[Q] Differences between ARHD & CM - HTC Sensation

Hi there, as title says, could someone please tell me, in a "schematic" way, the main differences/pro-cons between latest android revolution hd (6.8.0) and the latest CYANOGEN MOD both stable (9.1.0) and nightly build for HTC Sensation XE (w beats)?
Thank you very much!

ARHD is a Sense 3.6 ROM that's really fast and stable.
CM9 is stock android (ICS) without Sense.
CM10 is stock android (Jellybean) without Sense.
It's all down to personal preference. Test them out for yourself.

Thanks for the reply! But in specific, apart from having htc sense, in what they differ? For instance: battery usage, having or not beats, kernels, stability, cpu mhz and so on...

Hi,
As sromer said, test it for yourself.
Make a nandroid, and run them in turn.
Then,YOU will see exactly how they run for YOU.
Everyone uses their phones differently.
YOU are the ONLY judge on how YOU use the phone...

I think the main difference between these two Roms is that the CyanogenMod is pure Android based open source replacement firmware for smart phones. Whereas, ARHD is based on firmwares released by HTC for their cellphones.. (Someone correct me if I am wrong )

I know that htc sense obviously is not included in CM, but is it possible to keep Beats Audio on CM?

[Q] What's ROM is better for you?

Good evening
I just read the new ViperSs 1.0 ROM and it looks awesome! I have ARHD 6.6.7 with faux kernel and HQ camera MOD, and I want to change to something new, maybe Sense 4.0 based on news HTC's or non-Sense ROM (Cyanogenmod or MIUI).
I like CyanogenMod, but there is no stable version yet.
MIUI has a spanish stable version based on v2.4.27.
ViperSs ROM have only one bug: HDMI out doesn't work, but it isn't a problem for me. ARHD and ViperSs are very similar in features, but ViperSs use bricked kernel. I didn't use it before, but it seems very good.
Is there another ROM with new features? What ROM you recommend me?
Thank you in advance!
I'm downloading ViperSs now at the moment ARHD 6.6.4 and I haven't used any other Rom in my Sensation, so is the moment to try another one

I think so. ARHD is a very stable ROM, but I want something new and I want it now! xD I'm waiting for your first impression of ViperSs =)
It all comes down to your personal
taste. I always liked the sense look and feel. I'm running the new Viper ROM right now and it is really fast.

Obligatory mention of MIUI. Now that certain websites are building for the Sensation from source, AOSP and Sense based, you get some serious performance and some really great software.
But that's only if you want to let go of Sense.

i agree its just to hard to let go of the htc camera and a couple widgets that cannot be matched on any other rom.
i prefer NonSense roms, caus i dont like sense, and rom is much smoother without it...
i like Asop but for me, battery life is not as good as on sense based roms...
just moved to viperss, after using arhd such a long time and i believe sense 4 is a little faster in applications however scrolling is very slow on all sense 4 roms, i tried elegancia, ordroid, insertcoin evolution and at the end viperss all have scrolling problem, maybe not a problem but i got used to scroll fast
Trying out viper now. So far amazing battery life and the viper tweaks are cool!

Thank you to all. I think I'll try ViperSs ROM and if I don't like it, I'll try non-Sense ROM like MIUI.
CM not is a stable ROM, that's true. My girlfriend has CM 7.2 and she has some important bugs...
I'll post my experiences with new ROMs! ;-)
Thank you again!

tray ORDROID 9.0 very stable and sense 4.0. bricked is one of the best kernels I have tested... so i recommend that combination... good luck!
I think you will be happy with viper.i know the battery life seemed better than ordroid . I'm actually quite shocked at how great the battery is on viper. Its always been a issue in the past now its great. Also haven't tried yet but wifi tethering is supposed to work. Only bug reported so far is HDMI output. I'm running now will try out tethering soon.

One question, What wipe I have to use to flash viperS ROM? SuperWipe of ARHD or wipe all data of 4EXT Recovery?
I suppose that the method is:
.- Backup old ROM, apps and SMS/contacts (personal information in general).
.- Reboot into recovery
.- Wipe all.
.- Install from SD card
END =)

The ViperS installer makes a full wipe at the beginning I think...let's see, when I changed from ARHD to ViperS I flashed "ARHD Super Wipe", then wipe all from 4ext, and then flashed the new rom btw I remember that those wipes deleted my games data (like N.O.V.A. or Asphalt downloaded data)...the "Android" folder one.

[Q] Why don't we have a stock vanilla ics rom on this phone?

I come from using a nexus one, and before that a g1, so I am used to having vanilla android on my phone or at least having the option to have it. I bought the one S when my phone broke down thinking that the htc sense UI would not be such bad thing. However after a few weeks I still can't seem to get used to it and actually have grown to hate it. I installed a rom that doesn't have most of sense but it still doesn't have the same feel. So getting to my question, why isn't there a rom that is just plain ics without sense. Will this ever be available?
Also kind of off topic, but why was sense ever created? I understand that htc wanted to put a twist on android but wouldn't it be enough to create the apps and widgets? I feel like some of the key features of android are lost and for little gain. What is going to happen when jelly bean rolls out? Will one S owners have to wait more while htc tweaks it to work with sense again? I have gotten really used to the hardware aspects of this phone but I am contemplating switching over to a galaxy nexus just for the benefit of having vanilla android and having more development support.
Have you tried CM9 or Paranoid?

that differen kernel is still based on a heavy "sensed" one by HTC. easily tested by it's multitasking ability or lack thereof. i don't think anybody "de-sensed" it completely yet.
HTC One S via XDA
CM9, AOKP and Parandroid are not sense Based. Ohe kernel is not sense based. a good example is MIUI, there are 2 MIUI builds, one is AOSP based (based on CM9) and the other one is sense Based.
Want proof by your own? flash CM9 or AOKP and flash a sense kernel on top of it and try to boot the phone. you will get a boot loop.
CM9 is the closest you will get to an AOSP pure vainilla rom since is based on it.
You guys on the first page must be pretty challenged... CM9, AOKP, and PARANOID are based off the the CM9 source. They have NOTHING to do with Sense. The only Sense based ROM (not stock ROMs, IE TrickDroid) is one version of MIUI as it has the stock Sense camera and such...
Sense was created because it's what HTC wanted. Why is there TouchWiz, Moto Blur, or anything else like that? It's because the device manufacturers wanted their own version. Thank the dev team for the option to switch different version of Android... We will only have AOSP ROMs and not ever stock ICS (no mods) ROMs because there is no stock ICS for our device. Only Sense or AOSP.

That's really funny that you're calling him out when CM is definitely not stock vanilla ics.
So, the easiest answer to this question is because no one, including the OP, has created one yet, if its even possible with what there is to work with.
I'm actually pretty happy with all of the options devs have created for this phone.
only "nexus" phones have vanilla ics

What does "stock ICS" actually mean in this context? AOSP is the true Android experience as Google intended, right? So, is stock ICS something else?
So we can get:
AOSP - original;
AOSP - customized;
Sense - original (default)
Sense - customized.
Is this correct?
Wouldn't we be able to get TouchWiz ROMs, for example?
I'm new to flashing ROMs and all, but I've been following the scene for the past few months, and even though I can say I'm among the brighter people, I still have difficulties understanding - mostly - the nomenclature of the scene.
We don't have it because is EVIL. That stupid google search gadget permanently stuck to all pages is ridiculously stupid. Plus indeed a lot of the interface. HTC Sense is like a cool breeze.
well i come from HTC Sensation ROMS, and in that sections there are a lots of "Senseless ROMS" where everything related with sense is removed, except for the camera, and the roms were so smooth and as fast as AOSP ROMS, the feeling was exactly the same,
I hope someone make a senseless rom for HTC One S soon because its really awesome (like a AOSP rom without any bug becaus its based on a sense rom byt without any sense part)

There are AOSP roms; they are just in the alpha stage of development and rather buggy in some areas. If you want a senseless ROM (as in the actual sense launcher removed), any of the HTC-based roms (including stock, non-rooted phones) can have Sense removed and replaced by any launcher from the market. I've tried the existing AOSP roms, and aside from the bugs... the stripped down HTC-roms as just a quick.

Best rom for me

Im going to root my sensation in the coming days/weeks, and I want to install a sense 3.6 rom that has........
Longer battery life then stock
Really stabile
Fast
And a good camera/or stock camera
What would be a good rom for these given specifications.
Thanks.

I second the notion.
If the stock look and feel with a bit more stability are your criteria then ARHD is your choice.
However if you want some more options, tweaks, and customized UI then explore some of the other sense ROMS.
If Sense is critical to you, avoid all AOKP AOSP and Cyanogen ROMS.
Don't be lazy and find it yourself.

ARHD ftw if you like sense
revolution hd would be my recommendation as well
After root, flash showp1984 kernel.
No need ARHD.

I would recommend insert coin. It is so much faster tan ARHD in my opinion.
You should try a few! Currently on Frankinstine's JB aokp. Happy flashing!
Vipers 1.1.0 is quite good. I keep getting bored of Sense ROM's so I keep switching .
On my Sensation I prefer something light and fast. I currently using JB AOKP and trying out the JB MIUI as well. Try AOKP, MIUI, or AOSP builds as they make the Sensation a lot faster. If you want a Sense build ARHD and Baadnews are good. If you want Sense 4.0 then try ViperS rom.
After you try out a rom for a couple of days, then try out a Kernel. There are a few different options, depending if you do a AOSP or Sense base Rom.
I have used Virtuous Inquisition for a long time now. Not a single problem. Fast, Excellent battery life, and very stable.
I would also recommend ARHD.
You may also want to check out Virtuous Inquisition if you can do without Sense. I was running it for quite a few months and it was great. Long battery life and stable.
Check out a few and see what you like the most.
-----------------------------
Current Device: HTC Sensation 4G S-off/Super CID
Current Rom: CyanogenMod 10 (Bruce2728 Beta)
Previous Rom: Virtuous Inquisition
Kernel: Stock
Recovery: 4EXT
Previous Device: NexusOne
ARHD for stock look and its fast (slightly better battery life than stock) Downside its Sense 3.6
Viper S little slower compared to ARHD but tons of tweaks and Sense 4.0 (same battery as ARHD)
Happy hunting.
Hi there, you really need to try SEVERAL out for yourself because what might be right for someone else might not at all be what your looking for! Everyone has different opinions and its ALWAYS best to form YOUR own opinion. This is the fun part the experimentation! Please take my advice , read the change logs on the roms, if one catches your eye, try it! Make sure you do to your nandroid backups and shop around.we are fortunate to have so many available! Do your self a favor and try out many!

Thanks for the response. Is Mikhei777 sense 4.1 retains it's original 4.1 looks? I have tried Elegancia ROMs but it seems like it's fully themed and integrated all those special tweaks. Yes, Elegancia has the original-look ROM but still, it's fully tweaked. I was hoping it was like ARHD ROM. Sorry, I am not against themed ROM, but I think not that very obvious.

So.... did you try any of the ones that were recommended? I am really looking for a good 4.1 Rom. I bought a sensation from a friend and it came with Cyanogenmod (10.1 I think )... way too laggy, stuff kept shutting down, took forever to go back to the homescreen when pressing HOME... so I tried one called SuperXE... supposed to be super basic, and it is... maybe a bit too basic... it did improve performance a lot compared to CM but still feel the phone should run better. I came from a stock Gingerbread Inspire 4G (with bloatware and all)... and the sensation seems way slower in comparison. I've been considering going to ICS on ARHD, reading tutorials and how to do it but to be honest I'm 1)too much of a noob to tell if that can be done without any problems since I'm already on jellybean 2)afraid I might brick the phone.

just put the rom.zip in your sdcard and flash it from recovery

All ROMs are for both Sensation and Sensation XE (as it is the same device). If you are not unlocked, read the guides available in the General discussion forum. And then just choose the ROM you'd like to use from the Development forum.. All promise good performance, but it's up to your taste to choose really. Some are "smoother" than others, and it's for you to try and find your preffered one.

I did not mention any ROM, I gave you a link to the development forum. There are many ROMs available, Read about them and chose according to your preference. There are Sense 3.6/4.1/4+ (and soon even 5), there is AOSP, CyanogenMod (and quite a few actually).
Currently, my daily driver is albinoman's CM10.1, which is quite good (but it's not sense, if that's what you're after).
Read the ROM threads, see comments, and choose for yourself. Android 4.1 and up are usually very smooth, because of project butter. but many ICS (Android 4.0) ROMs are quite smooth too.

ViperS Sense 4.1 is without bugs. I used it for a couple of months, quite stable (and I even tortured it a little).
As I said, Sense 5 will be available soon, it's now in testing, and when it will be ready, they will open a thread for it. For now there is sense 4.1 (which is stable), and Sense 4+ that is considered quite stable - many people use it as their daily driver, but There might be some bugs still, but will be ironed out in the future.

Nope, but you can try it yourself. You should get your own experience. see what people comment (they may point to issues). Just try what seems good to you. Remember to make a backup, and if you don't like a ROM, just revert to your old one or flash another.
I won't give my opinions on particular ROMs as it can go on forever and it's subjective.
If I helped, press the "thanks" button.
