Hi nishbul.
I have think about this too .
But ,if I remove the lib also ,user will hard to restore the apps.
And ,mainly ,this script is to stop that auto-load apps .
Maybe I will add delete libraries too if I let literom creator gen. restore script .
Anyway ,thanks for comment
Regards,

Great tool! But would it possible to have an option to load the ROM into the tool and select list of bloatware you want to remove and export the script?

Hi Crushader,
It's easy to generate file list from ROM file.
But it's not easy to let literom creator think about which is bloatware.
Hmm.. maybe I will add import function then.Seem useful

I doubt if I should add function that read default db from internet.
So we can switch db ,like n7000-> n7100 more easy.
Or simple create a txt file to store db ,so can import / export.from txt ?
Or ...both of them ? lol
Because this script should work on ALL android system 4.0+ (2.3 too ,but need to modify script-begin)
Maybe there is Moto db ,HTC db and etc.. later

Hi,
Not working on my standard 7100.
BusyBox 1.202 and SManager 2.6.0.2 installed. Stock rom and kernel XXDLL4, JB 4.1.2, root with CF-autoroot from Chainfire.
The script start, mkdir command ok then go to finished, I retry twice, second time mkdir logically failed and same, other commands did not apply (see attachment).
Anyway thanks for your work.

Update.zip 2.0 Modifier/Creator [Script] Drag/Drop Support [Windows]

This script has 2 main uses:
1. Modify an update.zip
2. Create an update.zip
For #1 - You just extract the contents of an update.zip into the placehere folder, modify its contents, and run the script stating to create an update.zip
For #2 - So far these are the options i have in there for create the update-script
1. Copy directories
2. Copy files
3. Create Symlinks
4. Delete file
5. Delete directory
6. Flash boot image
7. Set permissions for file
8. Set permissions for directory
New Features in 2.0 :
- Set java heap size / compression level for zip
- New drag/drop mode.
>>> - If you drag a folder onto the script's icon (as in Script.bat) it will compress the contents of the folder into a zip and sign it.
>>> - If u drag a zip onto the script's icon (as in Script.bat) it will sign the zip for you.
So this script guides u as u select each option, and adds the appropriate command to the update-script file. Then u exit that sub-menu and create update.zip
Heres a video for a better explanation:
This script is a result of me constantly wanting to modify roms before i flash them & users who are unaware/lost as to creating/modifying update.zips.

Awesome Gotta try it out.
I tried using this to just push a single app into /system/app just to see if it would work, but when I try to flash from recovery I get E:Syntax error in update script
when I open my update script it reads thus:
Code:
package_extract_file("LearnPython_1.1.1.apk", "/system/app/Python.apk")
Do you know what the issue might be?

Hmm thats wierd. Can u try placing the file inside a folder withing the placehere folder? N then try it. Tell me if tht works, in meantime ill try a example, perhaps the new changes i made broke something
K i figured it out, i forgot to place a ; after the line. Try placing it and then flashing. Ill fix it.
update-script is now
Code:
package_extract_file("LearnPython_1.1.1.apk", "/system/app/Python.apk");
but I still get a syntax error
Edit: I had also tried putting it in a placeholder file, but that didn't help either, even with the added semicolon
Hmm so something seems wrong with my package_extract_file syntax
Even though ive compared it to online update-script samples. Regardless, for now use the copy directories option instead.

Retry, cuz i just did it and it works fine.
Created a folder app inside placehere folder
placed my apk inside it
Ran the script, chose option 1
Then chose option 1
Then typed DATA
Then typed app
Then typed app
Then typed 9
Then typed 2
Then flashed the update.zip
Letter Casing matters, if it says SYSTEM or DATA , do that dont do data or system.
Btw, first clear out using the script. So when u run it. type y to clear ur previous work.

K i uploaded a fixed one. No file option for now just directory. And added a push to sdcard option. I think wht u were doing was putting it inside a folder and still using the file option.
Yay, it works now. Thank you for creating this and for helping me.

Well the reason i do it on something like mediafire is cuz its not xda dependant and that its one of the few sites with no waiting time for downloads. Plus i get to monitor # of downloads, in order to know if something is in demand, hence ill work on improving that.

Ok, well I've tried both firefox and IE and they both do the same thing. Can you post a mirror because I've never had any problems with mediafire downloads before? I even logged into mediafire and it still gives me this error:
The website declined to show this webpage
HTTP 403
Most likely causes:
•This website requires you to log in.
What you can try:
Go back to the previous page.
This error (HTTP 403 Forbidden) means that Internet Explorer was able to connect to the website, but it does not have permission to view the webpage.
For more information about HTTP errors, see Help.

It works just fine for me too. I just combined Chromatic3.7 rom with httclay's theme by changing the framework.apk and the services.jar files. I also deleted some system apps as well as added a couple of my own. I also put my own bootanimation.zip on there and it works fine.
My first successfull update.zip
Ok so I have messed around with this a lot and I have successfully created a update.zip rom that runs stable. I decided to go with the Chromatic 3.7 rom based off of cm-5.0.8-DS Stable. Feel free to download this and give me your feedback. I take no credit for this rom what so ever. All of the credit goes to Chromersmith and the other devs that made this, not me! This rom is only 1mb larger than the original, about 59mb. What this rom includes:
-reverse nexus style bootanimation (added by me)
-Stock ADWLauncher.apk from cm-5.0.8-DS Stable (has the nexus style launcher, but isn't all themed up. It runs smoother because it isn't as much of a system hog. Added by me)
-apps: Mytouch Music (came with rom not added), 3D Gallery (removed Gallery for same reason), cachecleaner (great for freeing up internal memory), Wireless Tether v2.0.2 for eclair, and of course all the regular stock system apps like YouTube, etc.
And of course you can modify this and re-post your own results as well the same way I did. Isn't that the whole point of this thread?
IMPORTANT! Make sure you read the Chromatic 3.7 thread to get all of the requirements and settings correct after flashing:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=679135
I take no responsibility for anyone that breaks their phone because they don't know what their doing!
And of course enjoy:
http://www.mediafire.com/?1zzhoj32oqw
I just finished my second update.zip
Ok so I put a lot more work into this one than I did the first one. This is based off of the CM-5.0.8-DS Stable rom+gapps. I got sick of having to flash the gapps seperatly after flashing the rom, so I just added them in.
-Added the Multitasking OC Kernel and a lot of other things like a black status bar mod, and a custom ADWLauncher icon.

}
-Added other icons to stock apps like music and a few others that I can't remember right now lol.
-Removed the stock Cyanogenmod boot animation and replaced it with the reverse nexus style one (takes up less memory and boots faster, really fast!). Once you get it flashed and get everything set up, reboot your phone and watch how fast it boots up. Mine boots in about a 30 seconds once the boot animation comes on.
Apps included:
-3DGallery (Default Gallery, removed Gallery to save on internal space)
-CacheCleaner (Good system cache cleaner to free up that internal memory!)
-New Phone.apk added from Chromatic3.7 rom (looks very nice btw)
-Wireless Tether v2.0.2 for Eclair roms.
Requirements:
-Danger SPL or Engineering SPL:
If you do not have these or know what they are then do not flash!
-I highly recommend that you have a swap partition of at least 32mb:
If you want this rom to run smoothly, or enable compcache under spare parts app.
Instructions:
-Do Nandroid backup!!!
-I recommend a wipe if your coming from anything other than cm5.0.8-DS based rom, otherwise, just flash it, and then run fix permissions!
-Download and flash as normal:
It will say welcome to cyanogenmod 5.0.8 DS! Do not be alarmed, this is not a stock version of his rom! I did not want to take the credit away from Cyanogenmod and his team for this rom, since I am using so much of it!
-SetCpu:
Install SetCpu. Run app and select auto detect speeds. The kernel on this rom will allow you to overclock way faster than you should. I can run this stably at 614MHz max, and 245MHz min on ondemand. If you go more than this, your phone will probably lock up, and you will have to pull the battery out just to reboot.
-SpareParts:
After Flashing you must change the clock and date color under spare parts found in the settings menu. I changed everything to white because it's a black status bar, but change to whatever color you wish. Also change the Carrier PLMN label color, and the Carrier SPN label color. The only color I change under the notification settings is the Notifications ticker color. Set window animations and transition animations to fast! Check fancy input animations and launcher in memory.
-ADW settings:
Under sreen preferences set Desktop scrolling speed to 0, it's silly fast! Set Desktop overshoot to 50. Select orientation sensor and auto stretch.
Under UI settings check Hide AllApps Bg and Hide AB Bg, and this will make your launcher look much better. Uncheck scrollable widgets unless you use them. Select whatever else you want, I like to select Hide icon labels and closing dockbar as well. The only one I don't check is the tint ab.
Run Firerats Patch:
Download and run Firerats Patch. This will patch things like facebook sync, enable swap partition, and a lot of other things. Dowload and place the fr-patch133.txt file on the root of your sd card. Go to terminal emulator and type "su" and press enter. Type "sh /sdcard/fr-patch133.txt" and press enter. This will bring up a list of commands for the script, along with an example of how the script works. Everything should install correctly unless your don't have a swap partition on your sdcard then it will not install swap. Everything else should install just fine. Once it finishes type "reboot" and your all done! It will take a long time to boot as it is finishing up all of the installations. Be patient and do not interrupt it by rebooting or powering off your phone!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=348484&d=1277328643
Make sure swap or compache is working in terminal emulator. Type "su" and press enter. Type "free" and enter.
I have put a lot of work into this, so that I can use this as a daily driver rom, until a stable froyo release comes out. This rom is really fast once you get it set up correctly. I mean let's face it, we have no idea how long it will take for froyo 2.2 to be realeased. So until then, let's keep on modding!

[TOOL] Whatsapp Xtract: Backup Messages Extractor / Database Analyzer / Chat-Backup

Have you ever wanted to
- have a useful backup of your whatsapp chats?
- be able to read your whatsapp chats again using a backup file?
- delete the grown-too-big message history of whatsapp without losing the possibility to read the old conversations?
- read older messages without the need of endlessly pressing the annoying "load older messages" button?
- be able to search old messages?
- ...?
Here is a little Tool to display whatsapp chats on your computer, using the database files from your android installation of whatsapp.
It's called WhatsApp Xtract and was created by Fabio Sangiacomo and me.

------------------------
Wish list:
Feel free to take the code and improve it. So maybe we could include some code from this different version which is able to export separate htmls for each chat:
https://github.com/BurakDev/hotoloti/issues/10
------------------------
How to use:
(instrucciones en español / deutsche Anleitung - old)
You need a copy of the whatsapp database and (if no root) get your key.
a) if your Android phone is rooted:
get these files:
/data/data/com.whatsapp/databases/msgstore.db and wa.db
(for this you need root access. detailed instructions in the bottom of this file.
The advantage of having wa.db is that the corresponding contact names of phone numbers will be displayed.)
b) if you have a normal Android (not rooted):
you need this to get the key:
[Tool] WhatsApp Key/DB Extractor | CRYPT6-12 | NON-ROOT
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2770982
then you need the .crypt12 database from /sdcard/WhatsApp/Databases/
then you need a tool like Whatsapp Viewer to decrypt the database file:
Whatsapp Viewer
http://andreas-mausch.de/whatsapp-viewer/
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2719741
The decrypted database can already be viewed in Whatsapp Viewer. If you want the output style from Whatsapp xtract then you can continue with the decrypted file.
c) On IPhone, get this file (don't know if it still works in 2018):
net.whatsapp.WhatsApp/Documents/ChatStorage.sqlite
(You can use an Iphone Backup Tool to get the file, e.g. I-Twin or Iphone Backup Extractor. Make sure to create an unencrypted backup with Itunes, as these tools can't handle encrypted backups. Another possibility are forensic tools like UFED Physical Analyzer.)
Extract this archive (Whatsapp_Xtract....zip) to a certain folder on your computer, e.g. C:\WhatsApp.
Copy the database(s) to e.g. C:\WhatsApp (on Android, you simply copy the whole folder WhatsApp on SD card to your computer e.g. to C:\WhatsApp and then copy the database file from C:\WhatsApp\Databases to C:\WhatsApp)
You need Python
https://www.python.org/downloads/
It's available for Windows, Linux and Mac. However in my HowTo, I focus on Windows.
Now run whatsapp_xtract_android.bat or whatsapp_xtract_iphone.bat
OR simply drag and drop the database file(s) to whatsapp_xtract_drag'n'drop_database(s)_here.bat
OR whatsapp_xtract_console.bat and then manually specify the input file with one of these commands:
COMMAND LINE OPTIONS:
For Android DB:
python whatsapp_xtract.py msgstore.db -w wa.db
OR (if wa.db is unavailable)
python whatsapp_xtract.py msgstore.db
For iPhone DB: (-w option is ignored)
python whatsapp_xtract.py ChatStorage.sqlite
Click to collapse
Once finished, your browser will open and show the chats.
The resulting file size of the .html file will be slightly bigger than the size of the original .db.crypt12 database.

FEATURE REQUESTS:
These features below are quite outdated. For example, conversion/migration from Iphone / Windows Phone to Android was made possible by paid apps (Wazzapmigrator / WinWazzapmigrator).
Anyway, if you want to contribute, please take my source file, put a repo on github and go on!
- Blackberry Support: Step 1 - How is it possible to get the unencrypted messagestore.db file from Blackberry Whatsapp? (valek07); Step 2 - get a sample db file (see how to create sample db) and include Blackberry support
- Nokia Support: Step 1 - How to get the database file from Nokia? (oscargpes) Step 2 - Get a sample db file (see how to create sample db) and include Nokia support
- Windows Phone Support (beastie_carrion): Step 1 - How to get the database file from Windows Phone? Step 2 - Get a sample db file (see how to create sample db) Step 3 - include Windows Phone support
- create an android app for this, ideally offering "export to googlemail" function as in SMS Backup + (nomad4ever)
/ conversion of whatsapp to sms xml (ofmb)
- conversion between Android and Iphone database:
-- Android -> Iphone: ark0n3 is working on a Java tool called WhatsAppMigrator, here you can download WhatsAppMigrator
-- Iphone -> Android: no solution yet
- merge multiple backup files (darKpoiSonend) (you can use the tool SQLite Compare as a workaround, see howto in this post by ztedd)
- extract deleted messages (sometimes deleted messages remain in the database file but can't be accessed with normal Sqlite commands anymore) (Rauken)
- include Iphone support for audio, gps, gps of a place (like a restaurant), group messages and change of group name -> we would need an Iphone sample database containing these message types!
Some Additional Information
General advice on how to backup Whatsapp
Some general advice on how to backup Whatsapp and get the database file:
Android:
- In Whatsapp go to settings - more - Backup Chats
- Copy the folder "Whatsapp" on the SD card to your backup location (e.g., PC)
- (ideally also) use the app Titanium Backup to backup the full whatsapp application together with its data, copy the backup from the folder "TitaniumBackup" on the SD card to your backup location (e.g., PC)
- Use this tool Whatsapp Backup Extractor (download in this thread) to show the chats in a friendly readable format. The necessary files "wa.db" and "msgstore.db" you will find inside the Titanium Backup archive "com.whatsapp-[Date]-[some digits].tar.gz", alternatively (without Titanium Backup) you can use the msgstore.db.crypt file from the folder Whatsapp/Databases on the SD card.
Iphone:
- use Itunes to create an unencrypted Backup
- use an Iphone Backup Tool to get the file net.whatsapp.WhatsApp/Documents/ChatStorage.sqlite, e.g. I-Twin or Iphone Backup Extractor. Make sure to create an unencrypted backup with Itunes, as these tools can't handle encrypted backups. Another possibility are forensic tools like UFED Physical Analyzer.)
Blackberry:
- sync your blackberry with desktop manager and then copy the messagestore.db file from SD
- however, it seems that this file is encrypted? Currently we don't know how to get the unencrypted messagestore.db file
- Blackberry not supported yet!
Nokia:
- not known yet
- Nokia not supported yet!
CHECK IF DATABASE FILE CAN BE OPENED / EDIT CHAT MESSAGES INSIDE DATABASE
You may want to open the decrypted whatsapp database (ChatStorage.sqlite, msgstore.db or msgstore.plain.db) without this tool, e.g. if something goes wrong to check if it can be opened at all or to edit chat messages.
For this use SQLite Database Browser ( http://sqlitebrowser.sourceforge.net/ ).
However it is much more confusing and the messages are ordered by date, not by conversations. Also you won't see the smileys and media files...
IF DATABASE CAN'T BE OPENED: REPAIR DATABASE
Update: This function is now included in Whatsap Xtract 2.1.
If you get an error like this: Error: file is encrypted or is not a database and you tried to open the unencrypted database with SQLite Database Browser but it can't be opened with it, then try the following:
Open the database with Editor, can you see it starts with "SQLite format 3"? Then you may try to repair the database.
Thanks to hape70 for the instructions on how to repair (I translated it from German to English):
- download sqlite3.exe from http://www.sqlite.org/download.html
- start whatsapp_xtract_console.bat and then type:
- echo .dump | sqlite3.exe msgstore.db > Temp.sql
- echo .quit | sqlite3.exe -init Temp.sql msgstore_new.db
- python whatsapp_xtract.py msgstore_new.db
(make sure to replace the underlined msgstore.db with the name of the database that is unencrypted but can't be opened, sometimes it will be msgstore.plain.db)

MEDIA FILES
If you want to watch the videos, audios and images, you can click on the thumbnails and media links. Popups should open displaying the media.
However, online media files are available only for the last ~ 3 weeks.
But you still can open the offline media files, they are linked as well.
For this it is necessary to at first copy the folder "Media" from /sdcard/Whatsapp (Android) or net.whatsapp.WhatsApp (Iphone) to the certain folder of your computer where this tool is installed. Then run the script. Now the media files should be correctly linked.
HOW TO MERGE MULTIPLE DATABASE FILES WITH SQLite Compare
Merging of multiple backup files is still on the feature request list, but you can use the tool SQLite Compare as a workaround, see howto in this post by ztedd.
Worked here!
Thanks a lot!
Glad you can use it!

It won't work with the .db.crypt files from the SD card. You need the unencrypted msgstore.db that you can get from the internal memory, location:
/data/data/com.whatsapp/databases
I guess you will need a rooted android to access this.
I updated the Readme to show 3 different ways how to do this, e.g. using Titanium Backup.
Update 2012-04-28: new version 2.0 supports android whatsapp .db.crypt files!

Here is a little Tool to display whatsapp chats on your computer, using the database files from your android installation of whatsapp.
It's called WhatsApp Extractor and was created by Fabio Sangiacomo on Dec 10, 2011.
blog.digital-forensics.it/2011/12/whatsapp-xtract.html
code.google.com/p/hotoloti/
Preview of the result (old version):
I found the script and realized it didn't work anymore, so I updated it and along that opportunity added some improvements.
So here is WhatsApp Extractor for Android v1.2
Updated on April 5, 2012
Tested with Whatsapp (Android) 2.7.5613
Changelog:
V1.2
- media files also linked to offline files
- corrected hyperlinks
V1.1
- updated database structure, old version didn't work anymore
- show contact names
- show smileys
- show images
- link / popup for images, video, audio, gps
- clickable links
How to use:
Root your android phone or use any other method to get access to the folder
/data/data/com.whatsapp/databases
copy the files "msgstore.db" and "wa.db" to a certain folder of your computer
You can do this by
- using the App RootExplorer (first copy to SD, then mount phone to computer)
- or using adb: open cmd and type "adb pull /data/data/com.whatsapp/databases/msgstore.db C:\Whatsapp" (replace C:\Whatsapp by the location of the certain folder of your computer)
- or using the app Titanium Backup. Use Titanium Backup to backup the full whatsapp application together with its data, copy the backup from the folder "TitaniumBackup" on the SD card to your PC, then extract the files "wa.db" and "msgstore.db" that you will find inside the Titanium Backup archive "com.whatsapp-[Date]-[some digits].tar.gz" to the certain folder.
Download and Install Python python.org/getit/
Extract the attached archive Whatsapp Extractor for Android V1.1 2012-04-05.zip (whatsapp_xtract.py, whatsapp_xtract.bat, folders emoji and sort-table) to the certain folder and run whatsapp_xtract.bat (on windows, other OS different)
Once finished, your browser will open and show you your chats.
The resulting file size of the .htm file will be slightly bigger than the size of the .db database.

I don't suppose there is a video tut to go with this is there? I am finding it hard to follow.. Thanks
For a while now I'm looking for such a tool, for my iPhone. I know this is a Android forum but I was still wondering if it would be very difficult to "adjust" this tool to work for the ChatStorage.sqlite database in iOS?

Yes, there is a possibility. The "old" version of this tool works with Whatsapp for Iphone:
http://blog.digital-forensics.it/2011/12/whatsapp-xtract.html
http://code.google.com/p/hotoloti/
However, it doesn't support the new features yet, that's to say displaying smileys, images, videos, and so on.

The developer Fabio Sangiacomo told me that he is working on a new version of the Iphone Whatsapp Backup Extractor. This will be compatible as well with Iphone and Android Version of Whatsapp databases and will have all the features of my Android Version (e.g., displaying smileys, images, and so on).

Ah, interesting.
Have you tried the 1.0 version of Whatsapp Extractor with your iPhone whatsapp backup files?
I'm about to. But maybe I'll wait till Fabio has come up with his new version.
How to open and convert a crypted whatsapp database backup (msgstore.db.crypt)
CRYPTED WHATSAPP DATABASE
If you only have a backup in the crypted format from /sdcard/WhatsApp/Databases/msgstore.db.crypt then you need to decrypt the database at first.
At the moment, this can only be done by reinstalling whatsapp. If the backup is present in the mentioned folder on the SD, then you will be asked to import the backup. However, the backup can be from a totally different phone number / whatsapp account.
After installing and importing the backup, access the database files as explained above (1. and 2.).
You don't need an android phone for this, can use Bluestacks Emulator for Windows. Make sure to root Bluestacks, using this guide:
http://www.androidfilehost.com/main...ueStacks Beta/HowTo/HowTo Root BlueStacks.pdf
Here it isn't working i have the unencrypted file, placed in the same folder as whatsapp_xtract.py and .bat and three folders, the bat appears for a second and it pop away.
What i'm doing wrong?
Edit: Getting error: This file is encrypted or not a database.
But it isn't a db.crypt file.

Just Place the original rom zip in the original_update folder inside the kitchen.
run the cygwin.exe again type:

cd kitchen(enter)
./menu(enter)
now enter option 1, enter again. You should see your rom listed, choose and enter
you will be asked about changing the working folders name, at this point it makes no difference so just continue.
congratulations you have a working folder!!!
SECOND METHOD - this method is by neroyoung
FIRST MAKE A WORKING FOLDER IN CYGWIN FOLDER
IT SHOULD LOOK LIKE THIS
cygwin folder/home/your user name/kitchen/WORKING_(your rom name)
Click to collapse
NOTE: FOR THIS MEETHOD WE NEED 3 FILES AND FOLDERS TO BE PLACED IN WORKING FOLDER.
1. META-INF FOLDER - GET THIS FROM DOWNLOAD FILES LIST IN FIRST POST
2. SYSTEM FOLDER - TUTORIAL BELOW
3. BOOT.IMG - TUTORIAL BELOW
2. getting system folder
(NOTE - YOU MUST BE ROOTED FOR THIS MEDHOD)
This is universal method and can be done easily using terminal emulator.
For this simply download Terminal Emulator from Android Market.
we need freshly flashed device here. OTHERWISE YOU WILL HAVE LOT OF JUNK FILES.
Open it and type:
su
tar -c system/* >> sdcard/system.tar
Click to collapse
This will copy all your /system folder to your SDcard with name System.tar
This will take some time to finish so be patient.
After it's done you should have a tar file in your /sdcard named system.tar
You can extract it using Winrar or 7zip software. But yes this will have huge size , as it has other useless folders so you will have to delete them. After extracting this system.tar file you will get following folders (Similar one)
/etc
/fonts
/framework
/lib
/lost-found
/media
/sd
/semc
/usr
/xbin
build.prop
And some other files and folders like ""autorooted, kernel files" etc
Click to collapse
Now simply delete the folders marked in red color and its done.Don't worry if you don't have folders with red colors above,we don't need them.
And the final files that we will have in our system folders will be
/app
/bin
/etc
/fonts
/framework
/lib
/media
/semc
/usr
/xbin
build.prop
Click to collapse
If it dont have semc folder no need to worry.
NOTE: YOU CAN ALSO GET THIS SYSTEM FOLDER BY USING ANY ROOT BROWSER. JUST FIND THIS FOLDER AND COPY/EXTRACT TO SDCARD
NOW COPY THIS system FOLDER TO WORKING FOLDER
3. getting boot.img
Here we have 2 options
1. stock boot.img from stock rom - simple kernel which we get in brand new mobile.
2. custom boot.img from custom kernel - kernel which are modified for overclock or other features
1. getting stock boot.img from stock rom.
extract your stock rom with winrar or 7zip. you will see boot.img there. copy it to working folder
2. getting custom boot.img from custom kernel.
download any custom kernel which is only for your device. [galaxy ace plus [s7500] users get from here or here]
extract it with winrar or 7zip and copy boot.img to working folder
NOTE: many of new devices have kernel.bin and other files instead of boot.img so skip this part if your device don't have it...
Click to collapse
Step Three :change/modify/update rom
YOU CAN MODIFY YOUR ROM IN TWO STEPS:
MODIFY USING ANDROID KITCHEN - for basic modification.
MODIFY MANUALLY. - for advanced modification.
1. MODIFYING USING ANDROID KITCHEN
watch this amazing tutorial by neroyoung on how to editing rom with kitchen

2. MODIFYING MANUALLY.
FOR ALL ANDROID PHONES (ESPECIALLY FOR GINGERBREAD ROMS) USE THIS GUIDE FOR COOL MODS. like center clock,CRT animation, ics and jelly bean style mods etc... ANOTHER GUIDE BY ME
Adding/removing applications
1. Go to the working folder where you extracted your rom, inside you will find:
OR
2. Then go to "system/app" inside this folder you will find all the rom applications(apks) you may also find some in the data folder if your rom has this folder.
3. Copy, replace, and change any app(apk) be carefull if you dont know what the apk is do not delete!!
LIST OF APPS YOU CAN DELETE - HERE OR HERE
If you can not find some apps in this guide then try opening all those app in your phone and see app name and icon or move those apps from system/app to sdcard and see what is not working...
Adding new boot animation
android kitchen doesn't works for this in Samsung phones. So we need a different method.
1) Download and extract the bootanimation and samsungani file from Custom Booting.zip attached in first post.
2) Put them in the /system/bin folder and replace the existing files there
3) Now download any boot animation, and rename the bootanimation to “sanim.zip”.
4) Now, navigate to /system/media and replace the “ODEanim” with “sanim.zip”
You are done with the bootanimation change
customizing the theme
1. replace stock launcher with launchers like nova launcher
2. theming using uot kitchen (fonts, status bar, batery and other icons etc

Edit the gps script for your country/location
1. In the workingfolder/system/etc/ you will find a file named gps.conf, you can
edit this file with notepad++ or even word.
2. using the right gps script in this file can speed up gps lock, you can
find some from angeldeath, download extract and replace the gps.conf.
Adding ringtones :
Take your ringtone file...it should be in .ogg format..If not then convert it to .ogg..
Locate to the folder system>media>audio>ringtones>
Copy and paste your .ogg files here in ringtones folder..
You can also change notifications, alarm and UI tones like this..
Changing the Fonts :
Take your desired font.ttf file and rename it as DroidSans.ttf..
Locate to the folder system>fonts>
Now, replace the file DroidSans.ttf with your desired DoridSans.ttf...
To change the lock screen clock font...replace the Clocktopia.ttf with your desired one..(rename first)..
build.prop tweaks!!
check this or this or this post for build.prop
NOTE: EDIT BUILD.PROP WITH NOTEPAD++. SIMPLE NOTEPAD WILL CORRUPT THE FILE.
adding mods and scripts...
download mods and scripts from links below and copy past all files in same folder as your rom... like for init.d scripts add them to system/etc/init.d/here and all permissions in updater script to your updater script...(dont forget to give them credit for it...)

key 114 VOLUME_DOWN
2. Specific application/action launchers:
Code:

BACK #Takes you back to the last activity
SEARCH #Launches "Universal Search"
CALL #Launches the "Phone" activity and corresponding .apk or initiates a call

FOCUS #Initiates Auto-Focus while using the Camera
VOLUME_UP #Self explanatory
VOLUME_DOWN #Self explanatory
3. And attributes saying if it should wake the phone at button push to complete the action, or if it should just complete the action without waking the screen.
Code:
WAKE #Completes the action without waking the screen
WAKE_DROPPED #Wakes the phone to complete the action

2. NOW WE WILL EDIT SECOND AND/OR THIRD ROW
Erase the center row value for any key to completely disable it. To reassign the key, replace the center row value with another one from the same row. Change the right row value to either "WAKE" or blank to enable the wake function. Do not modify the left row.
NOTE: don't edit left row i.e. first row which contains specific key identity number.
FOR EXAMPLE I DO THESE CHANGES
DEFAULT VALUES ---
Code:
key 115 VOLUME_UP WAKE
key 114 VOLUME_DOWN WAKE
CHANGED VALUES ---
Code:
key 115 CAMERA WAKE
key 114 FOCUS WAKE
NOW VOLUME UP KEY WILL WORK AS CAMERA KEY AND VOLUME DOWN KEY WILL WORK AS FOCUS KEY....

the updater-script basically tells CWM what steps to take during the installation(flashing rom).
If you don't have any experience please don't edit anything other than what is in this simple tutorial.
TO EDIT UPDATER SCRIPT -
1.Go to META-INF/com/google/android
2.Open the updater-scrip file with Notepad++
3.Any text that would appear during the CWM install should be in this format :
Code:
ui_print("Put your text in HERE");
Add your text start at top and save,
then replace with new updater-scrip
IF YOU GET ANY ERROR YOU CAN COMPARE YOUR UPDATER SCRIPT WITH MINE (attached in 1st post)
NOTE: DO NOT COPY WHOLE UPDATER SCRIPT JUST EDIT PART WHERE YOU GET ANY ERROR...
most common errors will be in mount, remount part in starting and end and boot.img installing part... so replace only those lines....
AND AT LAST
[*]Now that you have made some changes it's time to pack the rom and test!!
Run the cygwin and type
cd kitchen(enter)
./menu(enter)
Click to collapse
enter option 99 - "biuld rom from working folder"
Choose your build option and few more enters
I recommend that you go with all default options until you get more experience with the kitchen.
When rom is packed and signed it will ask to change rom zip name (type name of your rom)
When its all done you will find a folder inside "cygwin/home/yousername/kitchen" called output_zip
Inside the folder is your new rom ready to be flashed and tested!!!
IF YOU WANT THAN YOU CAN MAKE CWM FLASH ABLE ZIP'S MANUALLY USE THIS TOOL BY I.AM.H3RO
congratulations you have build your own rom
TROUBLESHOOTING (by hell_lock)
If you are facing java related problem with cygwin than refer to this post. and Google search
If you get problems in installing a rom then compare your updater-script in META-INF folder with one attached in first post.
If you have a rom without kernel then remove these lines:
Code:
assert(package_extract_file("boot.img", "/tmp/boot.img"),
write_raw_image("/tmp/boot.img", "/dev/block/mmcblk0p8"),
delete("/tmp/boot.img"));
NOTE: mmcblk0p8 can be different with different devices... this works fine with galaxy ace plus...
If there is a package error then extract the files of the rom and repack them using any compression software.
If rom installed correctly but stuck onto logo screen?? Then remove try removing kernel and flashing rom again.
If rom installed correctly but got onto bootloop then there could be many possibilities which could lead to this. If you want accurate cause of it then do a logcat.
If there are some apk's which are not working then check if you correctly modded them.
For status errors like status error 0, status error 6, status error 7 see this guide by Tha TechnoCrat and for rest go here and type your error.
NOTE: Most of the problems occur because of updater-script problems so before trying any of the troubleshooting try the first tip.
IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR PROBLEMS FEEL FREE TO POST HERE OR PERSONAL MESSAGE ME.

Had a quick read through, seems fairly easy to get started, so thanks for that!
What I want to achieve is to be able to take an existing ROM, and customise it for my organisation. I want to be able to remove the initial set up that you get when you flash a new ROM, e.g. name, Google account etc. Do you know how I would achieve this, or the files I would need to edit?
I also want to remove some APKs and preload some APKs, I think I know how to do this its just a case of replacing them in the system folder?
Also I want to preload some Wifi settings on so set it to know our SSID and PSK, is this something which is possible?
Thanks for your help!

1st for rom you will use as base, get permission of its developers before doing it...
2nd the setup wizard you are talking about(i guess where we have to touch android) is by app in system/app named SetupWizard.apk but i think you should not delete it. it also controls few other things.
3rd replace/delete app you know about...(system/app)
4th i don't know much about preloaded settings... all i know is you will need to edit smali files of apk....
Hi
I've been playing around with this, I've extracted the ROM to a working folder and made a few changes, e.g adding and removing APKs. Then I've repackaged the ROM, but when I copy the .zip onto my SD card and try flashing it, I get an error:
Install /sdcard
Finding update package
Opening update package
Verifying Update package
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted
I can't install CWM on this device so its just using the Android System Recovery 3e
Is there something else I have to do to get it flashable?
hiii
okay.. so first get cwm recovery as you say you dont have cwm... then while making a zip with android kitchen make sure when it ziplangs all apks then it signs your rom zip... make sure you press enter or press y and then enter...
while flashing rom with cwm you get this error again then in 'ïnstall zip from sdcard' select 'toggle signature verification' then try again if still no luck rply back....
and it seams like you used this guide and you found it helpful i guess and you dint even pressed a thanks button... i don't know why you guys enjoy all stuff and don't even press thanks button.. i am not asking you for money... it wont cost you anything...

Thanks for this, I've got it sorted now.

How to install:
Open folder where you installed Total Commander (To me it was c:\totalcmd) and make directorium "Plugins" there. Enter it, and unpack content of adbplugin.zip there (this is from Android ADB download you did before). After that in Total Commander open Configuration>Options>Plugins then click on Configure beside F"ile system plugins (.WFX)." Then click on "Add", and browse to your "Plugin" folder. There will be two files: ADBPlugin.wfx (x86 version) and ADBPlugin.wfx64 (x64 version). Choose one that is same with version of Total Commander that you installed. Hit "Open". In next window hit "Ok". Go out of Configuration. And you are done.
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Now we will run it.
Go to this dropdown menu from image and select Network Neighborhood, then duble click on ADB. If your phone is recognized there will be another "Folder" with Android icon and some numbers and letters. Double click on that too. And you entered your phone.
Some notices:
1. Do not mess around with files that you do not know what is it for.
2. I am not responsible if you mess up something. Like "I deleted modem folder, do not have nework anymore!!! I will kill the maker of this guide!". I am not pushing you to do anything, I am just made tutorial how to manage files on your System easier.
What you can do with this plugin:
Copy files to your internal/external memory;
Push apps in System/app;
Make backup;
Do a logcat;
Make screenshot;
Enter ADB shell...
If you do not have access to the System folder you will have to mount it in shell. Open .shell in this plugin and write this:
Code:
mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 /system
And hit enter.
Or if you want easy way for this, install this app.
Open it and hit Mount r/w, and then try again in Total Commander.
WARNING: DO NOT ERASE CUSTOM THINGS IN HERE, YOU WILL END UP WITH BRICKED PHONE. By that I mean folders that are not System, and some that you allready know that you should delete, copy or replace files there.
Lot of new users do not know to make a LOGCAT when some developers ask them to do it. It's purpose is to provide log that will help developer to find error that you have. So with this plugin it is easy to get it. How? Open folder named ".logcat" and copy txt file from there to your hard drive. And there you have it. Zip it, upload it and bring it to developer.
When you doubleclick ".power" you will get extended power commands, like reboot in download mode, reboot in recovery etc.
".screenshot" provide a screenshot of current screen content of your phone. It saves file where screenshots are saved when you use hardware buttons on phone too.
I will update this tutorial as it comes to my mind what could I add. I am open to suggestions too.
Most parts of this are written by me, and I am sorry if my english is not so good.
Feel free to hit thanks if this was helpful for you. I will not kill you for that.

-build-in editor work great with adb-plugin (ideal for quick build.prop editing)
-setting permissions from TC file menu
-compare directories, even within zip files (no need for manual unpacking and repacking when coocking rom)
-compare files (ideal for looking errors, no matter is it decompiled framework.res or build.prop)
-background operations for those long or multiple transfering
-multiple tabs save time when switching between dirs
I am TC user from times he was Window Commander, and i must say: he who learn how to use it to full potencial, will hate to open even "My Computer" icon when it's even simple copy-paste operation.
With this adb plugin, my experience with android file managment have come to a totaly new level...
And yeah, there is total commander for android too, free on play store.
TQ.

Backup & Restore via TC
Hi,
I am also a TC fan.
Have you ever used the Backup & Restore feature of ADB through TC? Please share your experiences. We can backup only the apps right? Can we make a system image of the phone? You know what I mean?

Hm, I never tried it. And it should be on IceCream Sandwitch. I check new version on its site, and it is still written ICS. I will try it when I get time.

When i tried backup option, it didn't work. But i'm on GB (i'll test it with ICS in the future).
For backups i use clockworkmod recovery, so that's why i don't use that option
If you want to backup apps, just copy /system/app or /data/app folder to other window in TC (and you can copy apk files to /system/app or /data/app - just make sure to give all apk files 644 permission)
Making system image of the phone, as you asked, can't be done so easily by just copy files to phone. It is not just files, but all files/folder have their permission value. Sinse there are hundreds folder/files to copy and set permissions individually, it is just not worth the time.
But if you have Clockworkmod or TeamWinRecoveryProject on your phone, making flashable zips is much easier.
I did manage to make flashable ROM this way by copying whole /system folder. Ofcorse, you can't just copy it back because of android/linux permission and symlink things - that's why custom ROMs come with updater-script who have commands to symlink busybox files and set permissions for files that needs them.
I use TWRP for backups. I am just interested if TC can incorporate this functionality through ADB.
It would be a nice accomplishment.

I don't think TC adb plugin can handle CWM/TWRP backups. Or i am not aware of it...
Would be nice feature for sure...
Just to share my experience...
I found this thread because I was looking for a fast way to mirror my Nexus 5's storage without using the ADB shell to handle a single dir at a time. The MTP xfer is (a) slow and (b) fails to copy LOTS of stuff from the SD card (TiBu's backup directory, various app data folders that the apps have tried to protect, etc). I also wanted to get the CMWR partition backups off of the phone in case I bricked the thing while reinstalling a factory image.
I installed Total Commander and the ADB plugin, replaced all the plugin's binaries with the latest versions from the android SDK, and crossed my fingers. It works pretty well! I am getting about 5MB/s pulling from the phone. That's twice as fast as with MTP (plus I can pull from /data/media/) and three times as fast as using Root Explorer to copy to a mounted windows share via SMB (the only solution I'd found prior -- and still a decent solution if there's wifi but no USB available).
I still wish I knew a way to get some full-speed USB2/3 or WIFI file transfers happening.
i got a error when i try to copy file to my phone with TC
said please remove write protect
anyone know what's wrong?
i can adb push file to anywhere of my phone (/sdcard/ ,/system/....)
(sorry for the previous swearing language... gonna repeat politely):
SO.... I can't understand.... WHY
OH MY GOD...
WHY on EARTH this isn't the MOST DISCUSSED / IMPROVED / UPDATED feature on the entire Android WORLD?
can anyone explain it ?
WHY on EARTH are people still using /COMMAND-LINE ADB for copying files ?
I can't understand it....
It stopped working here.... I'm sad....
Also, the BEST PROGRAM OF ALL ---> Beyond Compare stopped working too...
I used like 20 times a day, to synchronize my PC files between my 32gb sd card (it's BY FAR, the MOST USEFUL TOOL OF ALL)
I think it's a Driver issue.... (but in this case I have to put the blame on Motorola and/or Windows....)
it stopped working for me after some FW update (5.1.1)
constantly drop off connection, also when I copy some files it is possible that several files didn't copied..
I didn't chahnge any drivers etc. just FW.
since that time it works very bad via Total Commander.
I've heard that this plugin (and ADB itself) is not for sync data - what does it mean ? It is not for copying files from/to phone ?
wrong thread place
This thread is definitiv in the wrong place !! - It needs to bee in Android General Thread !
I use this Plugin in Total Comander for two years - its the best
it's indeed (BY FAR) one of the most amazing PC Tool for Android!
Shortcuts
Does anybody know how to create shortcuts to files/folders with this plugin?

• It has other features too, such as resizing On-Screen Buttons, enabling/disabling CRT screenOff animation, enabling lockscreen rotation, etc...
• It has the ability to create recovery flashable zips to install your custom framework and revert changes if you want to.
How to use it
• After you have installed the toolkit launch Automated_Framework_Kit_vXX.cmd
• You must have JDK installed on your machine in order to use AFK/Workbot.
• Browse for your framework-res.apk
• Choose the options you want from the graphical menu.
• When done customizing your framework hit Finish/Compile.
• You will br prompted to create recovery flashable zips.
• Collect your goodies from #collect-your-goods-here folder as always.
• Whatever follows is up to you.

\\Workbot//About Workbot
• It's a time-saving script that does what AFK does in much less time because:
- It has no graphical interface.
- It does not require user input.
- It works according to pre-defined settings stored in Settings.ini under Workbot_Settings section.
How to use it
• Launch Workbot.cmd
• Check the displayed settings, if you agree on these settings hit Y to continue.
• If you don't agree on the settings hit N to edit.
• After you get through the first page, drag and drop your framework-res.apk inside the black window and hit enter.
• Watch the magic happen in less than a minute (20s~40s if you have a decent PC)
○ You can just drag and drop your framework-res.apk on top of Workbot.cmd and the bot will do the work instantly based on the stored settings.
○ It is recommended to use Cleanup script when you are done, be careful! your goodies will be erased.
Click to collapse
\\Stylist//About Stylist
• It's a simple script with a simple graphical interface.
• Its job is to skin your On-Screen Buttons with various button styles and colors.
• It stores more than 50 different styles with various colors.
How to use it
• Launch Stylist.cmd and drag and drop your SystemUI.apk inside the black window
○ Or, just drag and drop your SystemUI.apk over Stylist.cmd
• In, the menu press Preview to have a look at each softkey style
• Switch through pages using the buttons in the bottom right corner.
• Click on the style you like and you will be prompted for confirmation.
• After you confirm your choice, the script will mod your SystemUI.apk and generate recovery flashable zips in seconds!
• Collect your goodies from #collect-your-goods-here folder as always.
○ It is recommended to use Cleanup script when you are done, be careful! your goodies will be erased.

still does not work for me
Admin rights are not needed, and will also make the script loose the files around it like your running the script from another folder.
Try editing settings.ini and change USEMOUSE=1 to USEMOUSE=0, if it still does not work let me know. I never had these problems when testing the script, just remember no shortcuts and no "run as admin"
Quick fix [hopefully]

Well here's a quick fix for you, I compiled the BATCH file into an executable so it doesn't loose its path when you run the tool as admin, just copy the exe file inside the app folder and run it as admin instead of the old batch file.
I also recommend placing the app in a short path with no spaces; Example: C:\AFK

Dear Mr.Themike
Firstly, I thank you for your good work.
'Android 4.x only' means, will it work for 4.0.3 ?
I have Dapeng A9230+, running on Custom ICS 4.0.3.
I successfully made framework flashable files through your great guide. But after flashing through recovery, nothing changes. sorry.... there is no Navigation bar.
I think, something wrong myside ?
Best regards.

I tested this tool on ICS 4.0.4 and I think it should work fine on 4.0.3, so here's a tip for you:
Choose Enable Navigation Bar in the app menu, after it's done minimize the app window and go to [dec] folder>[framework-res.apk]>[res]>[values] and look for bools.xml and open it with and XML editor or just wordpad, look for a string that looks like this one:
<bool name="config_showNavigationBar">true</bool>
If it's there than it's okay and everything is good
Now go again to the app menu and set the NavBar dpi to whatever you like ( 0 disables NavBar )
then go again to [dec]>[framework-res.apk]>[res]>[values] and look for dimens.xml and open it and check if the dimensions you set are right.
After that compile the apk and flash it, If all the previous work is done properly and no errors but still the NavBar doesn't exist then it's beyond my capability to analyse Wish u luck

Dear Mr.Themike,
Thanks for your Reply.
Bools.xml and dimens.xml, everything is perfect as you told. But after decompiling and flashing, there is no navigation bar. I have one doubt. What size we have to give for nav bar ?.(wvga screen).
If I give 37, it takes 37 for both 'height and width'.
Then, If my Rom is in 190 lcd density, the given size will work ? Or I have to be in system standard lcd density (240) for all nav bar sizes ?
Ok. Anyway, for the present Ics Rom, I have no success.... maybe Rom framework not compatible.
I have to try Other Ics and Lewa Roms.(for miui, I have working framework, which has nav bar).
Best Regards.
