I ran a lag fix on my phone and it booted and gave me a million force close boxes. i'd like to flash the stock firmware and start from scratch but everytime i run the one click odin .exe i get all threads completed fail. i wanted to make sure as well, the way i get to download mode is holding all 3 buttons, volume up/down and power till the att comes up a second time. when it does i let go of everything except volume down and it gets me to the android system recovery screen. I've now done the master clear which first tells me it fails but then says completed i then just pressed start and it tells me it fails. what am i doing wrong here. i am phoneless!!! help!!!!
Edit: to get into download mode turn the phone off, hold both volume buttons and plug the phone in while odin application is already running on your pc
You need to get into download mode. The button combination you're talking about gets you into recovery mode. These two are different things.
To get into download mode, do this:
1. Make sure your phone is not connected to your computer and the power is off. Pull the battery if you have to.
2. Start the odin one click program.
3. Press and hold the volume down button while connecting the phone to your computer. You should see the download mode screen on your phone (android with the shovel).
4. Make sure odin detected your phone. If so, press start.
Good luck!

Hey thanks for the reply, i've tried so many different combinations of holding buttons to get into a different mode and the phone just wont do it. i assumed the recovery mode was the one everyone was talking about. when i try what you suggested, taking out the battery putting it back in, leaving the phone powered off and holding the volume down and plugging the phone in all it does is bring up the green battery symbol and nothing else
EDIT:
Ok, it was that i had to hold both the volume buttons and then plug the phone in. that got me into download mode. awesome. plan to try the froyo rom then. thanks
Oops, thanks for the correction.
Good luck with the Froyo ROM. I think I'll wait until the Captivate kernel is ready for 2.2.

So I flashed CleanROM 3.0.
The problem is, I always mess up the button presses when rebooting to recovery. On my Atrix (CM7), and my Transformer (Revolver), there was a simple "boot to recovery" option.
Anyone know of a method to get this done on the HOX?
Not really being a noob, but my fingers aren't very coordinated...lol.

In Clean ROM, just hold down the power button and choose reboot > reboot bootloader.
Or download a reboot app from Google Play such as Quick Reboot.
Quick boot works well
This is a bit silly but I can't seem to be able to get into the bootloader if my phone is off.
I can get into it by when it's on by holding Vol Down when resetting it but holding Vol Down while holding the power button when it's off doesn't seem to be working. If I let go of Vol Down, it just boots up normally.
most of the time I'm booting to recovery my phone is connected to my computer because I've just put a ROM on SD card storage
so I just adb reboot recovery

Don't let go of volume down at all until it's in bootloader.

Disable Fast Boot (settings > power).
Yeah disable fast settings but I always have problems too. What I do, I hold power and volume down, and if it doesn't work I let go of power FIRST. Then the next time I try it almost instantly boots into BL. But most ROMs have "reboot into recovery" option under the reboot when you hold down the power button while the phone is actually booted up. Every ROM I've tried on here does including CM9.
Turns out I wasn't holding it down for long enough, especially compared to my old Desire which was much quicker.
Thanks.
Thanks guys, I completely missed the option in the power menu while hitting restart lol.

Ok. I bought this Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 from a friend for cheap because I thought I could fix it, but I'm running out of options. It's in a boot loop, but an abnormal boot loop. If it's unplugged, It will do the splash screen (Samsung) boot loop. If it's plugged in, either into the wall or into my computer via usb, it will do a battery (charging) boot loop. It's kinda weird. I used to have an Epic 4G and it happened damn near all the time, without the battery loop, but it would charge normally.
I haven't successfully gotten it to boot into Download mode.
If any of you have come across this issue, please feel free to help me out.
I also attached a picture of me attempting to put it in download mode. It reboots if I hit either VOL up or VOL down.
Thanks

Can you get into recovery? Also, have you tried unplugging the charging cable and getting into download mode with the cable unplugged?
I'm not sure how to get into recovery. With it unplugged, all I have to do hold the VOL Down physical button and ti will take me to a "are you sure you want to put the device into download mode screen". I apologize. I'm not to familiar with this device.
Edit: After I get to the screen where it asks me if i want to go into download mode, it reboots within 5-10 seconds, no matter which button I press

Hold power and Volume up (volume button closest to the power button) until the tab shuts off and reboots itself and then you can let go of both buttons. If it works, try doing a factory reset. Was this tablet rooted (or have a custom rom installed) in the past?

As far as I know it's been on Stock. My GTab ignores me holding the Power and Volume up keys at the same time and keeps the boot loop going strong.

No, his device is fine.
If your device bricked, but still showing Gtab2 logo on it, it's still fine. You need to flash to stock 4.03 rom via ODIN. (Not clockworkmod)
Warranty won't work if you have flashed custom ROM before.

He needs to be able to get into Download Mode to use Odin. He stated that he can't. When he tried to continue into download mode by pressing volume up (vol. button closes to power button) the tablet reboots. It needs warranty service.
Experiments:
Power off the tab completely and charge completely and press power +volume up for 10 seconds then release, also try to power off and press power+ volume down for 10 seconds then release do you see any screens
If it says do you want to enter download mode or so press volume up and see if you could see (downloading) try also the same with volume down instead of up
Try to connect to computer do you see any messages indicating connections
Also try to connect to kies and try restore or recover firmware from options of kies
You said it reboots after 5 to 10 seconds so try to open odin and try to go to download mode and when you press volume up try as quickly as possible to connect tab to pc while odin is open

There's other method by using OpenRecovery (OR), by putting OR on external SdCard,
but it seems the OR for Gtab2 is not developed yet -__-
I recently flashed a Paranoid ROM (nightly build v1.991, Aug 21) downloaded using GooManager.
All worked fine initially, until recently the power button stopped responding/working.
I tried rebooting the phone by taking the battery out (I did not have to press power button, since it auto-starts), but it did not help.
I could enter the fastboot mode while rebooting by pressing Power button + Volume up button.
However in fastboot mode, the volume rockers (which work everywhere else, eg: recovery) along with power button, were not responding , also "fastboot devices" command did not recognize any device.
Now, to re-flash the Paranoid ROM or a stable ROM, I needed the power button in CW Recovery.
So I was left with a single option of flashing the Touch-CW recovery without fastboot mode.
I managed to do that using Terminal app (the one that opens the shell from the underlying kernel) from the ROM itself.
Now I could flash ROM using the Touch-CW recovery.
I tried re-flashing the Paranoid ROM, flashing a stable CM ROM but none helped.
Latter, I tried various drivers (PDAnet, Samsung, raw adb drivers from Android SDK) and toolkits to get the fastboot mode working but to no avail.
Note: The "adb" commands work correctly when the Nexus S is connected in USB debugging mode.
But no matter what the fastboot mode and the power button do not work!
Please help!
Details of device:
Nexus S, I9023, (SLCD version).
Kernel: 3.0.38-CyanogenMod
Jelly Bean v4.1.1,
Paranoid Android v1.991.
Update 1:
Recently I have updated to paranoid 2.0 (September 7) build. The problem still persists.
Update 2:
Nexus S has been bricked, I suppose!
It now does not start and gives no response to pressing of any combination of the keys(hard and soft).

That's normal, because your power button is broken, that has nothing to do with the ROM. If you take a moment and search the web you'll see it's a very common problem for Nexus S.
Send your phone for repair if it's under warranty or if you're ready to afford the repair from Samsung. Otherwise you can fix it yourself if you have experience with small electronics, although I would advise against it.
Thanks for the quick reply. However, I'm able to start the phone in fast boot mode by holding down the power and volume buttons.
Also, any thoughts about the buttons not working in fastboot mode?

Again, known problem. With a quick search you're able to find answers to these questions.
Whenever the power button breaks, often enough it will stay stuck as pressed in thus activated. Fastboot can only react to one button press at a time thus will act as if the power button was being held. The volume rocker will not be able to work as long as the power button is "held". And since it's broke, it's continually held, so you can't scroll.
You can technically and in practice live with the power button not working. Many people manage to do so.
-From within Android, you can reboot to recovery using either an app or an embedded menu in many custom roms. Using a touch recovery such as CWM 6.0.1.0 or 5.8.0.2 you can use it without any problem.
-To wake up your phone from sleep you can use volume rocker wake embedded in some custom roms.
-To put it to sleep you can use shortcut apps/widgets, a notification bar shortcut, let the timeout do it's work or use a proximity/light sensor app.
Thank you once more.
I am already doing well without the power button, by using volume rocket to switch on the display and touch CW recovery.
To clarify that power button is functional, I tried to enter fast boot mode by only holding down the volume up key, but couldn't enter it as power button was not pressed.
Also the volume rockers work properly in recovery, hence if the power button was continuously being pressed , they would malfunction.

Does it work properly EVERY time (and I mean that) while in Android?
Fastboot and recovery are different beasts though. I've not heard of problems in recovery when the power button was stuck, unlike fastboot.
It's possible your power button hasn't failed you completely yet. They tend to be flaky at first then one day just out right stop working. Sims22 on these boards has one that works if he smacks his phone a bit, to give you an example.
yeah they work every time as I described.
Actually I'm trying to put back stock ROM in it , with stock kernel and everything else stock.

I'm also having this issue. I'm able to get into boot loader. But volume cursor doesn't seem to work. It how ever works fine however in another other time.
I want to Odin. Since I restores everything completely to stock. How ever I cannot get into download mode at all. Tried adb. Different apps. And hold volume up/down while plugging USB

I also tried ODIN and Nexus Root Toolkit. But was locked in fast boot mode. Then I pulled off the battery to reboot, and that was the last time the Nexus worked.
I recently opened up the nexus to verify that the power button is functional, it is working correctly.
I guess time for the Samsung service center guys to work on it.

You need to let go of power, but keep holding vol down. If you don't let go of power, nothing will happen (except the phone shutting off).
The most surefire way (works in just about any situation) is to hold power and volume down. Don't let go of volume down until I say so later. The capacitive buttons will flash after about 5 seconds. Then the buttons will stop flashing, the screen will turn off (if it was on). After that, release the power button, but keep holding volume down until the white bootloader screen shows up.
If the screen turns on at all, the phone will always be able to go to bootloader. Failure to get into bootloader is almost always a matter of the user not performing the button sequence properly, rather than an issue with the phone.
