And yes, after you flash the ROM of your choice, you will be able to install applications like normal. I highly suggest purchasing Titanium Backup Pro to ease restoration of your programs in between flashes.

[Q] Flashing a custom ROM the official way?

Is it not possible to code a custom ROM so as to then flash it the same way an official ROM is flashed?
Greetings, fellow Oklahoman.
What do you mean "the official way"? RUU? PD98IMG.zip?

Hi. Thanks for the reply. What I mean is how an official ROM is flashed when an upgrade is issued. A notice is given that there is an upgrade and you download and install the upgrade. Can a custom ROM not be installed this way? Rather than having to go through the process of rooting the phone and then flashing one of the available custom ROMs. I would think it would be possible to issue a rooted ROM as an upgrade flash.
Wow. U must be truly a noob. The only way u can flash a custom rom is that u have to be rooted and have s off achieved first. And once u achieve that, you are talking about an over the air update. Which that only can happen from an unrooted totally stock phone. The only thing that comes close to that is an update from rom manager, in which u have to be rooted first before rom manager will work properly, which will download and install a custom rom of your choosing.
In other words, you have to be rooted and s off in order for u to do anything outside of stock

I think the OP was asking if its in anyway possible to flash a custom rom via RUU not OTA. In the same way that ROMS for Samsung devices can be cooked to flash via ODIN as opposed to CWM...

Find a browser that supports Arabic.. Just don't use stock. There are some custom roms on here that actually hive you Arabic characters throughout the rom. However, of course you need to root.

if you know what you are doing, yes, you can bypass root and go into download mode and flash using odin.
I'm not sure what you mean by not rooting.
Once you flash a custom ROM, more than likely, it will be rooted.
If you want the OTA from Samsung, you will have to odin your phone back to stock froyo UCKD5 2.2.1. I think it will connect, although I have not tried it myself.
All i wanna to know the installtion of firmware with odin just like Galaxy sII
By open odin and select PDA and make my phone on download mode and click start on odin
Just that or not? Because that all i can do
I did it before with sgs2

I don't have an sgsII, so I couldn't advise you correctly.
Odin on the Infuse can be use to flash a stock firmware and kernels.
I don't think there are too many custom ROM packages that is design for flashing using Odin.
Most users here uses Odin to bring their phone back to stock when they have a problem...not to flash a custom ROM.

I'm not familiar with the Infuse international capabilities.
You can try unlocking the Infuse and run it using a local provider.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1081072
Bottom line: If your stock ROM does not support Arabic and a custom ROM supports it, you will need to change out the stock ROM.
c'est la vie, mon frere.
edit: rooting does not kill the phone.

Help a noob

So i recently got an galaxy s2 skyrocket and performed my first android root using the skyrocket easy root zergrush app.
I am running stock 2.3.5 and am on ATT . The only things i have done is install the COM, froze the tether, and un installed a few bloatware items
My question is...
How would i restore this to stock? Un root and all?
Also how would i install 2.3.6?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
2.3.6 got pulled, so you'd have to install a custom rom.

If you rooted using DoomLord's method, then use this.

For 2.3.6 I would flash Silver's zip for the rom. You will need CWM.

Fellow noob
So I'm fairly new to android as well, I would highly suggest taking a look this thread goes over rooting, kernals roms and going back to unroot...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1427268
Then a couple of the apps that have really helped me out are Titanium Back up and Rom Manager. Makes flashing roms very easy, between easily flashing CWM and rebooting into CWM with just a click. Then TB with it's auto backup's and being able to quickly restore when you've flashed that new rom. (I paid for both of these apps, so I'm not sure what features the free versions have)
I flashed to Silvers rom to get to 2.3.6 and it's working great, was very easy to do!
Anyways, hope this helps!

Question about custom Rom

Hello Guys
I have a Samsung S5830i phone with Gingerbread.XXLI1. I have rooted the phone successfully. I want to installed RazerDroid Rom. The link is as follows :- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1816611. It says that it can be installed from Stock Rom. Is XXLI1 Stock Rom???
Please advise.
Hello girish78,
as far as I know is this the latest Stock Firmware.
I'm new to this but if I'm not mistaken, it depends on the baseband version the rom is based on. Even though yours XXLI1 and its stock, i think there are many more with stock roms for your phone with different baseband versions. I think you should try to ask the developer of the rom to avoid any problems.
Sorry if this wasnt helpful.

Is your cwm fully working? Check if it can back up and restore, back up your rom then restore it. If it works then i think it will be ok to install the rom because you have a back up incase anything goes wrong. Remember, there are still risks involved. I went to the link and done some reading, theres no baseband info specified. Goodluck buddy:thumbup:

Rafael Baugis Kernel Update
Hi All
I want to update the kernel and the process mentions me to install boot.img, then install Rom and then install the module. Check this thread.

Cannot I just install the module to update the kernel????
Please advise.
Its generally a good idea to follow the instructions given by the developer it might work for you if you try it your way but it would really suck if it doesnt. follow the given instructions rather:thumbup:

Rafael Baugis kernel update
Friends
Please advise me as to how to update the latest Rafael Baugis kernel. Please help!!!!!

Simple Instructions Needed Please

Ultimately what I am trying to accomplish is to install SlimBean ICS on my friends Froyo Galaxy. (I am a Motorola Guy)
From my understanding you need to go to Ginger first. Easy enough, use Kies.
Next I need to install CM, this is where I am getting lost. Do I need to install 7 (GB) before I can install 9 (ICS)?
How do I install CM on this device? Totally lost because there are so many extra steps.
Lastly there is install SlimBean once CM is installed which is easy enough via CWM.
First question is, are you using a Galaxy or Galaxy S 4G? They're different.
Second, skip KIES, use a one-click. Flash once, reboot, Linda, Flash with bootloaders.
Then you can move on to the fun of ICS.
Please remove the battery from the phone and verify that the model for the phone is either
SGH-T959V
or
SGH-T959W
Those are the only phones the files on this forum are meant for! Reply with the model here so we can direct you to the right forum if your friend's phone is different than the Galaxy S 4G
