[Q} Soft Brick - looking for the correct RUU/ROM for HTC One s UK Vodafone - HTC One S

Hello
Sorry but I'm a beginner and I have tried fixing my phone for the past 5 hours after failing to install jelly bean
I'm stuck with the sd card mount error problem and the solution I found here doesnt seem to work for me
So it seems the best way would be to "reset" my phone or at least reinstall the existing ROM
Phone is a HTC One S - UK - Vodafone
Didn't manage to locate the correct RUU/ROM
Any help most welcome
Thanks again!
Cedric

Hey, you should be able to manually mount the SD card using ADB/fastboot. Try that first. Do some google for the commands you need, but first try "adb shell" and "mount sdcard".
Cheers!

Thanks for that - I finally managed to install the rom
but now I have another problem: the phone doesnt connect to any network
it's like it doesnt recognise my sim card anymore
any idea?
Would you need more info?
Baseband version is 1.08es.50.02.21_10.09c.50.04L

Ok, make sure that you flash the correct boot.img after flashing the rom. What you experience could be a symptom of wrong boot.img flash or no boot.img flash at all. Try to do that, and also try and wipe cache and Dalvk cache after flashing the boot.img again. Use "fastboot erase cache" after "fastboot flash boot boot.img".
Cheers!

not mmanyQu
Thanks for suggestion
But tried and didnt work
Aslo reinstalled everyting:
Download the ROM
Download Gapps
Extract the boot.img from the ROM and flash it in fastboot
Boot into TWRP recovery and factory data reset
Install the ROM, then install Gapps
Reboot
But still the same pb, any idea?
Getting scared I "broke" my phone now
Spend 10h on it since yesterday....
so thanks again - I'm lost here

Relax, the phone ain't dead. If you can boot it to bootloader, it's fine.
Try and flash a stock RUU and then unlock and root the phone again. I have no other ideea so far...

Any idea how I can locate the correct stock RUU?
I wanted to do that (after reading suggestions in this forum) but didnt know how/where to find them
Thanks again!

Check this out, look at the two bottom links. Get the most up to date one, it should work: http://www.filefactory.com/f/cf061f69b5bf7878/
Hope it helped!

Tried with both links
None worked - same error message - unable to update while updating signature...
Any idea?
Thank you!!!!

Seriously, i have never seen this error message. This means you gotta focus on mounting the sdcard. You can do it step by step in adb shell:
# cd /dev/block/
# mknod mmcblk0 b 179 0
# mknod mmcblk0p1 b 179 1
This worked for me when i had the same problem on another phone. Try it in adb shell, then reboot to recovery. The sdcard should be mounted.

quick question (stupid I guess) but I tried so many things I getting confused now
when I tried to reinstall stock rom via RUU
the steps are:
flash original recovery via fastboot
relock bootloader
start RUU or OTA
Can you please clarifiy "original recovery"- not sure I did the correct thing at this stage??
Thanks again

Usually when you flash a recovery image it is best practice to pull the original one as backup. I assume you don't have it, so try and search the forum for an original recovery for your phone model. Once you have it, connect the phone via fastboot and do a "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img".
This original recovery will only let you return to factory settings, so no nand backup or zip flashing there. After you got your stock RUU installed, you're back to square 1, so you'll need to unlock the phone, root it, push a recovery (whatever you want) and proceed with flashing stuff.

thanks for your help
I'm going to take a break because nothing is working and will come back in a few days
RUU installation always comes back with an error message (same one)
Tried to change my CID but doesnt work - I cant manage to open a shell session (it doesnt locate my phone, even though USB debugging is selected and fastboot says fastboot usb)...
thanks again

urgent help needed~!!! Please Help HTC One X stuck with Fastboot with No OS installed

Something went wrong which I am not gonna explain too much.
Now My phone doesn't have an OS.
I have Unlocked Bootloader,
I have CWM installed. However, the USB storage Mount isn't working. "No UMS error"
I can still use CWM, but I don't have any rom in the SDCARD.
I can boot into boot loader, I can see fastboot USB.
I want to install a rom, any rom for now. but I don't have access to the SDcard. I couldn't mount it.
Is there a way to write a file or put a rom on the SDCard?
of course the SDCARD is build-in so yea....
Please help~!!!
i could be wrong, but if you can get to fastboot, cant you flash via RUU? i mean its obviously not a custom rom, but a hell of a lot better than a brick.
most RUU is exe file...
I can flash a stock rom. but I need a .zip rom.
I tried using the one of the custom rom. but it says something about a .txt file missing.
Right, RUUs are exe files intended to be flashed via windows. I thought that you could plug your phone in when in fastboot mode, or maybe its after you select bootloader, and then run the RUU and it would flash the phone. Is that not the case? Those are just my thoughts so i could be wrong. This is my first real HTC experience so i may be way off base.

A very similar problem
Hi all,
I've gotten myself into a very similar problem, but the solution posted here hasn't fixed my issue.
I have an HTC One X 2.20 on AT&T. I used the X-Factor exploit to root my phone successfully. I have TWRP 2.3.1 recovery. I have a Mac.
While in TWRP recovery, I pressed "Factory Reset", "Wiped System", and wiped "External Storage." My phone now doesn't have an OS.
I tried the listed solution "adb push rom.zip /sdcard/Download/rom.zip" and the newly flashed ROM would be on my SDcard, but as soon as I rebooted, it would disappear. ALSO, when I tried to "Install" the ROM before rebooting, I get "Failed- unable to mount /sdcard".
Any advice on how to proceed?
Thanks so much!

Well, wiping /system = wiping the OS, so that is logical.
Doing factory reset in recovery means you need to reformat your SD card before doing anything else.

Can you get into TWRP? If so, just mount the USB via TWRP and put the ROM on your SD card and install it.

I'm having the same problem with no OS being installed and I am unable to get to either the bootloader or recovery. When rebooting I can't get past the HTC quietly brilliant splash screen. Hi, Brand new Noob here, but hoping someone can help…I’ve had a good scour around and can’t find the answer. We have a Htc one x from orange uk (cid orang001) stuck at “quietly brilliant” screen following an attempt to load ViperX 2.6.0. After downloading, the MAC unzipped the ROM so this was just rezipped back up and transferred over to the SD card, without any special conditions. ( I’ve since read somewhere that this might cause issues)
USB debugger was enabled but its not possible to enable it now.
Fastboot works ok, and we’ve flashed the boot ok, but ADP isn’t working, so it isn’t possible to push the correct ROM.ZIP to the SDcard. CWM is installed.
We’ve seen the post for an updated CWM with ADP enabled on this here but that states its only for at&t models. If we could get ADP working we’d be able to push the correct ROM over, so this would seem the easiest way if possible.
I wanted to avoid doing a RUU in case the phone would end up bricked, but I can’t get the correct version anyway.
Command ./fastboot getvar version-main returns
version-main: 3.16.61.6 and the noob guide at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1859714 says we can’t use a lower version….the nearest RUU I can find is 1.29.061.11 (released on 31/01/2013).
Any ideas on how best to recover this phone? The issue might not be anything to do with the zipping of the ROM, but then I have no idea why its not working…I’m hoping it’s a simple procedure, but I fear it may not be! Please Help!

oops, sorry :/

What did I do to my phone? Please help.

On a mac here. I think I got a bit over my head here with the 2.20 root. I did all of the bootloader unlocking successfully, installed TWRP, and then downloaded CM10, and flashed the boot.img.
Now when trying to boot the phone I get stock on the screen with "This Build is for development only."
I can get into recovery, but don't really know what to do from there. I'm trying to mount, but can't get the computer to recognize the device. Tried a factory reset and it failed. I'm not quite bricked, but sort of stuck and don't know what to do. I'd love to get CM10 working, but at least I want to be able to use my phone.
I'm pretty new to Android so sorry for newbishness.
Thanks anyone for your help.
Just to add, I'm getting the message "no OS installed" when trying to reboot in recovery.

The boot.img has the kernel in it. If you didn't flash the CM10.zip you have no operating system.
Wipe System, and Factory Reset
Flash boot.img
Flash the CM10.zip, flash google apps, and you should be good after that
Now flash the rom zip from recovery (twrp)
Sent from a slithery smooth phone!
So to flash the zip file for the ROM and gapps, I just enter fastboot flash boot 'rom.zip' or 'gapps.zip'?
Also, what do I do after I've flashed them?
Thanks so much for your help

No, do a clean wipe.
boot your phone into fastboot
download the fastboot files http://www.mediafire.com/?4dx982z93w8z7wk and extract them to your desktop
on your computer, open up cmd and type
cd desktop
cd foldername (the folder that has fastboot.exe)
fastboot flash boot boot.img
reboot into recovery
flash CM10, flash gapps, reboot
I see. The problem is that I seem to be unable to mount my phone and sd card through recovery.
Trying to push the zips using adb using './adb push cm10.zip/sdcard' but when I enter this command in terminal it seems to just reload adb, and not push the file.

./adb push file /destination

I'm not familiar with OS X and android, are there any specific drivers you may need to install?
Are you in your bootloader or recovery?
All necessary drivers were installed. The device was being recognized before, but for some reason isn't now. I'm stuck on the "This build is for development purposes only" screen now since I can't get into recovery or bootloader using adb now since the device isn't recognized...

CWM cant mount SD you need TWRP for that and a RUU put you back to stock but the bootloader needs relocking. So did you even try booting the rom because the red writing is fine.
you didn't mention it, but you should wipe system and caches as well as data
Not hard brick. you can chose the correct Ruu file and flash it to your phone.... solved your case.

CWM can not mount our sdcard onto your computer over USB.
But it absolutely can mount the sdcard partition onto the root filesystem.
Unless you have the 'unmountable sdcard' problem, for which there is a sticky in Q&A.
My feeling is that the OP didnt mount the sdcard partition. In that case it is normal to see the mount point as an empty folder.
Once it's mounted, you can adb push rom zips to it.

Download the right RUU for your carrier and location by looking at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1543588 and you can get free download at http://www.4shared.com/folder/jKN2qjTl/HTC_Ville_RUU_Collection.html
Then plug in your phone and follow the instructions when you run the RUU .exe file.

did you ever try to boot into the rom after you flashed it and boot image as in just tapping on reboot system
can you plug phone into pc and get indicator at top of screen that says you are connected. then pull down notification bar and select to mount drive
if so, does it show you your sdcard in the windows screen
you do have an S4 device and assume you are hboot .13 or higher
if you can get into os and see sdcard, you can get twrp and flash image gui and flash rom and boot image with it
i am sure you tried these things, just hard to know when reading posts
also, i don't know if you are running your commands correctly based on how i undestand your posts. you can't run adb commands from fastboot, which is what you were in to fastboot boot image. you would want to type fastboot reboot-bootloader
if you are very familiar with adb/fastboot--sorry. if not need to get up to speed on them
if i misread or misunderstood any of this, sorry for butting in--

did you ever try to boot into the rom after you flashed it and boot image as in just tapping on reboot system
can you plug phone into pc and get indicator at top of screen that says you are connected. then pull down notification bar and select to mount drive

Ya he messed it up so needs RUU. He has PM me just waiting on a reply.

[Q] htc one sv soft bricked :/

Hi everybody !
I think i'm in the right section to expose you my problem, and no one on this forum had been confronted to such fails ! but i'm new in this forum to write threads (altough i already read many of them)
i'll try to be quick :
a year ago i bought a htc one sv , i unlocked the bootloader and then i stopped because i was with windows 8 and it was boring with usb 3.0 (i can use windows 7 right now..!). then i got some problems with "android.phone", or android.process.media" stopped et i believed my phone dead, but i learned things, installed the TWRP recovery 2.7.0.1 and flashed therom stock odexed jelly bean which allowed me to get back to stock my phone! (the twrp was with the root (or the rom odexed...) so i became rooted! but when i updates the superuser app few months ago, i got problems of binaries so i didn't install the last supersu app update (2/3 weeks ago). unfortunately,2 weeks ago, my phone did a reboot in the night (which awoke me) but in a bootloop...
First i tried factory reset then clean storage du bootloader, but it did nothing.
at the beginning i could not acceed to the recovery, but, lucky i am, a boot in fastboot usb and now from the phone, i can go to my recovery twrp 2.7.0.1 -or 2.8.4.0 by boot fastboot usb) however, TWRP shows "no os installed"it s been 2 weeks that i'm searching, but without results... that's why i'm asking here to the best in android world ^^
the things that i already tried without results:
flash the same zip odexed from recovery and from fastboot usb
flash hboot, but i'm s-on
update recovery ( i only can boot by fastboot usb)
flash rom custom venom with the installer in the rom
find files for sdcard "pl80diag.zip et nbh et pl80img.zip et nbh"
but i'm S-on and can't be S-off, the process with moonshine stopp when the devices has to boot...
i also tried adb sideload and simple adb with the phone in recovery recovery but:
recovery is unable to mount internal storage partitions (unable to mount int-sd, etc............)
my phone shows "tampered" "unlocked" and "s-on" hboot "2.00.000".. ask for more...
from now on, when i boot the phne i don't have any more bootloop, i'm directly in the hboot..!
i tried extract rom.zip from RUU.exe of ICS but i didn't used it...
so i'm wondering if there is a way to unbrick this soft bricked devices 'casue i already tried all of the unbrick things for soft brick but the partitions being unable to mount killed all my tries... i hope i gave you many informations ! all the suggestions and ideas are welcome!
(i can't find nbh files..)
thanks for reading this busy text, i'm a bit bored of using a very old phone in remplacement if i can repair my lover htc..!
i trust you people i'll check and answer suggestions asap!
Well, you are S-on, there is not much you can do.
Flash twrp recovery 2.7.x or 2.8.x and try to flash a rom for your device model.
Don't forget to do a full wipe in twrp and to flash the boot.img of the rom you are using with fastboot.

it that i was thinking... i already try this (i have already twrp without booting in fastboot or flashing) but the fact is : twrp cannot mount any partitions so the step "writing" is impossible.. even the wipe fails..
If i remember right, in TWRP 2.8, under Wipe - Advanced there must be a button "Repair broken filesystem".
Not sure if this is working on SV, but it is worth a try i think.
What version of this phone do you own?

hey guys, it's been a while but i was searching during all this time. I've experienced some things with adb shell and what i saw :
my partitions are messed up, not annihilated, but messed up. 2 reasons : partitions can't be mounted in the last recovery of TWRP, and when i use Fdisk -l /dev/block/mmcblk0 and the partition table of mmcblk0 and what I see is that my partitions table are not in disk order. My partitions are overlapping.. Perhaps it will help. I tried some ext2fd and mkfs.ext4 but it as not worked properly... maybe you have ideas... because it's been about months that my phone is useless and a paperweight.
by the way on my computer under windows 10, my phone used to be in qhsus_dload..! perhaps there are issues with that!
Thanks.

Well if you can extract the RUU from the .exe program then you can boot to your hboot then select fastboot from the screen. Plug device to your pc then enter:
Confirm pc reads phone and displays serial number before proceeding...
Code:
fastboot devices
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
Code:
fastboot flash zip RUU.zip
If terminal shows it has completed successfully then reboot:
Code:
fastboot reboot
If terminal shows it didn't complete successfully then do not reboot but try again:
Code:
fastboot flash zip RUU.zip
I went through this last weekend for my K2CL because I was converting my device to f2fs and messed up in the process.

OK well i'll use my computer under windows 7, but i know that when i extract the ruu from the .exe (using the folder temp, you know) the file can't be flash with recovery but i'll give a try with fastboot (fastboot devices always work) if this can work you'll be my heroe haha because i've tried so many things with the adb shell the recoveries, the flash with fastboot (which taught me some things about android) but nothing worked!

Yea, the RUU extracted is not made to be flashed in the custom recovery or any recovery for that matter. Must be flashed with the device in RUU mode as instructed in my last comment. If you are S-On then make sure you relock the bootloader first before doing it. If you are S-Off then it does not matter. It will fix your device. Like I said, I borked my partitions last weekend and the RUU fixed it right up for me with no problems. However, I used a decrypted RUU but the process is still the same.

On linux in general and decrypting the RUU is way more complicated and difficult than it sounds. An encrypted RUU will do you just fine.

What do you mean by putting the phone in "recovery"? You shouldn't be in your recovery when using fastboot. You should be in your bootloader. Power off device, then press and hold the volume down key and the power key. Release when you see your hboot appear. Using your volume keys to move up and down you want to highlight the option, fastboot. Hit the power button to select fastboot. You are now in fastboot mode. You will see fastboot in red text. Plug your device into your pc and you should now see, fastboot usb, in red text. Using the terminal on your pc proceed to lock your bootloader using fastboot. Then proceed with my instructions in the other post.

yeah of course i did it. Being in the recovery was just a try with a toolkit which is used to relock.
i know how fastboot works but i've got error messages with fastboot oem lock and by flashing the ruu the last thing after the signature checking fails because of my bootloader unlocked i guess.

Stuck at TWRP

Hi Guys
I installed TWRP on my Sensation XE. The bootloader is unlocked.
I tried to install different roms but it gets stuck on the ´Next´ button immediatly after loading the Rom in TWRP. Is that because of S-off? I didn't do that.
I cannot start my phone now.
PLease advice,
Kind Regards
Guido

change your recovery to 4ext
http://d-h.st/rG7
extract the recovery.img and flash it via fastboot command
the command is fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
then from 4ext format all partitions except sdcard
enable smartflash from 4ext(if you are on S-ON)
flash the rom
done
note: enable smartflash exactly before flashing the rom
i'll give it a try at home. Thank you!
I'll let you know.
Thank you so much! It worked really good
So happy

boot your device to the bootloader, select fastboot and connect it to the pc
extract the recovery.img from the link above and place it in the folder where you have adb/fastboot files in your pc
open a command window from that folder and type
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot bootloader
then you will have 4ext recovery installed

I've used OneX AIO tool to flash it, and now I have 4ext Recovery Touch and my Sensation is alive again! Thank you!
Hi guys I tried to flash ''cm-13.0-20151108-UNOFFICIAL-pyramid'' via ''TWRP-2.8.7.0-pyramid-r9-cm13'' but that failed, ever since I am stuck at the HTC logo, I tried to flash numerous older firmwares but try to factory reset/wipe I get an ''unable to format storage'' so any Rom I try fails. It was previously running older version of CM fully rooted which I have fully backed up via CWM but now cant restore is due to TWRP & CWM being incompatible.
I have tried so many ADB commands but ADB only responds when in TWRP any time else like in Fastboot I get absolutely no response at all, I have also tried to flash CWM back any way possible but have failed same with ''4EXT-Recovery-Touch-v1.0.0.5-RC5-PG58IMG''. Also tried RUU but kept on receiving 'Connection Error' even though the USB cable was connected & works fine, also tried using ''Sensation_All-In-One_Kit_v3.1'' no luck either with any of its commands.
I have attached the Bootloader screen if it can help with this boot loop.
I have never has such issues with Samsung Phones so I am a total noob with HTC phones so any help would be really great.
Any help would be really great from this amazing community!
TWRP has broken my partition table. I cannot format via parted due to the fact it now has 'overlapping partitions'. No recovery can fix this including 4ext. Completely stuck at the minute. I don't want to use a microsd card as storage when I have internal storage available. Is there anyone that can help or has had any success? I am S-OFF and bootloader UNLOCKED.
Tried stock RUU via P58..zip and get's stuck part way through (I think at system or SD)
Help! I'm sure there's someone that can fix the partition table. The format of the internal storage sd is fat32 - which I believe is where the problem started from. I don't want to let this problem defeat me although I have spent an age trying to sort it...too late to give up
Any help is highly appreciated.
Cheers

Yeah how did you do it? Too late for me now though as my device is S-OFF and I'm stuck in QHUSB_DLOAD bricked mode. I have tried unlimited.io's s-off etc no joy. Wonder if there is ever going to be anything that can take me out of this apart from jtag.

What I've done has been, through a PC with Windows Vista (I have been unable to get anything with Windows 8 onwards ), I installed the HTC One X All In One tool, and in the part where the recoverys are located, there are three (CWM, TWRP and other), I went to the Data / Recoveries folder and I deleted the TWRP, replacing this with an image of 4EXT Recovey Touch, and putting the same name that has the recovery erased. Then I went to the tool, I installed TWRP (which was 4EXT which replaced it) and my Sensation revived. Good luck!
For me it is not loading to 4ext, after flashing it..... stuck at htc logo. if i install twrp or cwm it boots to it... any idea how to fix it?
