[Q] stock atrix 2 update bricked? help? - Motorola Atrix 2

my wife has the atrix 2 i dont think it was rooted. earlier today it powered off or something and now the only way to get it to respond is to plug it in then it says battery at 0% a few seconds later 5% then a few seconds later 100%. if i hit power it goes black and if i try recovery it goes black. if i plug into my computer i just get a white light thats it. any help?

Sounds like a faulty battery. What has been done to it, what system version is it running, can you boot into AP Fastboot by holding the volume up/volume down/power button at the same time? Have you tried plugging it in to the wall charger, removing the battery while still charging, replace the battery and let fully charge?
Also, for future reference, please search the forums before starting new threads. There has already been a thread established for this type of thing, found here:

You can pick up an OEM or third party battery for fairly inexpensive. There's a battery guide that I've posted with some helpful hints and a charging trick (3rd post) if you ever run into any battery reporting errors. Good luck... :good:

U can try this method too

Edit : oops, i thot he couldnt charge his phone

Ignore that, read my signature first
You should First try the three button restart, which is volume up + volume down + power button
then try adb restart....(see Sig) you'll need adb and drivers installed
If that doesn't work then and only then remove battery

+1. The three button restart and adb are handy. But more often than not, in a system freeze, both become unresponsive and a battery pull is the only remainnig option...you could use that as a final resort, as suggested by most members on our forums.
Or simply do what i do, if battery pull is the only option remaining... which is to still not pull the battery!!
I just leave the phone aside and forget about it. Ususlly, in about half an hour or so, it reboots on it's own. It sounds counter-intuitive, i know, but this happens, probably because i've had the patience to actually let the phone sit untouched without fidgeting around.
Sometimes it doesn't reboot on its own. In those cases, i just let it sit there and allow the battery to run out (it will discharge to 0% at sometime you know; we're not using nuclear power for cellphones just yet!!)
Once it switches off after running out of power, you can connect it to the charger and reboot into recovery and do what needs to be done.
In my experience with flashing ROMs and other add-on stuff, which i do all the time, i've encountered system freeze in new and beta builds a total of 8 times. In 5 of them, the system froze while booted up into a ROM, and the first phenomenon that i have mentioned above, happened, i.e an auto-restart in 30-60 mins. On the other 3 occasions, incompatible beta flashes rendered phone unresponsive at HTC splash screen and i had to wait it out before the phone discharged itself, and then i picked it up from there.
It does take a little patience, but after knowing full well that a battery pull often results in permanent damage to the DS, it would be really foolish and cavalier on anybody's part to do it, just because you can't wait a few hours! Saves you a lot of sleepless hours later on, posting "HELP" threads all over xda and haggling with HTC support.
I still stand by this method, and absolutely condemn battery pulling. It is not justified on the DS for whatever reason you may think of! But hey, it's your phone, so do want you want with it. I'm secure in the knowledge that with this technique, mine is 100% safe...
You can also check if you have the vulnerable emmc card, like I have! Then u know to be extra careful.
Search for the thread about it
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda premium
You mean there is two emmc chips : one which is vulnerable, and one which is not ? how do you know which one you have, and if it is "vulnerable" ?
There is a batch which everyone who has had bricked failures had the same batch of emmc.
There are threads about it you should be able to find... I'm not searching whilst on my phone

it may be hardware.
you may try to use the jig as a first option.
if that doesn't work, you may have to warranty the phone thru samsung as hw failure or send it to one of those guys in the yt vid

You're thank button don't work?
Make sure your battery is good or charged past half.
Either heimdall package will work...follow op's. Flash twice for BL's
I have the exact same problem! How did you get Oden to recognize? I will happily give you $20 if you can help. Please help out a mate! Thanks!
Sorry qkster, been on my phone all day not near a computer, don't think I can thank from my xda app
Put it in dl mode even with the white screen, then reinstall kies on your computer for the drivers, then open Odin and it should recognize,I actually used heimdall and a jar file to flash it, works good now, but I can't seem to root, and I can't turn my phone on from power of unless it's plugged in...pm me if any issues

np..maybe it's your battery that's bad.
try a different 1.
if you use heimdall frontend, you need pit and repartition unless you also use the 1 click packages
i'm wondering if it's your battery...
I was thinking too...but my battery even at 100% and I power off I can't turn it on unless it has pee to it... No power hooked up I have to hold power Burton for about 10 seconds then the picture of the 0 battery appears with the little charging star, then dies.... Pee plugged in,I hold power for about 10 seconds and I get the same thing but it goes from 0% battery pic to green charging battery, then I have to hold power again and it will bout up fine...very strange, wish I has another battery kicking around, but I just gave my star...lol

Sounded like you were fortunate to get it running again.
I couldn't tell if it's your charging port or the battery is bad. I have read of corrosion issues as well.
If you have a captivate battery sitting around, it may loosely fit to test out the battery theory.
You can also try a att kiosk or store..they can test it for you.
here is another option I found pretty good:

help :[ phone wont turn on at all now

i was in recovery and fixed permissons for whatever reason.... and my phone would only boot up to the samsung logo. i was going to do the "HOW-TO unbrick your soft bricked gs3" downloaded everything but now my phone wont turn on at all. it was low battery, but it wont charge now. , to even get it to show a sign of life, i plug my phone into the computer or outlet without the battery, put the battery in and it flashes the battery logo for about 2 seconds, and the loading circle does not spin. then it just goes black.
any idea?

Just let your battery charge for an hour or two. I know there are no signs us charging, but I've seen this a couple times on the threads here and after charging anyways works. Assuming you didn't flash an international ROM

Ya do what kintwofan said, it happened to me once where it seemed like it wasnt charging but it was. If you leave it on the charger for like a hour and it still wont boot then try and boot it into recovery then in that menu goto reboot now.

Skyrocket NOT shutting off

I seem to have a strange problem. My Skyrocket does not want to stay off. I power down the phone, and it comes back up on its own immediately. I've tried this with and without charger connected. I had this problem on Embryo 5.4, and now also on 6.1. Right now, my only option when I need the phone to stay off (like when traveling by air, which I do often) is to take the battery out. The second I put the battery back in, the phone boots up.
Could anyone help me out here?
I tried searching the forum for similar issues, but could not find any. But in case I've missed a thread, feel free to start the flaming .
Thanks in advance for any help.

I believe it happens to me when my battery is full or mostly full. Does it happen to your phone when the batter is low?
Stuck power button. It's a known issue on the skyrocket. There are a number of threads on how to clean it. Search stuck power button on the i727.

if you read the sticky [REF] |Read This b4 posting | THE MOST Common Questions Answered HERE you might of found your answer
24) Q. i tried "name of custom rom here" but a feature of the phone doesnt work , eg. camera
A. read the thread for the rom to see if the dev states any issues, read users feedback if they have/mention said feature not working, eg camera, if no, did it work when on stock or return to stock to see if said function/hardware works, if said function works on stock and users of rom states that it does work, then its usually user error, what error? idk, you need to troubleshoot.
32) Q. why does my phone bootloop every few seconds
A. could be a "sticky power button", read the next question and the info section in the 1STOP STICKY
33) Q. how do i test for a stuck "sticky" power button
A. TEST: remove then reinsert the battery and if the phone turns on by itself and then takes approx 10 sec's to turn off and then starts vibrating every couple of seconds then its for sure a power button problem, its stuck, goto the link in the previous answer for a possible fix
Click to collapse
if any of the above didn't get results or fix the issue then it could be a hw failure
Except it's not bootlooping I did read this I wouldn't have asked the question if that was the problem. The screen doesn't come on at all just get a small vibration when holding the power button then nothing pull battery put back in push power same thing.

if the pulling battery test resulted in "turns on by itself and then takes approx 10 sec's to turn off and then starts vibrating every couple of seconds " then its a stuck button, bootloop/vibrating every couple of sec's are synonymous, but I will reword the sticky to state both
edit: the key thing you need to establish is if reinserting the battery restarts the phone w/out u touching the power button, if so then the button is stuck. if it didn't restart then return to stock and see if it corrected the issue( I guess that would be hard todo if the phone only restarts/vibrates every 2 seconds), if not then its some hw failure or could even be a battery prob
I reedited the sticky to be more concise on the issue and the testing for the stuck power button
No it doesn't boot by itself when reinserting the battery. Sorry I'm Utah and the phone is in Texas. computer doesn't recognize anything when plugging in either. Using logmein to watch his computer while he's doing this. I do appreciate the help

I figured as such that it might have something todo w/the battery, either it was flaky or not charged or cannot be charged which could also be with the charger and/or cable or bad battery contacts. I haven't seen a phone behave in the way you described other than a bad power button, if you ruled out all the known issues as stated in my previous posts then it would have to be a hw issue but hopefully it was just a bad power adapter, usually the first thing a user would do is rule out a dead battery before seeing what else could be wrong with the phone
