With my old Thunderbolt I was required to charge it every night, if I wanted to use it the next day.
With the Maxx HD I do not have to charge as often.
So...before I should start doing something I may regret later, what are the do's and don'ts with this phone' battery? Should I wait to charge it? Is it ok to charge daily? Will charging daily affect battery life and longevity? These are the type of questions I'm hoping to find answers for.

Good question. I was told not wait to wait for a full discharge unless you think your phone is grossly misrepresenting your battery life percentage. Otherwise, you should charge it any time you want. Battery life depends on the age of the battery and the total number of charges you do.
From what I have heard, battery wears out due to the charge / discharge cycles as well as time. We can't do much about the charging cycles because we use our phones. We can do something about battery damage due to the passage of time.
The battery deteriorates the quickest when it is fully charged or fully discharged. Hence, if possible, you want to avoid these two extremes. So to minimize battery wear, you may want to keep it charged, say, between 80 and 30 percent. That is annoying, however.
I think a more practical suggestion is not too keep it always charged up near full capacity, while also charging it as quickly as possible when it drops below 15% or so. Basically don't let it sit at that discharged state for a long time if possible.

New polymer batteries don't like to be fully discharged. However the battery life expectancy shortens, each time you charge it. So imho, keep the balance and charge it once maybe max twice a day. Of course if it's needed you gotta do it more often. Just use common sense. Nothing lasts forever.

Twice a day? I had 65% left after 24hrs off the charger. Granted, that was some limited use on first day, but still. I'm wondering whether to charge it every night or every other night.
OK. Turn on skype. Have couple video calls, then watch some YouTubes, call somebody, use Google Maps and Navigation. You will not have much juice left, especially if you have only 1-2 signal bars.

For the longest time what I have done was charge until full and leave it on battery until it tells you to plug it in. No need to get all technical about it. The battery will last until ur next upgrade trust me. I have been doing it this way for years and not a single problem with my battery on any of my devices.

You obviously don't use your phone as much as some of us... I have Pandora running 10 hrs a day at work and in the car, then use it to make calls, texts, watch vids, and use FoxFi for internet at home to download programs, surf the 'net, etc on my home computer. I charge all day at work and overnight, pretty much every day.
How often one has to charge depends on how much use the phone gets. Sure, I could push a single charge to 2-3 days, but I'd rather USE the new toy I just bought

I've Been using my nexus and realized that the battery gets empty after 4 or 5 hours if i'm lucky.
I don't believe that i have a faulty one. The thing is that i do a intensive use of my N1 (even stop using my laptop for a wide range of tasks ). So i'm not surprised this is happening. So, I'm wondering if there's a more powerful one that gets me through the full day without messing with garanty or the phone.

i really don't want a more powerful battery (because it will be necessary also to change the back phone cover). Instead I'll be buying a spare battery (or 2). Sad is the fact that there aren't chargers to the spare... you'll have to put it inside the phone to actually charge it. This is true right?

Some phone docks do include a spare battery port for charging the spare. I don't believe that the official N1 desktop dock has this feature. Otherwise, yes, you'd have to charge it inside the phone itself.
Are you rooted? I swear, after 50/80 text messages a day, 2-3 hours of music, and 12/30 emails per day, I get home with about 40% battery. I do however use SetCpu profiles
yeah. I'm planning to buy a spare one and the car dock. and yes it only charges the phone it self. so i think is something Google and HTC should look into. but it's not a disaster. if you start the day with 2 fully charged batteries there's the possibility to get to the end of the day. then to charge those too batteries you will need about 4 or 5 hours i gess - a job to do during the night. It could be worse.

No, you can find chargers on eBay that will charge just the batteries. I've also seen an auction which has a battery charger and 2 batteries (might be the one in the thread U$20 *delivered*: "2x1400mah battery + charger for htc google nexus one")
i could. only wish. during Saturday, from 2pm (when i started using the phone) until 8 am on Sunday i charged twice my N1 (plus the full charge made during the Friday to saturday night). so in about 24 hours i've wasted almost 3 full charges... i see your point, but do you really surf the web or is just msg e mails you send. if i listen to 2 h of music, i bet the batery will get empty before that time. i also use the N1 to remotely access my home and work pc. my wireless card e working 24/7 and the gps no (only when needed ) So you guys tell me if i should worry about this, or not.

Perhaps you can check the inbuilt Battery Use section under About Phone and see what's using your battery so much. You could also install the application Spare Parts, which will allow you to see what's using the CPU while your phone is in standby.
Other than that you might want to use the auto for your backlighting if you don't already. And try to set any auto updates to an hour or so between updates? And disable auto login for Google Talk if you don't use it. If you're using a task manager, I find that constantly running task managers don't work well for my battery life, though your mileage may vary.

I find that using Advance Task Killer will help with the battery life. When I had the Motorola Cliq, it didn't last me very long (not sure why, I even fully charge it, go to sleep and wake up next morning with the battery drained at 1%). But ATK did help a lot even with the N1. That's one of the widgets I have up on my home screen

You should probably read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=649770 before you decide on buying any batteries though. But keep in mind these results only test around 1 battery from each brand.

after long research and testing tweeks and apps without real results i went another way and buyed a non-official house dock with possibility to charge also a spare battery; plus a official spare battery. made the buy at expansys webshop, and now I'm living a dream. with 2 batteries i no longer have to be restricted in using the N1. strange is the fact that the original battery i get worse times comparing with the one i buy after. it's a big difference. the first last usualy 6 to 8 h depending on use, and with the spare I'm making 10 to 14 h of use. the best is having allways another charged battery to put in the phone when the gets drained.

I've purchased a 1200 mAh battery which has name a brand of "Momax" (from eBay). It's price is about USD 10. And it's performance is equal to 60-65% of original nexus one battery. Not good but you know "if you pay peanuts you get monkeys"

if you don't bother to get a bigger phone than probably is a hood buy. but if worry the keep the phone looks as it is than i would advise you to go with the standard ones (official). More: are you going to charge the spare in the phone or are you going to have a charger for it? that's really important. .. if you also buy a way to charge it while you use the other battery than you have no reason to buy a extended life battery. that's only my opinion. hope it helps you
this is the "ora charger for the nexus one" i buoyed from expansys web site. my spare battery is in it already charged and ready for when the one i have in the phone gets drained. there's really no need to have a extended on in this conditions. but if you plan not to buy a charger than is quite different. for what i read about the extended ones, they don't give you twice the life. at most 30 to 40% more, and for me that's no enough.
What's up with this, i had my phone plug in now for two hours and is at 49% from 5% that it was when i plug it in. I am using the wall charger.

I would think the PC would take even longer since it puts out less power via USB. I'll give it a shot next time i drain the bat.
I wonder if we will see it speed up after the first few full drains. It just seems really weird might be a bug who knows.
My first charge was awfully slow, it's been charging much faster since the initial charge. I would say give it a few days before you go swapping the chargers out.
i believe my captivate was slow charging for the first week or so.
Same here. Charges about 15% an.hour. was on the charger at 21% for approximately 3hrs and 56 minutes last night... if I used it at all while it was charging its almost like it would pause.. the battery stat wouldn't go up at all!

So 4 hours later i am at 82% and charging.
I did have to unplug at around 55% for about 20 min while i went somewhere.
This is ridiculous.

Yea samsung is known for that on my captivate and epic which is why I need to make it through to the night so I can plug in and forget about it.
Taking my phone back to swap out. Is taking 5 to 6 hours to charge. I cannot have the phone plug in that long. While I can do I overnight I will loose charge in the day and will have to have it plug in the whole time to charge it up.
I called Samsung and they said 3 to 4 hours Max.

Yes charging is definitely slow, it took about 5 hrs to charge from 30 to 100%! This is my 2nd Infuse so swaping won't help.
I use Kindle's white charger (750ma i think), and it seems to charge relatively fast.
It is a 1750mah battery, so it will take longer.
Overall, u just need a more powerfull charger.

iPhone i think is 1400, i know Captivate is 1500...
1750 is a HUGE difference and will take longer to charge, but you should get almost 2 full days with it on good usage...

I've yet to see over 9hours with slightly heavy use. I would be glad to see 24hrs let alone 2days.
Yeah first several days are always sucky when it comes to battery life.
However, just look at official battery life specs - infuse is 8 hour vs captivate's 5.
Also standby is longer. I think it'll be fine when it's broken in and we don't play with the new toy as much.
I had to go through a few charging cycles with mine and now it's fast charging. Glad I got rid of the Atrix last Sunday.

I received the battery a little over a week ago. I immediately charged the battery overnight (at least 12 hour charge) and popped it in the morning. Throughout the day I normally; check my email, a few couple minute phone calls, some web browsing, updating apps through the market, maybe a few videos, and streaming music, and texting pretty much all day.
The battery seemed to be doing just as good as stock. Now after a few charge cycles I believe the battery is doing better.
I can easily get a day out of it on average.
Two days I was sick, so I just text a few times throughout the day and played a few games on the phone.. I got 48 hours out of the battery.
I tried killing the battery one day by watching videos, streaming music and playing games for maybe 6 hours and I still had about 25% left.
For only $6 shipped (it takes about 2 weeks to get from HK) I believe it is a good deal. I keep my stock battery charged as a backup, but so far haven't needed it. When I get home from work I normally still have 30 - 40% left and just throw it on the charger and take it off when I wake up.
It sure is nice not to have to worry about bringing a charger everywhere I go.
I am really surprised that the 450mAh increase made that much difference.
The battery also feels a little lighter.. I don't have a scale to weigh it on, but it does feel slightly lighter
Running R3velation ROM, Overclocked to 1.6GHZ - ondemand (voltage control), Undervolted -50v @ 100,200,400, sync is set at once a day I believe, automatic brightness, using WIFI only when needed, and GPS almost never
Overall... very satisfied.
PS.. my wife got her 3500mAh battery for her captivate. She is easily getting 2 days out of her battery.. I wish I could use it on my Infuse, but I use the Otterbox case... so it will not fit..
I got 2 of these for backup for my wifes and my phone. I use mine all the time. A bit better than the stock battery and for the price was very hard to beat.

I just popped it in my phone and charged it for 10 to 12 hours
I searched a little on google about batteries and didn't find anything like the Ebay seller said to do.
No problems so far. And still getting a day out of the battery.

Thanks for sharing. I had one of the double sized batteries with the extra back, but the battery wore out after only 6 months. I might just go for one of these.
I bought this battery after reading this thread. The battery is slightly more heavier. The battery life seems to last longer when the cell phone is in use but when the phone is on standby the battery dies quicker then the oem battery. Weird.

That is wierd, i have the same batteries....came as a two pack with charger...after a few cycle of charge...works great....i try to rotate the two batteries..

Those of you needing to know whats going on inside your battery, you need to find "Spare Parts" on the Market/Play Store.
There is a very in-depth app inside called simply "Battery Information"
There you will not only find your % of charge, but battery voltage and temperature, battery health and time since last boot.
Li-Ion batteries are tricky as they require no more than 4.2v, anything more can destroy the battery. Also, the cell is made to operate to no less than 3.0v, any less and the cell will "go to sleep", meaning it won't take a charge unless forced to do so.
Just some FYI, I did my homework on Li-Ion technology and figured I'd share a little...

Had my baby for a little over a year and a half, been nothing but a great phone in that time. This is where the problem starts... I'll be using it like normal, texting and surfing, and will have 98% battery, the phone will shut down, and when it decides to start back up, I will have 14% battery or less.... But it will go up if I leave it alone..... I've tried wiping the battery stats, even charging with the phone off, nothing is working. I will attach screenshots so you can see what's up.

Your battery is bad. Same thing happened to me, I recommend just buying a new OEM battery from a reputable dealer on Amazon, that's what I did. Try setting it down on a table and push on one side and if it rocks back and forth its bad. Or you can just look at it and see its swollen
Mine did that and it was just a bad battery. If you take the battery out and place it on a flat surface you may notice that it rocks left and right. If it rocks a lot or if you feel the middle and it feels swollen it may be symptoms of a bad battery.

It is dangerous because battery acid can get on you and cause sever skin irritation. You can continue like this for 1 to 2 days MAX until you get your new battery. Try not to use it because using it more will cause it to swell more, DUH try to only use it for emergencies and then once you get the new battery clean the terminals and you'll be good to go

I'm curious about charging habits of the people who have bad batteries. I have had my phone since the day it came out and my battery is still fine. I never let it get below 30% unless I'm testing a new ROM. Killing lithium ion batteries is really bad for them. So how many of you drain it all the way on a regular basis?
I'm still using my old vibrant battery (at times). I don't think that it's as strong as the spare that I purchased a few months ago, but, is on par with the 18 month old battery that came with the phone. I zap them all the way down a lot of the time (then swap to a fully charged one). I do(try) to recharge to full before use though.
Mine does it but only when I'm using wifi or data could that still be a bad battery

I run mine down to 1 percent on a daily basis. Never let it die though. I was under the impression that if you let it drain to zero you're asking for trouble. I could easily change my ways though.

Hechoen.......I use mine till under 10% or so and then full charge it. Been doing that over a year now. My wife however plugs hers in off and on throughout the day without letting it full charge all at once and she has a bad battery....

Shallow discharge cycles are generally accepted to be better for Li-ion batteries than deep ones.

That is probably a bad idea. I would try to plug it in around 15-20% with 20% being the best time. According to the batteryuniversity website 20-80% is ideal for li-ion batteries because it keeps the heat down. Charging from less than 15% creates heat because that is a low level and takes a bit longer to charge from therefore exposes the battery to more heat. A good charger and battery will shut off the charger once it hits 100% and only allow for a trickle charge if the battery drops below 100%. But I have seen my phone get hotter from about 85% to 100% if Im using it ie: plugged in and streaming music or using navigation.
The GN3 is an amazing phone - I love it, even with stock rom it easily lasts 2 days with about 3-5 hours screen time - which makes me ask, do/should you still charge every night?
For Note 1 and Note 2, going 2 days was pushing it, so I always charged nightly, but with Note 3, I'm wondering whether I shouldn't charge as much since it easily does 2 days?
the reason I ask is, the myths about charging too much, or leaving charged for too long, etc may ruin or reduce the life of your battery.

The number of recharges (the lifetime of the battery) is clearly limited so if possible I am charging in a very conservative way - once every 2 days if it works that way. But that is not always possible (and in some days I charge after a single day), plus as a backup I have a 2nd battery (fully-charged) in my backpack.
Well, I recharge it every night with no worries. If the battery loses its capacity to a point that it cannot handle a full day I'll just buy another one.

That's the beauty of having a removeable battery. You can charge everynight without worries of shortening the battery's lifespan.

Yeah, actually the worst you can do to an modern battery is to discharge it to deep...This will kill lifetime everytime you're doing this.

The GN3 is an amazing phone - I love it, even with stock rom it easily lasts 2 days with about 3-5 hours screen time - which makes me ask, do/should you still charge every night?
For Note 1 and Note 2, going 2 days was pushing it, so I always charged nightly, but with Note 3, I'm wondering whether I shouldn't charge as much since it easily does 2 days?
the reason I ask is, the myths about charging too much, or leaving charged for too long, etc may ruin or reduce the life of your battery.
I still charge every time I'm next to a charger (at the office) even though I know my phone will last me another day or so.... I just like to see the battery over 50% - but is this going to ruin my batter quicker? always charging? and unplug and replug many times a day....
what does everyone else do? to charge or not to charge?

If it turns on its not the time to charge ot yet... let it rest another couple of hours. That way you always have the full battery at your disposal, not only a part of it... thats my experience...

ps. This can be noticed when charging when dead it will be dead within a day after 2weeks of letting the batterie die everytime.
If you then charge every night again it will recover some and last longer after a while.
Let's bust a few myths here, first.
Drain cycle: Not needed. On the old batteries, you needed to do a full drain every month or some because it build up a memory. That's ancient history. It is infact very bad for your battery to do so on these new ones. Refrain from fully draining it unless you're having issues with the calibration. (Ex. if it shuts down at 20%.) Drain it once the very first time you get it. Not ever again after that without serious cause.
Best to keep at 100%: Hell no. Fully charged, particularly keeping it at fully charged, is actually quite bad for a Lithium-Ion battery.
Lithium-Ion batteries in consumer products last about 300-500 full charges before they start showing serious degradation in strength. The fuller you charge it and the longer you keep it on the charger, the lower that number becomes. Charging from 50% to 90% might make you 800 charges, where 10% to 100% will only last 300 charges.
It is best to keep the device between 30% and 90%. It is also better to charge small increments than long charges. So it's preferable to charge from 70 to 90% each time as opposed to waiting 3 days and charging from 5% to 100%.

I've a short time my note 3 but Im a little bit dissapointed because of battery life, I have note 3 for 3 days and battery life is terrible, I did factory reset and now it seems look good. Just tell me if this is normal that Android system drains battery almost like display. Is this stats good ?

Yes, that's normal. It's a KitKat thing. Most people have it sitting somewhere around 25%, so 15% is nice.
A highly inaccuate KitKat thing, at that. Yesterday I played Oh Edu! Towns (a town building game that's quite heavy) for 8 hours straight, and it(stock, BBS and GSAM) said the game used 2% and Android OS 22%. Somehow I doubt that.

Do u think that custom rom like Omega will solve problem with battery life? I've got root I will just flash rcovery and rom.
I'm charging whenever I have the chance, always need to be on a high-level charge, preferably 90% and more.
There are some myths regarding charging habits that might extend the life span of the battery, one of which is to unplug the phone when the charge level hits 100%.
That works for me so far, I have been charging this way since July 2013
I charge it several times a day after the KitKat update. My HTC one was great with the update, yet my Note 3 battery life took a dive. I used to get well over a day (24 hours and some minutes) with about 4-5 hours screen time with jelly bean. Now I get 14 or so with 3 hours screen time. I've factory reset, tried greenify (no root, sucks) disabled everything and still don't get much more.

Lets be honest, most of the people here tend to upgrade to the newer phone when it comes out, depending on how much better it is of course, so we tend to have a phone for 2 years or less...
Most batteries will live that long with no problem and by the time you're ready to offload you "old" phone for an upgrade, batteries cost a few $on ebay so even if it requires a new battery it isn't too expensive...
A battery should easily last you for the amount of time you're going to be using it barring of course power surges, misuse or just a faulty battery....
Charge away and be happy. If it dies it's replaceable...

Oh Man, sorry for that...
I own a Note 3 and a S4, and I just wanted to share my experience with the battery charging habits of the S4, since in this category I'm quite sure it applies to the Note 3 also.
BTW, I've been doing the same (Battery charging) for the Note 3 also.
I do but usually at 500mah when I sleep.
I've had a note 1 and currently use the note 3. I NEVER get more than 12 hours out of my phone. in fact, I carry 2 batteries with my note 3, the note 1 was even worse, I had to carry at least 3 batteries with me to keep me going for the day, and when I say the day, i mean like 18 hours. I'll freely admit that I use my phone more like a netbook than a telephone. I very rarely actually talk on the phone, instead using my phone mostly as a tablet for use with facebook, feedly, web browsing, a couple games, taking notes (evernote ftw), twitter, foursquare, pandora and maps, the occasional email, taking photos. with the battery drain level of the note 3, I'd really have liked to see a battery with roughly twice the capacity to keep me happy for a day, possibly a day and a half with slightly more casual use.
that having been said, yes, i charge every night, because one battery is dead and the other is at 5% or so when it's time for bed. - thankfully I invested in a charge dock which charges the battery in my phone while it charges a spare.
