Xbox DLNA - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

So I was reading an article on the verge about Xbox updates and apparently it supports DLNA now? With this functionality is my TV basically airplay compatible? What apps do you guys use for DLNA content pushing? Can I stream YouTube to the TV? I've never been a fan of MHL or HDMI, mini HDMI, etc or whatev

Search around dlna is basically a media streaming encoder as far as app wise I use playon and its always done great. If your gonna be using your phone I would start with all share since majority of the SR are working with it. However allshare is limited no you tube just basic videos music and pics
And by the way your streaming to the Xbox not they the tv lol

DLNA apps (okay, but lacking)
There are tons! Yes, many are less than well-developed.
These seem to work okay. Search for each on play.google.com.
- BubbleUPnP - seems best server for local/lan, but no web directly have to send/share from a browser
- iMediaShare - limited sites, takes forever to open (on my device), can send to it from browser but doesn't always work
- Twonky Beam - browser with DLNA, not very robust and no adblocking plugins etc. (doesn't seem to recognize PS3?)
- Sky Browser - mixed Chinese/English, similar to Beam, closes a lot
- Taglists by Eye-C - sort of a social playlist app, allows YouTube
- [XBMCFlinger or official XBMC Remote) - seems best if have XBMC, shares(flings) streaming link (not DLNA) for anything incl YouTube]
** I haven't found an ideal DLNAserver app-solution to stream (any)website embedded video (ie. mp4, flv). Suggestions are appreciated.
I've looked at (and only found partial solutions for) these possible solutions:
- Browser (plugin) recognizes embedded video (link) in page, then 'share' OR embedded player has DLNA 'send' button (beside fullscreen, like AirPlay in IOS),
- DLNA app with browser etc.,
- Player app (like VPlayer) with DLNA server (not just client)
- Scraper app with send/share or DLNAserver.
I also can't wait for WIFIdirect sending the android screen and games with no HDMI cable!

[Q] DLNA Player?

Is there currently a DLNA / UPNP PLAYER (going from a server to the phone.... not the other way around) for Android?
I believe the Galaxy S phones were supposed to have one? If so, did anyone extract them?
I also would like to know if something like this is available. I can play back mp3 and jpg on my Desire HD, but not video files.
My GT-I9000 Galaxy has a program called AllShare. I just use Media player 12 on my WiN7 machine and it allows me to stream to AllShare. I can play divx movies, tv series, and other videos just fine off my home wifi network.
Gmote for audio works great.
I was looking for more for the video option. I have a ton of divx / xvid on my server.
When I use astro with the smb addon..... I can search the server but then I get an error when Rockplayer tries to play it.
estrongs isn't able to let me login for some reason.
But since my NAS has dlna and upnp I'm just looking for a simple player or app that can search dlna.
I've been looking for an app of this nature for over a year. Still no luck. I would guess that the developers that would be closest to being able to get this going would be one of the video player developers such as Rockplayer or Vplayer alpha. They've already got multi format playback for videos. Now if only they could playback these formats as a stream from dlna/upnp.........
Bumping. With the release of android based tablets dnla / upnp video players are going to be a huge win.
Anyone with a good answer?

I agree, AllShare works great with my Samsung TV and my laptop being the server with all the video files. My laptop has ubuntu with MiniDLNA as the server. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=732005 has a link to dlna.apk (which is allshare) weird thing is all the permissions it asks for when installing :/ even wants access to SMS which i thought was weird
for video try http://www.appbrain.com/app/vlc-stream-convert/com.gmail.traveldevel.android.vlc.app with vlc on your pc
if you want only music http://www.appbrain.com/app/twonky-mobile-free/com.pv.twonkyremote works nicely with windows media player library shararing on local network
i've been searching for a good solution for a long time now. I have an ampache server setup now but its cumbersome, none of the ampache apps on android are that great.
Does twonky work over the internet?
no it doesn't but you can smoho get vlc stream and convert working over the internet
The best I have been able to come up with is using UPnP with an app called UPnPlay - in conjunction with VPlayer (which for me is working smoother than Rockplayer).
It's not dlna but it's something.

I have played with lots of different dlna players but by FAR.... the best app is called
iMediaShare - it works perfectly with windows 7/XP (windows media player). You can play music and videos that are on your pc on either your PC (using your phone as a remote control) or play them on your phone streaming them from your PC.
Also there are TV channels like Nasa or Youtube you can use your phone as a high tech tv remote.
Amazing!
P.S My frav before this was Twonk
P.P.S My frav phone browser/streamer is 'Browsix' (again AMAZING!)
P.P.P.S my title is not right sorry, it should say IMediaShare

[Q] Streaming Media from UPnP Server

I have a 4 TB NAS appliances on our home network loaded with all our family's media. This works great for our other networked devices (blu-ray players, wii, 360, etc) and using the builf in file manager on the G I can map to the NAS. Problem comes whenever it hits some xvid/divx/mpg video files, it just won't play.
Any recommendation of an app that can do media from a network server?
There is a dlna app that comes with the droid x that I don't believe is tied into the framework. I will see if I can link the files for it.
Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
Getting a decent uPnP client is on my list of ToDo's - I'm hoping that we can port the Archos video player over, just for that purpose.
Found a link to the APK, but I haven't tried it yet...
http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/droid-discussions/2818-droid-x-dlna-app.html
<edit> Parse Error: There is a problem parsing this package. when trying to install it via Root Explorer.
<edit2>Copied the link wrong which caused the parse error, APK installs correctly and the app runs fine as a DLNA server. ( I didn't verify connectivity), but it force-closes if you select "Network Settings Set up Wireless Access Points" possibly due to the TnT version of Settings?
either way, it makes your gTablet a server, not a client so you won't be browsing your NAS with this APK...
ah well, looks like we might be waiting for kernel source or a custom compiled kernel to get streaming video.
TheDude
I found an app called UPnPlay in the market that is working really well for me. If you are familiar with the Archos media player this has very similar capability. If you haven't done the market fix you probably won't find it though.
I was just watching a movie streaming from my Windows home server on my G tablet. Played nice.. Took it a few minutes to initially find my server but it did.

Nice tip used it and rockplayer worked perfect
This is a nice app - tried it and it found my media player (PS3MediaServer) fairly quickly. It did crash once, but it's certainly better than nothing.
It plays audio and photos well, but video seems a bit choppy on my setup so far. I have all different types of containers / codecs so I might have to find the sweet spot - Xvid / MP3 / AVI's seem to play best.
Thanks for the find!
No mkv support, but otherwise looks good

I think it's limited by the video player - and MKV support on the GTab is very limited, unfortunately.
Fantastic Find! Thanks Sprdtyf350-
Nice!
This finds my MythTV server. I am able to play .wmv videos on the MythTV server, with the default player. But it is unable to play the MythTV recordings of OTA digital (HDTV). These are a form of mpeg-2 video, similar to what a standard DVD is. If we can find a player that can play DVD files, then I think it will play MythTV recordings too.
ORB LIVE is the answer.
Orb is the Answer to this... if we can make it work.... I use Orblive on my EVO and it works amazingly. I can stream from anywhere and it decodes most files. It runs over Wifi, 3g and if I am on the same network as my server, it goes direct without hitting the Internet. I works GREAT.
But unfortunately, it doesnt work right on my GTAB. This could be specific to my device, but it cannot stream the files. This sucks because this is one of my main uses for buying this device. With Flash fixed, I can stream through the internet via the orb.com webpage. But the App works much better. If anyone that understands the codecs of these things can figure out how to make the orblive app work, it would be amazing.
To the G tablet users using UPnPlay, how do divx files do for seeking/searching? I'm using UPnPlay on my Evo with both Rockplayer and Vplayer and neither searches or seeks particulary well..... or at all. If the video file plays with Androids native video player, it seeks just fine.
I don't want to be forced to always begin playback and the start of the video and not be able to resume where I left off if I have to leave the player/app.

This actually looks pretty interesting thing i may try this out for new years, want to be able to play music from my gtablet via my phone like control the music playing on the gtablet from my phone (as the remote control) wonder if this would work hmmm, def will test tonight.
Just downloaded Twonky from the Marketplace and it works for me, streams audio, movies and pictures from my home media server. Supports standard DLNA compatible servers from what I can read. Also allows you to stream from the GTab to other DLNA compatible devices as well. Menu is in portrait mode, but the video will play landscape.
Was thinking about the same and saw this post and went off and looked around. There are a couple of other apps around as well, depends what you are using for a source.
Try Gmote
I've been using Gmote for streaming movies to my Gtab. It also has a pretty decent touchscreen mouse controller for when you're couchbound. Setup is really simple, and the interface for browsing your media is nice looking. Downsides are basic controls only for watching/listening and portrait orientation only for navigating menus and using the "remote control" feature. Playing movies though (landscape, of course), is very snappy and has a surprisingly lag free seek feature if you want to look around for a point mid-movie.
This tablet is actually pretty powerful and I stream most of the stuff to it from my server just using the ES File Manager. It supports SAMBA shares (windows shares).
I am not sure.. but the other day I had it decoding a 720p mkv file at around 10fps but no audio. I am sure that this is a player issue...
All of my 640*480 and lower AVI files play without a hitch though.

[Q] DLNA server client for HC 3.1

I have gotten TVersity to work as a server to my transformer running My Net as the client.

I use Plex on mine which seems to work well.Coming from an iPad and Air Video this program works well and it says it'll work out of your local network as well on the net, though I haven't tried it yet.
I use PlayOn at home and it will send video to my iPad, TF, PS3, and most other devices. It works great for Netflix for me since we don't have the Netflix app working on the TF.
Edit: I know it is a pay for app, but I've been extremely happy with it.
I find upnplay to be great. Basically it just streams the file into another video application of your choice so it supports whatever your player does. I like moboplayer personally, but to each their own.
Serviio works for me...

Okay, I'm sorry for the newbie question
But everywhere I go to look for Eee Pad and DLNA related topics, i keep reading about people who stream videos from their PC to the Eee Pad.
but that's not what I want.

Hi Ken,
Maybe my experience will be of any use to you. So here it goes.
I am (also) mainly interested in using the stock player (MyNet) for videos. For various reasons, primarily because of hardware acceleration. Unfortunately Android audio/video codec support is "pathetic" as well as container support. Probably those are choices due to licensing restrictions. If one does not have files in the natively supported format(s) the only option for on-the-fly transcoding is MPEG4/AAC in Transport Stream. WEBM could be a viable option but MyNet has no support for WEBM, sigh. Unfortunately Android explicitly states that transport streams are NON SEEKABLE (even locally).
I have tried: PMS Server, Mezzmo, Isedora, JR Media Center, Plex Media server, TV Mobili, Serviio, Twonky, Wild Media Server. Apart from the fact that some are not free only a few have support for transcoding into H264/AAC. Some are more configurable than others. Some have features that I am not very interested in, like automatic download from the INet of the covers, metadata etc. The ones that I played with the most are:
PMS Server: can't transcode to H264, free, very configurable, stable
Mezzmo: can transcode to H264/AAC, not free, very configurable, has some stability issues
Serviio: can't transcode to H264, free
Wild Media Server: very configurable, can transcode to H264/AAC, stable, very strict licensing (per MAC address of devices)
All of the DLNA servers that I have tried (even the non free ones) use third party FFMPEG or MENCODER for transcoding. And all exhibit a bug when transcoding the audio into AAC - half of the times the audio is transcoded with a very low bitrate (~6kb), despite correct transcoding settings, that MyNet doesn't want to play.
As you can see "native" client support for Android/TF101 is very limited. I have experimented also with transcoding to MPEG2/AC3 or MP3 in Program Stream container (or TS) and using other players (like UPnP + vPlayer). The results seem better but not without issues (sometimes not fluid, sudden closures of the player etc).
Hope it is of any help to you.
Cheers.
ArkMC is working well for me, basically as good as upnp player, lets you choose a 3rd party player to play your media.... but the gui is MUCH nicer than upnp player.

Hello,
I'm using the free application iMediaShare from Bianor available for free in the market.
this application makes me able to stream all the media from my tablet (Asus TF101) but also from my HTC Desire, on my SAMSUNG DLNA compatible TV, with no cables.
It was also possible to stream others media (like youtube directly from the android devise).
hope it was helpful.
PS : My tv is connected directly to my router with Ethernet and my devices connected to the router via WIFI.
can give skifta a try, it's free from the market.

[Q] How to stream Android audio output to UPnp/Airplay/DLNA ... whatever

Hi,
I have got several android devices (HTC Legend; Asus Transformer) and also a media player box (Freebox) that supports both AirPlay and Upnp.
I am very disappointed to see that Android (out of the box, or any app) does not support streaming the raw audio output from this devices to the air (Wifi).
I mean, there are (billions) of apps out there that pretend to be able to share your media with DLNA.
They work more or less.
But it seems not possible to send the very output of the sound card other the Air.
Hence, it is not possible to stream Spotify,Grooveshark,SoundCloud,Youtube .. music to my nice Wifi devices.
iPhone/Pad users are able to send their audio through the Air, since AirPlay is built-in iOS.
Why couldn't I ?
After some research, I found why there is no such app on Android market :
It seems that the Android API purposely prevent from recording / accessing the low level audio output.
It might be to prevent people from ripping / downloading music that is only streamed to them.
So my question is :
Is there some work done to enable output audio capture / streaming for rooted devices ?
Either with an App or in alternative mod (Cyanogen ?)
Please point me to some resource, or advice me where I could post
a feature request for Cyanogen.
Thanks in advance,
Raphael
Thanks Raphael,
Not to steal this thread or anything, but I've spent soooo much much time trying to figure this out as well. The closest I've come to a STABLE solution is Twonky's ability to stream music that's stored on my phone to my WDTV Live (DLNA), but that's not what I want. I've practically given up on this, so if any one out there knows anything, please help!!!
Check out ArkMC, it's DLNA certified client, can subscribe to YouTube channels, stream YouTube content to DLNA/UPnP devices, and has feature ""Send to external player" - allows to share current playback to other renderers.
ArkMC on xda
Before I switch to android, I was using an iPhone. and today, the only feature I really miss is airplay. I can't understand why google didn't yet implement a system wide streaming service.
AH HA!
after hours of searching I find I'm not the only one searching for this!!!
I too would love to have this function, I currently use the Last.fm app on my phone but would love to sream it to my upnp/dlna hifi, I used to use the xbmc last.fm addon but since last.fm made changes to their api it no longer works
Still, I will keep searching and if I find a way I'll let you know, it seems such a simple idea, surely a missing link.
In the mean time you CAN share Soundcloud with a dlna device from your android, using skifta, its a bit limited but does work well..... no if only they would add a last.fm channel.

I'm going to recommend that to him. I can't test it myself, that is why I hope you might take a look at it, as well. But besides Skifta I also found a possible solution today. I know I know. Signing up as a new user and the first post is about an app recommendation looks suspicious. But it isn't. Here is what I found with Google (google. com/search?q=Android+Soundcloud+DLNA) and (play.google .com/store/search?q=UPnP+OR+DLNA+soundcloud+&c=apps) today (besides these comments here) is this app named Eye-C Taglists created by Eyecon, via a news article written by Joe Sirianni on talkandroid .com. I'm not allowed to post links as a new user, so I'm quoting their article and the descriptions from the Google Play Store:
talkandroid.com said:
Stream Playlists Of Videos, Pictures And Music To DLNA Devices With Eye-C Taglists
At any point, just push play, and the feed comes to life – on your phone, TV, Apple TV (even from an Android phone), PC and more.
Here’s How It Works:
Step 1 – Find videos, pictures and music you think are interesting in YouTube, Facebook, Picasa, and now SoundCloud.
Step 2 – Play your picks on your mobile phone, connected TV, Apple TV or other Airplay and DLNA devices.
Step 3 – Play content individually or as taglists. These lists can come from your friends, or they can come from users tagging a video with a certain term, like #startaparty.
Step 4 – Easily add another video, song, or picture to that list, by tagging it #startaparty – and watch your playlist change and grow as people interact with it.
So if you’ve been looking for an app to supply an endless stream of content from multiple users and platforms like YouTube, Picasa, Facebook and your own personal music playstist, Eye-C Taglists can deliver. The application will work on most Android devices but can also play on hansets supporting DLNA (wireless push content).

Eyecon turns your Android device into your home media manager remote control.

[QUOTE="Taglists by Eye-C" app on Google Play Store]
Eyecon - Called "automagical" by Gizmodo, Taglists™ lets you create and share playlists that mix free music, videos, and photos from multiple places, including Facebook, YouTube, Picasa, and SoundCloud.
- Create a Taglist by tagging songs, videos, and photos with the same hash-tag
- Share Taglists on Twitter and Facebook automatically, and let friends add to your playlist to build your own shared channel that others can watch on any computer
- Play Taglists on your Android phone or use Airplay or DLNA to play them on connected TV, A/V receivers, iPod docks, stereos, Apple TV and more.
Tech Specs (the geeky stuff)
Eye-C plays on your Android phone with an OS Version higher than 2.1. It also plays on other screens and speakers using both Airplay and DLNA standards, which means it can play back on devices including A/V receivers from Pioneer, Denon, Yamaha, Sony and more, connected TVs from Samsung, LG, and Panasonic, set top boxes including WD (Western Digital) and Popcorn Hour, as well as Xbox 360 (with Windows Media Player enabled. Make sure it's on and THEN look for other players. When it works, give us 5 stars – this was hard!).
Note: Taglists now supports Airport Express on Android versions greater than 2.1. It doesn't work well on some Android tablets or some HTC Android phones (Eris and Hero) – we're working hard to correct this, and we expect improvements in the next few weeks.

And there is an app called "Private Dancer" from 'Apps by Ken'.
Private Dancer said:
Private Dancer is a UPnP Media Renderer for Android. It is designed to be used on a device attached to speakers and power. Unlike other UPnP Android applications, Private Dancer is designed for always-on (headless) use. It contains no flashy UI and its only purpose is to provide a rock-solid, dependable wireless audio service for your home network.
What is a UPnP/DLNA Media Renderer?
The name is awkward but Private Dancer essentially provides wireless speakers for your network. It relies on the UPnP* protocol to communicate with other devices on the network. Many devices support this protocol and there are many Android apps available that can be used to send audio to Private Dancer.
What is meant by 'headless'?
While Private Dancer can be used on any Android device, it sports features that make it ideal for a tablet or unused Android phone that can be connected to speakers and power. The service can run on boot and aims to be always available, and generally once setup does not require direct user interaction.
How does it work?
Install the application and run it. Select startup options and enable the service. Once enabled, a notification appears and the UPnP/DLNA service is available on the network. Connect to the service via a supported UPnP client, such as Samsung's AllShare media application to play music from your phone or other UPnP device.

I also just found the "PS3 Media Server"
PS3 Media Server said:
PS3 Media Server is a DLNA-compliant UPnP Media Server.
Originally written to support the PlayStation 3, PS3 Media Server has been expanded to support a range of other media renderers, including smartphones, televisions, music players and more - all of which are listed on the right.
Because it is written in Java, PS3 Media Server supports all major operating systems, with versions for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.
The program streams or transcodes many different media formats with little or no configuration.
It is powered by MEncoder, FFmpeg, tsMuxeR and AviSynth, which combine to offer support for a wide range of media formats.
This is a mature project, with a number of plugins available for streaming from sources such as Grooveshark and SoundCloud as well as some on-demand TV providers.

SoundCloud for PS3 Media Server
Hi all. I just wanted to announce that I've started to develop a SoundCloud plugin. It is called SoundCloud4PMS or SoundCloud4PS3
I'm happy to announce the new version v0.3 which enables you to not only play your favorites but also to browse and listen SoundCloud in general.
I'm happy to announce the new version v0.4 which adds support for browsing and listening Sets and incorporates a fix due to a change of the SoundCloud API.
this plugin does work for me (at least for "favorites") using my android phone as renderer

As said, I can't link to this stuff directly as a new user, just search for it. And as said I can't test it myself. Going to recommend it to my friend next weekend and I hope one of these solutions plays Soundclound quite well.
Too bad.
With Taglists broken, there is no more solution to stream spotify / Soundcloud to Airplay !
I have found a thread on Android Support Forum :
productforums (dot) google.com/d/topic/mobile/emdh2ZccLRQ/discussion
(Since I cannot post URLs due to stupid anti-spam rules, please update the link above)
Please comment / add your voice to make it change.
Or should we ask to XDa developpers to work on this feature for alternatives firmwares ?
I switched from Ipad2 to Nexus10 and I lost 50% of my tablet use! No (good, neither average) app for making music and no airplay. I tried everything but it's clearly impossible to stream audio output on android.
Google does nothing to support airplay and developers say that this is currently impossible because of Android software limitations. Pathetic.
There is only Cyanogen which can save us one day
as far as I know, streaming overall system sound linke Bluetooth is not possible on iphone. But more apps do: Spotify for iOS has airplay integrated
Android can do it but not without help. Vanilla builds (cm) just don't seem to have the native support that HTC and Samsung have. Both of which have native UPnP built-in
I'm currently using deezer, and 'd like to be able to stream the audio to a Raspberry Pi (airplay, upnp, whatever), but didn't find any possibilities
tx
I'd love to be able to stream the audio from my Netflix via Airplay. I don't want to have to buy a Miracast box.
I also wish one day it is possible to stream to apple TV or Samsung smart TV
let's start with a decent android dock to play music with a remotw
So I'm not the only one!
Currently I'm using Bubble UPnP to select and play music on my popcorn hour. But I'm looking for a way to stream all media-output to a dlna supported/wifi device. (for youtube, grooveshark and spotify)

I'm also searching for it. For Youtube you could use TwonkyBeam, but this is not possible for only-audio-receivers.
