Ok so I have unlocked and rooted my HTC One X and using TWRP I flashed the latest nightly. When it reboots and loads to the White HTC screen I no longer see the disclaimer in red lettering and then I get a CyanogenMod symbol rotating in a circle but it never full loads. Any Ideas? How long should I allow it to load or is it stuck in a loop. I have restored to back Up once already and rooted again and tried the process all over again with no luck. I never get past the rotating CyanogenMod symbol.

You have to download adb and fastboot, you can get them in the android SDK, or http://uploaded.net/file/xr60mwlt may have what you need

Sorry, I'm new here and just trying to figure this out. I apologize for the other post and realized I posted it in the wrong section.
No need to apologize, I was just pointing out to hit the thanks button for AbGrim and that had you waited just a bit longer or read more, your choice,.. you already had two people there start helping you.
These guys helping you an others have been doing everything they can to help the "New guy" that rushed rooting/flashing before under standing what he's/their doing.
As someone who loves these guys for their efforts it needs pointing out to the New guys to slow down and not trash the free help as some have.
Also to do a little leg work, like most of it, read the stickies familiarize oneself with things long before flashing.
This is probably the thirtieth thread where end result,
the guy forgot to learn to flash boot.img.
So someone's not reading much honestly.
Not ranting on you really, but you are front an center.
The mods can remove this post if they want or need to,

And you did flash the boot.IMG from fastboot?

It is unlocked.
I've downloaded Android SDK. Move the boot image over. Did the command it says waiting for device and nothing happens. So then I put file in X-Factor and then it used same command. Same luck. So I dragged boot image into adb and fastboot and then went into recovery. Flashed from TWRP and Flashed Gapps. Then Rebooted. Still stuck in a loop.

Nope. Boot into your bootloader. Then into fastboot.
When you are in fastboot mode on your phone, try the command again.
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
Then go into recovery and flash the rom.
That should fix your problem

yes of course it does not include it it's guide that was written for an earlier version of hboot !!!
It also shows a picture of CWM, is that a good enough reason to use it ?
But what's the #1 instruction in the guide, let me quote it for you:
1.Read the install instructions provided by the ROM's developer. Some ROMs require multiple files be flashed when installing a ROM

Apologies in advance if this is the wrong forum.
Today I successfully perm rooted my Doubleshot...
Then I tried to flash CM9 Alpha 5 using CW recovery.. downloaded the .zip...
Flashed it.. hit reboot... and it wont get past the mytouch splash screen.
I've tried flashing other roms, and other alphas.. but they all don't reboot into the rom.
I can still boot into recovery and get into ClockWork..
Any ideas on what I can flash or do to at least get any rom running on here... I'm not even picky at this point... I just wanted something like CM7 or some AOSP.
Thanks in advance.

You have to take the bootimage from the rom that you are using and put in a folder and name it so you can reconize it. You follow the command prompt instructions they give in this thread. You have to have some knowlege of a PC in order to be successful. I had the same problems as you did. You can get it to work... Do you know how to use the command prompt for your PC?

Last question before I fastboot, is it necessary to have the SDK or ADB to fastboot? Can I fastboot/flash the kernel using Hasoon's all-in-one-kit (the app I used to attain root)? Or is it too late since now the device wont boot and Hasoon "can't find the device"?
I have the boot.img I want in a place where I can locate it. Can I use the command prompt without the SDK/ADB?
Interestingly enough I was able to mount using recovery, and boot a new kernal... phone won't boot but at least it's stuck at a different splash screen lol "mikroms"..
I'm calling this progress.
*UPDATE*
Ok, got it!
I mounted the phone to my computer using recovery and used the Hasoon kit to flash the CM boot image.. then I rebooted and got the mikroms splash screen. That was because the last zip i flashed wasn't CM.. it was the MikRom..
so I went back into recovery, flashed CM.. now I'm good!

Of course not. 'Fastboot' is an 'ADB' command. BUT if Hasoon's tool 'can't find device'....that's an ADB error message and you probably don't have all the drivers installed that you need but he has the necessary files included for what you need for 'Unlocked" & recovering from a mess-up. You may as well go ahead & install ADB tho....you'll eventually need it.

I believe what you did is 'Flash' a ROM from MikROMs but the kernel didn't go because you have S-On. Take that same '.zip' you just flashed, look inside it and put the file named 'boot.img' where you can find it in the windows 'path' and THEN
'fastboot flash boot boot.img' http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1508556
You should boot up fine then.

you need to extract the boot.img from the ROM and place it in the same folder as fastboot.exe
boot your phone into fastboot, by holding power and volume down until the phone turns off, release power but not volume down. You are now in hboot.
Make sure it says FASTBOOT USB.
Open command prompt
Navigate to where fastboot.exe is, for example cd C:\fastboot
then type fastboot flash boot boot.img

flashing boot.img is one of the easiest things in the world to do on ones phone. now that flashimagegui supports our phone its even easier and less of a hassle just make sure you do it before you flash the rom =) you dont even have to extract the boot.img if you use flashimagegui just load up the zip and it will find boot.img. then reboot into recovery, wipe and flash rom.

This is the problem. It doesn't specify where fast boot is or how you get it. So when it says to put it in the same folder people get confused. Is it on the phone, desktop or somewhere else? I'm past that hurdle and currently running CM10 but I think this is where people are getting stuck. I did however buy FlashImageGUI since it was only $.99.

Okay, so I decided to do something stupid and forget to backup my HTC One S while rooting. I installed CM10, and it got stuck in a bootloop, so stupid me decided to also do a factory reset and basically delete everything I needed to get out of it. I've tried numerous things, including ADB sideloading a ROM, but whenever I do that, it also gets stuck in a boot loop. I have no idea how to use RUU's, and if anybody could help me to fix my phone, that'd be really really helpful. I'm also kindof a n00b towards this stuff, so step-by-step instructions would be much appriciated Thanks.

Is your device S-off and do you have supercid?
Then I believe you can just use any RUU file for your phone to get it back to stock.
A Ruu is basically a file that installs the stock ROM onto your device.
Find the Ruu you need here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2094414
Just download it, connect your phone with a USB and run the Ruu file ( it's an .exe ) on your PC.
I hope this helps. Don't just listen to my advice. I'd wait till someone confirms my advice to be safe/correct. I'm still a bit of a noob after all who's trying to help and learn.

I think my device is s-off...i used the HTC One S all in one toolkit, and I have no idea what supercid is :s I've tried a couple RUU's before (don't know if i used them correctly, but i did relock the bootloader when i did it) but none of them helped. It just stayed at a black screen with "htc" in the middle. No error triangles or anything.
Did you run the RUU files like you would run an .exe file on your pc with your phone connected by USB?
I'm not sure how your PC will recognize your phone when you're not in fastboot (bootloader).. Or am I misunderstanding something.
Wait. Can you get into your recovery? Do you still have that installed?

Yeah, the RUU's were .exe's with my phone connected through USB. I can get into recovery, I have CWM installed.
I'm not sure if CWM has this option, but maybe you can mount your phone through recovery.
Then just place a new ROM on your SD card and flash it.

Well thats what I've been trying to do with the ADB sideloading, because it wont let me mount my sd card. It just says 'ERROR MOUNTING SD CARD" and when I've tryed flashing a new ROM from ADB sideloading, it just gets stuck in a bootloop again.
My best bet is to run the RUU file.
To know which one is the correct one is to see which RUU title fits your phone's Stock 'settings' the best (ie: provider, country, android version)

Did you try flashing the boot.IMG from adb. It sounds to me, that since every ROM you try results in a bootloop that you did not flash the boot.IMG

You failed to follow the instructions to install the rom. That is why you phone wouldn't boot.
Download or build from source
Download gapps
wipe unless you're upgrading from an earlier CM10 ROM
flash rom in recovery
flash gapps in recovery
unless you have s-off fastboot flash boot boot.img

Take your CM10 Rom and open it up. Inside you'll find a file called boot.img. Copy that file to the location where you installed the toolkit. Place it in the data folder there. Then open the toolkit and press the "flash a kernel" button. Just follow the instructions to flash the file.
You phone should now be fixed just reboot it.
Next time, make sure you read the instructions and if you aren't sure what's going don't move forward. Or use the search button. Finally, questions like this one go in the Q&A forum. :good:

Thanks, I'll try that and see how it goes. I totally forgot to do a backup, and I now know that I should do one...and sorry, I'm kinda new to the forum and went here as a last resort.

It not really a big deal. Your problem is the most common one we see in Q&A. Also, once you finish flashing the boot.img keep in mind that CM10 can take a few minutes to boot the first time.
Also, just a heads up while the toolkits are helpful learning the command yourself actually lets do you a lot more things a lot faster.

Thanks for the quick responses guys, I'm going to try that once I get home. Do I absolutely need USB debugging enabled? Because mine Isn't :s

Nope, just gotta do it one of the three ways mentioned. If debugging isn't enabled use option 1.
This can either be done via
1 powering off and keeping volume up & the power-button pressed
2 the extended power-menu (If your ROM has it, just select "reboot" & then "bootloader")
3 via adb, connect your phone with the pc, make sure it says "USB debugging connected", go to Android/platform-tools/ & then press shift while you perform a right click with the mouse, then choose "open prompt here", type

Hello my friends!!
I really need you help, I have some kind of soft brick. After I try to update my new htc one xl (asia version), now I'm stuck in a boot loop. Here's my info:
my CID=11111111.
I can get to bootloader & fastboot. My phone is stuck on the htc logo "htc quietly brillant". I think tha I screw up the OS.
Any ideas??
Best regards,
Happened to me, too. What worked for me was getting into fastboot and doing:
Code:
fastboot erase cache
in the windows command prompt. After that get the ROM you most recently installed and extract the "boot.img" and put it in the same directory as fastboot.exe and then flash that boot image with:
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Once that is done, do this again:
Code:
fastboot erase cache
and it should boot normally.
Let us know if that is not the case.
You should only need to use fastboot erase cache once. Doing it a second time is pointless. Also, your problem is extremely well documented on this site by the hundreds before you who have posted this exact same issue.
Not to mention, if you can't figure this out, you never should have rooted in the first place. This is why I ignored this post.
Search and read and you'll easily fix your phone.
Egoista's solution assumes you have a 1.14 hboot and hadn't flashed the boot.img

Thanks a lot for both replies!!
Finally I use RUU tool and everything was great. Now I have my phone updated to Jelly Bean

The reason for this is quite simple, and should have been obvious. OTA needs stock recovery in order to install. When it can't find stock recovery, the install gets stuck.
RUU worked because RUU also overwrites recovery with the stock one.
In any case, you should never ever install an OTA on a rooted device without first researching what will happen, at a minimum. It usually won't work, and will often bootloop the device.

I suggest not updating at all without reading. Even custom ROMs.

Hello everyone,
I have used you guys in the past for other devices but never needed serious help, so here I am stuck in a looping hell
I have an HTC One X that I am trying to root and install the TWRP (I want to have an android that is factory set without the carrier info and bloatware ect)
The utility I am using is the HTC One X (Tegra 3/International) AIO Kit By Hasoon2000 v2.5. Here is my main issue:
I have successfully navigated all the steps to root the phone (Steps 1-5) and now when I boot into the bootloader I see the following,
***TAMPERED***
*** UNLOCKED ***
evita pvt ship s-on rl
hboot-2.14.0000
radio-0.23a.32.09.29
opendsp-v31.1.0.45.0815
emmc-boot
nov 26 2012,18:37:14:-1
Now from here it was my understanding that under "next, flash a recovery" I would simply pick "TWRP" and then click "flash recovery". This seems to work as the green bar in the top right loads briefly. After that I am at a loss. If I go to "bootloader" then go to "recovery" like the instructions say the phone just restarts and I see the Rogers splash screen again...
If it helps, when I try to flash the recovery using the "clockwordmod" it gives me an error "cannot load recoveries/cwm.img"
So to make this easier all I want is my phone to have nothing to do with the carrier on it, all traces of that wiped off at the single file level if possible.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have been at this for almost 6 hours straight
The phone is boot looping because you don't have a tegra3 international one x. You have the evita (one xl). Stop what your doing i will post you a link with correct software in a minute.
Read this and then try again.

You're using the wrong toolkit, the Tegra 3/International is the Endeavor. You have the Evita, which is why it says Evita in your bootloader. You can flash TWRP 2.6 by following the below steps:
Download TWRP 2.6 from here. Put the file in your fastboot folder. Connect phone in fastboot mode, open command prompt from within fastboot folder, issue the following commands:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery "filename.img"
(the exact filename, minus the talking marks)
Code:
fastboot erase cache
Code:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Now you can enter recovery on your phone and flash a custom ROM. You've been looking in the wrong forum, that's how your ended up with the toolkit for the wrong device. So always stay in this forum (the one you've posted in), and only ever download ROMs from here for Sense based ROMs or here for aosp ROMs. Don't ever download from a different forum or a different site. That leads to bricked phones.
Oh, and next time, do some more reading before you attempt to alter your phone, you're lucky you didn't brick it. It pays to spend 12 hours reading before trying anything, rather than spending 6 hours trying to fix a mistake because you didn't have the necessary understanding of what you were doing in the first place.

you guys are amazing.... im going to try this now... I hope its not too late because I just noticed that I have no network connection to the provider and no signal I will update as soon as im done
WOW its working.... I cant believe its that easy lol....
On a side note I am in the screen that has install/wipe/backup ect.... so I am kinda lost on what to do from here. When I go to install it has a folder view of the internal phone. Is there something else I need to do to have it boot normally?
If you want to keep the stock ROM but have root, you'll need to download a superuser zip and flash that using the install menu in recovery. Wipe cache and dalvik cache afterwards.

Do I need to download superuser.zip from somewhere special or does it matter?
As an update when I try to open up SuperSU it says "The SU binary needs to be updated. Continue?" I select continue and it gives me two choices, either "normal" or twrp/cwm"
I clicked twrp/cwm and it just restarts my phone to the recovery mode and I don't know where to go from there.
(I hate asking so many questions, is there a how-to for the recovery that I just installed? I am hunting around and cant find much)
UPDATE: I have successfully installed super user and everything is good to go, the only thing im still struggling with is the superuser.zip to set the phone to factory settings and get rid of all the providers bloatware/splashscreen ect
Ok, so you've already got a ROM on there with superuser? You can just try the normal method of updating instead of recovery method.

If you want to keep the stock ROM, you can use an app called Titanium Backup to remove bloatware. Or you can go to either of the development sections I listed before to find a ROM you think might suit you.

Yea I bought awhile ago titanium backup pro so I will use that for the bloatware, and as for the ROMS that you listed you mentioned Sense based ROMs or aosp ROMs... what is the difference? Is there one I should use over the other?
It really comes down to personal choice. Sense ROMs are what is installed on the phone when you buy it, they contain the HTC Sense UI.
Aosp ROMs are pure android, if you've ever seen a Nexus phone, that's essentially what it looks like. Aosp ROMs are generally a bit snappier.
There are some really good ROMs in both categories. The devs for our device do an outstanding job. I'm fond of both types of ROM. But, right now I'm using MagioRom, I've always disliked Sense ROMs but this one is Sense 5 and it looks a lot better than previous Sense versions, and is nice and smooth with great battery life.

very interesting... I am a huge minimalistic fan... greys and whites are nice too... I appreciate all the help you have given me and I told my buddies who are jumping on the android bandwagon to come to this site...
is there anything special I need to do to install the ROMs? I assume there will be a guide in those links (at work cant view them yet)

If you like minimalistic, then aosp is probably the way to go for you. If your buddies are gonna get into modding their phones, I have some golden advice: read, read, read, and read some more before attempting anything. Modding is not hard if you know what you're doing, but it it's very easy to turn your phone into a paperweight if you rush in. Also, only ever get information and software from XDA, other sites don't properly distinguish between our model (HTC One XL/Evita) and the HTC One X (Endeavor).
In terms of installing, it's pretty simple:
1: Make a backup of your current setup using the backup function in recovery. That way if something goes wrong, you can restore it and have a working OS.
2: Perform a full wipe (cache/dalvik/factory reset/system).
3: Install the ROM using the install function. Aosp ROMs also require you to install a gapps package specific to the Android version of the ROM (4.1/4.2). Sense ROMs don't require this step.
4. You are s-on (security on) so you need to flash the boot.img for each ROM manually. Extract the boot.img from the ROM zip and copy it into your fastboot folder on your pc. After you've flashed the ROM and/or gapps, reboot to bootloader and connect your phone, make sure it says fastboot on your phone screen. Then you can issue the following command:
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Now you can reboot your phone into the ROM.
