Please help - HTC Desire S

I tried to unlock bootloader with HTC DEV.It unlock and instali recovery but every rom i install is not runing???The phone is S-ON with HBOOT 2.00.002. PLEASE HELP

Flash boot.img - use search and read the stickies :banghead:

check out this thread and go to links provided in there for any more information you may want, this will help u root and install a custom recovery and then u can flash any custom rom u may want. however i would suggest that if u r happy with sense then dont flash a custom rom as they may not be as stable as the original roms from htc. but if u really do want to flash a rom then go ahead and dont forget to make a backup before u flash a custom rom or u may have to go through a lengthy procedure to get back to your original htc rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1850574

enter the bootloader , copy the boot.img from the rom.zip and paste it in the fastboot folder , enter the cmd while in fastboot usb use and type fastboot flash boot boot.img for the rom u have choosen

Thanks for reply people i solved the problem

1) Custom Recovery
Downloads for CWM Recovery
i gathered some of those links for all over the forum , thanks for the members who posted them
to manually install , here is recovery-clockwork-5.x ( to be installed from bootloader ) :
File Format is PG58IMG.zip , and you should use Method 2 for this file format
try this link http://vi8.info/HTC-Sensation/Non-Stock-Recovery/ ( use Method 2 )
PG58IMG_CWM.zip ( use Method 2 ) , rename it to PG58IMG.zip , latest non-touch version April 2012 link by EddyOS
CWM 5.0.2.0 http://www.axifile.com/en/EC384AC809 ( md5 is : 85b5f10c9afe33fb50396bd5f54bc7de ) , rename to PG58IMG.zip ( use Method 2 )
5.0.2.0 PG58IMG.zip is HERE ( use Method 2 )
there is a link in here ( Guide to S-Off, Unlocking, Root, etc ) for a 5.0.2 PG58IMG.zip , this zip is reported by lot of users not working with them ) , i guess super cid may solve that problem if it is a cid or mid problem
to manually install , here is recovery-clockwork-5.x.images ( to be installed from PC and device in fastboot , usb debugging enabled , fast boot UN-ticked in Setting \ power menu ) :
File format is { recovery name }.img , and you should use Method 1 for this file format
CWM v5.0.0.8 is always Proved working
CWM 5.0.2.0 ( use Method 1 )
CWM v 5.0.2.0 ( use Method 1 should work )
Downloads for4EXT Recovery
tip : 4EXT touch Recovery has more options , i recommend after S-Off to install CWM safer ( because Revolutionary install it after S-OFF , and i 'd rather go by the book for S-OFF procedure , much safer ) , then after install SU and Rom all finished and your Rom settles , then move to 4EXT later on
if you are Rooted " SU installed " , install 4EXT Recovery Updater or 4EXT Recovery Control and it will download and install 4EXT automatically for you
PG58IMG_4EXT.zip ( use Method 2 , April 2012 link by EddyOS )
or 4EXT recovery v1.0.0.5 ( use Method 1 )
or Go to 4EXT thread and there's a direct download for a version you can flash via fastboot ( use Method 1 )
or Download the user-friendly 4EXT Recovery touch flashing tool and read the guide inside ( link by joaquinf ).
Flash 4EXT Recovery using either Method 1 or Method 2 ( according to the Downloaded file format )
Alternative method for flashing 4EXT Recovery is to flash ARHD ICS Custom Rom , it will install 4EXT recovery during ARHD Rom installtion
Installation Problems
in case fastboot commands is not working :
uninstall htc sync then uninstall new htc drivers that comes with it , and install Old htc driver download link for HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe
uncheck fast boot under setting \ power or simply remove battery and put it back and boot to boot loader
start cmd as admin , disable firewall if needed , remove conflicting software or APK's
there is a new version of CWM 5.8 touch version , it has bugs now , so don't use it until those Bugs are fixed ( it also may prevent installing of ARHD ICS Rom or usb connection )
for PG58IMG.zip that give error , edit android-info.txt without extracting the zip file to include your cid and mid ( using Notepad++ or maybe notepad ) , and use ( Method 2 )
to edit android-info.txt , read this title " How to edit the android-info.txt File via Windows " in hereUser Friendly Firmware Upgrade
Installation Methods
if you install CWM recovery through revolutionary while S-off ( or connected to it later on ) , it will install an old version i think CWM 4.x . this old version will not charge device if it is powered off, So better immediately install CWM 5.x , ( Note that 30 min to 45 min with me to install )
if you are Rooted " SU Installed "
if you are Rooted " i.e SU installed " and in case of reinstalling or updating custom recovery , install Rom Manager ROM Manager APK from the Market ( free or Pro ) or 4EXT Recovery Updater or 4EXT Recovery Control and let it install latest Custom Recovery automatically
Method 1 :
if you are using Recovery.img ( i.e ???.img ) then from your PC using ADB tools download for WINDOWS or download for LINUX and the device should be in fastboot usb .
Put recovery.img from zip file inside ADB tools Folder ,
start cmd as administrator and navigate to ADB tools folder which includes fastboot.exe
execute fastboot flash recovery recovery.img , then after installation is finished execute fastboot reboot-bootloader
Method 2 :
the file name should be PG58IMG.zip , make sure of that ( not PG58IMG.zip.zip
if your are using a downloaded PG58IMG.zip ( i.e .zip ) ( it is not a file that you rename and compress by yourself !!!!! ) , then place it into SD card and install it from bootloader as usual update
if it gave you cid or mid error , then you can either super cid and use it
or if you don't want to do that you can modify the PG58IMG.zip , it has android-info.txt file inside it ( which determines on which mid and cid's devices it is allowed to be installed )
you can modify the android-info.txt to include your cid and mid , and it should work
don't extract the PG58IMG.zip , just open it in winrar and modify the android-info.txt file only ( add cid and mid ) using notepad++ ( drag it to desktop , modify then drag it inside winrar window again to replace the existing file and press ok )
Method 3 : you can also try Android Flasher or HTC 4G All-In-One Toolkit or [TOOL] HTC Sensation/XE/4G Super Utility (all in one) by kgs1992 if you like ( do it at your own risk , i didn't try it personally )
Method 4 : you can extract ????.img from the zip ( PG58IMG.zip ) and flash it as in Method 1
How to Boot into Custom Recovery From PC without installation
File format is { recovery name }.img
Download ADB tools download for WINDOWS
Put recovery img { recovery name }.img inside ADB folder in same place your fastboot.exe
{ recovery name }.img is the exact name for the downloaded recovery img that you put inside the ADB Folder
it is NOT PG58IMG.zip recovery
Start cmd as administrator and navigate to ADB Folder which includes fastboot.exe and type the command fastboot boot { recovery name }.img and press enter
your phone should now go to recovery screen ( loaded through fastboot )
2) Stock Recovery
You can use Android Recovery Manager to download and install your stock recovery
try also this link http://vi8.info/HTC-Sensation/Stock-Recovery/
or extract Stock recovery from your RUU.exe as follows
extract Rom.zip from RUU.exe as in this thread How To Debrand / Rebrand Your Sensation
open Rom.zip in and extract recovery
Usually Stock Recovery is flashed according to Method 1
or prepare it in a PG58IMG.zip and flash it ( if you know how to do it ) and flash it according to Method 2 , i didn't try this myself
3) Super User
Downloads
2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip
Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip
Superuser-3.0.7-efgh-signed.zip
ARHD Rootin tools ( Superuser and Busy box )
SuperSU market link
Installation
for Zip Patches , go to recovery , clear dalvik cache and cache , install from recovery as usual
for 2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip it would need to be flashed up to three times to flash successfully , if it didn't then for troubleshooting go to Post # 2 here Guide to S-Off, Unlocking, Root, etc
for SuperSU , go to SuperSU thread for how to
if you have problems for installation , try to install busy box from market
you can try this tool [TOOL] HTC Sensation/XE/4G Super Utility (all in one) by kgs1992

Zip file is corrupt , and it should be around 13 MB in size
HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe is the Drivers used by Revolutionary ( this is the one to be used always not the newer driver versions )
you can think of newer htc drivers as the newer htc software that is Patched to prevent certain commands or software execution
for example , lot of members had errors connecting to Revolutionary until they remove htc newer drivers and install the Old one HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe as i always advise of that to when using Revolutionary , i guess it would be the same in fastboot for full support of commands

Not corrupt, it is the "naked" driver package and only for Win7x64. Good points about the other driver, always best to have various options since one size does not fit all.

you can try to flash it , it should work without flashing Firmware
if your hboot is 1.27.0000 then this is the locked bootloader ( if in this case it shows unlocked for hboot 1.27.0000 , then you unlocked it with htc dev or super tool ) . this is not required with S-OFF devices , and if you done that then relock bootloader again and flash firmware 3.32 again ( better to start clean before flashing ICS again )

I'm trying to install Recovery.img through method 1. For some reason it keeps telling me that it's <waiting for device> (in CMD, all files in the correct place), thus it's not able to find it. I've tried to load it in bootloader, same problem. There is no way of updating a program through Bootloader for me, and if there is I have no idea how to do this (Method 2). Any suggestions?
Edit: Woops, forgot to unlock bootloader, I'll be back with the results

you will not be able to install custom recovery with you bootloader locked
you have to unlock bootloader before trying that , there is a method to unlock bootloader without losing warranty in the link i gave you in ARHD thread
if you unlocked your bootloader and have this error then :
it is better to use Method two from bootloader
uninstall htc sync then uninstall new htc drivers that comes with it , and install Old htc driver download link for HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe
uncheck fast boot under setting \ power or simply remove battery and put it back and boot to boot loader
start cmd as admin , disable firewall if needed , remove conflicting software or APK's
disable firewall
read title " Installation Problems "
i also posted in ARHD thread a second reply to you with a link in it , please read it
Just noticed it, sorry for taking your time . Used to work with my old HTC Touch HD, thought this would be easier to understand, guess not haha. I'll be unlocking the phone now.
EDIT: Unlocked and custom recovery installed.
EDIT2: Everything works, installing the latest ARHD, should go smoothly from now on! Thanks a lot for your help, tutorial and patience trkaa! Work from you guys is greatly appreciated!
Hmm... After I unlock my bootloader I should install the recovery, correct?
How can I boot my phone into fastboot?
What commands do I use to install the recovery via fastboot?
I'd like to backup my current rom without Root, do I need to root first to install the recovery?
Can't Install any recovery
hi people sorry if this question has already asked..

[Q] Looking for HTC Stock recovery

Hello,
Does anyone have a HTC Stock recovery for Asia TW 1.52.709.3, because during the OTA updete the phone is stuck on the HTC icon and cannot start (just rebooting). A read that there is a possibility that there was a problem with the recovery and I want to revert to the old version. Please help, because I want my phone back and don't know what to do.
P.S. The bootloader is updated now to 1.27
Well I am not sure if the recovery that was with the gingerbread stock ROM is any different from the stock recovery that is with ICS. But here is a download link for the stock recovery.img that was with the stock gingerbread ROM that was on my device. You will have to flash this via fastboot.
Please do as the below post says as I just noe realized the link I posted is not the stock recovery bit 4EXT recovery so I am taking the link down. Sorry guys I will post a new link when I get a chance to upload a stock recovery image.

you will find it here as ruu..
http://www.filefactory.com/f/c87a2330449af512/
after downloading do that ..,,,,,...
it's better if u r s-off and super CID read here
you may lose warranty00
Its. Alittel long but u should fallow
1 open the ruu on pc wait until it boots u and show u the next button >>go to ur my computer >>c>> users>> ur pc name user >> temp >> see the file with a long charecter created before mins ago inter >>another folder inside >>inter u gonna see adb sord stuff >>> look for rom.zip ... Once u found it ......
2nd change the name to pg58IMG.
Put it in ur sd card root reboot to boot loader and flash it
I supposed u did super wipe before flashing stock rom
it will take 10 mins to complete then viola. .. u r stocked again
If u didn't found the rom.zip just search for it in c. It must be same size of ruu.exe it's the best way to back to stock I've done it 20 times before good luck ; )
i did the same post for someone in general thread too ...

[GUIDE][NOOB PROOF]How to Flash Custom Roms with S-ON

Hello everyone! in this guide i'll show you how to flash custom roms which requires s-off when your device is not.
For example for the people who have unlocked the sensation through HTCdev.com, don't have s-off and want to flash custom roms :good:
ok so you will need at least:
Unlocked Bootloader
Rooted Device
PC with Android SDK Installed (ADB, Fastboot)
Custom Rom (to be installed)
Ok you if you have these things you're half way to flash a custom rom, Now what s-off devices can do is to flash the rom's boot.img
So this is really simple, we need to flash ourselves the boot.img, which our s-on devices can't do by itself
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Step 1.
First you need to extract the rom.zip and inside of it you'll find a folder named Kernel (most of the rom's boot.img are in that folder, if it is not there find it out in the other folders)
Step 2.
Now that you have your boot.img you need to copy that file into your Android-sdk/tools folder
Step 3.
Next we need to flash that file onto our Sensation so reboot your device in fastboot mode, open the cmd and type:
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
at this point the cmd will proceed to flash the boot.img file and when it's done type:
Code:
fastboot reboot recovery
Step 4.
Ok, now that we have flashed the most important file we need simply to flash the rom through recovery
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Reboot and it's done you have flashed the rom correctly :good::victory:
NOTE: YOU NEED TO FLASH THE BOOT.IMG FILE EVERY TIME YOU WANT TO FLASH A CUSTOM ROM, IF YOU DON'T YOUR DEVICE WON'T BOOT
sorry to butt in but ..this was already covered here

Thanks for the effort but as ganeshp already pointed out this has been covered in great detail already in the guide he linked. Also I do not see how this is easier, for one this method is covered in the guide, and two how can it be easier than enabling smart flash in 4EXT Recovery. When you do this you do not even have to connect your device to a computer via USB to flash the boot.img, it is all done on the device itself. No extracting the boot.img, which is not in a folder named kernel normally, only with Aroma do you have that. As I said thanks for your effort, your heart is in the right place, but this was just not needed.

yeah, maybe it is not easier than the other method but i did it cause my friend wasn't able to star the 4ext application and he couldn't flash the recovery properly, even in fastboot. So i decided to make this guide to help people who have such problems, more guides/different methods = more possibility to have success

Installing another Kernel (Zip not .img) on a S-ON device

I can't find any guides about how to install a different (but compatible) kernel, zipped, on a S-ON device. I know I need the kernel to be in .img form and not .zip. Can anyone lead me to a guide, or give me some advices on how do I actually do it?
So you want .zip or .img?
At title it says ''Zip not .img'' And later it says ''to be in .img form and not .zip''
Anyways, with the .img one; you need to find a correct boot.img, then follow this;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631861
Scroll down, find the ''Extra 1: Flashing "boot.img"''
If this is what you're looking for..
Someone smarter should correct me if I was wrong.
each kernel in development section comes with zip format
There's a mess in my head right now and I can't explain exactly what I want. I apologize.
I have a S-ON HTC Sensation, that means when I want to install a new rom I need to enter bootloader and fastboot the boot.img. Then enter Recovery and flash the rom in zip form.
What if I want to install a new Kernel (a compatible one, as i said) but which is in zip form as the rom. How do I get the boot.img out of it so I can flash the zip afterwards? Because I understand that zipping it normally without any boot.img might get me some errors.

i think i know what are you talking about
do you have 4ext recovery installed?
if not then install 4ext and before flashing any rom or even a kernel enable smartflash from it
you just avoid the step for flashing the boot.img manually
with smartflash feature you don't need to flash any boot.img

http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-l/orig-development/cwm-recovery-installer-t2589320
The above thread is for locked bootloaders only and you really can't install kitkat on a locked bootloader.
After unlocking your bootloader, you should download any kitkat rom and flash the kernel inside it.
Here are the steps :
1. Open the zip file you download. (The zip that contains the rom).
2. Copy the boot.img to the root folder of your adb installed directory. Like if your adb is at C:\adb then it should look like C:\adb\boot.img.
3.Power off your phone, press and hold the volume up key and connect the usb. A blue led should glow on your phone.
4.Right click on the empty space in the adb folder while holding down shift key. Then select 'Open command prompt here'.
5. You must have adb drivers installed properly. Now in the command prompt window, type fastboot flash boot boot.img.
6.If everything done as told, you will have a new kernel with recovery.
7.Now power on the phone and press volume down repeatedly when led glows.
You will enter recovery. Now you can flash zips.

My friend I read the post too and not just the title. Nowhere it is mentioned that he ONLY wants to root or install CWM. He wants to try kitkat and did ask for step by step procedure. Please read the full post again if you want. I agree he's a noob thus asking how to start.

Yeah I want to try KitKat on my phone. But confused at this point. Right now I have unlocked bootloader so now should I install CWM recovery or just directly flash Kitkat ROM ? and I want to backup my Original firmware 4.2.2 also.

Bro I asked what should I do after unlocking bootloader. Whether should I install cwm recovery first or should I directly upgrade to kitkat.

In order to backup your stock JB 4.2.2,you'll need a recovery 1st and its come with JB's kernel..after that then you can go with kitkat by flashing boot.img inside kitkat roms via fastboot with flashtool..
You can see the method in mostly kitkat rom 1st page..

How could you upgrade to kikat without flashing???
In order to flash you need recovery. I don't think the stock recovery allows flashing zips.
First root your device BEFORE unlocking your bootloader.
Then backup your TA Partition using DevShaft's tool.
After that unlock your bootloader. and flash any JB kernel. I would recommend Phantom v7. Then reboot your phone and enter recovery.
Backup your current rom
I hope you got the answer. In order to flash a rom (Kitkat in your case) you need recovery. And that is why you need to flash a custom kernel. Remember there's a difference b/w kernel and rom.

Oh now I got it. These guys were confusing me. You made it clear. Thanks
Okay guys, I have unlocked bootloader and I have flashed Civic Kernel (Phantom Kernel and Thunder was not working for me I don't know why). So how should I backup my stock rom and how to flash custom rom I know how to go into cwm recovery.
There must be an option to backup.. Unfortunately I haven't used civic kernel so can't tell which recovery is it. Look for some option which says backup, or nandroid backup etc.
And if possible post screenshot.(or photo)
Okay I have backup the old one and now I am at Resurrections ROM. And it works perfect.
