Did you flash the boot.img through fastboot? That seems to be the most common reason people get stuck at boot animation.

Now first off I'd like to start saying that I've seen a few threads from a search with this issue but none of them matched my case perfectly or solved the issue.
I have an AT&T HTC One X and was running CleanRom DE 1.0
I saw there was an upgrade out and tried installing the upgrade. I tried running the RUU but it gave me an error 155 (Unknown error). Thinking that it did not matter to much, I tried to install the new version anyway. This got me stuck in a boot loop of the boot animation for about 1 second, then rebooting. I have CWM recovery installed and can adb/fastboot but I cannot do much else. I pushed a 1.7 rom to my sdcard but CWM gives me the message, "Error: Cannot mount /sdcard/"
My phone is unlocked but locking it did not change anything, still could not load anything or use the RUU.
I've seen other threads saying to Lock the phone, then flash the ruu and I guess I'm a little confused on that. By saying "flash the ruu" do you mean just running the .exe file or doing something with fastboot flash? I'm stuck without a phone right now and any help would be appreciated.
In my situation, I deleted the user memory and dalvik cache. I then did some research on my phone's exact stock ROM. I flashed the ROM and basically started off fresh. It may not be the most convenient. But, it may be what is needed. It sounds as if your phone is 'soft-bricked' so this should work as the last ditch effort.
Best of luck!

Thankyou for your reply, I'm new to android and I'm wondering what exact steps went into flashing the stock rom onto your phone? Let's assume I already have that stock rom. Are you just using fastboot flash boot rom.zip ? or using CWM?
EDIT: My phone is now booting! I kept launching the RUU and after about four times it decided to work. Back to the stock AT&T rom, and right now I'm great with that.
forgive me if I posted in the wrong place, i'm new to these forums and to custom ROM's.
My friend rooted my HTC S One and installed the latest version of LeeDroid. Since there was no recent updates I wanted to change. I tried to install Dark Jell S Edition but phone wouldn't progress past HTC boot up logo, I reinstalled LeeDroid with no problems. I then followed the instructions to install Paranoid Android but the phone froze again on start up. The problem is I'm getting the "E: Can't mount /sdcard/ problem in CWM recovery v5.8.3.1.
Any advice to a noob?

Anyone else notice that whenever someone has this problem they are always using CWM?
And you are in the wrong forum, if you looked in Q&A the solution you are looking for is stickied.
I had same problem. I just flashed stock recovery and relocked bootloader, and run the HTC ruu program. It helped me.

I got it sorted by installing TWRP via HTC All-In-One kit and re-mounting SD card. However when trying to install LeeDroid the touchscreen was irresponsive. I tried Jell S One and this worked fine however I'm not a big fan of this ROM!
Yes it's me, your friendly neighborhood noob!
I am on the AT&T one x with HBoot 1.14 and I need help, I'm stuck in the Cyanogenmod 10 splash screen. I downloaded the lastest .zip from CyanogenMod's downloads and mounted and copied the file to my SD, then installed it using TWRP, then used the boot.img from the unzipped version of the file. It seemed to install correctly but now when I try to boot into CM10 it gets stuck on the splash screen. Let me know what other info I need to give and any help is appreciated. I know this problem is probably getting old but I've tried some things I've read in other threads and nothing is working. Thanks.

might wanna make sure you flash your boot.img via fastboot
read this article http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2064621 to get to know better about CM10.1 or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1790032 for CM10
they have all the instructions there, just need to read it. hope that helps.
note: its also better if you do S-Off, it will makes flashing the rom much easier check this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2155071
I posted a thread about this happening to me recently. Flash the boot.img from fastboot. Even after I did so, I had to flash the ROM and boot.img like 15 times before it finally worked

Did you flash the boot.img through fast boot? And did you wipe cache, dalvik cache and system? If coming from another rom you should mostly do a factory reset too.
thanks
Wow so I thought I had already wiped cache and factory reset but must not have because I did so again and it worked. Now I feel dumb. Thanks though for the links on CyanogenMod 10.1.
So, I recently got an HTC Desire S with H-Boot version 2.00.0002 and thus I could not use Revolutionary Tool to root it. The alternative to HTCDev unlock would be to use RUUs to downgrade the H-Boot but I could not figure out which RUU to select in the list at shipped-roms. Thus I HTC Dev unlocked it thinking that the only problem would be having to flash the boot.img of the rom I install separately.
But when I flashed Cyanogen Mod 10 and flashed the file, the rom worked. I had to restart it but i found that no matter what rom i install, the phone always boots to the recovery! I tried it with multiple roms includind the Xperia rom, and roms based on CM. Then I tried the Virtuous rom with the same result. Then I tried the Saga3d rom and it rebooted sucessfully!!!
Thinking the problem was solved, I flashed the CM 10 JB rom I wanted again but it once again booted to recovery when I rebooted it. Seems like the only way I can make them reeboot is to flash the boot.img file again and again! A thread suggested flashing 4ext recovery but the same thing happened. I even tried to reflash the Saga3d rom but it didn't reboot this time!!!
So after careful but failed research, i created this question. Can anyone help me? I think a new RUU with an earlier (0.9*) H-Boot would help but I don't know how to pick one!!! I'll post some pics and hope anyone will suggest me an RUU or other solution.
THANKS IN ADVANCE.
(P.S I'm using a custom rom right now (reaper) cuz I don't know how to find the stock)
Anyone?

Hi,
Thanks for the response but the problem is I don't know which one of these RUUs to select. I can't seem to find where to look for what are their supported cidnums, or build number, or software number. Thats why I hoped a pro would help me select one. My cidnum is HTC_001.
Thanks again. :good:
Hi guys, I had my one s on a lovely viper ROM, but recently I thought id try a lollipop ROM. Did all the prerequisites for flashing the ROM, so I went ahead and flashed Hboot_2-15_cyanide-5.1.1-RC-15.6-ville ROM. It failed to flash so I thought 'oh well ill wipe and go back'.
So I wiped and tried to install another ROM the problem was the SD card was nowhere to be found in TWRP, I eventually got the PC to reformat it for me.
Now TWRP can now see the SD card and I can USB files to it, but try and install any ROM, which they do without error, and you reboot after install all I get is a black screen and nothing else?
Fastboot and recovery work fine.
Any help would be appreciated.
