So I've been trying to find why ROM manager should not be used with this device and I just see that I shouldn't. I came from a MyTouch 4G where that or 4EXT were standard.
What symptoms does ROM manager cause?
I've noticed that any ROM I try to flash that doesn't use aroma installer fails at checking the update package. Is this one and how do I avoid it?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA Premium HD app
Rom manager does not support our device so any recovery you flash is going to result in a bricked phone. It's just that simple. Even after installing the correct custom recovery, stay away from it because you won't find any compatible roms either. Not to mention that in order to flash a rom with rom mangler you first have to flash a recovery so it knows which roms to look for.

I have ROM manager on my phone already. Hasn't seemed to brick it yet. I just can't flash ROMs through it unless they are packaged with aroma. But wiping works fine.

How are you using it at all? Doesn't it prompt you to install a recovery?

He will learn.....soon to be a statistic, wanting to know how to unbrick his phone.
I'm more than prepared to fix a brick.
It flashes through the market app fine using the i9000(?) option. I can then reboot into recovery fine and flash/wipe/mount just fine. Though the model mismatch might also be causing the issue where I can't flash anything not packaged with aroma.

Your lucky flashing that recovery should have soft bricked your phone. This is not the i9000. That's the galaxy s international version of the phone. Then there's the t959 vibrant. And the t959w for wind Mobile. Which are all slightly different. Like i said really lucky. Sooner or later it's likely to burn you.

I know this isn't the I9000. Perhaps I should consider dusting off my coding knowledge and make a compatible recovery.
This phone is so much different than my old HTC glacier... -_-

We have cwm recoveries for the phone they just don't flash thru Rom Manager.

Given that CyanogenMod is dumping ROM Manager, it seems like energy could be better put elsewhere.

The original question still remains. What did you do to the phone? Did you root it? Flash a new ROM? Did nothing and it is just going crazy?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
If you flashed a custom ROM, I would do 2 things.
First, check if the poster of the ROM has the md5 check sum posted. If so, check it with your download to make sure it is complete and not corrupt.
Second, try installing it again without wiping or clearing anything. Just re-flash it over what you have now.
Also, if you are flashing a custom ROM and other mods, flash the ROM first and let it completely boot and go through the set up before installing any of the mods.

When I go into recovery it still shuts off and restarts I put the leaked ROM and radio on in hboot. Its still doing it

I put cm7 on it and it was fine. I put the google apps on. And that when it started. I used that file before and it worked fine.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Restored stock. Thanks for trying.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
If you try again make sure you clear out your caches before you flash CM7 and then when you get in make a backup. then after that flash the Google apps using rom manager. it should be listed in your apps after a fresh CM7 install. plus then if that screws up again restore the backup you had just made and try again
I got s on IM returning it. its still boot looping. I did use clockwork. I should have done it manually. Like always.... New tbolt tomorrow. Root and try again.

If I could have gotting in recorery life would have been grand. I got 4 differnt Roms backed up, fully set up and ready to go. I had so much time into setting each on up. guess thats how the cookie crumbles

After downloading the newest ROM manager from the market, it now looks like I have two recoveries installed. If I boot into recovery from ROM Manager, I get the new blue one (with int SD support). But if I boot from the power menu, I get the old one. Something tells me I screwed something up, and I'm not touching anything until somebody tells me how this is even possible. WTF did I do?

No problem there. ROM manager is only updated false flash rom. Old one is the nvflashed real one.

Ah. So is it safe to flash from either one? Having access to the internal SD would be a lot more convenient.
Also, is there a thread somewhere pertaining to this situation?
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
There is an even better scenario...download the utility by tgagunmann in the development section, and flash the latest cwm, which allows both internal and external from boot recovery.

Clean up tools are not good. If you can't wipe system/data factory reset in cwm you don't need to be flashing roms.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Well I did because in the op for cleanup batch he was having the same problem so I tried it didnt work and I know how to flash and wipe through cwm. I work in a place that does not allow radios and I love to have music when I work and the only way I can do that is Bluetooth.

Sorry to hear that out does not solve the issue for you. The reference link in the op includes the method with gb 2.3.3 just flip the recovery in the folder so you have cwm as the reference will push stock.
BTW if you don't need mute with bluetooth you should switch to anything over 2.3.3 as for some reason the disconnect problem gets resolved that way... I couldn't as I must have mute over bluetooth

Are you using CWM or ROM Manager? If the answer is CWM, did you use ROM Manager or NVflash?
Also, have you tried a different ROM, or just the same one?

Basically what the first reply was, but wanted to add in so you know,
If you used ROM Manager to do basically anything, you need to NVFlash CWM and than always use CWM to flash anything. ROM Manager does whats called a fake flash of CWM.
And than yes, which ROM(s)?

well i tried flashing stock and it works but when i rebooted after the LG boot Screen the screen is all black and the backlight just keeps flashing on and off... any suggestions?
Search the G2x development forum for Batch Cleanup Tool. Run that, then flash a stock ROM. Boot that ROM once, then try a custom ROM.

Which stock ROM are you installing? Have you tried downloading it again, to make sure it's not a bad download?
Also which CWM are you using? if you're using touch, rev ert back to an older version

I'm trying to root my s3 and the goal is in the end to put cm on it. I'm bummed the installer doesn't work for our phone, but is there a good guide on here or elsewhere with the files I'll end and a how to?
Thanks in advance ( FYI, I've flashed and rooted multiple times before just never cm)
If you stop by Google and go to CyanogenMod's page, find the phone in the devices section. There are device specific guides there. If you want to try something else, go to the original development section, find the CyanogenMod ROM and follow the directions there.

I've found the site but I'm not too familiar with some of the steps needed. I've re rooted my device, I know now I need to unlock my bootloader. There used to be an app on the play store for this, is still there and whats the name of it does anyone know?

Never used an app but using an automated system like that without knowing how to do it the real way ends up crippling you for the long road of wonderful Android. Here is a link to a sticky that has your info:

Read the instructions here once rooted/unlocked

Yeah, those didn't really help me...if I gave the file on my sd card should I be able to flash it from there with rom manager or goo manager?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
If you're rooted, and unlocked, do you have your nandroid backup set up with custom recovery? From there just use Goo Manager to boot into recovery, and then wipe your cache and then flash your ROM and appropriate Gapps pack. Process was fairly simple on my SIII using TWRP. Make sure you look up the appropriate Gapps zip before starting or you will wind up with key features inoperable and will have to reboot and load it onto your phone before finishing setup.
You'll like CM 10.1.x on the SIII, it runs very smoothly.
Nothing in the post I linked mentions Rom manager. The instructions work if followed.
Don't forget to do this either. Just in case. I've never had to restore, but i still have A & B covered

Not necessarily. I think I flashed my SIII with about 85%. Then again, I did most of the steps with it plugged into the charger EXCEPT for flashing the rom itself. It took about four or five minutes tops.
Has anyone tried both cm and slimbean? I'm thinking of trying slimbean first bc I have usee cm in the past but I keep reading slimbean is stable and gives great battery.
