Gamestop extended warranty scam - General Topics

On July I've bought a TF300T on Gamestop... I've also bought the extended warranty...
Since few weeks ago I'm having some serious problems with the touchscreen, First it shows red areas where it is suposed to be black, some distortions, also shows some "ghost dots" like if someone was touching it even if no one is touching it, and most recently, sometimes with the tablet turned on the screen becomes completely dark or won't turn on at all.
Asus won't fix it since their warranty seal is broken and is unlocked (via asus unlock app but not rooted)...since here where I live Asus won't reach me a I took the device for repair since I need it for work...the guy told me that it's a factory problem... so no one can fix it but Asus...
The problem is that the seller at GameStop told me that the extended warranty would cover any changes on my device he said ANYTHING... etc... said that,,,
I went to the gameStop and they told me that their warranty will be valid only when Asus warranty expires,,, so I will have to keep the broken tablet for one year!!!!
Lessons learned:
1- NEVER BUY ON GAMESTOP AGAIN;
2- IF IN THERE'S NO OTHER GAME STORE ON THE PLANET... NEVER BUY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY
3- I WILL HAVE TO BUY AN IPAD.... SINCE A FRIEND HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE SCREEN RESPONSE AND APPLE GAVE HIM A NEW ONE....

Why was the seal broken?
It's also common knowledge that most extended warrentees are useless. It sounds like you should be raising it as an issue with your countries consumer commission or ombudsman.
Did you read the conditions on the warrenty before you signed it?
And yes you may be mad but keep the pro apple propaganda out of it. It's flamebait

That doesn't make sense to me. If you received accidental coverage on the device they should honor the damage. You should always read over the entire contract before agreeing to it. I hope you know what deductible you agreed to as well, if there is one.
I've been screwed over several times in the passed based on what the representative said not being true. This is why I make them point out everything they are saying in the contract. Also keep a copy of the contract for your records.

Captivate bricked by update, warranty denied

Hopefully this is not a trend...
My daughter, who is away at school, received a notice on her phone a couple of weeks back that there was an updated available. She was a bit nervous about doing it so waited until she was home over the weekend a week and a half ago and asked me about it. I told her to go ahead and do it. She hit the button to install the update. It downloaded, displayed an error message and the phone turned off. It wouldn't turn back on. We searched a bit, tried all the known key combinations to reset it, but it was a brick.
So the next day I headed over to the AT&T store. They tried a few things and agreed that it was dead. They checked the phone over and stated there was no physical or water damage. They contacted the warranty center over the phone, arranged for the return and handed me the phone handset to agree to terms. Turns out the only way they would warranty the phone is if I sent them the phone and agreed, in advance, to pay $459 if they decided it was not a warranty issue. I asked for clarification, repeated what had happened, and they just kept saying that was the requirement. I mentioned that the store rep and manager had already checked the phone, that there was no physical or water damage, and tried to understand why I would still have to agree to these terms. I asked if they would just agree to send the phone back if there was any other problem. They just kept repeating the same thing, I had to agree to the $459 potential charge with no recourse. They kept stating that I "would probably not be charged." I would not agree and asked the agent and manager on duty if there were any other options. They mentioned an AT&T service center about a half an hour away.
The store wrote me a referral to the service center and told me they could replace the phone on the spot. So off I went. A half an hour car drive and a wait in line and I was informed by the service center staff that they do not stock the Captivate and it would have to be returned to a warranty center. I said, do it. They said, no, I have to return it and that meant -- you guessed it -- agreeing to the same terms. Needless to say I was a bit frustrated at this point. So a half an hour drive home to cool off... or not.
The following day I started searching and found stories of people getting warranty service through Samsung. Wondering what their warranty terms are, I phoned Samsung's number. After repeating the phone death story, they said it was a warranty issue and emailed me a shipping label to send it back. Happy that things were looking up, I boxed it up and sent it off.
Fast forward a week and I just received a notification from Samsung that the phone is being returned, unrepaired. Here is the verbage used:
"Original Problem:

No Power Up
Problem found:
CORROSION, LIQUID DAMAGE
ABUSE / CORROSION

I get on the phone with Samsung, inform them the phone has never been wet, that both I and the AT&T folks looked at it and the water indicators showed no exposure. They explained that their service personnel do "a very thorough inspection" and that is their determination. Done. Discussion ensued, but there was absolutely no willingness on their part to take another look at the phone, explain further, or otherwise help.
So I'm out $200 plus a two-year contract or ETF fee with AT&T on a three month old phone. My daughter is quite meticulous with this sort of thing and trustworthy and tells me the phone has not been wet. I believe her. The liquid indicators agree. The phone died during an update that I now see is notorious for bricking phones. Both AT&T and Samsung would rather push it off on a customer than stand behind their product. I've been a Cingular/AT&T customer for over ten years, but apparently that's irrelevant.
So that's my story. Consider yourself warned.
BTW, if anyone figures out how to "unbrick" a phone in this state (won't turn on at all after failed update) I'd love to hear about it as the phone is physically fine.
Should have dealt with wal-mart, I got my captivate from wal-mart and for whatever reason my usb port stated that it was connected all the time. I could not boot my phone without physically plugging in and waiting for the battery charge indicator to come on. If I tried to get into recovery mode it would automatically boot into download mode so this told me that there was an actual physical problem with my usb port somewhere somehow. Took it to wal-mart explained to them what was going on they replaced it on the spot no questions.
That's odd. Happened to me too and att store exchanged it right away. Did you purchase it from att or a retailer? If from att, call cs, they will replace it. If you didn't buy from att, you are stuck with samsung...

You get 1-year warranty from AT&T, not Samsung. And the terms you mentioned are normal terms for warranty exchange. Typically, they mail you the replacement, a refurb, with mailing labels and instructions for you to mail back your old phone. Track the mail and make sure your phone arrived at AT&T facility and you're done. If the phone is lost in the mail or you failed to mail it back in time, you will be charged by that amount.
Nothing special. That's how warranty exchange works all the time. Many here has made exchanges couple times.

Yes. Purchased at AT&T retail store. Returned there with the problem. They would not replace it at the store. Their terms were that I had to agree to potential $459 charge with no recourse if they determined that it was not a warranty issue before they would issue an RMA. Spoke with CS on a telephone while in the store. The store employees had already checked the phone for damage and found none.

I've never been asked to agree to the replacement price of a new item before they even looked at the inoperable one. A reasonable bench charge, sure, but that they will just charge me for a new one if they so decide with no further notice. I don't think so. And I was returning the phone first, there was to be no cross shipment. Those terms are why I turned to Samsung as the manufacturer and based on their warranty which you can find here: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/s...d_mdl_cd=SGH-I897ZKAATT&prd_mdl_name=SGH-I897
a golden rule to buying from ATT just so you will know. Always buy the 4.50 a month insurance they add it to your bill and you hardley even notice the difference...that way if there is an updat to the phone and you try it and it bricks you phone you can get it replaced for about 50.00 through there insurance dept.
stewart2568, Thanks for the suggestion. I don't think I'll be buying any more phones from AT&T, though.

Actually the replacement fee with AT&T insurance on the Captivate is $ 125.00.

It pains me to say it but AT&T warranty department is much better than Samsung warranty department. You're just simply mis-understood the terms. A lot of ppl here on the board get their replacement just I described above. There is no cross shipping. They ship to you first, then you mail your back. Of course you have to agree to certain payment in case you never mailed yours back. And they always insist on inspect the phone for water damage before finally grant you warranty. That's just normal practice of buziness. You certainly have the option to ask the phone back instead of pay the $500 charge if they deny your warranty.
So far I didn't see any evidence that AT&T denied your warranty. You're just in a panic mode. Dealing with inpetent Samsung support doesn't help much. FYI, the phone you bought is AT&T branded which means AT&T take care of all the support and services. You can talk to Samsung all you want, you will just get run around like already have.
This is like how Samsung wanted to charge me for their product failure. It was just a month after I got my Captivate and one of the volume rocker buttons got stuck. I called Samsung to have it fixed, and they said it was "physical" damage. The guy said he could transfer me so I could find out how much it would cost, but that he needed to take my credit card first... WHY would customer service take your credit card number BEFORE they told you the cost??
Anyways, it caused me to open the phone up myself just to fix the button, instead of Samsung having my credit card number before I knew what I'd be paying them.

I asked for clarification on the terms, explained them back as I understood them, and the phone representative confirmed that I had to agree to the charge if they determined it was not a warranty issue. I specifically asked about the option of them just returning the phone instead of charging me for a new one and two different individuals, one on the phone and one in the service center, told me that they could not modify the terms in that way. Interestingly, I asked the phone rep for a copy of the terms in writing, as I was dumbfounded by her reading of them, and she refused to provide me a copy saying she did not have the capability to do so. (huh?!)
I have to disagree about panic mode. I am irritated, but have basically written off my loss at this point. You are right that AT&T did not deny the warranty, as I wouldn't agree to the terms up front to even get to that point. The phone is clearly branded by both AT&T and Samsung. Samsung didn't give me much run around, just went through their process and gave me the response "The factory warranty has been voided." Nice. Once I get the phone back, I will be doing a tear down to see if I can find any evidence of water damage or corrosion. I know that the indicators showed none before the phone was shipped to Samsung and from my discussion with them apparently still didn't when they had it.
I really only posted here so that others could be made aware. If these sorts of problems are common, perhaps something can be done. I've asked both AT&T and Samsung reps for further recourse and have been offered none. So in my case, I'm at a dead end. I'm moving on, checking on my ETF and considering my options regarding a new phone or a new carrier.
Im really sorry to hear you were treated so unfairly. Im an AT&T rep for Radioshack, and I know a few tricks for anyone who has this problem or any other unjust hardware exchange problems.
First, like that other guy posted, shop at Sams Wal Mart or Radioshack for cheaper prices, no mail ins and painless exchange policies.
Second, if you still can't get an exchange, call customer service and chose option 4. (Cancel service) This ofcourse is a bluff. Tell them that they can help you or your family is going yo Verizon. This is how I got them to exchange my Tilt I bricked for 80$ instead of 450$.
Third, If you go to the right Radioshack, they will ship it, straight to Samsung free of charge. Most stores don't know how but all have the ability. Just tell them to ship under NARDA.

Assuming that the phones hardware is is working condition you should first try to put the phone in download mode. To do this first hold down BOTH volume keys simtulaniously and plug in the usb coard to the charging jack on the phone while it is attached to a computer. If you see a yellow man holding a shovel with yellow writing saying download you can recover this device. If you get this far post here and we can show you how to reinstall the ROM.
Best of luck
Samsung was right... AT&T warranty terms still ridiculous
Samsung was right and has my sincere apology. I got the phone back from Samsung service and disassembled it. It looks like liquid got into the USB port. It appears to have been a very small amount, perhaps a single drop. There is some corrosion internally on the connector between the back of the port and the PCB. That is the only damage I see, but it would have been enough to short the connection. There was no indication of water elsewhere in the phone.
I am still dumbfounded by AT&T's warranty policy. I have spoken with two more individuals at AT&T about the policy and they stand firm. You must agree to a full charge replacement of the device before they will even determine if it is under warranty or not. If they determine it's under warranty, all is well. If not, you pay for a new device, whether you want one or not. :-(
Anyway, sorry Samsung. A few more details about what you found would have been nice, but you're still OK with me. I have nothing nice to say to you, AT&T.
Oh, and keep that little door over the port closed when you can... it could save your phone.
Still sounds fishy to me. You had a working phone before the update, so why is the cause of the failure water damage. Was your daughter doing the update outside in the rain?
I deal with AT&T all day, on a day to day basis. They are pain as many of you already know. You might want to try this, if you have a Facebook account, become a fan of their page and then post up your experience/situation for everyone to see. It might just put some heat on them. Hopefully, a competent Rep could help with a resolution. Just a suggestion.
I actually prefer AT&Ts warranty as opposed to using a manufacturer. At least they send you the replacement phone first so you are not out a phone for at least a week.
I remember sending my Xperia X1 into SE, it took 3 weeks and when I finally heard back from them they they informed me my phone had liquid damage. Similar story: they sent pictures of the corrosion back with my old phone and there was a tiny spec of rust.

As odd as it sounds the voltage level could of fluctuated up high enough to cause the short and fry the port among other things.

I had the same problem as another poster, with the toilet incident.. except the water wasn't so clean *cough*
Anyway, I have the same recommendation.
KEEP YOUR CHARGING PORT SHUT WHEN NOT IN USE!
I'm positive it would have saved my phone from water damage for the tenth of a second it took me to ninja snatch it from submersion. Same situation; none of the litmus papers (water damage indicators) were red.
The only additional advise i can give is to buy the third-party insurance that AT&T offers at some locations at the time of purchase (or know someone that will sign you up for it afterwards). It covers water damage it's $5.99/month and the deductible is $75 for smartphones.
Oh and don't bother with the Mobile Locate service AT&T offers..Theft Aware does that and way more, AND it's like $6 ONCE!
EDIT: yea i thought about that too. It seems kinda strange that it only went berserk during the update. Maybe a wire in the phone only gets used when doing something like an update and when it had voltage applied to it..it fried

[Q] Replacement Dock and Tablet Despite Unlock?

Will Best Buy give me a replacement dock and tablet if I cite the dock malfunction despite my having unlocked the tablet?
I have a similar question here;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646723
I think we should be OK to unroot & wipe... **waits for confirmation!**
You unlocked the boatloader?
You've officially lost warranty.
Though, you can allways hope they wont notice..
but thats losing warranty with asus. not best buy, i doubt anyone at bestbuy is smart enough to know anything about it and best buys warranty doesnt say anything about stuff like that. simply, its broke, we replace..
Best Buy Warranty
This depends... if you didn't purchase an extended warranty through them they honor the terms of the manufacturer's warranty. How this is carried out varies from product to product and vendor to vendor. In some cases, the vendor agreement essentially replaces the item out right. In the worst form, the product gets sent back to a manufacturer's authorized service center. Sometimes this is the manufacturer and other times is a third party. I do agree that it is unlikely that anyone at the store level would notice the unlocked bootloader however it may get noticed at the service center.
If you purchased the extended warranty, then most likely the product will not be serviced and it will be replaced.
I will admit that it has been 2 years since I worked in the warranty fulfillment capacity with that company so things may have changed some. Either way I'm glad to have a real job. Hope this helps.
Meh. If they're anything like Walmart, they probably won't even turn it on. I returned 2 tablets to Walmart, and the only hassle I got was from taking the S/N sticker off the second one, and they still took it back.
Does the device say "unlocked" at boot? I just swapped my 16gb for a 32gb and they definitely turned it on to confirm it works.
If it doesn't say unlocked anywhere than I doubt they'd notice.
Sent from my MB855 using Tapatalk 2
The device does indeed say that it's unlocked at boot... Will Best Buy actually notice and know what to make of it?

Whats the warranty like from Asus?

So I just discovered a side on my bezel that "clicks" in a little. I didnt notice this before and ive had the tablet for about a week and a half. It doesn't bother me that much but I wonder if it didn't exist or got worse since I've gotten it. I can still exchange it with best buy but I dont really want to seeing as it doesn't bother me and I think I got pretty lucky cause I don't have any other problems with the tablet. So I want to keep it, but the only thing thats worrying me is the possibility of it getting worse.
Say it does get worse. If in 3 months the bezel starts to come off or something, what's Asus's included warranty. Is it a year? And how good is the coverage, will they replace it if I didn't do anything to damage it? Anyone have some experience?

I actually think that their warranty and RMA system is pretty good. The length of the warranty is written on the sticker with the serial number on it. It is the 2 small numbers at the end and should say "12" (meaning 12 months). I RMA'd my TF201 for a broken HDMI port a couple of months ago. I was a little anxious doing this as there were some horror stories on the Prime forum. However, it went really smoothly for me. It took about 10 days door-to-door. The only thing I had to pay for was shipping it to them. My Prime came back repaired and looking just as it did when I first sent it to them. Unfortunately it came back with the bootloader relocked and I was unable to unlock it again ('unknown error' problem) so I sold it on CL and now have a shiny new TF700!

Unfortunately my RMA experience was polar opposite to yours. 2 months without a tablet and NOTHING was fixed, it was returned with broken components exactly as i sent it. Very little communication, horrible customer support, we even got hung up on when we called about it. Overall -1 / 10 for customer service.
I havne't used the Asus RMA service yet (and probably never will), but I *have* read *alot* of horror stories about people getting the device back in worse shape than it was in when they sent it to them.
Plus, Asus makes you pay the shipping, which really blows - if there is a defect that I didn't cause, I should not have to pay to ship it to them to get it fixed.
I love the idea behind the Asus Transformer line of devices, but to be honest, Asus really kinda sucks overall (software QA, hardware QA, tech support and hardware support).
Their QA is simply un-acceptable - folks should *not* have to worry about exchanging a $500 device 5 or 6 times in order to find one that is just "acceptable".
I really can't wait until other vendors start making nice keyboard docks - when that happens, I think I will be saying goodbye to Asus for good. Unfortunately, right now there just isn't much real competition with a good keyboard dock, but they are slowly starting to crop up.

Which repair facility did you send it to and when did you RMA? Reading that thread on the Prime forum it seemed that the facility in Texas that I sent mine to was absolutely clueless to start with. They did seem to improve after a few months after the release of the Prime lol. I think yours might have been one of the horror stories that made me not want to RMA!

I believe happily there is no shipping fee when you RMA in Europe.
Hopefully Lenovo will start with a kick with their tablet+dock bundles, but so far they have worse times between announcing and actually selling than ASUS.

Sent a PC motherboard back to them a few months ago.
I got the same board back repaired after a month (they covered shipping.)
Sent a soundcard back to them last year and got a brand new card back after one week.
12 month limited warranty is not too bad on this tablet.
The registration process on the Asus member site kind of scared me.
Said my S\N was invalid...retyped it 10 or 11 times and it finally flew.

So for all my no tax high dollar purchases I will usually run to them (that's if I am able to wait a day or two.)
The other 2 things came from Fry's (carry out) and after 14.999 days your a bit out of luck with them as a retailer.
Don't forget that depending on your credit card you have some protection.

All I can say is that thier RMA experience sucks. I had to send mine in after I bricked it and they not only waited 4 weeks to finally contact me but I contacted them 6 times and finally got to talk to a supervisor and ripped his @$$ for the piss poor customer service. The day after my final call they finally contacted me with the repair cost of $279 to replace the motherboard and labor. We'll have to see how long it takes them to repair it and send it back. Needless to say I'm not buying ASUS products anymore.
I cannot vouch for Asus TF700 warranty, however I did purchase a UL30A from them a couple of year ago. During a flight the corner (hinge) cracked and I sent it in (I paid for outbound shipping). They replaced the plastic casing, but didn't actually replace the hinge and over the next 6 mos the piece came loose and disjointed. Now I have to be very careful when I open or close the lid and I usually keep it open just so I don't stress the joint. I wasn't thrilled with their job.
My TF700 (just started yesterday) has a weird screen click (very faint) when I tab sometimes depending on how hard I tap and where I hold it. If this problem worsens I will probably return it through my credit card (many credit cards extend the return period) and get a new one.

ASUS customer service/warranty repair sucks

In case anyone is considering buying a new ASUS tablet in the future, I would like to relay my own experience with my Infinity. I got it when it first came out last year and was immediately disappointed with the I/O issues and constant app hangs/crashes, but I forged on and learned to accept the tablet for what it was. After a few ASUS software updates, I began having a lot of issues. First came the random black lines that wold flash on the screen and instantly disappear. Then, I started getting random reboots/shutdowns. Once again, I had to learn to live with these annoyances while my brother's iPad, which is a year older than my Infinity, chugs along perfectly with nary a hiccup. Finally, after one of their latest updates, my bluetooth died and nothing would get it to come back up. Not reboots, terminal commands, factory resets, or cold boots. So, I chatted with ASUS tech support and they eventually gave me an RMA. I spent $20 and half an hour to send the tablet to their repair center and got the tablet back a week later. The bluetooth was fixed (probably by just downgrading the FW as it came back with 4.1.1), but they somehow managed to dislodge the vibration motor so that it now buzzes against the back casing instead of vibrating the tablet. They also didn't fix the black line problem or the random reboot problem. I also swear that the WiFi is worse than when I sent it in. So, after all this, I am left with an even more inferior tablet than before I sent it in which was already pretty inferior to begin with. Given this experience, I will not be buying ASUS products in the near future until I can be thoroughly convinced that their quality issues have been resolved and that they have better CS/warranty practices.
Sorry for ranting.
There is nothing wrong with the hardware of your tf700 (excpt vibrator offcourse!) it's just software if you still have it try installing a custom ROM!

I actually had a really good experience with ASUS warranty repair. My screen went bad after about 3 months and I called CS, who after a few diagnostic steps told me to send it in for repair - it went to their Texas center. I got it back in about 2 weeks and haven't had any problems since.

I hope that holds true for me - I have to send mine to Texas to get a bad digitizer repaired.
As a recent (first and last time) Asus buyer, I just wanted to share my concerns re their standard terms and conditions.
I purchased an Asus Google Nexus 7 tablet from a well known online catalogue shop in April as a birthday present for my 13 year old son. Within the first 3 months of ownership, the tablet has developed a minor fault whereby the headphone socket is now just playing back one channel only.
If you Google headphone issues for that device, you will get plenty of hits!
The online catalogue retailer referred me to Asus direct. I started the online RMA process via the Asus website. I was forced to accept two sets of T&Cs that threaten me with hefty charges for courier charges plus labour if they decide it was not a manufacturing defect.
I wrote to Asus Uk and complained their T&Cs undermined my statutory consumer rights. Under law, within the first 6 months, the onus is on them to PROVE that it is not a manufacturing defect. Their 2 sets of T&Cs that they ram down your throat do not acknowledge this. Asus UK also refused to acknowledge this when I wrote to them and cancelled my ongoing RMA, without my prior consent, as I was not accepting their T&Cs.
Whilst I am confident we have done nothing wrong (the device is in otherwise immaculate condition as it has been kept in a heavy duty double-layer shock protection case with integrated clear hard plastic screen cover from day one), there is nonetheless an element of risk in this process.
What if their technician "decides" it is not a warranty repair? I will then have a choice of challenging them whilst they still hold on to my device or paying 3 figures upfront to get my device back and then challenging them afterwards. As a consumer I think it is grossly unfair I should be forced to accept such a position with a gun to my head.
It is completely different from Apple where I took an iPad with a charging issue to their shop and they replaced it with a brand new one on the spot and helpfully transferred all my apps over. No questions asked.
I guess it is true...you do get what you pay for
My advice is buyer beware and avoid Asus like the plague!
I heard the service is different in Europe that they can't replace your motherboard when it is unlocked and you have a manufacturer fault is this true?

[Consumer Alert!] ASUS Service Center tries to not honor warrenty - defective screen

Hello all,
There are multiple reports of the screen on this phone failing. When customers file an RMA and send their phone to customer service to get it fixed under warranty, ASUS attempts to blame the customers even when their phones are in pristine condition.
________________
Update 5/22/2019
After weeks of emails and forum posts with ASUS, 3 out of 5 customers have been able to get ASUS to repair the screen at no cost. So if you're dealing with this issue, don't give up!
Proof ASUS used fake photos to avoid honoring their warranty:

If your phone's screen fails:
If you're able to return to the seller that would be your best option. 30 days with Amazon.

Take many pictures of your phone and back up your data (if you can) before you send it in to get fixed.
If they don't honor their warranty leave a one-star review at Amazon and Newegg.
If they don't honor their warranty write to tech websites and forums about your experience.
If they don't honor their warranty take legal action.

What can be done about this? I went out and bought a cheap phone just to hold me over. But I spent a lot of money on my ROG phone and had it for only four months before the screen went bad. I am so angry about how I am being treated, I am loosing sleep.
Before this happened I had a positive impression of ASUS. I have purchased ASUS computer equipment. I was a loyal customer. And this is what ASUS has done with my loyalty . . .

I posted links to this thread on ASUS's support forum. It makes me mad that they are treating their customers this way. It is obvious that there is an issue with their screen and unfair that they are blaming the customers for it. I'm hoping that this thread helps; if it doesn't we'll look at what legal action can be taken.
I have a new idea. If ASUS doesn't honor their warranty then we could write to CNET, Engadget, and even XDA editors about this issue. Sometimes bad press is an incentive for them to do what is right.
Edit: If you haven't already, If you have an option to leave a review from where it was purchased, I would write a negative review. Also report to BBB.
If these don't work then we take legal action.
I'm a philosopher, and thus well-schooled in logic. I can say this: It's absolutely amazing that ASUS can use identical photographs as evidence to claim both that my phone has severe damage, and that it has only cosmetic damage--whichever argument it needs to try and get me to pay them more money. It has severe damage for the purpose of denying warranty coverage; it has only cosmetic damage for the purpose of denying a damage in transit claim. The gall of these people . . .
Please see the reviews on Amazon. Several customers report being victimized by the same tactic discussed here: ASUS claiming a screen defect is "CID" and holding the phone hostage for $400+.
This has to stop. Consumers are supposed to be protected from this kind of abusive and illegal practice.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/review..._1?ie=UTF8&filterByStar=one_star&pageNumber=1
One of the one-star reviewers states that ASUS informed him, EVEN BEFORE HE SENT HIS PHONE IN, that the screen was not covered under warranty. This is additional evidence that it is ASUS policy to prejudge ALL screen failures as CID.
This company is despicable and deserves to go out of business.

This scheme by ASUS to blame a ROG Phone screen defect on customers is rampant. Do we have a lawyer who is willing to take on a class action lawsuit?

My invoices are coming from Fremont, CA, so it looks like I'll also be filing a complaint with the California Attorney General.

There are also consumer advocate shows on radio and television. Those could be quite embarrassing to ASUS.

Asus Inner display broken without physical damage
Hi have brought the Asus ROG Phone on 14 Jan 2019. while i was playing PUBG , Suddenly my phone was blackout and i have checked that inner display cracked without physical damage. I couldn't see single scractch on the outer glass.
But when I was check with service centre and they are saying this will not be comes under warranty and they were also saying silly answer like inner display might be get damaged because of finger impression and placing the phone inside pant pocket.
RMA NUMBER: INUIK40199
I was shocked about the answers from technician. so ASUS company has manufacturing cheap, weak display for the permium phone.
my friend has advised me that don't go for ASUS ROG phone , it has cheap and week LED display but i didn't listen that.
Can you please help to escalate team.
Please see the below link as many of the buyers has been facing the inner display broken issues, now tell me that is ur Asus ROG PHONE has weak and poor quality display
samshak01:
As you have noted this is a common problem with ROG phone. So far ASUS has not acknowledged this problem and it is attempting to collect fees of approximately half the cost of the phone for repairs. Until such time as ASUS decides to fix this defect under warranty, each user is on his or her own to argue for warranty service.

If you haven't already, I highly recommend posting on the ASUS support forum. Reference this thread. If you do send your phone in, take a lot of pictures of it first and back up your data.
Please post your ASUS support forum thread here and I'll add it to the OP. The more we document that this is a problem the better it is for us.
ASUS will be releasing ROG Phone 2 soon.

I've updated the OP with more information. :good:
They got me, too
I'll just post what I posted on Zentalk. But here is the link to my Zentalk post that has the ridiculous pictures added to it:
https://www.asus.com/zentalk/ww/thread-272455-1-1.html
What follows is what I posted in the thread minus photos:
This is happening to me right now. This is the second time my screen has done this. This first time ASUS fixed it no problem. This time ASUS sent two pictures back from their service department stating the screen was cracked from 'impact damage'. Note that the screen is not cracked, the glass is fine. The LCD UNDER the glass is somehow cracked.
When I sent the phone in the screen was completely dead with a very short crack on the right side of the LCD under the glass. I'm talking maybe a quarter inch. They sent a picture back with TWO cracks going all the way across the screen! That was not how I sent the phone in to them! Further, I babied that phone. I NEVER dropped it and never abused it. I was watching TV, looked at my phone, then put it in my pocket. About a half hour later I looked again and there was a spot the size of the pad of my pinky finger that had gone dark and rainbow colored around the edges of the dark spot. As the hour progressed the screen progressively died as I just sat and helplessly watched, not even touching it. It's the EXACT way it died the first time.
The picture of the 'impact damage' is a joke. I had to look extremely hard to see any irregularity in the picture, and I don't see how that would have caused the crack, or how it would have even happened IN MY POCKET. Further, I had the case on it from day one THAT I BOUGHT FROM ASUS. I have never taken it off. I followed all their directions for shipping, bought their shipping label, I did everything I was supposed to do and now somehow my phone is MORE damaged than last time I saw it, and they are trying to say I somehow damaged it via 'impact'?? No! I had my wife look at the picture and she seriously doubts that's even my phone! She doesn't think the crack is even in the same place! I never even thought about taking pictures of my own phone, who thinks about doing that? But my 'dispute' just ended in an e-mail stating physical damage isn't covered by warranty. The guy on the phone asked if I had any pictures of my phone from BEFORE it was damaged. My phone is my camera, how am I supposed to take a photo of my camera with my camera, and why would I do that to begin with?
There is no way this was done by physical damage!! And now they want me to dish out 400 dollars? I can't afford that! Anybody have any ideas? If I can't get it fixed under the warranty like it should be, especially since it would be IT'S THIRD SCREEN, then I'll just have to dish out the extra cash and buy a new Razer Phone 2. I don't see another option here. If I pay the 400, this will more than likely happen again and then I'll have to go through this whole mess all over again. And to think this whole time I was braggin up ASUS to everyone, showing off the phone. All my PC parts are ASUS. I guess if this doesn't get fixed, I'll have learned my lesson there, too.
I've yet to hear anything from ASUS and they still have my phone. Just to update you all. I'll update the other sites I've posted on as well.
Just heard back from Customer Loyalty and they won't fix it without the 400 dollars. This, they said, was after they lowered the cost of fixing it. So i told them if they are refusing to fix their faulty product to just send it back to me so I can use it as a paperweight, and I'll notify all the appropriate forums, websites, and reviews on Amazon, Newegg, XDA, Zentalk, and warn family and my entire department about using ASUS for anything. I'll be looking elsewhere for all my PC hardware now, also. Apparently my favorite company is now being run by people that have no care for product quality and customer loyalty. Sorry, everyone. I was hoping ASUS would come clean and fix their problem. Clearly I was wrong. I'll be sending everyone over to Razer from now on for gaming phones.
