[Q] Help getting root access to the file system via application - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

OK first off new here so thanks in advance for any help. I "have/had" a rooted S3. I copied a new framework-res.apk file that resides in \system\framework. when the phone rebooted it gets to the main launch screen however I cant do anything. error says com.android.phone has stopped and android ui stopped. I have a copy of the original file however I cant get root access to the folder i need to place it in using Android commander. inside android commander it says "root access unavailable" Any Ideas???
im in the process of downloading the stock rom using section 6 of the how to guide however if there is a way to just transfer the file back that would be better than starting over.

problem installing APK

I'm a HTC Desire S owner. I've problem installing APK files. It shows "There is a problem parsing the package" when trying to install apk files in ES File Explorer. It only happens when the apk files are in SDcard. It don't happen when install apk files which are located in my PC thru WiFi with ES File Explorer. It don't work with ASTRO file manager either. But I can install with AndExplorer and can install from PC (with DroidExplorer). I mostly use ES file manager and wanna install with it. I'm currently using latest version of ES file explorer. I've already checked "Allow installation of non-market apps" in setting. It did not happen with Stock ROM. Happened while using Saga3D, I don't know what I accidently did. I change to new rom 'Virtuous Quattro (ICS) and it still occur. Now I'm on Hyperion and it is still happening. Please help me.

I cannot tell you the reason for this issue, but it's well known. just download the apk on your Pc and put on Sd card then.
And Sometimes you are downloading an corrupted apk, simply download the app somewhere else.
Sent by my fingers to your head.
They say this error is likely attributed to:
1) Some strange apk not fit for the device. so, try downloading compatible apk.
2) Problems with Dalvik cache. try wiping cache & dalvik cache.
The reason for this is that the app is not downloaded completely. The download may have been interrupted on your phone due to some reason. On PC, the apps are downloaded uninterrupted, so no parsing error.

Thanks. Good to know

This occurs in case of corrupted downloads, where the file is shown as completely downloaded but actually some bits are lost while downloading. Very common when the downloading is done on the phone itself. Try downloading via PC and then transfer the apk to the sd card and you should be fine. I came across this when downloading an apk from the xda site itself (in the app development forum i think) and everytime i tried downloading on the phone, i got a parsing error... but as soon as i downloaded on PC and transferred it to phone, it installed right away!
I'm sure APK file is not corrupt. I can install with AndExplorer but not with ES File Explorer. I reinstalled ES File Explorer, but still not working.

Well then i guess you can say goodbye to ES File Explorer and stick to AndExplorer if this solves your problem!
Whatever works for you man! At least you found a workaround...I used to go crazy when i got these parsing errors!!!
Or try a different memory card. I have a Kingston micro-SD which gave me sleepless night awhile.
apk Problem
Have tried to check your Android Minimum SDK Version you have at your Program ??
Check this file and check your device
<uses-sdk
android:minSdkVersion="19"
android:targetSdkVersion="20" />
I have faced this problem with old versions , and resolved it by changing the appropriate minSdkVersion

APK installation Astro File Manager issue
For me, the APK installer in Astro File Manager doesn't work atm.
I see a brief scanning popup window but then it disappears.
Until they fix it, it's best to avoid launching APKs from Astro File manager.
If you think your APKs installs are using Astro File manager as the default app, you need to clear it.
On a Samsung Galaxy S7, I had to
1. Settings > Applications > Application manager
2. More (Reset app preferences)
3. If you have Samsung Kids Mode installed, you need to run and reconfigure it (if you don't you'll get annoying popups because Kids Mode app is now unstable until you reconfigure it)
4. Return to ES File Explorer and launch the APK (if there are still issues, continue to step 5)
5. Go back to Application Manager (i.e. repeat step 1)
6. More (drop down menu on top right) > Show system apps
7. Scroll down and locate Package Installer
8. Set as default
9. Try again

You have most probably messed the systemUI.apk which is located in /system/app or files associated with it. Did you remove any other apk's in which you weren't sure what it does?
In this case, Factory reset won't work because it just wipes user data and /system partition remains in tact. The nearest possible thing to do is to flash a stock ROM if exists or copy the deleted apk's borrowing from some one else's phone and place those apk's in /system/app partition setting the correct permission.
I remember exactly what I deleted. I I uninstalled Dhingana.com, Facebook and Rail yatra. I cannot start third party apps though I can install them. So I am not sure how to place the systemUI.apk in the directory /system/app. Can it be done through inbuilt file manager?

Nope, I guess not possible through default file manager. You have to use ES File Explorer File Manager or Root Explorer to place it in /system/app and change its permissions to rw-r-r.

Make sure you've mounted the /system partition as R/W before attempting to Copy or setting permissions.

First this app will only work on a stock/stock base ROM. Second, you need a root file app, like root explorer or root browser. In root explorer you have to select to give r/w permission.
Go to the location of the app, long press it and select copy. Then navigate back to
/system/app and paste it. Then long press it again, select permissions and make it rw-r--r--. Then reboot
Hopefully this will install for you. If it doesn't than the apk itself would need to be modified.
One last thing, if you have another sec.player.apk in system/app, you might need to change it from .apk to .bak then reboot before you begin the other process. You can just rename it back to
.apk and make sure permissions are right then reboot to re-enable it.
Lies, spewed poetically from galaxy S3!

I need help PLEASE!

Hello guys. Maybe you can help me. I tried this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-...using-t3088431
As the step 6 says, there wasn't such a line so I created it. As some of the first comments stated, when I restarted, I got stuck in the AT&T logo screen. After a few attempts of restarting it wont do anything else. so I tought that a master reset would fix it. I was able to reset it however, it asks me to set up the phone (common stuff, set language, pick wifi, set google account etc) but when those steps are done it takes me back to language screen, and then repeats all over again
Im stuck in that infinite loop. One thing is that at certain screen I'm able to access the settings, and we managed to put the phone in "easy mode" which allows me to use the phone, however, I cant go back to normal mode because it will get stuck in that same infinite loop. This is what I have:
LG-H950
Android 5.1.1
Kernel: 3.10.49
V: H95011x
I need HELP!!
Thanks
First of all, the link doesn't work. http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-g2/help/enable-tethering-att-lollipop-using-t3088431
So you said that your phone is stuck in a boot loop. I think that you have to reflash the original kdz.

I just checked the link and is working. If you still cant see it, this is what it says:
Things needed for this
Root
ES File Explorer File Manager
SQLite Editor
Steps:
Open ES File Explorer and from Fast Access Bar, From "Tools" Turn "Root Explorer" on
Go to this folder "\data\data\com.android.prodivers.settings\databas e" and copy "settings.db" file to "\SDCARD\Downlad" path
Open SQLite Editor and go to "FILES" tab from the top and open "settings.db" file from "\SDCARD\Downlad" path
Hit "system"
Search for the term "tether" in all fields
Change the value of "tether_entitlement_check_state" to 0 (If the entry is not there, create such)
Copy and replace original "settings.db" file from "\data\data\com.android.prodivers.settings\databas e" with our edited "settings.db" file from "\SDCARD\Downlad" using ES File Explorer
Restart the device immediately
Enjoy your ability to set up a mobile hotspot!
And, sorry for my ignorance but, how do I reflash the original kdz?
Can someone help me?
Use LGUP, select refurbish, choose the tot file, press start.

[Help] Upgrade Android Stock Files app

I was cleaning my phone until I found a "jpeg" file with a very long name on my Downloads folder, I realized it was a wallpaper I downloaded from Chrome; I had to download it a few times because it didn't shows in the "downloads folder" (that is something that I faced too with my Pixel 1)
When I try to delete it I just got a message of "impossible to delete".
I tried with another file manager and for my surprise there is no file with such name in the downloads folder, I thought it was an error with the built-in file manager of Android 10, so, I tried some things like restart the phone, cleaning almost all useless jpeg files, and without success at the end I tried to "uninstall updates" from the built-in file manager; I did it with no problem at all...sadly, the file remains there...so, I tried to upgrade the app again downloading the last apk available on internet but as I expected it just says "not installed".
Is there a way to delete that wild jpeg file?
Can I upgrade the built-in file manager again?
The phone works fantastic despise those things and I don't want to factory reset it.
My only worry is the app never updating again until I factory reset the phone or having an error when I got a major update due to the app that was downgraded.
Can you navigate to the directory in a terminal emulator and see the file there with the "ls" command?
