I have tried 3 of the best launchers around: APEX, NOVA and the brand new version of ADW (could not try CHAMELEON as there is no free trial).
With all of them I have the same problem: when i choose the wallpaper, it is not set properly, only the center portion of it is diplayed.
This does not happen with Touch UI.
Any one knows why and if there's a solution?
Thanks
Yea. Same thing here. That's the case with all TouchWiz devices. Nova had some advanced option to center the wallpaper correctly but this is missing in the newer builds. So I sent a mail to the Nova developer... no reply. That was like more than a month ago.
It is correctly centered if you first launch TouchWiz and then Nova. So there must be a workaround.

what do you mean with your last sentence?
I was actually planning to freeze TW not to have it running in the backgroud...
And I guess I will have to root to be able to add widgets with drag and drop
By launching TouchWiz first and then Nova the wallpaper is set correctly. However, this is no real workaround since as you said, you want a replacement for TouchWiz and do not want to launch it.
What I wanted to say is that there seems to be a workaround possible that you would have to write into Nova... but since we are no developers we are stuck.

have tried go launcher hd for tablets and no wallpaper issue... pity it's a too basic launcher...
The wallpaper has to be 1280X800. if not, it wont center. that what happened to me and i figured it out. try it and you will see what i mean. or you can look at the pre installed wallpapers, all of them are 1280X800.

oh come on this is so old fashioned...
there's a resize feature in android when choosing a wallpaper to avoid the burden of resizing/cropping the picture myself: with some launcher it works (TW, stock and go launcher hd) with some it doesn't... so the problem is in the launcher
Sorry, i though you dont know it

Multi Picture Live Wallpaper is a great way to make sure your images fit the way you want them to on the screen, despite the resolution of the photo. Just set it to one picture, one screen, stretch to fit, and you will be a happy camper.
does anyone know what folder the stock wallpapers reside? I cannot find them using My Files or ES File Explorer.....
Thanks.
oh, and I wanted to use them with Simple Image Wallpaper Free (lets you use any wallpaper and not hve to worry about size)...
Sorry for my english first, but i find solution today. In play store, there is free app called "simple image wallpaper free" . It is "live wallpaper" app, where you can set static image from your gallery and it works pretty good.

Thank you for this suggestion. This trick fills in the whole screen any image you choose, no mater it's static or live. I've got Apex L installed on my GN10.1 and it works really fine.

Oh my god. Thank you so much. I've been trying to properly fit a wallpaper on my homescreen for AGES. you are the best.
Use "Photo Wall" live wallpaper
Maybe it was added with the JellyBean update because I don't remember seeing Photo Wall before. But you can just select one picture from the gallery and no more weird wallpaper problems.
I like Simple Image Wallpaper Pro because it has some really helpful features for me but it's good Samsung put a workaround right into the tablet without using a 3rd party solution.

Hi!
I've got a Motorola Xoom, and I'm trying to personalize it a bit, but when it comes to setting the wallpaper I want I'm stuck.
Apparently some design-genious at Google found out that you have to crop your wallpaper so it fits both in landscape- and portrait-view. Doesn't actually sound too bad, but when you realize what resolution the wallpapers need to be; it starts getting utterly stupid. In order to make the wallpaper fit perfectly into the crop-frame it has to be 1920 x 1408px. That means that i have to crop all my 16:10 wallpapers quite a bit in order to make them fit.
What I actually want is a fixed wallpaper. I want a wallpaper that fits in landscape-view (1280 x 800px) and doesn't move when scrolling through the home-screens.
Is this possible?
bZerk
Maybe I can give you some ideas. First a disclaimer: I'm running ICS and using Trebuchet launcher, and I add my custom wallpapers to the Trebuchet launcher before compiling it myself. I like to have the fancy wallpaper selection screen with my custom wallpapers, so I don't know how this would turn out if you just selected a wallpaper from the sd card and used that annoying crop screen to select a wallpaper. Anyhow, with that out of the way, this is how I do what you describe using a photo editor such as GIMP. Maybe you can adapt this to your situation:
1. Resize the original wallpaper to 1920x1408
2. Add solid black background layer of same size (1920x1408)
3. Resize the foreground picture layer to 1280x800 and save
4. Using Trebuchet launcher, disable wallpaper scrolling
That gives me the entire photo inside one screen without scrolling (landscape mode only). When in portait I have black bars on top and bottom. I'll attach an example. Maybe you can adapt this somehow because I'm not sure how it would work with the wallpaper picker that makes you crop the photo.
That is actually the best solution I've seen so far, but I still feel it is a little too much hassle for something that really should be easy to do.
Thanks for your help!
I think, unfortunately, the most common fix to this issue is to install Multi Picture Live Wallpaper (free in the market).
You can set the picture as the source image and you'll want to disable vertical sync I think it is..
Unfortunately the cropping issue blows and we have to go elsewhere to fix it.
Multi Picture Live Wallpaper is an okay solution, but it is kind of buggy. When changing to portrait-view and back to landscape-view the wallpaper gets zoomed.
After checking the Android bug-tracker I found that there were several people with the same problem, and I added a comment. I suggest that everyone else who is bothered by this, does the same.

Anybody else faced this problem? Please help. Its annoying that HTC is forcing crop to set image as wallpaper. I downloaded HD 480x800 resolution wallpapers to go with my screen resolution and it still doesn't work
What a great idea though....quick pic def crops but if you put an extension on the photo you could get the whole photo in the crop
How would one do that? Or if someone can make an app...

I've tried this on kindle fire and transformer prime and my wallpaper always resets back to default crop after I go from landscape to portrait, or when I reboot. Any fixes for that?

I'm not the creator of the app. I don't own a kindle fire to try it out so I'm not sure why that is happening or how to fix it.
As for the transformer... not sure either. I use that app on the tf01 transformer without any issues.
I have also used it on the xoom as well without a problem.
Both of those devices are running ICS ROMS with a custom kernel.
Maybe it's just my launcher then as I use nova prime on both devices

So in Jelly Bean, the option to crop when setting a wallpaper is becoming a breaking point for me. I can never get the entire parts of the wallpapers I want to use, as it will let me crop mostly only a third of the whole picture! Is there a way around the cropping process so that I can set the picture directly to my wallpaper? I will provide a screenshot of what I'm talking about to help. Currently running Slim Bean ROM v3.0.0

I noticed the same thing about my G3 and realized that its just ICE or even the Samsung firmware, of course you're obviously limited as to the size of image you can use but there is a way around this . I installed a new launcher( Next launcher) that gave me scrollable wallpapers but I still had the cropping issue. The next step was installing Quick Pic , it overrides the crop and you can scroll the image .
I hope that helps a little

I asked for answers, not petty remarks.
There are multiple apps in the play store that will not crop pics but if the pic has a small or a wide resolution obviously you wont fit it all on your screen. I use this app personally https://play.google.com/store/apps/...251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5qcGN4Yy53YWxscGFwZXIiXQ..
I have always used 'wallpaper wizardii' to set pics as exact and not cropped. I think all this stems from old phones that didn't have scrolling screens. We all(those of us old enough) got used to seeing the whole picture that we chose. With scrolling screens the software wants to expand the image.

I have a problem with the wallpaper picker after update to JB: If the image is portrait I cannot set the whole image as wallpaper. See the attach image of the problem.
Anyone has this issue? Is there any fix to this issue?
Thats because part of the width is used for the scrolling. If you disable scrolling wallpaper you can use the entire image.
I dont know how to disable it in the stock JB rom though.
Wallpaper scrolling is disable in JB with sense 4+ and as far as I know it cannot be enabled.
Ok, thats weird, you should be able to use the whole picture then.
Solution found. I installed GO Launcher and disable wallpaper scrolling from GO settings. Now the wallpaper cropping works OK. It seems that wallpaper scrolling was enabled after all, but the default sense launcher ignored this option.

Oh, look at that. Thats nice then, and shouldnt be hard to make an app that disables it without the need for a 2nd launcher.
Edit: I did a quick search on google, maybe this one can help? Not really scrolling WP enable/disable, but looks quite good anyway. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.shirobakama.wallpaper

I spoke with HTC support and their answer is that the wallpaper cropping is working as designed:
"kindly note that this is not an issue this is how Google (Owner of Android) decide to be used this option"
and after telling them that this isn't a Google related issue:
"The way how your phone is cropping the image is how our engineers decide to be."
So I think that this issue will not be fixed, at least the first app works OK and I don't need a second launcher.
Yeah, of course its google's fault.. Thats why the issue is present on AOSP roms and when using other launchers, as well as all other manufactures roms... oh wait... it isnt...
Why cant they just admit they (probably) forgot to set a flag that scrolling wallpaper = false in their launcher... Because thats quite obviously the case here.. The launcher(sense) does not support scrolling wallpapers, but android thinks it does..
I want to be able to stop the wallpaper from scrolling for my wifes N5, she's just moved on from a Galaxy S4 and doesn't like how the N5 scrolls her wallpaper picture.
Is there a way to stop the scrolling while still using the stock GEL launcher? I tried a few things people have suggested on forums but none work for the N5.
I don't want to use Nova or anything like that, I want to keep the GEL launcher as we both really like it.
If there isn't any way I'll just write a quick live wallpaper to show only one image and that will stop the scrolling, I'm just shocked someone else hasn't done anything yet if you can't change the stock launcher.

Top 2 are launchers (kitkat launcher is horrible compared to GEL, tried them last night).
wallpaperwizardrii doesn't work with the N5, exits the app every time I select "no scroll".
What I want is a way to do it without rooting or installing a custom launcher... e.g. keeping it 100% stock.
Looks like I'll need to write a "live" wallpaper that isn't live. Seems strange to me.
Thanks.
If you choose a wallpaper that is 1920x1080 resolution it should not scroll. There's a thread in themes and apps that had just those in portrait mode.

For whatever reason, scrolling wallpaper still works with some launchers. I have it working with ADW EX and I've heard at least Go Launcher described as still working. I just don't like the way ADW scrolls wallpaper.
Does anyone understand why we have an issue? Is there some way that AOSP Android allows for scrolling, and this is not working in KitKat or Sense has broken it? I've read Nova used to have a force scrolling option that was removed. Does anyone still have it working on that older version? Why was that option removed?
For me, with Solo launcher, wallpaper scrolling doesn't work. Themer, it doesn't work, Go Launcher scrolling works fine. I even like the transition, which makes sense, as opposed to the way ADW transitions. What a stupid way to choose which launcher I will use.
I guess I don't care about icons and traditional themes, though I'm definitely impressed with Themer's abilities, it's just not what I'm looking for... Just scrolling wallpaper, please.

Same feelings here for Nova. I love everything else about it. I continually try new CM nightlies but then miss the duo cam and IR features.
Edit: Oh and the main one, swipe to wake
I'm going to update this post later. There's several live wallpaper apps that restore wallpaper scrolling. I think the one in using now is landscape wallpaper. It works completely and invisibly, as if scrolling was miraculously restored. I even like being able to auto-switch walls on unlock.
EDIT:
Landscape Wallpaper - PROS: Better settings than WC, IMO; gives you lockscreen wall control, "scrolling direction," "scrolling source" of simulated or launcher (method), elastic effects, and image quality.; if choose simulated scrolling source, has further scrolling effects! (almost won me over with this... if could add "border mode" option to infinite scroll wallpaper (visible edge/seam, not jump/scroll back), I'd donate/buy this) CONS: Maybe a PRO, scrolls wall behind app drawer, but can't disable this. Can't create "albums" to choose from; only single image or folder
Wallpaper Changer - PROS: can create albums from single file, folder, or individually selected images from multiple locations and switch between them at will!; simple and works well. CONS: settings seemed glitchy or quirky for me; can add, but apparently not remove individual images from albums!?
Scrolling Live Wallpaper - Pretty simple, it adds wallpaper scrolling and worked for me. I don't remember it being bad, but I hated that when I took a screenshot, it became obvious it lowered the resolution/quality of the wallpaper dramatically, probably for performance. I don't think it had an option to disable this. It also scrolled unnaturally, imo. I think it simulated the scrolling effect, but poorly.
Wallpaper Wizardrii - I'm pretty sure I read this will enable scrolling for launchers that don't support it. I didn't try it. Looks popular, but has tons of wallpaper wizard effects that I don't need or want.
TIP: If using stock lockscreen, and maybe regardless, along with 3rd party default homescreen -- set same live wallpaper as wallpaper in Blinkfeed or stock launcher (settings same, regardless of launcher). Annoying when choosing single or small set of images; after a reboot, I always had a non-chosen wallpaper load, then refresh with expected live wallpaper after homescreen loads.
