Hi,
Does anyone know what the ZTE U970 handset is? It seems like theV970 (upgraded model?) but I couldn't find a like-for-like comparison anywhere.
Thanks,
Steve

ZTE is en route to launch a few other devices soon - the Grand Era LTE and two lower-end offerings - the Grand V970 and Grand U930.
As for the U970,
This unnamed fella is quite a powerhouse. It has a dual-core 1.2GHz dual-core processor and 1GB RAM, 4GB internal storage and a 5MP/0.3 camera combo. The U970 features a 4.3-inch qHD display, but it doesn't feel that big. Its back uses a textured matte plastic, so fingerprints and smudges won't be a common thing. Finally, the U970 runs a stock Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich. Judging by the logo on the front, it will become available in China soon. - gsmarena

So like most, im getting some cash back for taxes and instead of buying a new computer I think I NEED a tablet instead. I could go to best buy or target or where ever but i dont believe they know all of what the great memebers here at XDA know.
What im looking for:
WiFi
8gb + internal mem
Nice Screen
Fast
And of course i want to root and custimize it as well.
Im mainly going to use to surf the web and watch videos, and prob some games. So what does that leave me with?
Moto Zoom
Hp TouchPad
Samsung Galaxy
Ive never owned a tablet so descriptions only go so far, what peoples general feelings towards there tablets?
Transformer prime too expensive?
ainol novo 7 aurora
1.2 ghz cortex a8
ips screen same as ipad 2 1024x768
1gb ram
mali 400 gpu ( same as gamsung galaxy s2)
android ice cream sandwhich
price 167 $
I own a Motorola Xoom that has what you need and please consider it also has a sim-card slot so you can connect everywhere with a 3G connection (you'll never know) and it also integrates a tegra2 GPU (so it's fast in games and You'll like it.. 1Ghz CPU is enough for the rest). The screen is very nice and bright. And last but not least, battery runs for like 3/4 days in "office" use.

Before you buy you might want to look into the developer thread (or verify there is a dev thread) for your proposed device and see if you like the level of action.
I don't know about this Ainol device... sheesh stay away from the cheapest of the cheap.

amazing tablet, i'm going for it
Pandawill $10 off cupon code makes the 8gb aurora $157 with the free shipping option. Ordered one yesterday, it was just over $170 with EMS shipping to Australia.
As I have a low post count I can't post links, but he youtube video hYHpHKIGqYk is the best review I've been able to locate..
I wanted to get a discussion going about this line of 7" ICS tablets *coming soon* from Ainol. Ainol is a budget chinese brand, but has been establishing a name for itself after becoming the manufacturer of the first ICS tablet. I have played with an older Ainol model, the Paladin, which has a pretty nice build quality to it, but the crippling factor was that it used a MIPS processor that was incompatible with a number of popular apps. This line of tablets uses ARM processors, so there shouldn't be any app compatibility issues. Here are the tablets with a list of key features. I've listed in green what the upgrades are from the previous model.
Tornado $99
Screen: 800x480
CPU: 1ghz Cortex A9
RAM 1GB
Memory: 8GB or 16GB(+$20)
Camera: 0.3MP front
Micro SD slot
Mars $129
Screen: 1024x600
CPU: 1ghz Cortex A9
RAM 1GB
Memory: 8GB or 16GB(+$20)
Camera: 0.3MP front
Micro SD slot
ELF II $149
Screen: 1024x600
CPU: 1.5ghz Dual Core Cortex A9
RAM 1GB
Memory: 8GB
Camera: 2.0MP front
Micro SD slot
Mini HDMI
Aurora II $189
Screen: IPS 1024x600
CPU: 1.5ghz Dual Core Cortex A9
RAM 1GB
Memory: 8GB
Camera: 2.0MP front
Micro SD slot
Mini HDMI
It appears that they should be getting the Tornado and Mars tablets very soon, but the Elf II and Aurora II will not be available until May according to what I've read. Spemall appears to be a fairly reliable seller of android tablets. You can see them interacting with customers on their facebook page and twitter . They have posted pictures of the tablets and spec sheets on their facebook page as well. You may want to wait to order until they have given confirmation that they have stock on hand.
I like the look of these tablets. They have a nice clean modern look with a solid piece of glass covering the front. Most cheap chinese tablets are fairly ugly and have raised borders over the screen. I would find it hard to spend $189 on the Aurora II, especially since I'm expecting to see a Google/Asus tablet with the same specs coming in July for $200. However, the first three seem reasonably priced to me.
If you want to get a better idea of what these are like, check out this set of video reviews for the original Aurora. I believe they are using the same case/build style as the original Elf/Aurora on these new tablets. Really, the only difference between the original Elf/Aurora and the Elf II/Aurora II is the dual core processor. You can get the original Aurora for $169.

I've got an Elf (original model)
Its pretty nice, build quality is a bit...cheap, there's some creaks in where the bezel connect to the back plate, and this thing is unusable when its really hot.
But it does have a nice dev community and if you're not happy with that, just use some ROMs for the Aurora, they're pretty much the same, save for the IPS display on the Aurora.
But, thy buy a tablet like his nowadays, when the Nexus7 just managed to massively outclass these Chinese tablets

Hi,
i'm thinking about buying a Vega clone with 3G. At the moment i have a cheap 99bucks 7" tablet with ICS, 512mb ram and 1,2Ghz Cortex A8 cpu. The speed is ok, actually it's enough for me, but the screen is just too small and the resolution is crappy (800x480). 3G with an external dongel is annoying to. So I looked around on ebay and found new Vega Clones with 3G for 140€. How fast is it? Faster than my actual device? My actuall device (Odys neo x7) doens't has root at the moment, of course I'll use roms for the Vega.
Can I compare the speed of the Vega with my girlfriends classic Desire?
Thanks in advance
You mean the advent vega? Cause i had one and that screen is horrible...id invest in one of the chinese tablets with ics and an ips screen.. Id check out the ainol novo 7 aurora 2, allthough thats 7 inch. But there are enough 10" ones with ips, dual core and 4.0 for around the pricepoint of the vega. You can find them on sites like gadgetgreats.com etc

I wouldnt...
I'll be shortly in China very soon and would like to grab a "deal-breaker" tablet. Please help me out, I have no clue which brand is popular enough to be supported at XDA and which model is expected to have less problems. I'm sure there are good ones, better build quality, that play nicely, don't crash, don't have HW/SW issues, etc. Some popular model!
I'd like:
- Quad-core A9 Rock 3188 or Exynos 4412 CPU,
- 10,1" or 9,7" HD/retina resolution 1920x1200 or 2048x1536
- 2GB RAM
- Bluetooth
- HW volume buttons
- sleek/thin design
- better battery (>7,500 mAh)
- smaller bezel if possible
- black or silver if possible
- USB charging as well, if possible
- case with a BT (full-size) keyboard that fits
Wishful thinking:
- XDA support (like ROMs, problems solving, tweaks, maybe even running Ubuntu on it)
- manufacturer's support in FW updates
Both formats are ok:
a) iPad format (4:3), retina (2048x1536): e.g. Visture V79HD, Cube U9GT5/U9GTV, Yuandao Vido N90 FHD, Pipo M6, Hyundai Play X900 , Freelander PD800, Ainol Novo9, Aoson M33
b) Nexus format (16:10), HD (1920x1200): e.g. Ramos W30HD (Samsung SoC), Cube U30GT2 (ugly), Huawei MediaPad 10 FHD (expensive)
- What model of the above would you recommend?
- Pipo M6 is a newcomer, just introduced!
- I like Visture V79HD the most (with BT keyboard), but the are no reviews on the net, no XDA topics, empty forum on Visture website. Scroll down for lots of pics:
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/2048...C-Visture-V97-HD-Rockchip-Quad/914676697.html
- Popular Pipo M9 is nice, but low-res.
Please be kind and suggest a model or two or three that fits! Thanks a lot!
The Samsung note 10.1 is a great tablet and has a thread on xda. Also the nexus 10 is good to. I think they both have 2 gb of ram but I could be wrong. The note has tons of case options. Not sure about the nexus. Either one is a good choice.
Press thanks if I've helped you!

^ Yeah, thanks, I know a lot about Samsung Tab and Nexus, I'm now looking for a Chinese tablet, since I'll be in China for short and can buy it cheap.
plz provide a section for pipo and cube and hynudai and other chinesse tablets
for full support and devolopment
Freelander PD800 HD
I have no experience with it from a software standpoint, but in my opinion, just by looking at specs and what would probably get you the most stability/bang for your buck would be the upcoming Freelander PD800 HD. The HD version specifically. It's going to have an Exynos 5250 (the same SoC as in the Nexus 10) so the weird choppiness and lag spikes and battery issues the Rockchip/Allwinner chips have is going to be avoided. It also has a retina display as per the original Freelander PD800. You can go check it out on Geekbuying. Kind of want one myself.
My two cent's
Pipo M6.
Got mine a little more than a week ago and am very happy with it.

I got Pipo M8 Pro which works like a charm, not bulky & more stylish than M6. I played with both but finally choose M8 pro. It does not have a Retina display but I don't mind even though I have Full HD display on my smartphone. I'm using ROM (FW) with SDK 2.0 upgrade for RK3188. Smooth & nice.
However, I also think M6 is a very good deal, especially after releasing SDK upgrade.

Hi! As you may have heard, Jiayu is joining the Chinese bandwagon and they will soon release their own iPhone 5-style mobile named Jiayu G5. It is rumored to have 4.5-inch HD (1280 x 720p) IPS screen (probably OGS and Gorilla Glass 2), quad core MT6589 1.2GHz CPU, 2GB RAM, 32GB ROM, 13MP rear and 3MP front cameras, and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. It would probably be dual SIM too! Take a look at the full specifications here: http://www.chinaphonereview.com/jiayu-g5
If these specs are indeed true, then Jiayu G5 would be the best iPhone 5-based Chinese phone today in my opinion, though it is slightly bigger. There is no exact date of release yet but many are anticipating its launch. What do you think of Jiayu G5?
I have this phone. Great phone with metal body (actualy stainless steel). Just correcting your write about OS version, this phone using Jelly Bean 4.2.1, and clock speed of CPU is 1.5GHz.

The newer version of the phone is named Jiayu G5S and it has upgraded specs like Octa-core MT6592 1.7GHz CPU, 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM. More specs here: http://www.chinaphonereview.com/jiayu-g5s
Anyone know if this phone is still being sold somewhere for a decent price? This is exactly what I'm looking for for my gf...
It seems like the G5 and G5S are both totally out of stock, or the prices are sky-high..
