It is now done, HTC did what they said and before September. Now the real questions is, who will use this?
People who aren't on XDA.

Isn't that the truth!
Why would anyone who does not know about xda, or was never here before want to unlock his bootloader?

A bunch of people on Facebook (who probably never heard of XDA) started complaining about it too. You know how angry mobs get.

If you don't care about warranties or are just lazy, then those are the people who will use this method.

Because they bought their phones in a foreign country during vacations, and HTC doesn't offers a good suport in theirs home country. So it is desirable get S-OFF from HTC even if it means lose warranty.
easy and strait forward root?
would this be an alternative to xda tutorials to achieve root on my sensation? im very new to android, about 3 weeks now, and i'd like to root my phone but from perm temp roots and terminology that i dont understand it made xda tutorials rather difficult. the only downside to htcdev is it could possibly jeopardize your warranty.
who cares XDA been added Tmobile lol.............

It's very easy to get S-OFF and root through Revolutionary. This method isn't good if you want to retain your full warranty. Just follow this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1232107
Had S-OFF, Recovery and Root via Revolutionary for a month now...

HTCDev site does NOT root your phone, it unlocks the BOOTLOADER only, which is the first step to permanently root your phone.
Has a new root come out for the latest update?? W/o flashing a Rom?

You don't need to flash a ROM to root.
You flash Clockwork Recovery Image on it, then you flash the root zip file to perm root.

Need to reroot after updating to 2.3.5.

Hello I'm ending if anyone can give me some detailed steps on getting root back after upgrading to 2.3.5. I've seen one post with instructions, but when it comes to rooting an HTC device, I get nervous. I just want to use my Wi-Fi tethering again, so would I just need to unlock my bootloader using HTCdev and install CWM? Do I downgrade?
Someone please help me out.

How did you root it the first time, AAHK or HTCDEV? If you used AAHK you might still be S-OFF; just flash a recovery and flash a rooted ROM. If you used HTCDEV I advise that you use AAHK this time around. Google "attn1 aahk" to find it. You will need to downgrade; it's in the Kit.

Then you are in the wrong place. This is a developers site, you are suppossed to do your homework and read and do some research. A tutorial will probably lead you to a messed bootloader and belive me, that is really painful to deal with.
That thread has all you need to know. Even has a noob guide (the same that in my signature) that will help you out. Try that out and once you know what rooting and downgrading involves, you are ready to go.

As long as you follow instructions in the Hack Kit site and in the effen manual, chances are almost inexistent, thou modifying software always involves risks.
You have you be aware of that. Several thousands of dhd and inspire users have used the kit successfully, so that is your proof that it works flawlessly as long as directions are followed.
Bro my point in not hack kit...
I m asking about downgrading and unlocking bootloader as it is said in above post

Same answer. If you follow instructions you shouldn't have problems. The risk is always latent, you are modifying software, but there are lots of success cases that backup the process.
Its very simple. I did this 4 days ago. Currently on 4.2 AOKP. All you need to do. Unlock your bootloader. Thats easy. Htcdev.com. create an account and follow the directions. This'll unlock bootloader. Then Download that boot.zip. extract the boot.IMG and put it in the fastboot folder. On computer, cd to fast boot folder and type fastboot flash boot boot.img. relock the boot loader. Then run the hack kit. Questions?

I will go for it .....

Am I missing out on having my devices boot loader unlocked ? When I first tot the inspire 4g I had some difficulties knowing where to start but than I figured out how to root the thing with AAHK. I'm now using a cm10 ROM and honestly I'm curious about this boot loader option. I would assume that by using aahk that I couldn't use htcdev to unlock the bootloader because I might risk brick or some god awful thing...
Ultimately all I wanted to do was be able to use custom roms and vice versa but now that I keep hearing about this bootloader option it makes me curious as to what unlocking it well do for my inspire

S-Off with AAHK is a much better option than S-On boot loader unlock with HTCDEV. With S-On you can only flash ROMs meant for the DHD, meaning no ported ROMs. Also, you need to fast boot flash a boot.IMG separately each time you flash a ROM. Also, you let HTC know and so you lose any warranty you may have. And radios can't be flashed. Look in the Ace Think Tank guide for more information.
You just answered all my questions man, I appreciate it...ill stick to what I know...its a different experience coming from a LG optimus one....

So do i do this or not?
