[Q] Vibration Broken!! - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I have no idea what happened. I think its a problem with the kernel. I was able to sometimes get it to work but now its just gone completely dead. My phone wont even vibrate as it boots up. i tried doing a full wipe, dalvik, data, and cache and nothing it working. i even installed a new version of the kernel, 10/30's version of cm10, and nothing happens..
I have no idea what to do and i need help!

You need to Odin back to stock and start clean over.

My backup pro, titanium backup etc. And you can backup your apps and data and SMS etc.
Then with you computer copy your internal card to the computer and then Odin.
Once back on a ROM you like, copy your stuff back to the internal card, restore with chosen backup program.
Won't feel any different.

I'll do that tomorrow I guess. U know where I can find the files for going back to stock? Do I need to unroot? Relock boot loader? Or just instal stock and factory reset to get back vibration?

Not sure which rom you are on but some have a setting in settings >sound and then haptic feedback to where you can turn it high or low or off

I made it clear that I checked all settings. Haptic feedback is on and uninterrupted. And its any vibrations. Not just haptics.

Returning phone

So I'm having issues with data dropping on my phone. I've decided its time to take it to the store. I'm rooted with a Rom on here. What do I need to do to check the counter or whatever it is and restore to stock so they don't know I rooted. Thanks

Odin back to stock.. Search the forum
I still have no clue how to check the flash counter
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Unless you flashed custom software with ODIN your counter should be 0. However, search for triangle away.

I had the issue before I flashed this Rom. I was hoping the Rom would fix it lol.
And I first rooted with Odin not sure if that changes the counter or not besides that I've used recovery to flash

What rom are you running? I had really bad data drops on CM10. I'd try one of the touch wiz roms if you already haven't and possibly try a new modem. Modems are better for different people so there's not really one "best" modem for anyone.

Enter download mode. Power off hold vol down home and power, press vol up when its ask you to continue. Read the small text
Your rom may also have a reboot option to reboot into download mode

[Q] Can't change ringtone - S2 hd lte - bell

Hi, the problem I've been having is that I cannot change my ringtone at all; I've tried installing mp3 files into the ringtone folder, I've tried using apps to change the ringtone but it's been to no avail; for some strange reason it stays on 'Whistle' no matter how many times I change it... the phone has been rooted, and is running CM10 - and has been flashed through zip files on my sdcard. The problem didn't happen after I rooted, it's always been this way.
You try changing it within the messaging app/gmail/talk app, or just in the settings? What rom you on? Have you changed permissions on the ring tones you added?

I'm currently in the 'talk' app, which linked me to a webpage/help page... checking now; and though no change. Still uses the 'Whistle' notification.
Go into a root explorer app and see if your permissions look like this...

\my apologies, didn't answer the earlier questions fully. I'm using CM10 - I've tried changing it under settings/sound/default notification(phone ringtone). Not sure how to grant it permission...

Permissions look like that, yes.
Download ES file explorer from play store. Open it. Press soft menu button. Press settings. Scroll to root settings. Make sure all boxes are checked and allow super user rights. Back out to files. Press the button on the top row with an up arrow and a folder (or something like that). Scroll to system folder->media -> audio-> notifications->scroll to tone you want and long press it till a menu pops up->scroll to properties ->select permissions box. Should look like my screen shot.

Hmmm... I am stumped then man. Sorry, maybe a bad flash. You could try just wiping cache and dalvik and flashing rom over top of itself in case something went wrong in the first flash.

This has definitely spurred my curiosity. I've not seen anything like it before. You say in your 1st post that this was going on when you were on stock rom too? If so, it sounds like a buggy phone. Maybe try going back to stock, un root and try for a warranty replacement.

Your settings don't get saved.
Happens usually when you're restoring system stuff in Titanium Backup that you shouldn't be restoring.
Wipe data / factory reset.

Android is Upgrading

I was just watching a video on YouTube and then YouTube crashed. So it pulled me backbto the homescreen and when I pressed the app drawer the entire phone crashed! I l left it there for 2 minutes without touching it, it said android is upgrading. Any reason it did that?

Did you factory reset after reverting back to stock? I think there was some issues (gremlins) that were reported when reverting and factory resetting seemed to fix any issues. It's worth a shot if it happens again.

Do you have cwm? Wipe davlik if you do. If that doesn't work then try flashing a custom rom through cwm. If that doesn't fix it then send it in but make sure to reset the flash counter first.

CM 10.1 “0" folder issue Please Help!

So I just flashed CM 10.1 on my I535 to get a taste of 4.2. Nice ROM overall, however it did something strange to my SD card.
After flashing it, I booted into recovery to restore my daily driver CR5.5.1 and noticed this strange “0" folder on my SD Card in TWRP.
I initially was unable to locate my backups but then found them in a folder.
My backup was unable to flash because it was no longer a .zip file. All the files were .win.
Two questions, how do I fix this and flash my backup?
How do you check to make sure TWRP is up to date?
Thank you very much for the help !

Here you go: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/37316-protip-42-and-recoveries/
In case you don't read the thread, it's only four pages right now, this isn't a 100% fix so you may have to repeat these steps if/when it happens again. It looks easy enough although I'm not on AOSP to know.

Damn,
I just started a new thread about this topic because it is different but related to CM 10.1..
Just read that I need to Odin back to stock and unroot.. then *2767*3855#' then re root and unlock?
I flashed back to stock ICS last night and did the above mentioned keypad trick.
Then flashed back to JB and am still getting the global mode issue..

Hmm, well how about the third post here? Please disregard their "enthusiastic" tone of voice.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2054924
I've only seen two ideas as potential solutions, Odin/dialer code or flashing or maybe changing this obscure setting. Maybe I need to do more thorough reading on other methods.
Seeing all these issues with JB 4.2 is rather disconcerting.
