[Q] Phone got up to 48 °C while charging, and other battery issues - Motorola Atrix 2

Kinda worried this will happen again. It has never happened before. Looking at my charging stats, it was on full charge for about 5 hours. It was charging abnormally hot, like at 38 to 40.
Should I be worried? Is there a fix?
Also, I would like to mention that after flashing back to stock and OTA-ing to 4.0.4, my battery life has been piss poor, doing the same stuff as I did before. It barely holds its charge throughout the day, even if I did half as much before I reverted to stock. Is this normal, or should I run a battery calibration tool?
Thanks!

Take a look at the battery guide I wrote up in the stickies from the General Section, the third post has a charging trick also that might help if you're getting battery reporting errors. Have you wiped battery stats after flashing? Also, I'm on the 1st leak ICS (or was, now on CM10), and my battery life is great...

It definitely looks miscalibrated, after looking at your post. I didn't wipe my battery profile after flashing, so that's probably the reason.
I don't have CWM, but the battery calibration app seems like it wipes the file, as long as their Market description is accurate. (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nema.batterycalibration)
Should this still work?

Yes, a battery calibration app from Google Play will work just fine for wiping battery stats...

Okay...?
The majority of the people here have rooted.
It won't help. I have deleted the batterystats on mine phone more than 20 times in the last 3 days and there is no change nor hope!
Let me rephrase by saying your ROOTED phones battery stats might be lying to you.
And for the guy who tried it three times and failed. I don't think you took the time for fully discharging the phone. That's right I'm calling BS.
Anyway got to go my battery just dropped 30%
Just wanted to let you guys know that this is completely true in my case. The other night around 2am I went to sleep with the battery around 68%. When I woke up 4hours later for work my phone was turned off. I then plugged it in and my battery was at 0%.
I was on the perfect storm Rom. I then switched to das bamf. Still happens. Tried bump charging and 0-100 charging and its helped but when I reboot the phone the battery shows about 7% less then where it was.

I think that is thy the stock battery icons don't show an exact %, b/c they haven't been able to make it work right. Don't worry though i believe that the devs will get it before HTC.
Ok my battery was just now at 50%. I restarted and now showing 41%. I don't know what's going on.

As I said, you can charge and discharge all day long, it won't help!
Thank you for reposting this. So sick and tired of people complaining about dropping 10% in a few minutes after a full charge.

I think this is a glitch. It drops like crazy after restart but then stays there until it "catches up" I guess.

So far,I have only rooted my phone, not a custom rom. I either have a crappy battery life, which seems better when I shut 4g down, or there is a glitch on the metering. My .02 worth.

[A]Overheat and Battery drain problem fixed (for me)

Hi everybody, it's been a while i'm trying to fix that problem.
My Sensation XE was overheating 'til 40 degreas sometimes (everytime).
I think it's not a problem with the kernel, or the rom, or anything else in the firmware... I follow some xda fans advices and bought a Saner 1900mah battery, and it simply fixed the problem, my phone never pass over 25,6 degreas it's the maximum i saw. That's for the overheating problem.
For the battery drain problem, my phone is running on the battery since 1 day and 3h 27m'' and i still have 36% of battery Oo. I up a screenshot

So i hope that topic will help, it was just 10 dollars for the battery... no too much..
Peace
I wanna get a extended batterie but do you need another backdoor for the battery ?? And also when you got it what did you do ? Like what steps youve been through?
Put battery
Let it drain to 0%
Then charge back to 100%?

Are you sure the battery temp actually works?
Does it just stay around 25 deg?
Nop no need a new backcover at all...
And yep never get over 25 degreas.

Does the ROM affect battery life as well? What ROM are you using?
And yes when i recieve the saner battery i used ut immediatly and wait to 0% then charge it all night long. You must do it to calibrate the battery.
Im using Ordroid 3.0.2 sense 4 but i dont think it affect à lot on the battery life... Im pretty sure its not... Just a bit.. à tiny bit.

Hi,
You should use your battery for 3 or 4 cycles (charge/discharge) before judging it.
Yes above post is correct. Please cycle 3-5 times before judge. I just received a. New mugen 3500mah battery
It's recommended to cycle 4-5 times before it reaches full capacity. I'm on first cycle. So far a hour of use still at 100%.but it won't be to full capacities until its cycled at least 4 times.also I read not to drain to zero percent before next cycle. Hope this helps out.also you can get a long lasting battery if issues still persist. Personally I finally broke down and got a mugen 3500 mah for my device. The back cover is pretty ugly but so far first cycle battery is amazing! That's what matters to me anyway. Phone may look a bit pregnant but great battery life is the trade off . So far its worth every penny. I was tired of having battery issues. If you do decide to purchase one. Purchase from mugen site. Also follow instructions before use device must be charged 12 hours even if showing 100% also instructions recommend never discharging to zero before next cycle of 12 hours . I hope this helps.

So I get terrible battery life on GB, ICS, an JB compared to my Nexus One.
Tried almost every ROM + Kernel combo now and no use.
Turned off every battery draining thing (Data, Wifi, Bluetooth, NFC, GPS, No widgets, No fancy wallpaper) and yet my battery goes down like 20% just being in my pocket for an hour to two hours.
In that same time I would lose at most 10% on my Nexus One.
Could it be that I have a bad radio? Do you guys who seem to get awesome battery life have a newer radio than I do?
Have you turned off the google auto-sync? You can do so from the power widget.

Yep. I have everything related to sync off and I also have backup data off as well.
Is 9% battery loss in 45 minutes okay with all those things off and it just being in my pocket?
:/

You need to use better battery stats to figure out what is draining your battery. You can find it here.

Battery life
I have got a pretty good battery life with the XenonHD ROM... :good:

Maybe your battery is physically dying.

Yes, there are many things that can adversely affect battery life, and radios are on of them. You can try to flash a compatible radio, but make sure you have a backup. Also, all radios eat battery when they're in bad signal (the phone uses a lot more power amplifying the signal).
BUT
Battery drain can be caused by many things. So while it wouldn't hurt to flash a new radio, you should still monitor the drain with betterbatterystats

Assuming the OP didn't switch on '2G only' in the settings I'd be inclined to suggest that flaky 3G signal is the cause of his battery drain. I'm on the newest radio (XXKI1) and whenever I'm in an area with poor 3G coverage (the inside of my house, for example) I often fall prey to horrible wakelocks. Switching to 2G only (plus WiFi for data) solves the issue.

[Q] Abnormal (?) battery life

I'm using Cyanogenmod 11 M5 on a D820 32GB. Lately I've noticed that idle battery life is not as it should be; I got frustrated enough last night that I wiped everything and left it sitting. Battery started at 82% and dropped to 63% with about 15min of SOT::

This doesn't feel right; as I recall from when the phone was new (and as I have seen others talking about), standby time is supposed to be great. Is this normal?
I'm flashing stock right now; I'll see if that helps.

Show us some BBS logs. Most likely CM issue though. More precisely, the CM kernel. But without BBS, it's just speculation.

Okay. I'll try this with stock Android and see what happens. If it's not better, I'll post BBS logs for it too.
I also think it's CM's fault, and if this happens with stock as well, you may have a faulty battery.
I usually get 1 hour SOT/20%, give or take 10 minutes.
I can get this with my usage patterns, obviously this is going to change (for better or worse) depending on how you use and configure your phone.

Awesome as in how long?
At any rate, after totally paving my device the drain seems to be better on M5. Not sure what the issue is/was.
