I'm rooted and unlocked running the hd radio and the g7 build. I just got an ota update message and postponed it for 2 hours. Will the update just fail?
I very happy with my phone as is and would prefer to wait on the update until all the devs have seen it.
I'm surprised I can't find a thread about it anywhere but someone must be in the same situation as I am?
Thx
Well there is this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1955746
just a few posts after yours.
Did you ever update to the HE build? That's probably all this is.

Well there are plenty of threads already about the recent OTA's. Freeze "sdm" using Titanium Backup or your favorite app that removes system apps. Either way, if you have a custom recovery installed then OTA's will fail. Plenty of devs have already seen this update, there is a VRALHE rom already available by Scrosler.

Thanks, I just got the ota message for the 1st time and expected I could easily find the thread but could not. I am so happy with Scott's vralg7 and the hd radios I just don't wanna rock the boat.....
I'll try freezing that file, what directory is it in?
Thanks again, I'm on an (gasp) iPad and can't find a thanks button butill push it when I'm on my pc.

I'm not sure, I'm on CleanRom 2.1 and it comes pre-removed. If searching yourself then I believe "sdm1.0" is under /system/app? I need someone to correct me on that. If you open Titanium Backup and select "System apps" though then it will be listed along with every system app installed. There's no searching for specific folder paths.
I also use an iPad. I rarely use xda from mine though, it's too difficult trying to reply use any forum website on an iPad haha

Sorry Kenny, my bad.....
Thanks to everyone for the advice. I ended up flashing Scott's rooted/deodexed VRALHE. I already had the HE radio. I didn't wipe anything and so far all is well. I assume I won't be prompted anymore for the OTA ? I'm gonna go flash hie 3 in one power menu and the 15 toggle thing.
Anyway.....Thanks

hello all, nice to be here.
Tmobile sent out a software update to my phone this morning, did any one else get one?
I was about to start modding stuff like taking off touchwiz. Would a software update make doing this harder?
It reads,
'congratulations!
T mobile has sent you a new software update for your device.
To proceed with installation select next.'
It's possible that this update might keep me from modding certain things right?
Any details known about the update?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA Premium App
Is it just KD1? I know that rolled out from tmobile recently.
It's kd1 update. We have had a deodexed and rooted version available for Odin flashing here for a while. I recommend using it instead of the tmo version. Look up Whitehawkx kd1 thread here on the forum and follow the directions in the op if you want to try it out.
Also an fyi to avoid flames--this is the dev forum. Questions should go in general forum. We are trying to keep things organized so folks can find what they need--and to keep Mr. Clown (forum mod) happy!

So we cant even use it as a base? We are porting vibrant roms now. I'd assume the same process would need to be done and the button mappings changed right?
I doubt it, not yet anyway... as you can tell they're having a bit of trouble porting froyo roms
My thunderbolt is rooted. I am not running an special roms. I quess you could said I run a stock root. My thunderbolt just told me there is a update available. If I take it will I loose root access. It is the update for the constant rebooting.
The update for rooted phones is out. I believe it is on XDA.
If you have rooted and titanium backup you can freeze the update 2.300.... progaram and your phone won't check for updates anymore and you can save a bit of memory and maybe even some battery life in the process. If your like me you check the forums for updates on a regular basis, or better yet your rooted with a custom Rom and don't worry about Verizon updates.

[ROM] Official 1.70.605.0 MR2 OTA Deodexed Rooted Busybox Debloated [Link Added]
and here is the radio file for the OTA
[RADIO] Official OTA MR2 Radio 1.39.00.0627r [7/8/2011]
That will give you basically a stock ROM without the bloat crap.
Thank you
I really do appreciate your help. One last question. Is that rom the closest I can get to stock? Also I am sorry for asking questions in the wrong place. I should have ask this in the Q&A section. It wont happen again.

Yes that is the OTA just deodexed and debloated basically. It will appear to be stock but without the garbage!

Nothing to see here, I'll wait til the official tool is released by the dev.
Looks like Adam has combined a bunch of the best root & recovery tools into one easy to use package. The DebugFS root is also available separately here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1792342

Depends on the root method. If this replaces the rom then yeah you will lose everything, but if you use this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1792342
then you will not have to change anything and it's pretty straight forward.

I had to do a factory reset on my phone yesterday to troubleshoot another issue, so I can't say 100% but the few changes I made earlier today (wallpaper, lock screen shortcuts, ringtones, installed Pandora) stayed in place. From the script, it just copies files over and then moves them to system partition during next couple boots. It does not wipe data / cache / dalvik like when you load a new ROM.
I don't know about the java tool here but the one Aquila mentioned ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1792342 ) works perfectly.
You won't lose settings or have to clear anything. Its really useful if you're on the VRALG1 firmwares and don't want to revert to LF2 from flashing a rooted ROM.
I downloaded to my pc, then hooked up my gs3 nothing? What an I suppose to do?
Never mind it worked

Should move this Thread to the development section. And let the Devs tell us if this is good or not, Pros and cons.
just noticed that Adam is a dev.but should move to development so it can be seen more!!
This tool works well without loss to data...of course no one but you is responsible if something goes wrong but from what I see it uses the debug method I have used it and obtained root fine

I'm going to go ahead and say it...
Adam posted this in the development thread where they are working on cracking the bootloader. If he wanted the masses to be using it or if it was ready for the masses to use he would have posted it outside of that thread.
I don't know if it was bc of this thread or not, but this got picked up by droid life and he had to take it down off the R&D thread.
Stuff like this shouldn't be reposted outside of that thread until it is ready and the dev who came up with it says it is ok to do so (or just posts it himself).

It may be safe, it may not be. I would go with there is a reason he hasn't released it to the public and you should use previously established methods for all this stuff.

I have to agree with the op. Threads not in development get overlooked quickly. They fall of the radar fast. I have a way to do this on stock TW without flashing files and going back to your back up, etc. But just like this guy, getting bashed for the wrong area, I'm apprehensive about posting my results. Is the fix app related? Development? General? Depends on who you talk to. Once I get a solid answer from a moderator, I will post my finds.
EDIT: I feel personally the fix should go in development. A lot of people are asking for this in all the ROMs.

The problem is if everyone posts there question in development then it still become like q & a and we won't be able to find actual development. I gave the op the answer. All you do is flash it in cwm and then it there will be a setting in the stock messaging app.

Some people may be stock rooted. May not have custom recovery. They may be happy with stock just want the nagging screen on to go away. That's all I'm doing is tweaking the stock ROM. Just FYI.

Well that's a nice tweak. I'm stock rooted myself (now) but I put a recovery on simply to do backups and ensure I don't get an ota. However many point was if they allows questions in the development thread then out will become bogged down like the other sections. Also, the op made a duplicate post in the correct section that was answered

Anyone here have the Stock JB update released today working with Google Wallet? I want to update, but I want to keep Wallet working and not break it in the process. If you had success, please share what you did to keep or restore it.
Thanks!

ive switched between 10+ different roms and had wallet workign on all of them. ive never done anything when switching. just cleared data and installed new roms like normal
i use the scripts method and flash the app in recovery after the new rom is installed
never tried on stock though, i dont see why it wouldnt work though. just use the appropriate download. theres also a new mod in teh themes and app section that is an installer. check it out. i havent tried it yet
I have google wallet working with the update by following the instructions in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1810040 . Before updating make sure you reset google wallet.
