[Q] Samsung Galaxy SII won't reboot after root attempt.. plz help - General Questions and Answers

My brother brought his samsung Galaxy SII and he decided to give it to me.
he lives in australia and i am from india.
he had his connection by Yes Optus. Yesterday i Tried to root my phone using Odin.
everything worked fine. I used the following steps:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1683800
Odin showed PASS sign and my phone tried to reboot but it showed the startup screen with a yellow triangle beneath. And then nothing has happened since. please help me and tell what did i do wrong?

I was playing around with my Galaxy S II (SGH-T989) and somehow, it wouldn't boot for me. I decided to reroot the phone using Odin to install the recovery. Then I used recovery to wipe everything using Darkside's super wipe. Then I reinstalled SuperUser and reinstalled my rom and it worked.

Download Odin.
Download a recovery image (I like Clockwork Mod)
Download SuperUser.
Download ROM.
Download Darkside Super Wipe.
Put the SuperUser, Darkside Super Wipe, and ROM files into your sd card.
Turn phone off.
Hold V+ and V-.
Plug phone into computer.
When in Odin Download, click V+.
Run Odin.
Click 'PDA' and look for your recovery file. It should be a .tar file.
Then click 'Start'.
Once done, your phone should reboot automatically.
Shut off phone and unplug from computer.
Put your phone into Recovery mode by holding V+, V- and power.
In recovery, select "Install ZIP from SDCard", locate and install the SuperUser file.
Then install Darkside Super Wipe.
Next wipe cache partition, wipe data/factory reset, and wipe dalvik cache (in advanced).
Last install ROM and reboot.
Simple?

Just for future reference, you may want to put this in the GS3 Forums themselves as that is where GS3 Threads belong.

[ODIN][UCKD5] Odin - Stock (100% or Root+3e) - (Update 06/05/11)

This will flash the stock kernel, modem, system, dbdata and cache. There's no need for a pit since we do not have any other OS versions to flash yet that would re-partition your device.
Instructions:
1) Make sure the drivers for the Infuse 4G are installed.
2) Please unzip the .zip file.
3) Run Odin3 v1.81.exe (as administrator if you are on Windows 7)
4) Place your phone into download mode (pull battery, press and hold both Volume keys, put battery in and plug the USB cable in)
5) Make sure your phone shows up in Odin as COM##
5) Click the PDA button and choose the .tar.md5 file in the .zip.
6) Press Start.
7) After it completes, it will reboot your device and should boot up like normal. If it fails on flash see FAQ Question 4 below!
There is ALWAYS risk when flashing your device. Unfortunately, I will not be held responsible. Please use this as a means to get back to stock if something happens.
* DO NOT FLASH PIT (PIT not included).
* DO NOT CHECK ANYTHING IN ODIN EXCEPT "AUTO-REBOOT" AND "F. RESET TIME" (should be checked by default)
FAQ:
Question 1: Why does it have .md5 at the end?
Answer: Its in md5 format so in case your download is corrupted, you dont brick your phone.
Question 2: Can I rename it to just .tar and flash?
Answer: DO NOT rename it from md5 format. If it says the md5 sum is invalid, then it will not flash. Just re-download again and try again.
Question 3: Why does it give an error if i try to open in in 7zip/WinRAR/WinZip?
Answer: It should! Windows doesn't recognize when an md5sum is written to the end of a file. Don't panic!
Question 4: It passed the md5sum check, but failed writing on factoryfs. What do I do?!?
Answer: This is exactly what happened to me. Don't panic. Follow these steps exactly:
* Hold the power button to turn off.
* Make sure Odin is still open.
* Plug the USB cable in and hold the volume keys down at the same time. You will be on the screen with a "Phone ! PC" screen.
* Press Start on Odin.
* Once it completes, it will boot up into recovery. Don't worry about wiping cache or user data. Just choose "Reboot Device".
This flash takes quite a long period of time due to the size of the files. I'd say it took me 5 - 10 minutes for the flash to complete. Be patient! Afterwards it booted up with recovery, and chose Reboot Now.
Thanks:

go into the thread from lost1 with the stock rom and find the pit.pit file in the "additional" download. try that with repartition selected.

Though it's too late for me to try it myself, I'm sure this will be a great help to everyone! Thanks so much!

well use the .tar file in this thread, put it in the pda slot in odin. put the phone in download mode and connect it to the computer. have auto reboot selected. and hit start.
if that doesnt work then try it again except put pit.pit in the pit slot and the .tar from this thread in the phone slot, select repartition, put phone in download mode, connect it to the computer and hit start.

Can you wipe all user data and wipe cache from recovery (power phone off via power button or battery pull, hold both volune keys down, then hold power down until samsung appears on the screen and let go of ONLY power)? That should get you to boot.
This happened to beatblaster when we tested. Then he did the data wipes in recovery and booted up fine.
cant get recovery at all. tried all above. pit doesnt work
Thanks
Thanks for doing this, I am trying to learn how to dev on android and Ubuntu and was installing and also waiting for a way back before doing anything.

TO get into recovery to wipe data and cache, unplug your phone from the USB cable then make sure the phone is powered off. While the device is powered off press and hold the 2 volume buttons then while holding those 2 volume buttons down press and hold the power button. That will get you into recovery. WHile in there, you can wipe user data and wipe cache. Give that a go.
understood. However, as I was able to successfuly get into recovery by that method before attempting the ODIN restore, It will not enter recovery after ODIN flashed the stock.

Whoa. The only thing I can recommend from here is to try to flash via ODIN again or take the brick back to the store and swap for new. Next time, I'd recommend not fixing anything unless it's broken

[Q] Trying to go back to stock ROM, I now do not have a recovery

All I get now is the android with the yellow explanation. I know the step I missed..
I am trying the one in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154947
1. Download repacked stock rom, stock recovery and stock firmware 3.1 update:
Repacked stock rom:http://dl.project-voodoo.org/transformer-roms/3.0.x/
Stock recovery:http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...2&d=1306284085
http://usa.asus.com/Eee/Eee_Pad/Eee_...F101/#download
2. Copy the files onto your micro sd. Unzip stock update and place the Asus folder on root of sd card.
3. Boot into recovery. install repacked stock rom. Wipe all data, cache partition and dalvik cache. Reboot the tablet let it boot up then shut it down.
4. Boot into recovery and install stock recovery. Wipe all data, cache partition and dalvik cache. And then reboot and shut down.
5.
a.Boot into OS, there should be a notification for an update. select it and follow instuctions. Or
b.Boot into recovery(it should be stock recovery) then press up volume button within five seconds and the official update should install.
6. It should reboot automatically. When it does check about tablet info and check your apps to make sure the Super User icon is gone.
I forgot to install the stock recovery and immediately went to the next step. So my TF will boot now but I have no recovery to go too..

Get yourself the nvflash tool (You just have too look for it in Transformer Q&A Section) unzip it, install the drivers, if You haven't yet, get a nvflashable version of a rom (PRIME Rom has got an nvflash version) unzip the nvflash Rom to the nvflash tool, so recovery.img system.img and so on are in the same folder as download.bat and so on.
finally enter in APX mode on your transformer, and run download.bat.
when it's done, your tablet should restart.
Sent from my Asus tf101 running official Ice Cream Sandwich.
The android with yellow exclamation point is your stock recovery.
Try taking the "update" file out of the Asus folder and put it directly on the root of your sd card.
If that still don't work do the two file method.
well, I did the download.bat. But I turned it off when it just showed two lines.
Now it wont turn on at all..I am really screwing this up.
It just wont turn on at all..But it has a full charge. I knew I should have left it alone

You should not have turned it off. When the installation process was done, your tablet should start up by itself.
Try it again, but this time wait for the tablet to start up.
I redid it and followed it exactly as outlined.
It is now installing the stock update. I think I am ok now.
I appreciate all the help..

Problem with rooting Galaxy Note 10.1

I followed the steps to instal CWM on the Galaxy Note 10.1 using Odin v1.85. Everything went fine and it said "Pass" and everything, but whenever I press power button and Volume-Up together, then release Volume-Up when the logo comes up, I don't go to CWM, I just go to the Android logo and get options to:
1. Reboot System now
2. apply update from external storage
3. wide data/factory reset
4. wipe cache partition
5. apply update from cache
What went wrong? where is CWM?
Thanks

Did you UNcheck Reboot in ODIN? If the tab reboots the 3e (stock recovery) overwrites any custom recovery installed. Install CWM before rebooting. That worked for me.

Recover from cwm bootloop

You can recover from boot loop issue in cwm 5....
You can try one of the following:
Download cwm 6
Put it in ext sd card
Select install zip from sd card and chooze zip

First download odin3 v1.85
Download stock firmware
Extract both in a particular folder
Open odin
Go to Download mode in ur phone and press volume up
Connect ur phone to pc
If odin shows a yellow mark then u are ready to proceed
Mark PDA & Select The 7500ZSLD3_S7500HKTWLD3_S7500LD3_BRI_HOM
Click start in odin
Keep patience
After process is over odin will show pass
Now ur phone will reboot
(DO NOT REMOVE USB CABLE TILL ITS REBOOTED PROPELY)

Now again switch off mobile as as the process has not been completed yet

Very nice tutorial bro, but there is a much easier way to fix boot loop issue without flashing another recovery.
Download this file: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/gh7yw46d45kq57n/FUMu0MIdrm/FIX BOOTLOOP.zip
And flash it through bootlooping recovery.
All credits goes to mb-14 for the shell script, I only made it flashable.
You can also use adb to execute it.
Ya its also nice
Thanks any way

Another boot loop

Tried to change roms and somewhere in the process it got to the Samungs logo and wouldn't continue. I've tried changing recoveries and roms with the same results. I even tried CynagenMod rom and it just changes the logos of the boot screen. I can get into recovery and into download mode. Anyone have any ideas? I'm running out.
Please help!
I have this same problem
I have the N8013 version.
Installed a rom then tried to revert back to previous rom. and got stuck on the SAMSUNG logo. Can get into Download mode, and Recovery Mode.,,but nothing helps. I have tried several methods:
1. ODIN- CWM and TWRP recoveries, and a number of stock and custom roms floating around the troubleshoot forum...got" PASS" on the ODin after attempting to install stock tar images but tablet still gets stuck at SAMSUNG
2. Sideloads of zip files..I get 2 different errors that after doing research seem common on the websites. I suggested to use touchwin recovery instead of CWM, CWM gave another error. .Long story short sideloading is not working either.
Any thoughts, suggestions...help please!

Then installed the following tar file: N8013RootInjectedSystem from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831152&page=4
Got stuck on the Samsung screen.
From my experience you wipe before installing the rom.. Correct?

Did a factory reset from stock recovery and attempted to reboot, but still got stuck at the Samsung logo.
Any suggestions of how to proceed from here?
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. I do have 2 backups but they are on my external microsd, and will not load in stock recovery...not even able to access my micro sd from custom recoveries.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

HOW TO FIX A STUCK BOOT SCREEN ON GALAXY NOTE 10.1 N8013 4.1.2
1.) Download ODIN (just google it)
2.) FLASH ClockworkMOD (CWM) using ODIN to Device (just google it)
A.) Before pressing "START" Uncheck all options ( Auto-reboot, F-reset (re-partition should already be unchecked etc) Just hold the power button device to reset, it will reset on it's own upon start up
4.) Download Firmware Hotfile Linked By the Beautiful Samir who commented on this thread (just search for him). Make sure that fireware is designated for your particular device. No Samsung SIII firmware for Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1.
A.) Use the "Save to" Option not the "Open With" option...It's just better
5.) Enter Recovery Mode (CWM Mode) on device using the Power + Volume UP key
6.) Factory Reset Wipe
7.) Wipe Cache
8.) Advance Settings - Clear Davlink Cache & Fix Permissions
9.) Mounts & Storage - Format all except your external SD card (be careful and watch what your doing don;t want to delete anything else by mistake..cause you will be really..cough..upset)
A.) be forewarned that after these wipes you won't be able to get past the first Samsung logo screen, it will just remain there on the screen but have no fear it should be fixed when you download the Firmware. KAY. breathe easy.
B.) i mention this because my problem was that i was getting past the first Samsung logo but not past the second one, in the sense that it wasn't even appearing on the screen.
10.) Make sure that your USB drivers for Samsung are working, you can get the driver from Samsung site (Google it) or use KIES (Google it)
A.) if you use KIES i advise you to download it, get the Samsung USB drivers from it, then go to control panel on your desktop and Uninstall it, you can download it again later when your Note is working again but it seems to cause problems with ODIN, better safe than sorry i always say
11.) The Firmware can be a particularly long download, but once it is done and you have extracted it to a folder using WINRAR (remember the name of this folder) make sure that it is saved to your computer then shutdown and restart your computer
12.) Now with your newly restarted computer.........
1.) Open ODIN
2.) Put Samsung Note 10.1 into "Download Mode"
3.) Connect your Note to Computer using USB, it should make the ID:COM turn yellow
4.) Uncheck auto-reboot, F-reset etc
5.) go to PDA and look for the folder that you placed your firmware in :KIES_Blaahblaahblahh_blaah
6.) Press START
7.) you should see a download begin both on device and within ODIN....PASSSSSS (Green Box)
8.) Reset Computer Manually by pressing the power button
9.) turn back on Galaxy Note 10.1 and you should be all set
a.) don't be scared after you turn on your note and you get the Samsung logo and then the little android robot downloading some stuff (that is supposed to happen)
