[Q] BRICKED - Sorry, need to ask for help - HTC One S

Hi. My Norwegian HTC ONE S (S4) cid: HTC__y13, unlocked with HTCDEV.
(I have spent 16 hours now trying to get any ROM back up, so yes I have been searching for everything)
I have been running Cyanogenmod but wanted to go back to stock because the official Jelly Bean is just around the corner. In Clockworkmod I went a bit crazy with deleting all /sdcard /data.... etc.. I dont know if this made the problem?
I thought the easiest way to go back to stock was with an RUU, but it stops in the middle of the installation. (the info file contains my cid: HTC__y13)
I later read that the phone must have S-OFF to use RUU, and S-OFF is not possible with HTC One S??
Also tested the trick with manualle installing the ROM.zip off %temp% (relocked, but fastboot returned (remote: 44 hboot version check fail)
I have tried to go back to custom rom, I install the zip from Clockworkmod, after reboot it shows the ROMS Logo, but it doesn`t start up, tried the Cyanogenmod I was running earlier + MIUI.US and Untøchåbles.
Last fix i tried was this, with the same result:
Yes, I just fixed my problem yesterday after some serious trial-and-error.
1) Use the All-in-One-Kit and flash your recovery back to stock
2) Boot into the bootloader and choose to "clear storage" and afterwards to reset to factory defaults.
3) Go back to the all-in-one-kit and flash a CWM recovery version again.
4) Reboot into recovery (CWM). Your /sdcard should now be mounted and visible.
5) Now, try the UTB rom (it worked for me), rename the zip file to something short (i.e. utb.zip), and push it to the sdcard using adb as follows:
Code:
adb push utb.zip /sdcard
6) While still in CWM, flash the zip.
The trick here is that only the stock recovery is capable of restoring access to the sdcard by it's proprietary "clear storage" option.
Good luck!
Sorry to bother you all, but is there any obvious reasons why my phone won`t boot?
Thank you in advance

You don't need soff to run ruu unless It's specific for this device. I never soff'd my amaze and still was able to flash ruu after renaming it
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using xda app-developers app

ERROR 155
Ok, maybe not... but I get ERROR 155 after a few minutes with RUU....
But If I only could get any custom rom running ...... argh!
I have a norwegian HTC one S, cid: HTC__y13, I can`t find an RUU for "Telenor" so I guess the "EUROPEAN" RUU is the correct one?

FIXED, Finally
Took only 20 hours of testing and failing....
Finally got the right RUU
1. Boot into bootloader
2. Flash stock boot - "ville_recovery_signed.img"
3. Clear Storage
4. Factory Reset
5. Most important of all.... get the right RUU... "RUU_Ville_U_ICS_40_S_HTC_Europe_2.31.401.5_Radio_1.06es.50.02.31_10.09a.50.04L_release_275655_signed"

Desire s stuck after 2.3.5 update

i tried to update via phone (after the notification), but after green bar was full, my phone rebooted and stuck in white screen with htc logo... if i try to enter in recovery i see this
h*tp://i39.tinypic.com/xdxnc5.jpg
it seems to be s-off (i bought it used) ...what have i to do for make it work again??
tnx.. and sorry for my bad english
same problem here, help is needed!
A golden rule: never update OTA on a modified device (custom ROM even modified Stock one, custom Recovery, Revolutionary hboot!, etc.)
How to fix:
do not pull battery!
flash a custom recovery (e.g. 4EXT) with the fastboot command (search for a how-to)
reboot to recovery, wipe all partitions and install custom ROM
Ok, to late with the battery, have already pulled that one out!
I also have S-Off on my phone, really dont understand the how to fix a recovery??
And is it really neccessary to flash a new ROM for this?
An official release that screwes the phones up?
I think the general issue is that an 'Official' OTA upgrade should not screw up your phone - enough testing by HTC should make sure of that.
Hoever, if you have modified your phone (e.g. by rooting it, installing custom recovery etc) then you can not expect to blame HTC when their upgrade doesn't work as expected. They can't be held responsible for problems caused by modifications you make to the phone.
But all I have done is S-Off, I have not installed another ROM or anything else?
So the update should work I really think!
Can I install a custom recovery without have to be able to start the phone?

The OTA flashes a new hboot also.
If you S-OFFed with Revolutionary your hboot has to be version 6.98.000x. This hboot has a protection and cannot be overwritten. This is the point where the update process is interrupted. The result is a bootloop, because the new system is incomplete.
If you can boot to bootloader (hboot) you should be able to flash a custom recovery with the fastboot command (in the 4EXT Recovery thread there is an attachement - a zip file that contains recovery.img). Extract the archive and flash it with this command from cmd (there is a guide how to make fastboot working in my signature):
Code:
fastboot flash recovery {path to file on your PC}/recovery.img
If this works reboot to recovery, wipe all partitions and flash a custom ROM. Then your phone should be working again.
Then if you want the OTA flash a 0.98.2000 hboot, then use the 1.47.401.4 RUU (if you are using European unbranded) or the corresponding for your brand/region to return back to complete Stock and S-ON. Then you will be prompted to update and you will have the latest OTA on your device
Okay, I have now fixed the 4EXT Recovery and it is working!
Do I have to put a new ROM on the SD-card or is there another way to install a ROM (from cmd with the ROM on the computer etc?)
I dont have an adapter to the SD-card, but maybe I can put the ROM on the sdcard with a command in cmd aswell?
What ROM do you recommend to use? (sense, no sense doesnt matter)
Edit: I did a backup as well, thinking that I should do that...
Can you link to zip file you used for recovery i have exactly same issue and same software versions as you have.
@ Mooler. First of follow the guide that was posted here regarding the adb-drivers.
After that download this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=631186&d=1308596026
Then install that one as described with the cmd-command.
After that just put a custom ROM or a shipped ROM on the SD-card, wipe data/cache and install the ROM you want. That solved the problem for me!
Good Luck and thanks for the help I got here! Xda always delivers
Damn this phone! After hours of fixing with this problem!
I managed great, installed new kernels, radios, ROMs etc. And the first thing I did was to drop it on the floor so the whole damn display cracked!
Thanks for both of you.
I managed to restore the phone quickly after i got the correct recovery file. 30 mins and custom ROM was up and running. Good bye official update.
Akerhage: sad to here, it really was hours of reading and trying before you get it right.

[Q] Issue with a 'soft bricked' phone? tried hboot and recovery, no avail

So this is the first time I was trying to unlock bootloader/root and then install jellybean on my htc inspire 4g
I was able to unlock the bootloader using EasyUnlockTool
Then I was able to root it using EasyAceRootTool
I tried to be oversmart and downloaded a rom of Jellybean called cm-JellyTime_42_R7.zip and tried to install through the clockworkmod app on Android and when it rebooted, it got stuck on the HTC inspire white screen with HTC logo. I knew something was wrong.
I formatted the SD Card (Fat32) full format and put a PD98IMG.zip and first tried to go through HBOOT but it was hung on Parsing....[PD98IMG.zip] for 4 hours
Then I took the battery out. and the sd card. made it go through the hboot screen, down to recovery and it rebooted to the ClockworkMod recovery tool. Where I tried the PD98IMG.zip again and it says Installating then says Installation Aborted.
before trying PD98IMG.zip I did try and download to RUU it using
RUU_Ace_Gingerbread_S_Cingular_US_2.47.502.7_Radio_12.56.60.25_26.10.04.03_M_release_200368_signed.exe
then RUU_Ace_Cingular_US_1.80.502.3_Radio_12.39.60.19_26.06.04.06_M_release_166557_signed.exe
but they all said this utility cannot install the rom on your phone , get the right utility, that happened right after 'sending...' portion of the RUU install.
So Now I am stuck with this and I don't how to move forward. any suggestions?
Because you are S-On, you need to extract the boot.img from the ROM zip and fastboot flash it each time you flash a ROM. I strongly advise that you search a little more before you freak out next time; that fact has been all over the forums recently.

[Q] SD card appears as only 48MB. how come?

Hi, seems like my One S's sdcard partition has corrupted. been using TWRP 2.500 and recently upadted to 2.6.30 to use the new Maximus Rom. During the rom installation, I wiped the sdcard sectrion by mistake so I couldn't get to flash the zip file, then, I've tried multiple times of recovery.img flashings via RUU mode or on the bootloader screen. Finally when I got the TWRP recovery mode again, it says the sdcard folder only accepts 48 MB so I cannot push any custom roms since they are bigger than 500MB... Any ideas? Should I send it to the repair shops? Please Help!! Thank you!
FYI, my phone was
Tampered, Unlocked, S-off
also, when I press mount button on TWRP, this list appears
Cache
Data
Internal SDcard
System
USB-OTG
but I select Internal SD, the computer says the removable disk has only 48MB of available space.(I wiped it multiple times!)

Yes, don't sweat it. It is repairable.
It's hard for my to tell what you missed, because you didn't write what you did. So just follow installation instructions in the first post of maximus Rom. (flash new firmware, modified recovery, then Rom).

All of these steps work for me except flashing the recovery as a ZIP. I get the wrong CID error (code 42 if i remember correctly). Thing is, I flash the .img directly usign fastboot flash recovery and that works but then the install process says, in android, transfer ROM. At this point, I don't have access to the SD card and the ROM is not in my sd card (it was wiped anyway?)
*EDIT*
Ok I changed my CID to 1111111 and now it works to flash the firmware. I still get partitions errors it seems though.
What I did is flash the stock recovery, clear storage, factory reset, reflashed the firmware given in Maximus thread, then the TWRP given and still, I get problems with my sdcard not mounting?

if you are talking about mounting usb storage in recovery, then no, you cannot do that on Maximus HD rom. (it's a modified TWRP to work on the new firmware)
You can sideload in TWRP or ADB push the rom to your sdcard.
I would give you a link to a page describing it, but search is unavailable right now, have to try later.
But just search that thread with keyword sideload. There you will find the exact commands to load the rom onto your sdcard.

I went back to CM, didn't like maximus so much and it didn't fix my EDGE only problem so
It went back to 48mb
Hi i had the same problem with my htc one s.So i paniced and for some reason i put s-on(I deleted the os from the pc using mount storage) I managed to fix it by installing the recovery as zip. Then i tried to adb sideload a rom but it didn't work. So i went to boot loader then to fast boot and did fastboot flash zip Energyrom.zip. That gave me an error so i went back to recovery to try to side load the rom again, but my sdcard went back to 48mb.I reflashed the recovery (the one from install package) same thing . What do i do????? I need help asap i want my phone back (IM ONLY 12) Please reply asap.

I think the easiest way is to flash the stock recovery and then do a sdcard wipe then a factory reset.
After that, you go through the process as described in the maximus rom thread, you will have to flash with sideload. That should work afterward
I am doomed
Hi guys,
Yesterday I decided to try MaximusROM 10.0.0 HD on my HTC One S, which is s-OFF and with superCID. The problem is: I didn't flashed first the rom as it was said, and I just used the Installation Package, installing directly the firmware.zip and the modified recovery. I tried to follow the steps written before, but now my phone works with the stock rom but it says that there are only 48mb in sd card, and that means that I can't even take photos, because I have no memory left. I found out that my phone, when is booted up, in settings says that I have 15,96GB of space for applications. What can I do?

[Q] Where Did I Mess Up?

This rooting crap used to be easier man, I swear. I think I literally rooted my Evo through the web browser. Whatever...anyway, it just seemed a lot less riskier back then. I havent had an Android phone since then so I was happy to see my One S come in the mail. Right now though, I'm hoping I didn't waste my money. I'm gonna try to retrace my steps as explicitly as possible so someone can help me easier.
1. Unlocked the bootloader thru HTC Dev
2. Used this to root
3. Install recovery, TWRP.
4. Downloading CM10.2 ROM and Gapps to flash thru TWRP.
5. Cant mount sdCard. The mount screen in TWRP gives you 4 check box options, cant check 'mount sd'
5a. (Can boot phone as normal until now. Was on stock rooted rom with no problems but I hate sense and wanted to switch)
6. Wipe everything; data, cache, dalvik, sd.
7. Cant see SD Card at all now. No OS. Stuck on white HTC startup screen if I dont go to bootloader/recovery.
8. At this point I just tampered around with random solutions from threads I found on google, now I can see my SD card in TWRP file manager but its still not mountable (Even when I could check 'mount sd' windows doesnt see anything).
9. Tried relocking bootloader, running RUU, error code 155.
10. Right now, stuck with tampered unlocked bootloader, s-on, cant install rom because sd card wont mount and cant push ruu because it errors within 2 minutes. This was from last night, and I havent touched it today, and I wont touch it until someone who actually knows what they're doing can tell me whats up.
help
Hi,
I had a similar issue.. I followed a tutorial on YouTube and the guy forgot to mention that the ROM needs to be on the SD before rooting.
And my device was not reconised by my computer (win 7).
I messed around with a few recovery's.. turned out i was using a older version and after flashing about 3 recovery's my computer reconised my device when mounting SD card.
Hope this helps.

Okay First I don't whether you have an S3 version (VilleC2) or an S4 version (Ville).
Understand this, when you format SD card using TWRP recovery, you can't mount it. It is because only the Stock HTC recovery is able to format the SD correctly.
What you ought to do now is:
1. Download stock HTC recovery for your phone version, S3 or S4.
2. flash the recovery through Fastboot using the command:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
3. Go to bootloader and select the option to erase Storage; if it's not there, then you will have to select Factory Reset, wiping your data and apps too.
Regards
Just use this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2471151
It will almost do all things for you, Unlock Bootloader, Flash recovery, Root ...
And remember, if abd console says "error: device not found" or when downloading and fail install "HTC MTP drivers" don't worry, it happened to me too.
Remember, you need flashed Recovery, to be able to Gain Root. And Unlocked Bootloader to flash Recovery.
Now I am back to original stock ROM, rooted.
Windows still not recognizing SD card after mount. it gives option to mount internal_sd, but folder that sd is located is called 'sdcard'? I flashed stock recovery, clear storage, then factory reset, then root, then flash twrp.
Even when I put a custom ROM and gapps on the sd through stock ROM, it bootloops after flash. It's like HTC really doesnt want me to appreciate anything other than their crap stock firmware.

Rooting the stock is not necessary flash a custom rom. Most roms that you flash are already rooted and root should be flashed in twrp if you just want a stock rooted rom
Flash the stock recovery, clear storage and factory reset. Then flash TWRP. If that doesn't boot for some reason you may need to flash the stock ruu.
If you chose to keep the stock firmware, you can download the superuser.apk from the playstore. When you run the app it will give you the option to reboot into TWRP to flash the root automatically.

Also, Win says SD card is 10GB. Does everything else really use up 6GB?

What CID do you have. Have you matched the RUU with the your CID. If the CID's don't match it will give you and error and not flash. If you are SuperCID you can flash any RUU but with a stock CID you need the RUU that matches it.

Useless HTC Sensation

HI! Today I got an HTC Sensation from a friend and it was laggy due to it's stock rom with preinstalled apps and stuff, so I decided to move to a custom ROM, the first one which caught my eye was 5.0 CM12 from the development section, so I copied it to sdcard.
I have managed to unlock the bootloader through the htcdev site and then flashed the lasted CWM Recovery available, 5.8.0 and then formatted cache, data, system, dalvik, because that's what I've always been doing on my Galaxy S2, it was very straight forward.
But now, I can't install a custom rom, tried that one and the slim pyramid one, even a cyanogenmod rom but still no luck. It would abort the installation and output an error about filesystems which can't be found or it woudn't say nothing but will restart the phone straight to recovery mode.
Also, tried 4ext recovery and still no luck. At this point I started panicking and tried to resolve this by installing the stock rom, RUU.
Downloaded RUU_PYRAMID_ICS_HTC_Europe_3.33.401.53_Radio_11.76A.3504.00U_11.24A.3504.31_M_release_280871_signed , which is the perfect match for my phone but also fails to finish installation, telling me something about failed/unknown mounts/filesystem... If it will help, I will tell you exactly what the error is.
At this moment I have S-On in bootloader, and can't see any radio serial metioned at the top. Tried some instructions flashing PG58IMG.zip , but it doesn't seem to do anything.
Please, help me out because at this point my phone won't go anywhere but bootloader and recovery.

install latest 4ext from here
http://d-h.st/rG7
extract the recovery.img and flash it via fastboot command
the command is fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
then from 4ext format all partitions except sdcard
enable smartflash( because you are on S-ON)
flash the custom rom
note: enable smartflash exactly before flashing the rom
Thank you very much! I've managed to install SKimKAT now. But how can I get S-Off permanent? Also, I can't install the stock RUU firmware.

It freezes on the "sending" stage for hours.
