In fact I saw this emulator in market and try to find an answer here.
Just wonder whether it allows me to install a program which runs on my old windows 95 or 98...
In other words, can I install .exe software on it?
Thanks!
Some?
I have seen some do it but not well.
I think you can start Ubuntu and Windows 95 or 98 google it I've seen some Nexuses One running Ubuntu, Debian etc.
Its easier to run ubuntu than windows

Ya it is much easier to run ubuntu or debian do to the fact that android is already a linux distribution, and ubuntu and debian both support arm processors standard which is what android phones use. Also in order to emulate windows you would have to emulate the intel cpu and that would make things unbairably slow, to the point of being almost unfunctionable.
Hope that helps

Hi, been looking for emulators to isntall som legacy games ( civ 2 etc) any suggestions?
Anyone got suggestions? been looking for ages but nothing yet. Haven't been able to find something userfriendly.
I'm new to androids but I think you could always try to install Ubuntu then Wine to run some windows app's.. but you'd need pretty powerfull machine and quite luck to achieve that.

Wine is not an emulator, it only translates some platform-dependent things so windows app can run on Linux. As a result wine can only run on x86 architecture. To run windows on ARM android there are many x86 emulator available but of course the performance is not very satisfying. Windows 98 or below can run although with a bit slow. windows XP and later is much heavier so you can't run it in an emulator with acceptable speed
Linux have distros for ARM so it's much easier to install
with devices like s4 and xz is it still too hard to run win 7 in an emulator? win 8 has arm support

OK now that I’ve got that over and done with, I have got the Android software to run on our DHD, It is actually runs on the same Android kernel as Android , which means you can run Ubuntu and switch to Android and back to Ubuntu.
This is a large image and with the problem with hosts I have decided to upgrade my dropbox account, so that the download will be simple and because of that I will not have a download count, so if you download please click thanks and this will give me an idea of how many downloads have been.
Requirements: Root access.
Installation:
You have to download Android VNC viewer free from the market also the terminal app, So first download https://rapidshare.com/files/1497399130/UBUNTU.rar
preferably on your computers and unzip it to a folder on your desktop called UBUNTU, then copy the folder onto the root of the root of your sdcard, that’s it
Now open your terminal and type (_=space)
$Su
#cd_/sdcard/ubuntu
#sh_ubuntu.sh
That’s it may take a while to complete, have a cup of coffee.
Now open vnc viwer
Nickname : ubuntu
Password :ubuntu
Address : localhost
Port :5900
Colour format :24-bit color
Just press connect and that’s you with Ubuntu, I use OTG cable for wireless keyboard and mouse dongle.
Remember if you download please tick thanks.
Or if you want to buy me a cold beer just klick the donate button.
Reserved for later.

A lot of work has been done to get a native Ubuntu and an USB Host kernel by a couple of members but we still don't have it :-(
The guy who ported Native Ubuntu from the HTC HD2 has stopped developing at Version 0.2 but version 0.3 is made for HD2 and has USB Host!
If anyone can work on that we are a bunch who would like it for sure.
Native ubuntu with usb host and/or usb host kernel for Android while we could load Ubuntu or Backtrack in chroot also would be interesting!

Yes will work on xoom
Yes on xoom it will. You also have a native ubuntu option that is faster if you need the GUI more than just the terminal! Check the xoom backtrack native it is a good choice too.
What I like about my A500 is the usb host, I'm using keyboard and mouse + hdmi so my tablet becomes a desktop!

Buy a Surface Pro?
I am the network administrator and we at work have not found a way. We will have to wait for Juniper to create a download for RT. I tried several ways to make it work no joy.

Many VPN clients require a third-party driver installation, so even the current jailbreak hack (which only allows untrusted user-mode software, not drivers) wouldn't allow porting the client even if it were open source. If it's closed source, there's nothing that can be done from this end without wayyyy more reverse engineering than anybody here is likely to bother with.
Juniper are currently developing a Windows Store app for Pulse. Microsoft were late in releasing the VPN APIs to developers, but we can expect to see things like Cisco and Checkpoint too.
Glad to hear it. I'm interested in these VPN APIs; one of the limitations of the current "jailbreak" hack for RT is that we still can't install drivers, which makes it impossible to install current VPNs (and many other pieces of software). If there's a way around that, it would be awesome.

AlanJC put forth new information. I'd like to know the source of his info...
It was quite simple really, if you're registered with their support forums, you can ask, and we did.
It's going to be a Windows Store app, and will work on Windows 8 and RT rather than just a downloadable exe to install under the desktop from what we can make out.

There isn't an alternative either.
As far as I'm aware, until there is a jailbreak for Windows RT 8.1, there is no way to install applications outside of those on the Windows Store.

Dave

Apart from those Windows apps that have been recompiled for ARM and run on a jailbroken Surface!
Granted there aren't very many, and they will almost all be open source desktop applications, but they do exist.
If MS opened up the Surface so that desktop apps could be installed, you would likely see many more. For example, Google would port Chrome to RT if they could.

Dave

There are dozens of ported applications (see the link in my signature) with more coming slowly but steadily. There are also lots of pure .NET applications, which work fine on RT once it has been jailbroken. In addition, there are a few custom-written applications for RT, the most important of which is probably @mamaich's x86 dynamic recompilation compatibility layer (sort of like Rosetta for old Macs) that allows running some (old and/or now-demand) x86 programs on RT without modification. Work on it appears to have largely stalled (although the current version is still available, and does work for some programs on RT 8.0) while the jailbreak for RT 8.1 is in development, but I'm confident it will pick up again.

ui choices compatible with windows rt (desktop)

recently i'm writing a win desktop app that requires a more modern ui (i.e. metro ui in a desktop app). my first thought is to go wpf, but that option died when it occurs that the app needs to run on surface rt tablets too (jailbroken). so a torturous route would be to write my own custom controls and put them on winform, but i suspect there can be a easier way out. would Qt be possible? any other wpf-like choices? tks!

For my RT Desktop Store, I have used the MetroFramework (link below), it's a WinForms implementation of the ModernUI for Desktop apps. Easy to use and may be just the thing you are looking for.

Winforms .net code -should- run verbatim on the RT, as long as it's targeting .net 4.5.
