me to navigate to "Mounts and storage" I can't navigate anywhere. These are still my only options. I tried the 2nd and 5th menu items but the files are not found. I'm such a noob I don't even know what these would have done anyway.
At present I am stuck with the factory default -- which I HATE. Can anyone explain like you would to a child how I can find the menus to install the ROM I have sitting on the SDCARD?
On a side note, I have seen it demonstrated people using the menu softkey to select but on this phone that softkey is useless, the back button selects and the home button goes back.

Have you installed a custom recovery?

[Q] hanging at splash screen... no dice at all.... please help

Good evening folks.
I followed these directions TO THE LETTER
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245
When it comes to the reboot after the the rom installs, and we wipe the data and reboot again.
once it reboots, it just hangs at the gtablet screen.
I did notice when i wiped the settings, it said something about apps2sd not being found. not sure if thats related.
would LOVE some help on this. just bought it due to a friends recomendation (sold my ipad) and want to get it running.
thanks
Can you reboot into Recovery (start up while holding down the Volume Up key)? If you can and you have ClockworkMod installed clear cache and wipe data. Restart. Let us know what happens.
If you can get it to recovery and wipe of data and cash still gives you no full boot reboot into recovery and repartition.
From the post you linked,
Step 7. Re-Partition your Tablet: In order to make sure the Android Market works correctly after installing any ROM, we must re-partition the device. Select the advanced option at the bottom of the ClockworkMod menu, then go to “partition SD card”, for the first option select 2048, and for the second option select 0. This erases data on your tablet. Be prepared.
did it
i have done the wiping etc a few times. im doing it again as we speak and ill post the results. BUT here is the exact error i get when i run wipe data
No apps2sd partition found. skipping format of sd-ext
not sure if that matters.
EDIT : and yes, i can still get in to clockworkmod np, and run all the commands. but im just not getting it to boot after following all instructions. still hanging at the splash screen (gtablet)
Try an SD repartition next (also in clockworkmod, under Advanced). 2048 and 0 for the settings and it will take about 10 minutes to run.
Also, this will wipe /sdcard and /data, so keep that in mind.
yeah, it will wipe the entire internal memory. but i have done that 2-3 times now, full wipe, redid the entire process again. no go.
i will give it a go again though. and yes the partitioning does take some time
EDIT : SUCCESS... i didnt go back and format again. all i did was re-run the zip install without reformatting, then wiped cache, then cleared the rest. now im in to the OS at least. now to see if market works
What rom are you trying to install?
The apps2sd message is normal BTW.
Edit: glad you got it working.

[Q] Nexus S I9023 stability problems

Hi guys. A few months back I got a Nexus S i9023. I got it second-hand and it had already had installed CWMod, Matr1x Kernel, NSCollab Mod and Super User.
As it is my first Android phone, I don't know much about custom ROMs, Kernels and Mods.
Now it has stability problems: it freezes (the screen is black and it doesn't do anything) and I have to take out the battery or in videos, it freezes and reboots. Also, when I connect it to the PC, I see lots of files and I don’t know if they should be there or not.
I'm looking for a few answers on how to make it work. Either to install ICS 4.0.3 or flash back to the original ROM and wait for OTA update. And where can I get these.
What do you recommend doing? And where can I get stable ROMs, kernels or Mods. I don't know what they each do exactly, so, if you have the time, please explain to me what they all are.
Thx a bunch!
The stickies in the general section ... you need to go there for the how to . Basically you need to unlock your bootloader if locked, install a custom recovery and from the recovery flash a stock rom or any other and you'll be set.
You are already unlocked and rooted (since you have this installed CWMod, Matr1x Kernel, NSCollab Mod and Super User). You need to start reading about ROMS in the development section. There are a lot of custom ROMs with ICS that work amazingly. You can also check bedalus work on benchmarking ICS:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1481856
I would recommend:
CMv9
Bugless Beast
Codename
Nuhetri
To install them, download ROM, copy to SDCARD, boot into recovery (if phone is shutdown, press volume up + power to get into bootloader). From here, select recovery (using volume+ and volume- to move within options and power button to select).
Once in recovery, make sure you follow instructions from the OP to install ROM. Some ROMs would need a full wipe, others might require Cache and Dalvik, etc.
Erase Cache: 'Wipe cache partition' and confirm with 'Yes - Wipe Cache'
Erase Dalvik: 'Advanced' | 'Wipe Dalvik Cache', confirm
Full Wipe (including Cache and Dalvik):
-Wipe 'Data/factory reset' and confirm
-Go to 'mounts and Storage'
format system
format cache
format data
format boot
To install ROM, go into 'Install Zip from sdcard' | 'Choose Zip from sdcard' | Select .zip file of ROM you decided and select it.

CMv9 is only a Mod? I mean I have to install it separately from ICS?
thank you for the info, I'll get right on it.

Is it safe to format tablet?

hi.
I have applied several custom ROMs and apparently each install overwrites previous but some folders remain the same.
It's there a way to make sure everything is cleared before installing a new ROM?
What about the format options in CWM?
I'm using nexness pro2 rom, installed with CWM.
THANX
Walter
There should be an option to wipe data in settings. This should have the desired effect.

There is indeed an option to Wipe Data/Factory reset, however this option doesn't seem to delete old folders in the sd card (even the internal storage /storage/sdcard0).
For example, if i have an application installed and it creates some folder in the root of the /storage/sdcard0, this folder will not be removed when I do a wipe. Does that make sense?
I've read that this is how it's meant to be, since some devices don't have an external SD card, so it would be hard to flash a new ROM if sdcard0 was wiped.
That being said, I would ask, is it safe to ADB into it, and then delete everything from there?
Is there any other "better" option to make sure I have a clean/fresh start?
Thanks.
Walter
You can try the hard reset code from the dialer *2767*3855# not sure if it works on the 7.7 though. You could painfully delete items with root explorer, just be sure they aren't being used by your current rom.

These are instructions from a post in the General section. They maybe helpful. Specifically, step six - if you research some of the older posts you find discussions regarding complete wipes.
How to Flash A Custom ROM-
Download a ROM of your choice from the All Things Root section (The Forum you are in) You can find direct links to each of them in the All Things Root Guide that is stickied at the top of this forum.
1- Once downloaded, its recommended to download it from your computer and place it on your phone, put it on the root of your internal or external sd cards. Root meaning not in a folder.
2- Reboot into recovery using Quick Reboot.
3- Using your volume keys to scroll and your power key to select, scroll down tand select "Wipe data/Factory Reset" then scroll to "Yes" and select.
4- Scroll down and select "Wipe Cache Partition" and then select "Yes"
5- Scroll down and select "Advanced" and select "Wipe Dalvik Cache" and then select "Yes" then scroll down and select "Go Back"
6- Sroll down and select "mounts and storage" then scroll down and select ONLY these 3 listed, "format data" and then select "Yes", then scroll down and select "format cache" and then select "Yes", then scroll down and select "format system" and then select "Yes". Then scroll down to and select "Go Back"
7- Then scroll down to "Install Zip From Sd", if you put the ROM on your external SD card select "choose zip from SD". If you put it on your internal scroll down and select 'choose zip from internal". Then after you selected one of those depended on where you put the ROM, scroll down and select the ROM and then Select "Yes".
the rest i am sure you have done before. Hope this helps.

i do the same steps enumerated above whenever i flash a new firmware. in addition to that i also wipe the internal sdcard to remove old folders/files.
take note that you need CWM to do that.
DON'T DO ANY FACTORY RESET/WIPE/FORMAT from SETTINGS/STOCK RECOVERYif you are using ICS because you risk frying your EMMC.

Hi there!
It looks to me that you are missing a few steps there.
First of all enter into Recovery (CWM) and do a Backup so that you can always restore to where you were!
Assuming that you have obviously put the zip on your SD just continue in Recovery.
Scroll down to Wipe Data/Factory Reset
Scroll down to Yes Delete all user data
Scroll down to install zip from SDcard
Choose zip from SDcard
Scroll down to your zip file and install
Well mate according to the developer the Wipe Data/Factory Reset is all you need but see how you go and let me know if it worked for you!
Oh and don't forget to hit Thanks!

I forgot mention all this above..... i've done all this and yet no gain
Hi again...do not worry. Let's add some other steps:
Open Recovery and repeat the Wipe Data/Factory Reset step above and add these steps below:
Wipe Cache Partition
Scroll down to Advanced
Choose Wipe Dalvik Cache
Go back to main menu
Scroll down to and choose Mounts and Storage
Then choose these 3 steps, each at the time, always scrolling down to yes and going back to the same place after each format is completed.
Format /Cache
Format /Data
Format / System
Then do the following steps like Install zip from SDcard, etc.
Now!!! That has to work......lol
Let me know how it went for you. I am assuming you can still get into your CWM right?
Oh and don't forget to hit THANKS.

[Q] hard reset - I can't do

Hello,
I try to hard reset my Desire S but with no success.
What I do? Take off bettery, insert battery and enter to boot menu where are options:
fastboot
recovery
factory reset
simlock
image cre
Which option I must select now?
When I select FACTORY RESET I have next options:
reboot now
instal from sdcard
toggle usb storage
wipe/format
backup/restore
EXT3-4EXT-EXT4
mounts/storage
advanced
power menu
When I select REBOOT NOW then phone reboot but my android is without changes, all installed applications are still, memory isn't cleared.
What I do wrong? How to hard reset my Desire S?
That second menu is a custom recovery.
You could select wipe/format, then wipe data/Factory reset. That would clear all user Apps, settings, contacts etc.
Thanks. You are right.
