Which version of super user for root - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Hey guys I have successfully rooted my att onex 2.20 via the new root method. I also have install twrp recovery. Now what version of super user do I download from their website so I can flash it to my device? The arm or the x86?

Stop right there. Did you see a superuser.apk for download on this forum? DON'T GO AROUND FLASHING RANDOM CRAP! If it's not in this forum (att one x and one xl) it's not for your phone.
If you're rooted you already have it installed. Check it with an app called root checker.
If it says you're not rooted, flash a custom ROM (that you found in the dev section) and you will be.

Just get it from the play store. Once you're rooted, no need to flash superuser from recovery.

Are you on stock with twrp installed?
I believe it was a temp root, so root is gone after you reboot, but it allowed for a permanent boot loader unlock.
you will need to flash an su binary package and then download a superuser app from the play store.
Or go flash ViperXL or something
If you are on a custom Rom it is rooted

I agree. Just flash a stock rooted rom from the development section of our at&t one x forums. You often get a few other minor tweaks for free too.

It says fail when flashing. What do I do now?

I figured as much. It's a CWM zip.. which is why I said to make a backup. I couldn't find a twrp. I'll keep looking

Success!!!! When I tried to install supersu from the mark though it couldn't update the binaries. So I had to install superuser then run supersu and grant it root permission from superuser so that it could update. Then after it update I uninstalled superuser. I decided to add that just in case someone else finds it usefull.

I am in the process of rooting my phone. I have flashed the vralec bootchain and installed the custom recovery. I chose CWM Touchwiz. The issue I am having is the recovery claims there is no .zip file with the superuser and unlocked bootloader. I have tried moving the file around on the sdcard to no avail. I also dled the filed directly to my phone from the guide. What should I try now?
Should I try a different recovery?

I had the same problem when I tried this originally so I went with TWRP and then my problem was solved. It takes a little while to track down the zip as it could be in a /sdcard/0/ or /storage/extSdCard/0/ directory folder, but you should be fine if you look in those. Hope this helps!:good:

Download "Root Checker" from the Play Store. It will show you whether or not you are rooted.
I may be mistaken but if you have Super User or Super SU installed you've achieved root. At least, that's what I looked for to make sure the root took.

You can always open up a terminal emulator and type su. If the $ turns into a # and or superuser pops up and asks for permissions, then that means you're rooted.

[Q] phone still not rooted after running all-in-one toolkit

I ran the all-in-one toolkit v2.0 to root my at&t htc one x but my phone is showing not rooted. I followed all the steps and successfully unlocked the bootloader then proceeded to flash the TWRP recovery. When I try to run apps that require root my phone says it's not rooted. I downloaded RootChecker app from the playstore and it says phone is not rooted. Did I miss a step or do something wrong?
Did you flash the super user application? Perm root.... Just because you unlocked the bootloader doesnt mean you've gained full and permanent root access.
Many roms now come with that permission/app bundled inside. The toolkit has that function and I believe its the in the bottom right portion of the kit.
Sent from my HTC One XL using Tapatalk 2
Yeah, after your push supersu.zip to root dir, you have to boot back into twrp recovery, press install, find supersu.zip and apply it.

ToxicWaste, I did click on the Perm Root in the toolkit but never applied the supersu from the recovery menu like nespid mentioned in his reply to the thread. I followed those steps and my phone is now rooted. Thank you both very much. Your help is much appreciated.
Would unlocking the bootloader and flashing supersu from recovery work on the new Rogers OTA Jelly Bean update? Any side effects, such as not being able to do another OTA update, etc.?
I intend on staying with the stock rom (Sense, etc), but want to remove some of the carrier bloatware, and boot logo.

I think there's only one way to find out at the moment. You'd be our canary in the mine, on this one. I haven't seen any threads for Rogers JB root/unlock. Might be a while before there's an exploit. Let us know if you come across anything or try it out yourself.
And rooting and unlocking doesn't necessarily prevent you from getting OTA updates. Although,a future OTA is likely to cause lost root.

No root after installing a stock rom

First of all I am new to all of this, but I recently flashed turge's new sense 5 stock Rom. The Rom is nice but I want to go back to my old cleanrom 6.5. But now it seems my phone is not rooted. I can get into bootloader and it still says 'unlocked' but I can't get my computer to recognize my phone via fastboot usb.
You can just install root, I'm on the same ROM and rooting it was easy. Download Superuser from Play Store, open it, it'll prompt you to update binaries, choose TWRP/CWM method. It'll do the rest for you.

I tried that but superuser gives me a prompt about the binaries and that 'this is a problem'. I did not check the md5, the Rom seems to be working well but eventually I would want to get back on a rooted Rom but like I said in another post, I'm not sure how i lost access to fastboot usb. Thanks for the help.

Some how I lost root while mucking around trying to change recovery for beanstalk 4.4. I never did get it changed since I had computer issues.

It was a CWM one in the Beanstalk 4.4 forum...was going to flash via adb, BUT I never did it because once I got into
fastboot computer stopped recognizing the phone so I gave up on it.
When flashing any recovery, make sure its the one intended for our device (EVITA not ENDEAVORU) as this is a common mistake. Although, it sounds like your problem was something different.
The official CWM is fine to use (I was using it for a while) although TWRP is more commonly used on this device. On TWRP, if the ROM you are flashing is not rooted, it will give you the option to root it when it flashes, which is pretty nice.

What is eu.chainfire.supersu.MainActivity Emblem?

This process is important? I was deleting SuperSU and in says that if I delete SuperSU I will delete this file too...
If you're unrooting, you don't need to keep it.
Ok, thanks.

I already told you.
Ok, I've read your thread about how to upgrade to Lollipop the Nexus.
The fact is that my main pc have no working USB ports, so if I want to unlock the bootloader and stuff like this I have to use my second pc, and it is very slow (the last time to just fastboot a factory image it tooks me one hour of suffering).
I think that the method 2b is the one that is closest to my situation:
1. Unlock bootloader if necessary (This wipes data)
2. Accept OTA update
3. Fastboot flash a custom recovery image (of your choice)
4. Fastboot flash a custom boot.img (@Chainfire for basic root, @sykopompos for full permissive mode)
5. Flash from recovery, SuperSU

I don't want root, so:
2. Accept OTA update

If I have understood, the only thing that I have to do is use flashify to flash the OTA checker zip. file and than proceed with the OTA, right?
If there is another way to do this without use the PC, it will be great, but I don't know.
Is what I said right or I forgot something?
Thank you with your help anyway!
