[Q] Most Stable Stock looking ROM? - Samsung Infuse 4G

My mom has an Infuse, and had it rooted when she got it. I kept it on stock since I don't wanna worry so much about it. I had it rooted so that I can do nandroid as needed, and install Avast Anti-Theft as root and in the system partition...
Now, problem is the ROM seems to be unstable and suffer from reboots and hangs... I can't even figure out what's wrong... I would love to try out ROMs, but I simply can't have the device long enough to do proper testing. I don't have it right now, and she uses it as a daily driver... Any suggestion on a stock looking rom that's probably much more stable than the stock ROM?
Canadian Rogers Infuse 4G by the way. As mentioned, already rooted and has custom recovery.
Suggestions? Thanks!

Ignore the part after "Download Root Explorer", if you want her phone to remain rooted.

I used to run Infused 2.2.3 when I was still on GB, and I found it very stable. IIRC, even the MHL adapter was working. There is also AEON v1.4SL, and CyanogenMod 7.

Rooting OTA Gingerbread

Hey everyone im kinda new to the forums.. Anyways i just downloaded GB 2.3.3 the other day. Well after that i realized my phone wasnt rooted anymore. So i updated simpleoneclick and it wouldnt work. Anyone had any success rooting their g2x after the update?
Another person with a broken search button. Need to get that fixed.
At the present time, there is no root for the GB update. There is a way to root GB but it required going back to 2.2.2 and then loading a custom GB rom.
Ya mine has been broken for awhile.. Ive been trying to fix it but no luck.. Anyways any idea if theyre working on a root for it, and if so how long do you think itll take?

There is a rooted OTA ROM in the development thread. Flash that with recovery and you will have root back and 2.3.3.

My device came with 2.3.3 you dont need to downgrade. Just nvflash cwm recovery and flash over top of the default firmware.

Apparently, you can flash with CMW Recovery without being rooted, and also make nandroids and restore them. You will not be able to use apps that require root like titanium backup.

I am a noob (first post) but I learned a lot by monitoring the forums the past few days. If you flash a rooted rom, then you can use use apps that require root access. At least that is how my G2x seems to be working.

Yes - flashing it has rooted your phone. I am somewhat surprised by this however. I would have thought rooting was done at a deeper level then anything in a ROM, but apparently that is not the case.
Good news is whatever the case, it works.
Recovery has nothing to do with the rooted status of your phone. Nvflash and cwm work no matter what.

Having an unlocked/unencrypted bootloader gives us G2X owners a LOT of flexibility with what can be done with our phones in terms of customization. Its one of the main reasons I couldn't wait for this phone to be released. Check out the first post in this thread over in the Atrix forum for a rundown of the differences between locked/unlocked/encrypted bootloaders:

im sorry for the noob questions but could you elaborate on the steps you took to do this? Im having no luck figuring out so far.
Or if anyone else could explain the process.
I downloaded cwm but it says my phone needs to be rooted just to use it. So im stuck because im with 2.3.3 which isnt rooted. I just wanna go back to 2.2 so i can have root agian or so i can download custom 2.3.3 roms which are rooted already.
thanks
is flashing the rooted rom would root my phone perma or it would be unroot after flashing anything over that rooted rom?
you need one click reovery to flash the cwm with nvflash

Rooted giingerbread leak available on TBH app

Just wanted to tell everyone that TBH released the rooted gingerbread leak on their app a while ago, here's the steps to install it:
1. Sbf to be completely stock, you must have all the stock apps and be on the 2.4.330, so if you sbf to the .29 firmware, update it to the .330 firmware
2. Root your phone and install bootstrap, don't boot into recovery yet!
3. Install the TBH app (if you don't have it, donate to team black hat to get it) and download the 2 files for gingerbread, there's a part 1 and part 2, don't rename them.
4. Boot into clockwork recovery using bootstrap
5. In bootstrap, flash part one of the update, then immediately after without restarting, flash part 2.
6. Restart, you should get the red M logo and boot into gingerbread, if you bootloop boot into recovery by holding the x button on your keyboard when you turn it on and then hold the vol up+down buttons to unlock the menu, once in the menu do a factory reset.
Rooted GB is pretty fast and stable, haven't encountered any bugs yet, battery life is pretty solid (a bit better than froyo), I'm in the process of freezing apps, its difficult now that they added a lot more bloatware that, I have to figure out which of the new apk's to freeze without breaking anything, just a heads up.
Hope you all enjoy your leaked gingerbread!
Sent from my DROID2 GLOBAL running Leaked Rooted Gingerbread!
I installed the non rooted version of this and it's been working perfectly since last night. No issues at all so far and the battery life seems better but it's still too soon to tell.
All in all, I'd say this is a great release and appears to be better than Froyo even with a ROM. I'm just currently waiting for a way to root it that doesn't involve me having to flash it again and starting from scratch.
You may wait a long time. ..
Any method that can root this without using TBH's files will require a new exploit for GB.
Dumb question, since I'm currently running a DINC2. What's the bootstrap? I've still got my old D2G, and want to put it to use now that this is leaked, but need to learn some of the terminology over here.
Thanks!

not gonna happen, currently the only way to get a rooted version on the other moto droids (except the OG droid) are to install a rooted version, theres no way to root from within gingerbread.
Hmm... I didn't know that last part there... I guess I should install the TBH version now then before I do any more customization on it. That way It doesn't hurt so much to SBF again.

so basically no need for the TBH root app?
I've seen that posted on some other sites as well since this morning. Apparently it's the same files from the TBH app. I believe you only needed the app initially to download them and nothing else so now you can flash them on your own.
the rooted version on the tbh app was released first, if you know tbh you know that when they have a leak, they like to release it on the app first, then maybe a day or so later release it to the public, when i made this post it was only available on the app.
I've been asking on My Droid World, but I haven't gotten any replies yet. I need the /system/etc/security/cacerts.bks from the new release, because I altered my cacerts.bks to add CAcert's root and now the checksum doesn't match, and therefore this won't install. Can someone send me their cacerts.bks?
There you go.
But this is from stock 2.4.330 version which I presume is what you actually need for the verification to complete.

[Q] Gingerbread Root (Was I too eager)

Hello,
When I first purchased the SGS4G a few months ago I was able to follow a nice and user-friendly tutorial on how to root my phone using super-one-click. I wanted to delete all of the nasty bloatware and also unlock my phone. That worked lovely (thanks by the way) and everything was going well....
That is until I got a message from my friend telling me that Samsung has released an offical update (gingerbread) and that it will provide better battery life ect... I eagery followed the official steps and used something called Kies to update my phone!
Everything seemed fine until I noticed some of the bloatware had returned. No problem I thought, I'll use my titanium backup app to re-delete it, no luck... Basically it seems as if my phone has been re-rooted and SuperUser freezes when I try to open it. Have I hurt my phone by upgrading without putting it back to the factory settings? I don't want to flash my phone or anything fancy, I am just wondering if I can root my phone from gingerbread again (if so how) or if I have to live with the bloatware again.
Thanks in advance!
i wouldnt use kies anymore when you have a forum like this.
we have a ton of GB roms here, so you can look into those on your own. i would recommend following FBis251's GB Starter Pack.
to answer your question, to Root GB, just flash Drhonks GB kernels. that will give you root and CWM
Ok wow, that is a bit confusing to me as I am not super educated in the world of Android manipulation. I searched up some info regarding what you told me and it seems flashing will GIVE me gingerbread, but thats what I have already. Also, not sure what kernel or CWM means, sorry!
Thanks for your help though!

I am confused, but I'm not completely stupid... The whole point of this topic is to figure if it's possible to root a SGS4G with Gingerbread. I know the phone came with froyo, but my provider allowed for an offical update TO Gingerbread so I decided to update.

Ok, though the update may not have been official I did it using Kies so I assumed it was, sorry guys. That being said, here's my info:
Model: SGH-T959P
Firm: 2.3.4
Build#: GINGERBREAD.PTLKH2
I don't know if this helps, but the program I used to unlock the first time was called super-one-click (or something similar) and the program installed on my phone is called Superuser. Now it doesn't work the same and other programs say my phone isn't rooted.
Hope this helps, I really appreciate the attention.
The issue that you are having is that you cannot use superoneclick to root GB.
To do this you must flash Dr honks kernel.
Now you are right when you looked it up and it said that you would flash to get GB. You will also flash to get root with GB. It will not replace the whole rom.
In the Dev section there is a post by Drhonk labelled [Kernel][GB][KG4/KG6/KH2/KI1/KI3] Stock Kernel + CWM + Voodoo EXT4 Lagfix.
Grab one of those kernels from his post. Just for ease say you use the new KI3 kernel.
There are 2 options. The Odin version or the CWM version. I really recommend using ODIN. It is easier in my opinion and you should get comfortable with ODIN anyways.
Once flashed you will not have to do anything additional. It will reboot your phone and as soon as its powered up you again will have root access (which will fix your superuser issues you mentioned as well) and give you red CWM.
Are you familiar with using ODIN at all?
no, jiggly, he has the wrong phone.
aannon, this forum is for the T959V, not p. I think you have a fascinate. look up the info on those forums.
never flash a rom from another phone. it will always brick. use odin to restore your phone to T959P stock and go from there.
Thanks for the heads up, I've done some more digging and because my phone is technically called the Fascinate 4G i think it is indeed slightly different. It's a phone from a Canadian provider, Telus and I think it's a bit of a blacksheep. The phone for all intents and purposes is almost identical to your 4G, but it is different enough to require its own software ect... Thanks for the warning! I may have to live with bloatware for now

[Q] Stuck on CWM Recovery Everytime

Hello everyone,
It's my first time witnessing this issue, I do have a Samsung Galaxy S 4G. So I decided to upgraded Eclairs to Gingerbread. Which I did.
Somehow I downloaded the CM7 ROM in the SGS 4G section, I have flashed it and now everytime I click "reboot system now", it's just putting me back to CWM Recovery over and over again. Now I got tired of it, so I tried flashing the SlimBean in hopes of making my device work the way they should, but it's the same result. When I cleared data, flashed the ROM and Gapps and when I click "reboot system now", It shows the boot screen but then it transferred me back to recovery. I don't really know what to do.
Urgent help needed. Thank you all.

Yes I can, also tried it with CM9, same results it shows recovery everytime. I need some help. :crying:
You say you went from Eclair (Did this phone even come with that? I thought it started with Froyo. Huh. At least, mine did.) to Gingerbread. Is the Gingerbread you started with CM7, or did you start with one that actually has normal GB bootloaders first? Because if you haven't yet, as with any major bootlooping issue, you'll want to use a proper GB one-click. If you failed to double-flash one of those to get the GB bootloaders earlier, do that ASAP. And hope hard that they come.
You are missing the boot loader if you went straight to Gingerbread. Use Heimdall One Click to flash to Gingerbread. Also click on the bootloader option as well when you flash.

My Samsung Infuse 4G Can't Flash Custom ROMs, Recoverys or Kernels

Did you try Gingerbread Stock (Option C) yet? That may be the only way to get CWM now. But, depending on your situation, you may need gto flash a newer bootloader as well, something I never thought to find in time for my mirror.

If coming from Froyo, then you will have the Froyo bootloader, which is no good with CWM. You end up with this.
Apparently even Odin'ing a GB stock image doesn't change the bootloader. Worse, a GB bootloader is no longer available for download (link long dead).
Sorry.

Not sure. But I think so. As said before, I only ever had the Rogers one, and it was released with Gingerbread. So I never had to fight that struggle.
But if you have problems, you can always ODIN back to (rooted) stock.
