I tried to download that 6 MB update and it fails about halfway while trying to install it. Could it be doing that since I had to flash to stock? And do you think that I will be able to update to JB when it is released?

Did you freeze or uninstall any bloat?
Sent from my JB'd X2
If you intend to use ota updates you should probably never uninstall bloat upon rooting. Here's hoping you only froze it. I learned this the hard way back on my Droid x. Stopped gingerbread from installing when VZW finally pushed it and I was pretty new to doing anything beyond getting root.

So what happens if u un installed or froze bloat? What options do we have to recover this?
Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using xda app-developers app
If you froze a simple unfreeze should be fine. If you deleted it sounds like you'll need to use RSD Lite to go back to the stock firmware before taking the update.

I froze bloatware.

Then unfreeze it and try the update again.

Whats up guys? Last night i was messing around with cheesecake. I was changing the servers around and suddenly I got a "optional system update available" message. It stated that it was 6.16.209.en.us and it was around 354mb. I was apprehensive to d/l it. Wish I did because now I cant seem to find it. Just had to go back to stock .173 then back to .181 just to fix the update check. Has anyone tried this version of ICS?

Yea its a app that checks other Motorola servers from what I understand. You need to have root. HOWEVER, do not use unless you made a backup. Once it changes where the device looks for the OTA it cannot be undone. I switched to the QA 1 server and it popped up that an optional update is available for download ( 6.16.209.en.us. ). I was apprehensive on downloading it. I continued to mess around with the servers and noticed another update on the "dev1" server. 6.16.208.en.us. i got paranoid and freaked out that i couldnt get it back to check the regular server so i did a factory wipe and still couldnt!! So i had to d/l the razr utility tool to flash back to .173 then OTA to .181.

Any updates on this? I'm curious about this, can't be official though?
It looked official from what im reading. It stated that the build was made on may 18. I think the exact phrase was that i would be going from M3-8 to M5-18 i think thats referring to may 18th. I could try it again. But just thought i would see if anyone had any luck with it before i do it. I'll post updates.

Just talked to my buddy Jeff who is on the development side of motorola and this is supposedly going to be the OTA in the next 3 weeks.

Sweet! Only on verizon though?
From what i understand. My friend got the OTA with her Galaxy Nexus like a week ago. The razr still has yet to receive the ota. My maxx got the ota today thanks to cheescake. 6.16.210.en.us baby!

Use ted Ochsen .apk?

Or is it Theodore Ochsen? He's a developer for Motorola and has a few apps out. Supposedly he developed the cheesecake app.

It's just a security update from Verizon, not a big deal. If you're rooted it will break root, but just re-run the OCR and you're good to go.
Yea just root after the update. Save yourself possible headaches.
Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using xda app-developers app
I would. I couldn't use Smart Actions to acquire a location until AFTER the update.
Updated to 0.7.2 with no issues
I just updated to 0.7.2 OTA from Verizon and it didn't break my root. All the rooted apps still work as they did.
Without rootkeeper?

Im getting my maxx hd in two days and noticed some ways to root on ics. If i get my maxx and its preloaded with jb can i still use matts utility to fastboot back to ics and get root then use rootkeeper?
Thanks!

It will probably come pre-loaded with ICS but if for some reason it comes with JB then yes you can restore back to ICS and root. Enjoy

I just got my good old RAZR Maxx HD after a repair and they already upgraded it to jb 4.1.1 (when I shipped, he had ICS). Is it possible to go back to ICS now? Anyone has done it? Thanks in advance.

Yes sir it is! Just Google matts utility and download that. Make sure to backup all your data before you restore your phone back to ICS. Enjoy!

Thanks man... but other people say it's impossible to downgrade to ICS once u had stock jb. How can I do it without bricking my spanking new Droid?

Other people don't know what they are talking about haha. I have been restored back to ICS multiple times. Use Matt's utility and I am sure you will not have any problems whatsoever.

My dad's Droid 2 has the contacts app completely broken. He is rooted, and we've uninstalled recently a lot of "authenticators" (Facebook Authenticator for example). Could that have anything to do with it? Anytime the app is utilized at all, it crashes immediately. Whether from the contacts app itself or from dialer, the app just freezes. Is there a way for me to download someone else's contacts app so I can replace it, out just fix it?
Thanks

Many motorola apps are interdependent, remove one brake another.
Which system version 4.5.629?
I could upload a copy of contacts, but I don't have any idea any idea which apps you need.
Don't delete stock apps rename or freeze with titanium backup
I suggest reflashing firmware, I will post link to files if you post current system version.
Sent from my XT894 using Tapatalk
He has a Droid 2 global system version 4.5.629.A956 Android version 2.3.4. Is that everything you needed to know? He's thinking of just reflashing everything but I'd like to get things working.

try D2G_629_SBF-and-RootCD_2013.iso
it will reflash original 629 firmware

Currently i am rooted on 4.1.2 and I want to update to the current version. If i update to the current version is there a root method? Also is this the only version that i can unlock the bootloader at?

Which system version are you on? Please don't say 4.1.2. Your system version will tell us if you can unlock.
I am on 9.16.6.xt926
After i unlock(if i do), would the best plan be to reset and update then root or reset, root then update?

if you removed anything from stock, you will have to use one of the utilities to flash it back to stock first. a reset wont make it start updating again or replace any stock apps you may have removed.
so, you will likely have to root afterwards, as the tool re-writes everything.
