I am coming from the SGS Fasciante, so am quite familiar with all this flashing and stuff...but I just (FINALLY) got my upgrade to the SGS3 and I wanted to make sure of a few things before i go messing around.
I have rooted and unlocked and installed recovery...root works fine..even AdFree app works...
Using pure stock rooted..no rom has been flashed...Android 4.0.4 IMM76D.I535VRALHE
I remember reading somewhere that this phone now has some checker built in that will give an error that "Unauthorized software detected"...or something...if you modify the os too much...
Is this still true...? I want to remove or freeze the crap apps that come with the phone, but don't want it lock up the phone on me...Is it better to delete the app, or use a freeze program...any suggestions?
What about OTA updates with this phone?...do I need to be concerned about that... will it one day just deiced to update and i loose root etc....
Also, I flashed the DSP Manager.zip i used on my Fasciante..and it is working..most of the time...doesn't seem to affect Amazon MP3 like it did on the Fascinate...DSP Manger also won't stay on a lot...keeps reverting to stock sound quality....keep having to start stop player app and tweak DSP app to get it to tun back on...any ideas...?

You should only get the "unauthorized software detected" message if you attempt to flash a custom kernel (Or ROM that contains a custom kernel) when you haven't unlocked your bootloader, the latest version of ez unlock (1.4 I believe) will tell you it unlocked the bootloader and flashed a insecure aboot. Check out this guide and this guide for apps that are safe to remove or freeze on your phone (If you think you may need the app again sometime just freeze it rather then remove it that way if you need it latter you can unfreeze), also pay careful attention to the guides and make a backup before removing or freezing any apps. I personally use Titanium Backup for any application freezing or removing needs. If your running the stock Verizon ROM and your rooted there is always the possibility of them pushing an update along that breaks root (Fortunately you can restore a CWM or TWRP backup when you did have root, or use odin to restore the factory image). Further more, an awesome app by the name of OTA RootKeeper allows you to keep root even if Verizon issues a OTA update. I'm guessing DSP manager and Samsung's music player equalizer options may be interfearing with eachother causing the issues you mentioned. Technically this version of DSP Manager is for the international GS3 but it should still work on our Verizon version (As always make a backup before flashing anything). Plus not all parts of the Fascinate DSP Manager zip may be compatible with the Verizon Galaxy S3 once again causing you random problems. Well hope I helped let me know if you need more help .
About DSP manager...work fine in all players..including the Samsung player for flac files..but not for mp3...I did find winamp player works perfectly though with dsp manger I flashed..will have to try the one u linked to...
Edit: no change..appears to be the same zip...o well..winamp player for me...not as nice as the Samsung one...but...yea..want the better sound...

I agree, while the Samsung music player has a couple cool features and awesome UI most of the features seem kinda gimmicky like the sound alive settings, like you said I personally would stick with winamp, which is still a realy soild music player and the great sound and customization of DSP manager.

Yea..now that i can transfer my media player to the SGS3, my Fasicante officially gets retired..
There is only 2 other things with he SGS3 I am annoyed with at the moment:
Email and Gmail apps are ugly white versions...(special Touchwiz version I assume)I am not sure if there are blacked out versions of these for stock...I tried adding in the Email and Gmail .apk I was using from ICS for the Fasciante...but it wouldn't work....may just need to find another app from the market...
There doesn't seem to be any settings to adjust the toggles on the notification drop-down....don't need some, and want to add brightness toggle.......

You should considering rooting your phone and installing CM 10 or AOKP they both have customizable quick toggles and inverted gapps for gmail and you can get regular inverted email too.

flash a custom touchwiz rom such as beans and there should be a quick panel settings in your app drawer to adjust the toggles. Same thing for aosp...also you know where there is a guide wink wink if you need any instructions for rooting, unlocking, and flashing!

I probably will...eventually...but I want to keep stock as much as possible...maybe once the final release of JB for this device is out...and the bugs are worked out.
Use titanium backup to freeze ur apps... Great program, should be mandatory for root users and ROM flashers (imo) . As far as what to freeze, general rule of thumb, dont freeze anything that starts with com or has andy the android as the icon. Be careful freezing any launchers and definately make a nandroid backup prior to any freezing.

I was looking for this thread yesterday. I went looking for a comprehensive list that I knew existed but couldn't find my way back to this lol. This was in the Jellywiz thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31545527
Not my list, and I haven't tried everything to see what kind of results happen on what so play at your own risk and I would suggest backing up every single app you remove.

Hi guys. I got my hands on some DI14 files from the Mesmerize and decided to cook up a ROM. This ROM is very lightweight (removed as much touchwiz stuff as I could), and is very similar the version I have released for the Fascinate.
[warning]THIS IS ONLY FOR THE USCC MESMERIZE!!! DON'T FLASH ON ANY OTHER PHONE!!! IF YOU DO, I WILL LAUGH AT YOU!!![/warning]
Features:
Latest versions of :
Google Maps
ADWLauncher
Google Voice
Google Street View
Superuser
YouTube
Aosp or additional apps:
DeskClock
FileManager
Gallery3D
Mms
Music Player
Other stuff:
bash / bmlunlock / busybox / nano / redbend_ua / strace binaries are included
fully functional terminfo for bash
lots of extra ringtones/sounds pulled from aosp
SGS boot and shutdown animations
LOTS of stuff removed, don't have a list, sorry.
Also included in the package is a custom kernel, which allows use of aosp style bootanimations (among other things) and has been optimized for speed and reliability. - kernel has been removed
Enjoy.

WARNING: I do not have a Mesmerize so I cannot test anything myself. This ROM has been tested by a few people, but, if you have issues try wiping data, otherwise, please let me know of any bugs. Thanks.
testing now...
Flashed this a few minutes ago. Seems much snappier than stock. JT, can't thank you enough. I'll report back after I've used it a bit.
~Sophos
about to test it thanks
seems to work well the lock screen seems quicker but im having some pauses when in some apps. was wondering the name of the twitter and facebook feed app that comes standard on mesmerize liked that app but found it was missing in this rom
8hrs and going well. Couldn't get custom boot animation or BLN to work with kernel update so I flashed back to the 1130 kernel. Once I finish the final touches on this boot animation I'll upload it.

They are missing because they are bloat. Hence the "Super" in Super Clean ROM. The less in it from the start, the cleaner the build. There can and will be variations to this ROM, I'm sure, now that JT has been kind enough to give us a starting point. The pauses you are experiencing, I believe, are writes. When a ROM is deodexed, the .odex files are placed back into the apk for various reasons, including themes, causing the system to have to have to perform a few extra writes to cache. This should speed up as you use your phone. As I said, I believe this is correct, but I'm still learning so this may not be exactly what is happening. In testing the previous builds, I noticed the same thing and that this went away with use.
The only thing that I see as an issue is BLN doesn't appear to work. Oh well. Maybe in a future build.
Any way to get the original messaging working i like the way it shows the messages and maybe your navigator from uscc.

All stock deodexed apk's located here http://ge.tt/3mWj9TK in a zip file. Files are not necessarily named the same in apk form as in the app drawer. Also, not all apk's are apps from the app drawer.
As usual, use at your own risk. Make a backup before you use.... yada yada yada.

Thanks... I'm looking through and I can't find two apps, not sure if they're there, or if they are, what the actual .apk names are... First is the stock Messaging app and the second is the My Navigator app. Not a huge fan of the messaging in this rom, if I can restore an apk to get back what it was like I'd be much happier.

Stock messaging app is mms.apk, but we are having a problem trying to get it back in the ROM. It seems to be the only one that doesn't want to go back in at this time, but it is being looked in to. My Navigator is USCC_Samsung_Galaxy_S-1059.apk I believe. I know it is one of the ones with USCC or uscellular in it.
i am 99.9% sure it wont
but does the wii mote work now? or is there any hope hat it will at some time
This is a [HOW-TO] guide to making your Droid Charge the perfect smartphone(by that I mean music, movies, texting, calls etc). I'd say the main purpose of the thread is to just let people know of some awesome apps and settings to use if you'd like the perfect phone(well, I can't change the atrocious amount of RAM, sorry). Keep in mind this is going to be quite the read but I can guarantee there is some nice info for even the most learned Charge owners. As always, if you found this post at all helpful just hit the thanks button to show your appreciation.
1) First thing's first, you're going to want to flash Clockwork(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1112804) so you can flash tons of other awesome stuff later. If you ever have a question when doing anything root/ROM related you can either follow this guide(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122657) OR just ask a question below.
2a) Next you're going to want to use CWM to flash your kernel so you can get rooted. You have 3 choices here; PBJ(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1104634), PBJ non-voodoo(same link as PBJ just disable Voodoo through the CWM menu), and PBJ OTB edition(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1126136). I personally use the OTB kernel because I like to have the option to overclock/undervolt whenever I feel it's necessary but apparently the non-OC kernel gets better battery life. I would never go with the non-voodoo kernel, the lagfix speeds up your phone and there are apps like Voodoo Control that really optimize it. There is only one real problem with Voodoo and that's that you MUST(I can't stress this enough) disable Voodoo if you are going to flash a different kernel. All in all, I would HIGHLY recommend the Voodoo kernel.
2b) Now you're going to want to flash the sd-card fix(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1118111). This is ABSOLUTELY necessary and not optional, if you choose to not flash this your Charge will only read your SD card as a cd drive, to put it simply it breaks your USB mass storage and you can't transfer files anymore.
3a) After all that is done it's time to choose your ROM(if you want one). Some ROMs allow you to flash through ODIN but most are just CWM specific, .md5 files are ODIN and .zip files are CWM. Currently, I'd highly recommend Eclipse(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1144015). Humble(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1146103) is in a very close second but I'll have to give it to Nitro, he made a great ROM. It has an awesome TouchWiz4 look and has a bunch of flashable files to modify the ROM to your liking. Humble on the other hand has everything built in, that's the one thing that made me switch to Eclipse. For example Eclipse has an optional Honeycomb theme you can flash but Humble has it built in so you are forced to sit with Honeycomb like it or not. You can also choose certain debloated ROMs but I never really saw the point, if you want to stay on TouchWiz and debloat just download TitaniumBackup and either freeze(recommended) or just uninstall that crapware.
3b) Now this is not necessary but I would highly recommend you flash an AOSP lockscreen over the puzzle one, it's more accurate(you won't ever miss your swipe like you can with the puzzle) and you can see your battery percentage on the lockscreen when charging, great when you're calibrating your battery or just want to know what your battery is at. Eclipse has a flashable .zip and Humble comes with the AOSP lockscreen preinstalled. I would also highly recommend the HTC Sense lockscreen(keep reading, it's posted below under the subtitle "Lockscreen" in step 4).
3c) If you didn't choose Eclipse or Humble(or you're on an older version) I would highly recommend the modified camera.zip(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1144885) that causes your power button to act as a shutter when using the stock Camera app. It really makes you forget about the fact that you don't have a dedicated camera button because, well, now you do have one!
4) Now it's time for the fun part, no more flashing we're going to start with the worlds best apps to truly make this phone awesome! Keep in mind this is not necessarily in order of importance they're just the first apps that popped into my head.
Keyboard: SwiftKey X($4), Modded HTC Sense Keyboard Port(free, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=624416) - SwiftKey X is a great keyboard with very accurate predictions, it can be annoying at times but I've found this keyboard to be incredible. The modded HTC Sense KB Port is very nice, it's pretty much an exact clone and is very easy to install, not to mention free. Give the legendary keyboard a shot! Added picture(s) of SwiftKey X.
Messaging: Handcent SMS(free), GO SMS Pro(free, thanks caesus!) - Handcent SMS is a customizable messaging app to replace the crappy stock messaging. I would say it's best feature over the stock app is the themes, they look awesome! GO SMS Pro is much better than Handcent if you ask me. GO has very cool transitions between pages(check pictures), the themes are much better(and there's a LOT more of them, which brings me to my next point), much better dev support and it just has a cleaner look then Handcent. Aside from all that the features are pretty much exactly the same. Added picture(s) of Handcent SMS and GO SMS Pro.
Handcent:
GO SMS:
Phone: Stock Phone(free, preinstalled) + Caller ID Plus($4), RocketDial($4) - I used RocketDial mainly for the callerID but I found the app itself to be quite buggy at times, for example about 2 weeks ago I received a call and when I went to answer it the phone froze up for about a minute and caused me to miss the call. This might have been due to the fact that I froze the Phone app in Titanium but I don't know. Now I just use the stock Phone app with Caller ID Plus and it's working great. Added picture(s) of Stock Phone with the Caller ID Plus app(blacked out the name, address, zip code and phone number in that order.)
Browser: Dolphin HD(free) - Pretty neat browser, I like the tabs and the gesture feature and currently have no problems with it. You might also want to check out Opera, although I haven't personally used it. Added picture(s) for Dolphin HD.
Music: PowerAMP($5, there's also the option to try it out with a 15 day free trial), Mixzing Basic(free), Stock Music Player(free, preinstalled) - Now keep in mind I'm REALLY into my music, I need a very high quality music player with tons of options and a nice UI. That's what PowerAMP is, if you aren't a huge music person or you don't listen to music primarily on your phone I would recommend a free app, either the stock Music Player or Mixzing Basic. Added picture(s) of PowerAMP.
Weather: Eclipse's built in GS2 widgets(free), MIUI Digital Clock(free) OR Beautiful Widgets($3) - As far as weather goes they all function the same, the weather is always accurate so I'll just put it plain and simple; the Eclipse widgets look incredible, they are animated very well but that's about it. MIUI Digital Clock is fantastic, VERY customizable and a great bang for your buck(yes, I know it's free). Then we have Beautiful Widgets, it's very handy to have all the widgets it comes with but honestly, who the hell needs a clock? All that info is displayed on your lockscreen/notification bar. Half the widgets are pointless, it's a waste of money unless you really like the look of its weather widget. Hands down the winner of this fight is MIUI Digital Clock for its incredible amount of customization. Added picture(s).
Eclipse Widget 1:
Eclipse Widget 2:
MIUI Digital Clock:
Beautiful Widgets:
News: Stock News & Weather widget(free), US Newspapers(free, thanks piizzadude!) - The stock News & Weather widget is quite simple, just a constant feed of news with the occasional picture. US Newspapers lists a bunch of different newspapers & sports sites, it also allows you to add your favorite sites to the app. Added picture(s) of Stock News & Weather and US Newspapers.
Stock News & Weather:
US Newspapers:
Video Player: Stock Video Player(free),MoboPlayer(free, thanks kvswim!) - Stock works fine, it's simple and just shows a list of your videos. MoboPlayer on the other hand has a lot more compatibility, it has a few problems like not detecting all my videos but it's a great video player.
Emulators: Ataroid,Gameboid,GBCoid,Gearoid,Gensoid,N64oid,Nesoid,SNesoid,FPse(not available on the market, must be obtained from Slideme or other such websites. Free for a limited time.) - Not sure about you but I NEED to have emulators with me at all times, whenever I'm bored I whip out the GB emulator and play some Pokemon Red or get the GBA emulator and play some Mystery Dungeon, great for nostalgia or just straight up fun. Added picture(s) of the GBA emulator(Gameboid). Sorry that they're sideways, don't hurt your neck!
Games: Fieldrunners HD($3), Age of Zombies($3),Cut the Rope($1),Plants vs Zombies($4),Impossible Game($1),Doodle Jump($1) - I have about 40 or so actual games on my phone. Instead of listing them all and looking up all their prices I'm taking the lazy route and just giving you my absolute favorite and most addicting games. Unfortunately they all cost money but hey you get what you pay for.
Lockscreen: Agile Lock(has a free & paid version; paid is $1) - I would HIGHLY recommend this lockscreen for anyone who doesn't like the AOSP/Puzzle/Glass or just wants to use the HTC sense lockscreen(you know, the ring that has shortcuts and such). If you do choose this route you would need to follow the Androidcentral guide(http://forums.androidcentral.com/droid-charge-rooting-roms-hacks/88577-remove-lock-screen-charge.html) to remove your current lockscreen because all this app does is add a second lock to your phone, so you would need to unlock your phone twice if you want to get in. Before you do that BE WARNED this removes not only your lockscreen but your power button menu as well(you know, when you hold the power button to restart and boot into recovery). Instead it just powers your phone off, you can always re-enable your lockscreen very easily using the same guide so there's nothing to fear. This app has TONS of customization and is far superior to the zero customization the AOSP/stock locks have. I'd say the only issue this app has is the fact that you can't go to silent/sound like you can with the AOSP. Added picture(s).
Screenshot/Screen Capture: ShootMe(free, thanks blarrick & anoninja118!) - I prefer this over the stock screen capture service(Hold back key, then press home) it's slow at times, doesn't always take the picture and holding the back key causes me to actually go back in many apps(Dolpin HD and Handcent for example). I still do use the stock service but if back is causing problems I use ShootMe. Added picture(s).
Image Viewer/Gallery: QuickPic(free, thanks Jmjohnson1717!) - MUCH better image viewer over the stock app, the stock app is just too cluttered and not organized well. I like the options this one has and I can't thank you enough Jmjohnson1717, seriously... that stock app is horrible. Added picture(s).
Tethering: Barnacle Wifi Tether(free), A WiFi Tether AP Mesh Client(AKA OpenGarden, free), Wireless Tether for Root Users(free, not available on the Android Market. Download from here http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/ ), PdaNet(free), EasyTether($10) - Barnacle, OpenGarden and WT4RUsers are all very simple wireless tethering apps. They are free and just require you to click one button and it will show up as a wireless network named AndroidTether or something similar. PdaNet and EasyTether are both wired tethering apps(in-case you don't have the option to connect to a wireless network). If you are going to choose a wired tethering app go with PdaNet because it's free. Added picture(s) of OpenGarden(all the wireless tethering apps look the same).
Scripts/Mods/.zips: V6 SuperCharger(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991276), Loopy Smoothness Tweak(apply SuperCharger before this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1205744), modded camera.apk(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1144885), if you're on Eclipse you should flash all the included .zip files you feel are necessary(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1144015) - V6 SuperCharger basically gets rid of your hanging home screen(When your home screen shows up blank after clearing RAM or closing an app that consumes high RAM). Loopy Smoothness Tweak basically just eliminates lag and choppiness on plenty of applications. Modded camera.apk just causes your power button to act as a shutter when you have the stock Camera app open, doesn't work for other apps like Fast Burst, just stock unfortunately. Eclipse flashable .zips are basically just apps/mods that Nitro thought some people would want and some people wouldn't, so he gave you the option to either flash or not flash. I chose to flash everything except VVM, stock gps config and puzzle unlock.
Other: Voodoo Control(free & paid version, thanks kvswim!), CPU Spy(free, thanks anoninja118!), FasterFix(free) - Voodoo Control allows you to control Voodoo lagfix/Voodoo Sound to customize your sound settings(among other things). "This(CPU Spy) is a simple app to display the time the CPU spends in each frequency state. This can be a useful tool in diagnosing battery problems or tweaking your over-clock settings." Quoted from the CPU Spy app on the Android Market because I'm too damn lazy to type anything else out :] Fasterfix is a VERY simple but incredibly useful app, it basically makes your GPS lock on much faster, when I'm inside my house GPS locks on in about 2 seconds, just open the app and choose the server closest to you. Added picture(s) of Voodoo Control Plus(paid version) and FasterFix.
Voodoo Control Plus:
FasterFix:
That's pretty much everything I needed to do before this phone was perfect, might not have been the most useful guide but I just wanted to share everything I needed to do with my Charge. Now I'm not saying to do this exactly since everyone has different tastes but just use this as a reference. There are some cool apps you may not have known about and there is some info you may not have known about. Don't click that thanks button unless you actually feel this thread deserves it, peace :]
You forgot Voodoo Control. I line out to my car. I listen to techno, and I like my bass cranked and the volume amped. This is absolutely necessary for anyone who likes their music to go loud and hard. Especially high school teenagers like me Also you can control voodoo lagfix from the app.
Also, I recommend MoboPlayer as a video player, it has a lot more file support than the stock player.
Sent from my Droid Charge running GummyFroyo 1.9.1
I'll have to check that out, I use Freemake Video Converter(possibly the BEST converter of all time) and just convert it to Android format so stock works fine for me, and btw PowerAMP(the music player) allows you to modify your bass and, well, pretty much everything. I like a lot of bass too and PowerAMP does just that
Voodoo Control modifies the audio hardware directly.
Sent from my Droid Charge running GummyFroyo 1.9.1
Yea I have Voodoo Control Plus :] I'll be sure to add it to the list, I just prefer poweramp, it gives you a nice UI like you're in a recording studio. It also allows you to save your presets and assign them to certain songs and all this crap. I love both apps
edit: Do you know why Mobo isn't recognizing all my videos? I direct it to the folder and after it hits a certain video it will just stock scanning and only show a few videos. Not sure what the problem is but that's the only thing annoying me about this app, everything else seems great.
If you do a lot of "newspaper" reading I would suggest that you give US Newspapers a try. it is a free app and it lists something like 30 newspapers and sports sites. You can also add your favorite sites as well.
Is their an app to turn my charge into a sgs2? Now that would be a perfect phone!
How bout how to do this on a mac? I know you can use heimdall but as far as step by step I'm lost.

Wondering about 2b.. the SD card fix. I've yet to have to flash this to have my mass storage work properly. I'm running the latest PBJ Voodoo kernel, and am on the debloated rom with a few minor tweaks of my own. I just double checked and I can read from and write to my SD card when connected to my PC just fine. Is it only necessary when running certain roms?
Edit: I suppose it is possible that I flashed the fix way back when I rooted my DC, but I really don't remember doing that. I do have the fix on my SD card though, so I guess it is a possibility that I did flash it and don't remember doing it.

See the thing is it doesn't always happen, if you didn't flash it I would still recommend it. If it breaks later you will have to go out and buy a usb reader for your sd card to fix it
Beamed from my Droid Charge using the XDA premium app
This is a great idea for the newer Android users. The only thing I would add is that a custom launcher is very important (ADW/Go Launcher Ex/LauncherPro Plus)>
Also, I think GoSMS has surpassed Handcent in the SMS category.
Mass storage break
This is crazy! I never even heard about this SD card break before you mentioned it. Are the dev's working on implementing this into their roms?

Haven't heard any talk about it. Not really sure what causes it but the guide I followed to rooting this phone told me to flash the SD card fix. I see plenty of threads on this forum about how their phone is only reading as a disk drive and it's always because they didn't flash it.
edit: Just a side note, if anyone could suggest a better picture viewer/gallery over the stock one I would add it to the main post & give you credit, currently I can't stand the crappy stock Gallery :] Thanks.
I've begun adding pictures to the thread. I'm still in the process of getting pictures for all the apps, just sit back
Also, if you have any apps you think should be added to the main thread just drop a reply with the name and the reason why, I'll be sure to give you credit :]
QuickPick is a great app for the gallery.

you missed the all important screenshot app!! lol I personally use "Shoot Me!" but there is Drocap2 and a few others (all free) ... Dropbox is a good app to transfer/download files as well, and CPU Spy (free) is a must have to monitor phone cpu usage, and Terminal Emulator

sweet lol and CPU Spy and Terminal Emulator should be added as well, both free... perhaps LTE Switch too, its not a toggle but takes you directly to the option to switch between 4G LTE and 3G/1X only CDMA (for those too lazy to navigate through menus like myself lol)

Added CPU Spy because it seems like a pretty useful app, didn't add Terminal because I honestly can't see a real use for it. I think you can type su in it to check if you have root but aside from that I don't see the point
I won't add LTE Switch because there were a lot of complaints that the app can break your LTE and force a factory reset to fix it, I never bothered downloading it after seeing all the complaints. Sorry!
Hello, I Just bought a used Galaxy S2 Skyrocket that the previous owner rooted. It was getting a lot of "not responding" messages for various things (mostly touchwiz) so I wanted to do a restore. I booted into CWM and ran the "wipe data/factory reset". I have read that doing so won't mess with the root and will only restore the data and settings.
After doing that I am faced with all kinds of problems. Mainly "com.android.phone errors" and most things stop responding. The top status bar won't even show up and the settings are no where to be found.
Okay, so I was just going to follow this guide here and start on page 2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1773659
Now my problem is when it says,
"MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT HAVE SUPERUSER OR BUSYBOX APPS INSTALLED
UNINSTALL BOTH FROM SETTINGS/APPLICATION/ALL MENU [/B](if unistalling is not available use disable and restart phone to recovery to flash the SU file before proceeding.)"
Click to collapse
I can't remove superuser because there is no way to get into Settings. If I push the left menu button at the home screen there is an option for settings but it will hang for a bit and then say "touchwiz home has stopped". I thought I may be able to remove it from the play store but I can't even log into play store (it says Google account manager has stopped).
So I can't uninstall it or disable it. Should I continue with the guide even though superuser is still on the phone? What else are my options?
If you can get into CWM, I would just download and flash another ROM (with all recommended wipes). You will be starting clean and have root after install. The instructions for doing so are in the first post for each ROM. CM9 and Sky ICS are the most popular choices.

Okay thanks! I went ahead and flashed SKY-ICS 4.2F6-2.2 without any issues. Just wanted to make sure that still having superuser installed wasn't going to be a serious issue.
Now I am trying to figure out what the best radio to use would be. I narrowed it down to 4 different ones but their performance all seem so similar. Is there any kind of benchmark I can run to test different radios/modems?
Also what is the difference between non crysis and crysis add ons? I can't seem to find any info on this. I want to remove the battery bar that came with the rom but not sure if I should run "Stock Battery" or "CrStock Battery"
There is an app to turn off the white battery line. Crysis is a cool theme so you should check those out. Radios are trial and evaluation only. I benchmark with a call to my wife. She is getting good at evaluating call quality...lol.
Sent from my SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
Okay I found the app for it, lol. My phone had it before and I could simply uninstall it but it seems like it's built into this ROM I have now. Was confused that it wouldn't let me uninstall it like I did before.
I'm not so big on changing themes. I like the one the ROM came with. So the crysis theme needs specific add ons just for it? I guess I will just get non-crysis add ons.
Wish there was an easier way to pick radios. Pay-as-you-go adds up fast so I try to avoid unnecessary calls.
Crisis is only the status bar theme. So wifi, signal, BT icons at the top of screen. Nothing more. You can flash stock over it if you don't like it. Come to think of it, one of the Sky ICS threads has screen shots of each mod. They look the same for all versions of Sky ICS, but you must use the mod from the same version of ROM you are using. Glad your squared away.

Hi, I'm totally new to smartphone/android and this is the first one I currently have.
It works pretty fine but friends told me that if it lags that means the original rom is not good I should flash another rom for the phone but I have no idea how and which is good for my phone. One told me to flash it to jelly bean which I searched around but people are using prof words (at least they are to me) and I don't quite understand esp. when it says during the procedure I might brick my phone so I want to have more idea how things are done so and so.
Some info about my razr hd are
Model: TX925
Carrier: Fido (got it from fido, in bc)
Android version: 4.0.4
I believe I already rooted my phone because one of the app called screenshot need the phone to be rooted so I tried that but nothing further.
Thanks in advance for helping me out. ^_^
Not intending to seem condescending, but it's probably safer to not attempt to install a custom ROM. My experience with the ICS stock ROM was that it was mainly lagging in the home screens which can mostly be remedied by installing Nova or Apex.

Nova and Apex are launcher replacements that can be downloaded in Google Play. Each has a free version, and a premium version with the only difference between the paid and free version being some missing features in the free versions.
Launcher replacements are great as they allow you to customise your home screens a fair bit more: number of home screens, grid size, scrolling animations, ability to hide apps in the app drawer, etc. If you're curious I'd recommend downloading one of them and play around, if you don't like you can just uninstall.
The downsides on the RAZR HD are that you can't have the Motorola circles widget on 3rd party launchers which is disappointing because it's quite nice - and the swipe to left screen quick settings is also lost. The latter I resolved by installing Widgetsoid (free in Play Store) and setting up quick settings in my notification blind.

Thanks for the respond....just another quick question so I guess it's not a recommendation to flash a different rom for razr hd it's just that lots people are saying flashing a different rom would be better than the stock one is it because razr hd is still new or it's just somehow not good for razr hd to have other rom?
P.S. for the stock TX925 are there any applications I can uninstall? I checked there are lots that runs in background even if I stopped it but it'll somehow start again and some that I just don't know if I should stop it from running.....*as I know sometimes there are apps that can be deleted but comes with the phone and I'm not sure which I can uninstall/delete*
It's not that it's bad to flash a different ROM, but as it was mentioned it's safer to start with installing Nova or Apex and trying those out first.
With respect to what can or can't be uninstalled, you can start by freezing an app first to see what kind of impact it will have on your phone (I would also do a Google search on that app). Typically if the app came with your system but can also be installed from the play store, then I would say it is safe to at least freeze it (others may disagree).
One other way to decide which app to freeze/uninstall is look at some of the custom ROMs and see what apps were removex there.

Just played around with those two launchers ^_^
If I do want to try flashing a different ROM is there any to recommend?
Also I kept on seeing people posting firmware updates or change firmware what do those actually do?
Flashing another Rom will unlock the verizon razr hd for others carriers?
Ok so I ran across this yesterday and noticed no one has posted on it so I thought I would let you guys know.
On the play store there is an app that will let you freely install the cm versions of a bunch of apps provided you have access to root.
To make this work on the moto x you have to have pwnmymoto installed and working on your device, also you must be booted
into recovery mode so that you can make the changes to the system/app/ folder actually stick.
The way the app works is it downloads the .apk to your device and then it installs it separately in two different commands.
The installation is kind of finicky i had to hit the install .apk button twice before it would actually install. Give it a try your results may differ.

APP Info Pulled from Play Store
** Please read this before you install! **
There are a lot of ROM's out there, some CyanogenMod-based and some not. The CyanogenMod team go much further than ROM functions, they develop apps with increased functionality over stock or older versions.
This application is designed to install these CyanogenMod apps as system apps, regardless of your ROM. Please note this is a root-only app!
The process is designed to be as simple as possible; select your app, hit download, hit install, and reboot your device when you're done. The system will refresh them upon reboot, and the app should be installed
Currently supported:
- Apollo music player
- CM Messaging
- CM Torch
- CM File Manager
- DSP Manager

I'm having all kinds of issues with any equalizer, they work for a period of time and stop completely, AFAIK DSP equalizer has issues with jb 4.2, I was using awesome beats, which is a modified version of DSP and after 4 o4 5 songs it stopped working. So I bit the bullet and purchased player pro, it by passes stock sound configurations .

I've got DSP kind of working...Each time i start a song I have to re-open the app, or if i go to it under the equalizer settings in GPM. Ive only been using GPM and i know that DSP has some weird issues with streaming, but DSP is working, its just annoying that I have to "re-enable" it after each song. I dont have any music on my storage, so i havent tried with any other app, maybe its just the streaming...

Okay I guess you could say it kind of works. It sounds nothing like the real DSP manager though, hopefully he'll fix this soon.

Has anyone gotten Voice+ to work? I cannot. Whenever I try manually launching the .APK it says "There was a problem parsing the package." Torch works, though the frequency of the strobe function is completely erratic. Messaging would force close every time I opened it so I downloaded the one from the thread stated earlier. Haven't tried any of the others though.

My understanding of voice plus requires dependent files that are built into cm. I could definitely be wrong however I suspect that I'm not.
