hello, i have uploaded my rom to ICS and have it been using for the past 4 months
last week i came in to the issue of the battery status being unknown, 999% or 1000% battery power
i've fixed this issue in the past by flashing the rom
but this time i have trouble, it seems that ever time now that the phone is powered off and powered back on the battery status returns to 999%
i have uploaded the rom egb-nightly-2012-07-01-signed on my phone and no matter how many times i flash the battery status is lost
so i am here wondering if there is a simple fix to this, downloading a apk file or anther way to configure the phone so it will read my battery status or do i have to simply buy a new battery?
please help and thank you in advance
You sure you did the flash right?

Did you reset batt stats in recovery?
Also when this did happen to me, i was always told to just cycle AP mode, and it did work.
Yours seems more persistant though.
I would make sure batt is fully charged (charge it with phone off if your that unsure) and than first boot goto cwm and clear batt stats.

ok im flashing right now as we speak, this is what i am doing
wiped data/factroy reset - Done
wipe cache partition - Done
wipe dalvike cache - Done
and this time im also wiping battery stats - Done
installing egb-nightly-2012-07-01.zip - Done
wiped again in rom install file
installing gapps-ics-20120420=signed.zip - Done
phones first boot----battery status set 100%
unplugging phone now and rebooting - battery still reading 100%
reboot #2 - battery reading 100%
reboot #3 - battery reading 100% problem maybe fixed
if issue continue i will carry on with this forum
i seem to be having trouble with the quick reboot now... seems to be just powering down my phone....
I've had trouble with the reboot before in eaglesblood and to be frank I think its normal to some degree for most roms. As for the battery problem I've noticed in my experiences that if something like that were to occur it usually dealt with my kernel but I mostly run 7.2 and not ICS so there maybe some differences here.

thank you for the response
last night i modded the dpi and installed the market mods and rebooted the phone and the phone battery info crashed again...
anyways today i flashed my phone loaded a older version of ICS, reboot my device and the battery status is still working after i changed my dpi, for some reason i feel the issue is fixed now but i will post in the future if this issue carries on
thank you
ok i was updating framework animations and yet my battery went back to 999%... WTF
why is it doing this?
ive never had so much trouble with my phone
what am i doing to the phone that it makes it do this
i ask again could this be just battery issues?
I had a lot of issues with the phone reboot myself. That sounds crazy. My only issue I had was the date and time would not sync off my Sim card. Seems like a lot of people don't like the eb rom and I don't know why cuz I love it.

The battery shows you 999%?, maybe a baseband problem...
but like iron man would say... 999%??? cool....

My phone came with 2.3.3 and it would shut down randomly all the time. Now after installing CWM recovery and flashing with the latest CM7 nightly (124), I am still experiencing reboot issues in the middle of calls. Any suggestions guys ?
Could anyone recommend a more stable rom maybe ?
Returning the phone is out of question because I bought it off ebay.
thanks

Go back to a nightly around 100 or 105 or so. Seriously, I believe the radio interface layer got all dicked up at some point in the last month or so of nightlies.
I went back to 105 and am no longer having issues. After nightly 115 or so I was getting reboots during calls and SOD w/ overheating.
I was having the same problem and I'm also running CM7 Build 124. I went to T-Mobile and had them give me a brand new battery and now I have no reboots or any other type of problem. Running the way I expect it to be. Hope this helps.

Yea, it also shuts down (not reboot) every time I charge the phone. If changing the rom does the solve the problem, i'll try replacing the battery next time around.
Thanks guys
I had the same problem when I was running Weapon G2X, phone would shut down in the middle of the convo. Flashed CM7 and haven't seen the issue. My phone still has a problem though that is pissing me off. I will put it on the charger at night and wake up in the morning to find the phone is off. Press the power button and it boots right up. I am going to try a new battery and see if that fixes this problem cause obviously flashing roms hasn't fixed it.
Did anybody get around to changing batteries, if so did that end your reboot issues/sleep of death?

I have flashed the most commonly used roms including CM7 nightly 124, weapon g2x 2.5, and eagles blood 1.9. I have used each for at least 5 days and noticed that all of them cause shutdowns while charging. currently using eagles blood because it is the only rom which does not reboot the phone while on a call.
but still, the phone shutting off while charging is very irritating. i'll be getting a new battery within week. any suggestions where i can buy one from ?
You're gonna need a new phone... Flashing custom ROMs isn't gonna fix it for you. I had that problem with my first G2x, and ended up getting a replacement. The reps are pretty lenient, so it's worth a shot to try to get a replacement.

Have you tried calling T-Mobile at all?
You could try using a different charger (other then lg charger). I have seen online some people have had this work for them. I haven't had this problem, just thought I would pass on what I have read.
Good luck, hope this helps

Do you have the latest baseband yet? If not, try to use the LG update tool to update your phone first. Many ppl gave this issue just because they don't update their phone originally

already updated !
uh the charger SOD bug is due to the rom not battery/phone specific. charging off pc is a temp workaround. had the same issue leaving the phone on the charger for extensive time frames and would have to pull the battery.

Baseband has nothing to do with the frequent shut-offs.
Same here
I had the same problems. Then I realized whenever it rebooting randomly, it was really really hot. My fix was set cpu and faux123's cm7 0.4.1 sv kernel, no reboots in 3 months!!!

Before "flashing" a new "rom," try the following procedure to ensure the new operating system behaves...
- be sure to "wipe data/factory reset"
- be sure to "wipe cache partition"
- be sure to go to "mounts and storage" and "format /system"
- be sure to go to "advanced" and "Wipe Dalvik Cache"
- NOW, you may INSTALL the rom you copied to your sd card
- be sure to go to "advanced" and "Fix Permissions"
- be sure your battery is FULLY CHARGED, go to "advanced" then "Wipe Battery Stats"

and why would you recommend that ? do you have any particular explanation as to why this will solve the reboot issues with the phone ?
Just installed new rom on phone.
Keeps rebooting every couple of minutes. Now I am not sure if it happened before I installed rom or not as I just went straight ahead and installed it as I have just received a replacement handset from a broken screen.
Any help?
Sense rom? Aosp rom? Rom name? Root? No root? More info man...
*Swaypovano sa Desire S BRE*
Saga3D v3.0 (Desire S official Sense 3.0) - [2.3.5] OTA 2.10.401.5
That rom. Installed the new hboot and orig stock kernal
Assume you have rebooted into recovery and wiped data, cache and dalvik cache, then tried to reboot?
Yes, I have done that a couple of times. I left it on connected with cable overnight and it doesnt seem to have rebooted. Seems to point to a battery problem??
It does boot properly. But after a minute it just restarts.
Edit. A bit more testing and it doesnt reboot when using a game or app. As soon as it closes to main screen it seems to just reboot as the screen goes into standby.
Edit 2. I have changed setting to stop screen turning off and its not done a reboot for the whole 10 minutes.
Does anyone think its a warranty claim? Or any more things to try?
Warranty claim seems a bit drastic, I'd try installing the rom again, or try a different rom, Endymion is sense 3.5 and stable... I was toying with it today, or pre rooted stock or even cm7 which at least you know is also rock solid
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda premium
Just tried cm7 and it does the exact same.
Edit.... tried 4 different roms now. Going to go to stock with s-on and test. Then back to the shop again
Edit 2. Just use RUU on it and it is the same. Looks like I need to return it yet again.
Any more tips before I take it back in?
I had the same problem after 2.3.5 update. Went back to old version and it's fine now.
Assuming that you are not OC or UV then continue, else adjust to stock settings and re-try.
I recall a couple of others having a similar problem that was caused by either
a) loose battery connection, resolved by placing a piece of folded paper on top of battery to ensure it sat solidly in the slot.
b) dodgy battery, suggest that you contact HTC support, explain that phone keeps rebooting you suspect battery and request that they post you a new battery - don't post old battery back until you are sure its the battery at fault.
Hello! Long time lurker, first time poster. I finally got around to making an account.
So, I'm having an issue when applying Da_G's overclocking kernels (Here).
The issue proliferates when I go into CWM and apply the AT&T .42 kernel and the 1.83ghz overclock script from the recovery menu. Basically, after cleaning the cache and the dalvik cache, I apply the .zips of the .42 kernel and the script, and reboot, and then I get a restart cycle that ends after the Samsung screen. I went ahead and did a full wipe of the phone, restored via ODIN to stock, and then tried flashing it again and this time I got to an "Android" logo followed by the same power cycling (this time with the camera LED flashing).
The strangest thing is that before I took my first Skyrocket back for dead pixels, I had gotten it running just fine before. But the last two I've had won't do it and get stuck in the aforementioned restart cycle.
I decided that it really wasn't worth the risk of bricking my phone (since I just got out of my 30 day warranty and had to take the phone back twice for dead pixels and the phone not turning on one day), and I guess in the end I'm just curious as to why I was having this issue. I guess if it's something stupid I'm doing, I'd go ahead and do it (especially since I have plans for that performance boost).
Anyways. Feedback appreciated.
The 1.83 isn't very stable that's what's causing the problems. Go one step down on the script
Alright, I'll try it right now. Maybe it was a fluke that it worked the first time.
EDIT: It booted up, but, then it shuts off when I open CPUTuner, but, they're talking about that in the official thread. Thanks!
1.83 is not stable and 1.78 and 1.72 are most stable with oc.

After running it for a few hours, now I'm getting Sleep of Deaths. I really want to speculate that it's the .42 version that I'm running, but, I haven't tinkering with it enough. I think I'll try downgrading to .3 to see if that fixes the issues, as that's what people seem to be saying is the most stable, and it's the one I ran before.
And if that doesn't work, eh, I'll flash back to stock kernel. Thanks guys.
Edit: Yeah, still getting SOD, flashing stock.
Did you try deleting your modules folder?
I had the same problem, 'cept I cranked it to 1.89ghz. I just flashed the stock att kernel and everything worked fine

does it require rooting???
Do you have a lot of apps and don't wanna lose the settings?
if not or if you don't care about setting them up again why not do a factory data reset and just erase everything and start from scratch?
i would suggest a you make a backup first but you're probably not rooted and even if you do, the backup might not work since it might also back up any wrong settings or something like that (i might be wrong here)
Why not root your phone? you can always unroot and relock the bootloader if you are worried about warranty.
edit: BTW any custom ROM requires you unlock your bootloader and install ClockworkMod recovery. so you would have to do that first in order to flash the AOSP roms.
but what abt the battery issue...
it is the main problem of all...

Have you looked at the battery usage under system settings > battery?
it likely is be a misbehaving app since you say several apps don't work correctly.
this should also go away with a flash of a ROM or doing the factory data reset.
Edit:
My wife has having similar problems after the ICS OTA update. she had a lot of apps and a bunch of widgets on the home screens, the phone was sluggish and some apps didn't work right or were FC'ing. In the end she just did a factory data reset and started from scratch and the phone is stable and feels faster and all apps are working fine now.

tried ICS stock rom.
No battery problem. similar life compared with 2.3: about 1.5 days
but ICS is running slower than 2.3. Though speed still acceptable, but I want the 2.3 speed

Since I cannot yet post in the development section, I'll hope to have some response here. Upon installing the unofficial CM11 mod in combination with pink kernel, I came across a stubborn bug: the battery indicator is invariably stuck at 1%.
A clean reflash (even /system format) did not help. I flashed back the stock ROM, wiped everything and reflashed the CM11 with no difference so far.
Has anybody got an explanation/bug fix? Thanks in advance..

I had this same issue even in stock ROM... just let the battery drain completely til the phone switches off and then charge the phone and boot... it worked for me... :fingers-crossed:
I had this happen to me on stock as well the first day I owned the phone. Left it on the charger all night and on less than ten minutes of use the battery showed 1%. Charged back to full and haven't seen it again. I think server people have experienced this bug.
