Weird screen off problem

My bro's galaxy r has a weird problem
The screen randomly goes off bt rest all things are working
He even gets a call during that indicating that sim card and speaker are working bt the screen does not
When the screen goes off only status bar is visible
I can pull down the notification bar just once and then it also disappears
Just black screen
Need to restart it then
Happened thrice within 3hrs
He is on ics hongkong fw
Kernel 4.1 by ardatdat
Device is not oc

What do I think is, Your phone got hung while doing this. Check out what application you have installed recently & remove that.

It happens while using simple apps like touchwiz launcher ( stock)
Is there any way of knowing that its not a hardware problm?? Should I switch to some other rom to check this?
It is really irritating

Just clear the data of launcher, if problem persist do this->
1) Clear data of previous launcher.
2) Clear default from previous launcher.
3) wipe cache & dalvik cache.
3) Download any latest launcher, like apex or next launcher beta.
4) select the latest launcher by default launcher.
5) Restart.
Hope it will solve your problem.

have you did what i wrote buddy, exactly the same??

This is bug of hongkong stock fw. I have also faced it. Device freezes sometimes and only notification drawer comes down for one time and when you send it up u will see small line of bottom of notification drawer at status bar. And phone will totally freeze. You will have to reboot.
Its not hw problem at all its just a fw bug. Just change to any other ROM of ur choice or if u want more fun change to CM10 or PAC ROM.

Maybe possible this bug is present in other fws also.
There is no CM9 available for our device. But there are many other ROMs available.
If you want ICS based ROMs u can go for MIUI, angeeks, mazel etc.
There are JB ROMs available also like CM10, PAC, AOKP but they have some minor bugs.

(Q) Hand writing mode for Samsung keyboard

Higuys, can someone direct to the right link as to how to enable the handwriting feature of samsung keyboardfor N8000? Ive seen this mod in some custom roms like redemption or dr akrim's. Im currently using the latest stock version but didnt have that feature on. Appreciate any help.

When the kb pops up left of the space mine has a t with a pen next to it..I click that and it comes on..

Be aware you might also need to download the languge pack in settings. Go to settings>Language and input>Samsung Keyboard settings(little cog icon after samsung keyboard)>Input languages. Make sure the language you want has been downloaded and installed...

I also am having trouble getting this to work. I have no icon left of the space bar. I'm on 4.0.4 8013 model. Is this a Jellybean only feature?

No cuz I have jellybean (uk 8010) and I also dont have the pen icon altho I have the handwriting on in the keyboard settings.

Ok I figured it out. Press and hold the GEAR icon next to the left of the spacebar then you can choose the pen tool.

Yep, sorry should of mentioned that. In JB though you need to do what I said in my previous post on some stock roms.... Don't know why but it seems an oversight by Samsung to provide the feature but not have it active until you download the language pack and with no explanation on how to get it...

I went back to redemption rom after using the latest stock 4.1.1. But I cant seem to find it whereas in redemption rom, its there instantly.i wonder what language pack to dowmload as im just using english.

It's based on android 4.2.2

Its like CM 10.1, but there are more different settings. More than in PAC.

Time For Some Screenshots Guys..

Very much settings, more than PAC and seems to have all cm10.1 bugs. Successfully flashed cm 10.1 swap file. Theming is only done because of my cm theme. But this rom seems to be a better PAC rom, as i said before in to daily use now and it seems to work flawlessy. Everybody should try this rom and maybe one of our developers can continue the work on it. I am using it with butter kernel 1.2 by Grarak.

Before, it use pacman's framework & settings for the mix rom thing as his mod rom base since JB 4.1, it was all right actually, but later on at JB 4.2 he erased pacman's commit histories in his forked source and claimed it to be his work, and some of the Pac member reported him for stealing someone else work, that is why he and his work were banned in xda.
I hope he is doing it right this time in his new release somewhere else.

Buddy Camera is working fine without any issues.. once you download and flash the ROM go to settings -> about -> update ROM.

Bugs from cm10.1 ... Does this mean bug with connecting the phone with the system is still there

Installed - no issues.
No full wipe either, still got all my apps and settings as before.
So far so good, looks nice and smooth - as we knew though, not many major noticeable changes on the surface.

BTU is the firmware csc code for the United Kingdom unbranded firmware...

Its just the code for the unbranded (not carrier/provider specific) UK firmware, dont think it stands for anything as far as I know (British Territories Unbranded?? :silly.

Are you guys rooted or not? I'm tempted just to go back to untouched stock, as there are still issues here and there with rooted/custom 4.3. The only thing that would bug me would not be not being able to remove bloat. I had tried flashing a custom 4.3 ROM which had the data screen off bug, so then tried going back to 4.2.2 but got a bootloop. Flashed rooted 4.2.2 MGA via Odin and tried flashing custom 4.2.2 again but still got bootloops. So currently on rooted stock 4.2.2 which is working perfectly, so I suppose I should really just sit tight for now.

I've got intelliring installed. Just updated and now I'm having talk back issues again while using stock internet app. Seems fine in chrome.
Any ideas how I can stop it?

I'm running totally stock everything. I think the bloat is all part of having a samsung device. Nexus devices are so plain jayne in comparison, I came from a Nexus 4. I wouldn't get too hung up on it to be honest. I think the S4 is a real solid performing device with stock 4.3.

I'm totally stock too, have been since the most recent 4.2.2 update (since it got secure by knox). Before that I ran djemby's stock rooted ROMs to allow tinkering, but I couldn't be bothered with the flash counter/knox fuse etc. risk of flashing custom ROMs, so I just went stock while I still could.
As for bloat - I can live with it. some of it I actually use, some of it I never touch, but it's on there and its not doing any harm.
4.3 is nice and smooth, my phone is functional. I just have to live without the tinkering - it was minimal but I liked to have the choice... (I only added CRT off, symbols on keyboard, and one or two other bits anyway).

Cheers, I'm in two minds at the moment. I agree that it is a great device and enjoy having the extra features (would just like option to remove some of the apps). To be honest Im not looking to constantly flash a lot of different ROMs, happy with stock if its smooth and stable. I've got a Nexus 7 as well, so it satisfies my 'having the latest update' fix! The rooted apps I would miss would be adaway, multi window manager, root explorer option on file explorer and titanium backup (not much use for this anyway if I'm not flashing). Will think about it a bit more..

Go to Android development and read the CM11 thread. You'll have to decide if you want to try it because it is a "nightly" type release. There is not a "stable" release as of yet. However, I'm using it and so far it is great!

I have been using the CodyF86 KitKat 4.4 rom with TWRP, Expresso kernel, and Tablet UI. Absolutely Awesome. Have no issues. It will take weeks or months to be listed as stable. Do a backup first. Don't fear the beast. LOL:laugh:
I have had about a dozen different roms in mine, this is the best for sure.

The above link is for the 7.0 tab 2. If you have the 10.1 tab 2 you will have to go to the 10.1 android development section and use the CM11 thread. YOU NEED TO READ AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE ABOUT THE INSTALLATION BEFORE you do it. And ALWAYS do a backup first.

That is the same tablet ui I have. Did you lower the DPI to 120 or upped the resolution?

I never had any good results messing with DPI or resolution. This is as loaded.

I upped my resolution to 1365x800 to get 10 inch GUI without lowering the DPI to 120 and never had issues.
I am going to release a mod soon that let's you set the resolution via build.prop
