Ive seen a few post for wireless charging mods on the galaxy note, S2, S3 and was wondering if it was possible on the Sensation.
Im guessing i cant just solder in an induction coil, so is there a piece of software that i need for it to run? I know that the HTC Rezound has the capability so perhaps if some software is needed it can be taken from that. Any advice or ideas?
I think this has more to do with hardware than software. Either the phone has a specific coil for the magnetic charge, or the battery itself. Without at least on of these, wireless charging is improbable. Perhaps some kernel mod is required for the phone part (not sure its a must if its in the battery itself), but I can't see a manufacture going through the trouble of adding that piece of hardware without including that extra kernel mod.
So I guess that's not supported in our beloved sensation.

Sensation does not have an induction loop for wireless charging.

His research is no longer available to the public because (depending on who you believe)
A) It leveled a large swatch of Siberia and was deemed too dangerous
B) Energy companies thought it would cause them to go out of business
C) It didn't work
Back to the Sensation though....and in all seriousness...one guy got it working.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1283200
It takes hardware modifications to the device to make it happen though.
I think you missed my point, you can buy the hardware( a palm pre touchstone and case) and i follow this hack you can fit it to a galaxy note.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1951493
What i was wondering is if something similar would be possible for the sensation.

Dangit, you were to fast for me, and yes you are correct. ('The amount of intelligent people here is too damn high')
I have seen that you can get things like this, its usually a small box with an induction coil that plugs into the phones charger port and a magnetic matt that you put the phone on or near to charge it. Ive not seen one for the sensation but anything that provides 500mA - 1000mA with the correct micro USB attachment should work..
hopefully it wont wipe the SD card

I don't think they were made for Desire.
I've been reading about these two cradles and they are originally for Nexus one. Nevertheless, they do fit for Desire without problem.
They put a video on youtube showing the HTC Desire cradle. I think it's real product for HTC Desire.

yes but where can you purchase - is this website trying to sell them? If so they are not doing a very good job!
You can buy them ate mobilefun.

Thanks for posting this: Just to help, here's the picture from site, plus a screen I grabbed and enlarged from youtube video to try to show the USB connector. But the video below shows it connecting solidly, so it would be hard to believe it is not the correct microUSB connector.

*EDIT: I just noticed a slight discrepancy between the youtube demo and the "for sale" pictured item.
In the first picture, you see the front edge of the cradle protrudes a little bit differently than what we see in the video-still. The video-still shows a fully open, smooth edge, without the protrusion. I am not familiar with the Nexus One, but since someone said these are adapted from what was being sold for the Nexus One, which picture is correct? The picture on the left suggests more stabilization and snugger fit preventing phone tip-over... so was it designed for the Desire's button's? I don't know. Someone here would know the differences between the N1 exactly
.
Well it looks like the original picture posted above is the incorrect one, a prototype, and that the video is correct --- because it more closely matches the images seen on the actual order pages for buying the product. However, there is still a difference:
The 2 above photos show a silver trim to the unit; the photo below has no trim. (personally, I would prefer the black-only because I am always a bit skeptical of inexpensive plastic products with silver trim. In my experience, the silver almost always cracks off or scratches off very quickly, and then looks even cheaper...)

should be Yes, from the google.com/phone technical specifications, it says "[10] Micro USB port"
so yes, newer android phones are equipped with micro usb ports, because they made it a standard..
correct me if i am wrong..i remember i saw it somewhere..
Right, MicroUSB becomes European standard in 2010.

I recieved one of these, its not flush at all mate, the unit wobbles like crazy in that dock, sent it back. AVOID.
I bought one and it is really only suitable for charging, would not use the phone while docked.
Plus Desire charges at a full rate only when using the attached USB cable and not through the mini USB socket. I have modded mine by replacing one wrong component inside and adding a dummy plug with data pins shorted to the attached USB cable so it charges fine using the mini USB too now.
I got one of these:
Item 199195 at expansys (can't post links on here yet)
Not too bad for the price. Phone fits in it well and charges/syncs fine.
Can anyone recommend a decent external charger for the Desire HD battery? Thinking of getting a spare battery but want a way of charging outside the phone.
Cheers.

Yeah, you can usually find these things on eBay for pennies. Maybe in a week or two...
I have one of these that I occasionally use for my G1. It isnt amazing and charges very slowly, but with a high quality battery it should help a little on the go!

Ok I'm in as well
i found this one
ebay Item number: 120640014972 (new users aka me cannot post external links )
which is a battery powered portable charger rated at 5000maH and charges the battery in the phone.
that battery cover worries me so i dont want to have to open it too often. also it means you dont have to wait for the device to reboot. not sure how accurate that 5000mah is, but i should be able to fit that and my phone in my pocket for a couple of hours to charge.
not ideal, but i dont trust non-brand batteries, especially if im importing them from china since i have no legal comeback if it explodes in my phone because they are not a UK company.
This is the link -

It does look really good actually. I like that you can charge two devices at one too. Anyone have any experience of these? I think I'll order one...
Mobilefun do one for around £20 that docks the phone and has a slot for a spare battery to charge aswell. Not in stock last I looked, but ill be buying one of those.

Alright folks, don't know if this has been discussed before, and frankly I can't browse through threads atm looking for it, so here it is. It's a a power case for your Desire HD/Inspire 4G with an extended 1500mAh battery to make your life easier.
I've tested it some time ago but never got the chance to actually post anything about it because I just don't get enough time. The case is very rigid and provides the ultimate protection for your device. The only downside is the fact it is enormous.

The price varies between $40 and $47 so if you think this can help save your phone, go ahead and buy yourself one.
You can grab it on amazon,
http://www.amazon.com/PowerSkin-Pro..._1_8?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1330464202&sr=1-8
Be fast they only have like 4 or 5 left in stock.
Of course if ya think this post is useful, hit thanx. Won't kill ya.
PS: I am in no way affiliated with the company that is making this so if ya think I'm making money here, I'm not.
read the reviews on amazon... it sucks...
As panyan says... it sucks... I tested it for a week and then it went back to amazon...
The Quality is quite good, but it makes the DHD really fat... but i knew it before i purchased it and this wasnt the real problem...
This this batterie was supposed to last as long as the internal batterie does, but for 50euros (in germany) you get a silikoncase which makes your phone thicker and a really bad batterie that lasts for 7 hours... in IDLE!!
My DHD "survives" sometimes up to 2 Days (When its IDLE most the time), so a battery that used to have more capacity then the internal one lasts only 7 hours?
FAIL!!!
I loaded it more than one time to full capacity and tested it the whole week...
I cannot recommend that powerskin.
mfg cre-x
PS: sry for my bad english XD
It's an interesting idea, but it woud add a lot of weight and bulk to the phone, which you would only need let's say for the second 1/2 of the day
So would you want to carry that around with you all day?
The alternative, which I use, is to have a battery pack (mine's a 5000mAh) which I plug into the charging socket of the phone via USB-microUSB cable when I run low.
The battery pack has the same dimensions and weight as the phone, but I keep it in a bag until needed, so it doesn't affect the phone's bulk until I decide to charge.
And they are cheap too, I got mine off Amazon for €22 I think it was. NewTrent is the brand, I can recommend it. The price fluctuates quite a lot. There are also some cheaper alternatives, but I wouldn't bother with a 2000mAh pack, since it wouldn't pack much of a punch. Also the NewTrent one has 2 output sockets and can provide a 1A output, giving a fast charge.
And you can keep your favourite case too, no worries about GPS signal either
powerskins are for people who can only get to charge their phone every other day or use the phone very intensly.
In most cases it's a waste of money.
I used it 3 months and now it no works.
PS: This Case is really big!
I have it, it's awesome. The thickness isn't important to me, i have big pockets. But it was 80$ here in my country.
phone companies are on the verge of these 'inductive charging' techniques by just attaching the tech to the battery without sacrificing any of the physical size of it all, so who knows maybe at the end of the year it'll become standard in phones without the need of having accessories like these
WOW! The Phone becomes very thick with this thing. That's absolutely not cool. In which pocket shall it fit? Just rendered and no real pictures you can see nothing about the quality of these thing. I think a spare accu is much better than this Power Skin.

Actually, they are VERY different phones, hence X Roms not being compatible with XL phones and vice versa. Anyways, as for battery life, it can be remedied with propper adjustments (kernel, voltages, etc...). But if you still need a battery case, I would recomment the Seidio one: http://www.seidioonline.com/att-htc-one-x-lte-innocell-plus-case-p/bd3-pbyhtnxl-bk.htm
Not only is it guaranteed to work on the XL, but it's also from a good, known battery brand (I used to have Seidio batteries for my Evo 4G). Sure it's a bit more expensive, but it's also reliable! Hope this helps!

Are you saying that this battery case may supply an incorrect voltage or something and won't charge the phone correctly? I'm trying to work out a legit reason why this case would, apparently, be incompatible.
Also like I said, I need an Australian seller so I can get it fast. Thanks anyway but.
evita and endeavoru are not very interchangeable and im pretty sure making a charge case fit would be even more troublesome of a task.
they were nice enough to say that case does not fit the evita which some cases do not say. i would say it definitely DOES NOT FIT.

Hey everyone. I been seeing a bunch magnet based type c connectors popping up where you plug a small connector to your phone to which a cable magnetically attaches to for easy attaching and detaching.
Kind of like this one
Has anyone come across a similar thing but a dock instead of a cable? Basically having the same plug on the phone but being able to just put it on a dock that has the other magnetic end. The problem with phone docks is it's hard to plug the phone in and out of them. This might be a good solution.
If there isn't anything already available, I'm thinking I might make one. For those of you that have/had the Nexis 10, I'm the guy that made the extremely popular (by my standards) docks for that tablet. If there is enough interest, I can tap into everything I've learned from that project and make something like this.
What do you guys think?
That's pretty cool, and something I've been looking at doing, did you 3D print it? If so, care to share the file? if not, how did you make it?

Really nice!
Don't have the 30 to spend right now, but if still available when the time comes, I'll definitely buy one. :good:
Will you still be able to plug a "normal" USB C cable into the phone or you have to remove the adapter that makes it magnetic?
I like it!
Typo advice for your Amazon product listing: You wrote "Mirco-USB" in the product listing! Also, it was confusing to me that you list 3 connectors in 1 item, because I am used to eBay listings where I have to specify what type... Also I think you should specify "Apple Lightning Connector" because as a non-Apple user, I initially thought that you were advertising that the dock included "Lighting".
If it was $30 like the guy above me said, I wouldn't be getting one, but since Amazon is showing me $10 or $12 with cable, I'm violating my own boycott of Amazon in protest of the unfair working conditions & low wages subsidized by US food stamps for its employees in face of the $25 million per hour that Jeff Besos pays himself (considering that he crossed the $100 Billionaire line in 2017, and now has $150,000,000,000 in wealth in 2018, and a typical US work-year is 2000 hours).
I found the magnetic cables wearing out quickly. The ones that didn't, only charge at a slow speed...
