Always "awake" - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I have an issue with my gs3 staying "awake" after rooting and flashing a new kernel and the "kindacrap mods".
I'm on the G1 build with lean kernel 1.3, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check to see what governor is being used. Switch to ondemand if it isnt set to this already.

It's set to the on demand governor, I forgot to say that I always have the "pimp my Rom" mods installed

I'm having the same problem with Scott's Stock Rooted VRALHE & his individual mods that I installed which include the 15 toggle, the 3 button power mod, no power up sounds & stock samsung animation.
I'm going to reflash the VRALHE again tonight without the mods and I'll report back.

I tried reverting back to a nandroid backup I had before I loaded the mods and still had the issue. I tried researching it before posting and someone had the same issue until they reformatted their memory card so I tried it but still no dice.

Take a look at this thread, it worked perfectly for me. As I understand it, it contains a firmware update for the radios and other things that was part of the OTA, but not the part that the flashes are built on.
Anyway I had the same problem and my HE is now sleeping like a baby.

Just flashed this and there are a few differences between this and EP4. I never had the static radio issues so this didn't affect me. The new lockscreen is interesting, kind of like honeycomb but you can touch anywhere on the screen to start the "circle." It replaces both of the other ones, leaving no options in display settings. Interesting, but I still prefer the GB or ICS one over this.
No changes have been made to the theme, it is still poop and pumpkin with some green on the toggles.
Also, the touchwiz interface is MUCH faster than I remember, giving me almost no lag even with all the bloatware. Maybe it's because I'm still running ext4/PBJT, but it shouldn't make that big of a difference.
I have found no traces of that backdoor technical support system yet. Idle RAM usage is surprisingly low at around 270MB on boot (with nothing cached yet).
Other than that there are no noticeable changes. I cannot comment on the lag on a fully stock device. It is about as smooth as Eclipse with ext4/PBJT though, so I think there is an improvement. I would say that overall it is the lamest update since I bought my charge unless you had the audio issue, and I proceeded to flash Eclipse back within 20 minutes.
EDIT: Guess I didn't remember how clean Eclipse was after all. Wow on boot Ram usage is at 203MB nice
Did you have problems connecting to wifi? Idk what went wrong I did a factory reset and flashed.

Possibly do it being the old kernel you're running breaking wifi with the new build

Sorry I forgot to test it. But like motcher said it might be the kernel. I don't know how much they changed wifi (whether it is in just the icon or in the kernel) and I am not reverting to full stock for just testing lol
If you are having wifi issues it is most likely due to the fact you are not running the full FP1 OTA. If you have flashed a custom kernel you will no longer have wifi.
Dwitherel posted the fp1 patch yesterday. I flashed on clockwork recovery(wipe data/cache) everything works. 4g is a lot more stable. I run tweakstock, but I guess it might work for eclipse since its just radios. Wifi works perfct too

If you want to use an EP4 kernel with FP1, take the file /system/modules/bcm4329.ko from an EP4 ROM, and put it on your FP1 ROM in the same location, over-writing what is already there.
So was the wifi driver updated? What was changed?
Can we just get a flashable .zip for the updated kernel?

The kernel was updated. Flash the OTA ROM and you'll see it has a new version, and based on what Samsung did with the versioning on the phone, FP1 and EP4 kernels and modules aren't cross compatible.

You need system mounted as R/W to do this, and you likely also have to reboot to get it to work. If that doesn't work, something else is screwed up then.

How to downgrade from Fp1? Need help...

Hello I'm new to this hand set, I've been helping a friend with it. He loves it and I was happy to show him the other side of android. But I'm use to HTC phones so this is a hole new ball park I used odin to root and to flash tweaked 2.0. He is on FP1 and he would like to try overclock and WiFi on his phone if someone can please point me in the right direction or explain how to go back a update to EP4 or somethin. To try other roms that would be great. Thank you all in advance for all the help.

I wouldn't flash back to ep4 if I were you... fp1 radios take a **** all over ep4. I suggest tweaked 2.1, best ROM for this phone... hands down... but, to get back to ep4, use Odin... download the. Pit file and the all one one ep4 stock image found http://www.imnuts.org/odin-packages/ ... there are also instructions.. good luck!!

There's no reason to downgrade to EP4...all the updated ROM's are based on FP1, and the PBJ kernel is updated to FP1. I don't understand the reasoning behind downgrading.
Stock FP1 is seriously better. I'd never go back ...
Ok. I understand the FP1 better then the others but will the custom kernel let him overclock and WiFi? Sorry guys I'm a noob with this phone I feel like a retart asking? And popped another error for mismatched md5 how would I fix this. Sorry I'm a noob and not very proud of it. Thanks again.

Make sure you have the battery in when you flash in Odin.
If you've taken the OTA to the FP1 version, then you already have the latest modems and don't an update for them. If not, we don't have a complete image of the FP1 modems. The easiest way to get them is to flash to stock EP4 and take the OTA. Failing that, there is a CWM compatible update that will flash you from EP4 to FP1 modems. I don't have the link handy, but I can try to dig it up for you if need it.
I did do the ota to fp1. To put it in download mode I power off pull battery connect to the data cable while holding down, wait for the download screen to appear then insert battery back in. I opened pda and found tweaked 2.1 with pbj kernel I click on it and it tried to start but then popped error on md5 mismatch.

I got to say thank you all for your help. I got in tweaks 2.1 I did the overclock. But I need to know what are the best setting for the overclock and witch app should I use?. Thank you all for all your help my friend is more in love with his phone then he was before.

Voltage Control is a free overclocking/undervolting app that works quite well with the PBJ kernel. I find running the smartassV2 governor makes the biggest difference in performance for me. Overclocking makes a small improvement in performance, and undervolting makes a small improvement in battery life. Some safe starting values to try for undervolting are 100/-100, 200/-100, 400/-75, 800/-50, 1000/-50, 1200/-25. Most processors can go lower voltages than that, but that's a good start.

Well s voice probably requires some of the sgs3 framework so it wouldn't work here. Also it is built on ics so it probably wouldn't work on gb. Finally to install a system app you can't use package installer. You just place the apk in /system/app.

Battery life will never be something someone can tell you is "good" as it all varies by individual, phone, kernel, running processes, apps, etc.
I don't really know now to answer your question. It's all opinion which is "better".
That's what nandroids are for. Flash both and see which one works for you.

I have tried ever ROM out there except CleanROM which I haven't gotten to yet (I was out of the country for the last week & didn't want to take a chance on breaking my phone)
I keep returning every single time to my current totally debloated root66 ROM setup. With that setup, there are no bugs or issues at all, the battery life is just as good as any other ROM & it's fast as hell.

Backup FIRST, then you can wipe and install a new ROM. Then back that ROM up, wipe, install new ROM, repeat.
There are stickies around here that will help.

They both good roms but "Clean rom" and "Clean kernel" are the most stable with excellent performance/battery and the most bug free rom (very close to stock and very clean). Also Clean kernel comes with OC and UV.

On synergy I had a lot of FC errors and my wifi would randomly drop. I haven't read anything of others having that issue on the forums but each new release I would flash that. I guess I was just more used to Beans, although I loved the amount of customization and theme options of synergy. Also the fast charge option that came with the kernel built into build 9 of beans was a big plus.
I'll promote synergy
Started off with earlier versions of bean
Loved the 50gb Dropbox but have found synergy to be phenomenal
Plus they've added a feature where they back up your imei when flashing the rom, jury's still out on whether it's 100 percent effective in restoring imei without the roaming problem

Well, maybe she's burned out from flashing,
If it was my phone, I'd flash completely back to stock. Make sure you use correct nandroid for your baseband. That brings another question, are you 21e or 21y? 21y fixed alot of issues with battery etc.
Anyways, go completely stock, than start fresh with nvflash recovery. I'd flash CWM 5.0.2.8. DONT use touch recovery.
Than start flashing your setup. Make sure you wipe everything with recovery. Wipe system for sure.
Choose one kernel, flash it as well. Than see how she runs.

HTC always do something different from everyone else including the reference design from Qualcomm.... Sometimes they OVER engineered...
