Onda V711 Quick review and Modifications to make more "English" - Android General

I have been using an Onda V711 Tablet for a couple weeks now and have been working on fine tuning it to work properly.
I wanted to post a few modifications that I have done in order to get all of the bugs worked out.
1) Keyboard shows ALL english words as misspelled. -- Fix is to replace LatinIME.apk and add Latin imeDictionarypack.apk with an english version. Now the built in dictionary will work properly. Like all Onda tablets, the unit comes with a Chinese dictionary and even when you change the language the dictionary does not update.
2) No Contacts.apk app. I installed a default contacts.apk app and contactssync.apk app to fix this. The application would NOT show up in the app drawer nor as a widget however I was able to get it on my desktop by using the option under Shortcut "Activities" to select the option under contacts. You can also add the phone option to your desktop this way if you prefer to view "contacts" via the dialer It is also under the contacts activity.
3) Not all Google Apps were installed. I downloaded and installed the latest gapps pack. Not all are fully supported such as I have been unable to get facelock to work
4) Virgin Mobile broadband only SIM was not supported. I modified a new file called options and updated the mcli-gsm file along with updating the apns-confi.xml file for this purpose. Now I have full Virgin Broadband service using the E160E USB modem. It is fully supported with signal strength and data mode displayed.
5) Charging is pretty slow and I have been playing with the app called Fast Charge. It seems to help, and can be found on google play.
From an app standpoint I have found apex launcher along with A.I. type keyboard (only because of the typing shortcuts feature) I have found the usb Ethernet adapters are supported which is nice. I did not delete, but only disabled all of the Chinese apps.
I posted a zip file at the following link. http://d-h.st/drf 24Mb
Remember when replacing files, always make a backup and ensure the file permissions are correct. If the file permissions are wrong it will NOT work. Just look at the old file to determine what the properties should be
The install readme text is listed below:
Using ES File explorer from play.google.com enable root explorer access, mout file system as writable, enable to root all enabelded. All Root settings are listed under ES explorer settings.
Before overwritting anyfile make a backup copy simply by changing the filename extension to .bak
copy apns-conf.xml to /system/etc/ set permissions to rw- r-- r--
copy LatinIME.apk to /system/app/ set permissions to rw- r-- r--
copy LatinImeDictionaryPack.apk to /system/app/ set permissions to rw- r-- r--
copy options to /system/etc/ppp/ set permissions to r-x r-x r-x
copy mcli-gsm to /system/etc/ppp/peers/ set permissions to r-x r-x r-x
For Gapps files
NOTE: to enable contacts on the launcher you must add a shortcut using the "activities" option as the contacts app will not otherwise be shown as a shortcut or in the app drawer.
copy ANY Gapp File desired to /system/app/ set permissions to rw- r-- r--
If this helped you feel free to PM me via this forum on how you can buy me a beer

Can i do this "NOTE: to enable contacts on the launcher you must add a shortcut using the "activities" option as the contacts app will not otherwise be shown as a shortcut or in the app drawer."?

Guide-Easy Way to Re install Deleted Applications

The easiest way, at least for me, to get an app into /system/app is to use Root Explorer to copy the apk into /system/app.
To do this:
In Root Explorer, copy the apk file you want to put in /system/app
Navigate to the /system/app directory
Tap the Mount R/W button on the top right
Tap Paste
Scroll down to the pasted apk, long press on it and select Permissions (you'll see 9 check boxes when you do this)
Check the Read and Write buttons for User, and only the Read boxes next to Group and Others, then tap OK (once you're done, the read/write permissions under the app name should be the same as all the other apps listed (rw-r--r--))
Reboot.
If anybody want any system app,i have backup of all the stock rom apps...let me know if somebody want...

Install QuickPic as a default system gallery app

Download and upzip file below
Open Root Explorer (https://play.google.com/store/apps/...sImNvbS5zcGVlZHNvZnR3YXJlLnJvb3RleHBsb3JlciJd)
Copy libqpicjni87.so to system/lib
Copy QuickPic.apk to system/app
Set permission for both files: rw-r--r--
Do not need to reboot
QuickPic will appear in app drawer

How to install the stock Samsung browser on Verizon S6

I noticed some people were interested in installing the Stock Samsung browser on the Verizon S6 variant so I figured I'd make a little tutorial on how to do just that.
Steps:
1.) You'll need to download the stock Samsung browser files. This can be done here.
2.) Install Root Browser from the play store. (Obviously make sure you grant it root permissions)
3.) Find the Samsung browser folder you just downloaded from Mega and unzip it. The end result will be a folder named "SBrowser_3.0.38".
4.) Copy this unzipped to your /System/app folder.
--Now we need to change the permissions so that the android system can recognize these newly placed files--
5.) Set the permissions as follows: (To set the permissions, you need to press and hold on the name of the folder or file you wish to edit, then click "Permissions") See screenshots
SBrowser_3.0.38 - rwxr-xr-x
lib (folder) - rwxr-xr-x
SBrowser_3.0.38.apk - rw-r-r
arm (folder) - rwxr-xr-x
libsbrowser.so - rw-r-r
libsecv8.so - rw-r-r
libUCProxySDK.so - rw-r-r
libUCProxyWTF.so - rw-r-r
libwbs.so - rw-r-r
6.) Exit and reboot.
Once you've done this, android will boot up with the "Android is upgrading..." screen. The "Internet" apk should now be in your app drawer.
If this helped, please hit the "Thanks" button!
*Note - I have not figured out how to enable the fingerprint scan for password entry. Not sure this is possible for our variant at this time.
Troubleshooting
If the app appears in the app drawer but force closes itself when you try to open it, you are either missing some files, or you didn't set the permissions correctly. Look at my screenshots and make sure the file sizes and permissions are correct.
If no app appears in the app drawer when you reboot, you probably didn't unzip the file before you pasted it in the /system/app directory. Remember to extract it before you copy over the files! You should have copied the "SBrowser_3.0.38" folder, not the "SBrowser_S6_alemtro" zip.
Any direction on the smart manager app? I'm following the directions in the s4 thread, but no go.

Quite honestly, I was told that the smart manager is a bit of a battery hog and that an app like "Clean Master" does essentially the same thing so I never went about getting that app myself. But from looking at the directions I would just say to make sure you are putting it in the "/system/priv-app" folder instead of the "/system/app" folder and just make sure the permissions match those of other files and folders in that directory. I have heard some people have had success with it so it can be done.
Thanks for the tutorial, I didnt have a problem with setting permissions. But good to see I did it right. Any idea how to install smart manager? Put it in app/priv folder. Set permissions but not working.
Works great! +1

I got Smart Manager to work. I just followed the same permissions as the browser. Worked like a charm.

Appreciate the info. That's what I did, but it will not work for me. Where did you get the apk and associated files?

What I did was follow the exact instructions on how to install the browser. Same permissions and everything. I got the apk from the same thread as the browser.

I've managed to get the FingerPrint working for autocompleting on the Verizon Galaxy S6 Edge, and posted it over on the app thread there. If you'd like me to get it working for the regular S6 send me the SecSettings2 folder within system/priv-app.

Make sure the permissions are exactly like it is for the browser. As for Viper, I haven't installed it yet. Haven't had time. Did you try rebooting after you made the changes? It should say updating apps.
I'm convinced that smart manager just will not work on some versions. Dunno why, but it won't. I have tried everything I can think of..no go

[Completed] DELETED SYSTEM APPS [SOLUTION] (ROOT REQUIRED) no PC just Prayers :)

You need: ROOT - File Explorers (I Prefer using ES File Explorer) good heart, determination, and Pray First.
after googling the solution for this, i found the tutorials on other sites useless.
i have the situation that i deleted important system apps like android system webview, email, and exchange services.
it was a bit late when i found that those apps are responsible for your browser, messages and other internet dependent apps to run. without this systems apps you cant open your apps and they will automatically force close.
for this to be fixed you need to mount the apk files back to /system/app partition. but other ppl have the problem that their apps wont install. i found that the reason behind this are the permissions and the way you copy/cut things.
for example i have my Email.apk on sd card and cut then paste it to my system/app. u cant do it just like that because the apk will lose its icon and the apk will not install after reboot.
here's how i did it.
Open ES file explorer. configure the root permissions, mount r/w
navigate to where the apk file is then copy it to the root of your internal storage.
next you must rename it to its package name (for example i have "Email.apk" i use the properties option on ES F.Ex to know what is the package name and i got "com.android.email-1.apk"
before you can move this apk file to your /system/app. you must configure the permission of the folder for the app icon to stay
i set the permission folder of /system to rwx r-x r-x
then for /app rwx rwx rwx.
you can now paste your apk to /system/app
after that set the permission of the apk to rw- r-- r--
after that reboot your device. pray. and you will see the app back on your menu. Congrats! ))))))))
(do the same if you have encountered it with .odex files) cheers!
XDA Assist is not the place for this post.

Screen Record Oreo

Hello
Does anybody know if it is possible to record the Screen with internal Sound with the native Samsung screen recorder.
I've tried to install the app, but it only say that the installation failed. Also I've tried to clone the App to give it an other signature, but then the App crashed. I have root, if this matters.
If someone wants to try it, here is the app:
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsu...record-screen-3-1-00-16-android-apk-download/
Thank you in advance
I've got it to work on s9 port
so it's not possible anymore to use the internal screen recorder on stock s7 oreo rom?
I've found a solution. Just copy the .apk to the /system/app folder and create a shortcut with the activity runner

How did you copy the apk ? I tried with an explorer folder app with root permissions but it didn't work.
With the ES File Explorer. Just copy the app, set the right permissons ( rw- r-- r-- ), and restart the phone

Yeah, I didn't find where you can set permissions with ES File Explorer but I've done it with Solid Explorer and worked.
Thanks
