Hey guys,
Did some searching but couldnt find anything about my specific problem. Recently installed a couple new ROMs and when I was backing up and restoring between them (with CWM) I somehow lost my IMEI and it was showing as B000000000. I made the mistake (you learn the hard way I guess!) of not backing up my IMEI beforehand, but my first question is how could it get lost by performing CWM backup/restores? Improper data/cache wiping?
I came across the IMEI repair writeup using QPST to manually write a new NV and that seemed to work. However when I rebooted, the IMEI was one number short (ie- my IMEI is 15 numbers and the phone was displaying the first 14 but cutting off the last number) and I still have no service, and I'm not roaming. My second question is, does anyone have any ideas where to go from here??
Thanks!
Mike

There is stuff in the last pages about downgrading your phones radio if there is issues. I don't really know because I haven't had this issue and had backed up all my stuff before messing with my phone. Either way questions about that issue should be asked in there.
Good luck!

Thanks for moving the thread, sorry about the misplacement. Mercuie - I tried the method you linked me to and ran into an issue with the software. When I plug my phone in, my computer's dev manager sees it on port COM14, and when I run the software there is an option in the dropdown menu to select COM14, but it is unable to connect. The ERI status just sits there trying to connect and if I click anything else in the GUI it crashes the program. A reboot of my phone and computer doesn't help. I have MS Vista with .NET 3.5 installed, but not sure if I have the right diagnostic drivers...
edit: tried using the samsung MEID repair tool again and this time when i try to connect to COM14 a red ! comes up and says "In user or invalid port". Not sure why since device manager is definitely still showing my phone as COM14, but it's not crashing anymore
I think my issue is resolved guys =) The QPST injection worked, I just needed to wait long enough for it to reestablish connection on Verizon's network. Thanks!
just kidding! I jumped the gun with my previous post. My mobile data was restored for about 10 minutes then it was lost again. Not really sure what's going on here and why i have intermittent connection. My IMEI in Setting>About Device>Status is correct.
Probably need to reprovision your phone/sim card.
I don't have the key sequence handy ... do a search in these forums for reprovision.
Edit: Enter *2767*3855# into your dialer. This will factory reset your phone, which includes wiping your internal sd.

thanks for the reply. I backed up everything including my internal sd card onto my external card and ran the reprovision sequence. The phone reset, but everything in /mnt/sdcard is still there and I still do not have service. IMEI/MEID seem to still be intact as well my phone number, but Network is Unknown, Mobile network state is disconnected, ERI version is none, and IP address is unavailable. Thoughts??
Edit: tried the reprovision a second time and now I'm Roaming
Bump.. anything guys n gals?

Don't know if this will help, but try removing your sim card and rebooting phone. Shut down phone, reinsert card, reboot and see what happens.
If still no service, reprovision again.
Edit: If you are roaming, you have service. The roaming prompt is a persistent problem with imei restoration that I don't think has been solved yet.

Have you tried to reprovision since getting it fixed? Also, the tool that is linked that you tried and didn't have any luck with is suppose to fix your problem. I haven't tried it but others have had success with the same problem that you are having.

No luck. I removed the SIM, rebooted and it had nothing, then powered down, reinserted the SIM, and rebooted and still roaming. Also tried another reprovision and same result. I know I technically still have service since I can make/receive calls, but I have nothing in the way of mobile data and don't want to turn roaming data on for fear of extra charges. Is it worth brining to Verizon at this point to see if they can do anything? I mean I don't really see them doing much beyond factory reset and playing with the SIM card, which I've already done.
@HHF2:
Yes I reprovisioned multiple times after restoring my IMEI with no luck. The QPST tool worked to restore my IMEI. I saw the Samsung repair tool had an option for ERI repair I believe, but I was never able to get it to connect to my phone via COM port without crashing.
I would try a different computer if you have installed all of the correct drivers for the computer that you are using.

Think he already tried this ... there is still no guaranteed way to fix this problem.
Most people have resolved it by getting replacement phones ...
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
No luck from a different computer. No luck with a replacement SIM card i got from Verizon. A member in another thread posted about how he was in the same situation and was able to flash a downgraded modem and get the Samsung repair tool to repair his ERI, then flash the new modem again. I will try that route next. If still nothing then I'll probably have to Odin back to stock and see if that fixes it and if not then lobby for a new phone :\

I've encountered a number of people (myself included) who have used this tool (which was made specifically to repair roaming status, mind you), to repair the roaming issue after an IMEI injection. So yes, there is a guaranteed way to fix the roaming issue. No point in getting a replacement handset.
OP: I was able to get the connection for ERI repair after downgrading my modem too, so I definitely recommend trying that. If you can get that to connect, you should be back in business.

Glad to hear! So before I do anything just wanted to verify... How did you go about flashing the downgraded modem? Just placing it in the root of your external sd card, rebooting into [CWM] recovery, doing a data/cache wipe/factory reset, and installing from zip (VRLF2)? Then run the Samsung repair tool and once (hopefully) data is restored, do the same thing to flash the latest modem (VRLHE)? My next step was to Odin back to stock but I'd like to try this method first since it seems to have worked for you.

Good for you.
Unfortunately, not everyone has had the same luck.
Hope the OP has the same fortune as you.
Edit: This sounded unnecessarily dickish. I hope this works for the OP ... I do know owners for whom this did not, for whatever reason, work.

Okay So my phones IMEI has been a bunch of 0's since maybe january of this year. I had a efs backup on my computer but someone wiped it and now i dont have that folder anymore to restore it. Ive tried a few one clicks and nothing fixed it..but my question is, can having a bad IMEI have a negative effect on my phome? What are the problems to this? And just so you all know, my phone has been running fine since the number became corrupted. I dont have any of the bad symptoms that everyone else gets.
Keep in mind, im not trying to fix it(i have lost all hope for that Lol) I just want to know what can happen because of a corrupted IMEI. Thanks In advance.
You can't receive or send data to your carrier and that is all.
Once your phone has lost its IMEI it's as good as a iPod Touch.
What do you mean data to my carrier? i wouldnt say its as good as an iPod touch since i can still make calls, text and have data. The only thing i have noticed is that when i log into my tmobile account, it doesnt show what kind of phone i have. But thats all.
Thanks for the quick reply btw.
Well the only way to get back imei to normal is to restore thru 1-click heimdall or whatever method you use to go back to stock.
I know, I've tried plenty of one clicks and none of them restored it. So I gave up on trying to restore it a long time ago. But the phone itself is working perfectly normal.
Check under /sdcard/aroma and see if there's an efs backup in there. If you installed any roms that used my aroma installer there's a good chance your efs partition got backed up.
I also noticed that yesterday before I fixed my imei with my efs backup I couldnt access voicemail at all. Ate you having that same problem?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using Tapatalk 2
I don't even have an aroma folder on my SD card FB lol. But thanks for the suggestion.
And actually, I can still access my voicemail.
Well, i guess im just lucky that everything still works even with a screwed imei number.
dont mean to jack this thread but fb im having the same problem i have the aroma back up how do i restore the efs back up

I'll need to post instructions soon or post a restore zip for you guys. Are you on ICS? It might be easier to try a one click back to gingerbread and to reflash your ICS rom.
Don't expect me to make the zip but maybe a savvy user can give you instructions on restoring the backup using adb.
Basically what you'll need to do if the one click to gb and reflash to ICS doesn't work is:
Flash to gb
Reboot to recovery
Mount /efs
Untar the efs backup into /efs
Reboot and test voice, data, imei
I'd give you specific commands but I'm not at home
ok thanks i dont like the one clicks. when i use them to go back to gb my imei is unknown but when i use your gb starter pack and flash a gb rom it works great so i think ill stick with gb

That is not correct. I got screwed over on an eBay buy, the phone was blacklisted by T-Mobile. I've been running on a null IMEI for months with no problems. Edge, 3G, HSDPA, phone calls, texts: no issues.

Lol thanks for correcting me, as far as I know you can't do stuff with the carrier, but I have no clear evidence of that. But if its working fine for you then I feel bad for other people who has no IMEI and can't do stuff.

Huh, I wonder if it is related to the towers in their area, I've heard also of a person with an SGSIII running on T-Mobile with null IMEI. I have not been able to connect to AT&T, although I was able to connect to them with the original IMEI.
First off Im new here. Well I haven't posted on xda before, but I've spent enough time reading.... anyway, have an vzsgs3 cwmr bootldr unlocked flashed taste of beans... then wiped flashed slimrom and then nandroid'D stock over that.got the wonderful nonvzw triangle of death.... after that I flashed stock root66 via Odin. Lost my imei in that whole process. Didn't have it backed up either.went through pretty much every post that related to the sgs 3 and imei. Now I have a 4g ONLY device.I also found out that you cannot make or receive calls on 4g and the tower negotiation/propagation takes place over the cdma network. If I restart my phone every time I move to a different tower I can use it on 4g to surf the web. No call or texts ever. If I leave the range of a tower, I get a /0 slash zero for reception. Reboot and 4g is back. This is strictly 4g ONLY.it will not and cannot connect to the mobile network .try to dial out, error: mobile network not available. Factory reset several times. Phone is back to oob stock. I would be tempted to say there is something mucked up in the nv rf items. By flashing and resetting, it would set everything back to stock except the radio FW. Switched Sims with a working one... same. Imei is fixed, about status shows it correct as well as the correct phone number and everything else. Where should I go from here.? Let me know what info u need and ill post it.thx!

No one is gonna reply because you suck at writing stuff out and cant understand what you are saying.
As for your phone, the imei has been restored but the phone is still borked? Did you odin back to stock after all those issues? That would have reflashed your modem. Did you check the md5 on the crap you flashed too?

I would odin back to stock if that doesn't work. Try to instal one of these basebands from the link. I'm pretty sure flashing stock with odin does thatthough. I'm a noob but that is my best guess. Good luck.
There is a tool on here that you can fix your IMEI with, if you haven't already. I would try to reprovision the SIM if you have done everything else.

My problem seems a bit confusing. It is not identifying my SIM CARD or any other SIM card as a matter of fact. Infact, its not even identifying its IMEI number as well as it only SAYS no Network. However GPS and also WIFI works perfectly.
I restored the phone back to its original Factory settings, using Odin, and even messed with the efs file etc, but it still doesn't work. So I'm not sure if I'm doing it right or probably a problem with the radio ???(Hardware problem??)
Can you assist ?
I've used this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1729838
as well as some others for using Odin etc.
Nothing seems to work

Hey, have you resolved your problem? I am in the same situation and still searching for something... I've tried flashing with odin + the modem, pda, pit, CSC and still it hasn't solved my IMEI problem... I've copied my EFS file to an external source, for the safety of it... I am not sure why this problem appeared, since I've bought it second hand just for the Mobo, since mine was fried... And the guy I;ve bought it from is now where to be found... so... any help would be extremely appreciated!
Happy coding!
I've had the exact same situation. Sim wasn't recognized, the *#06# gave me null/null also. My friend saved it when he showed me this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1895500&highlight=efs
It works now, with the exception that it displays the AT&T World Phone splash screen (I'm on Rogers).
Please help me!
i have bought a used infuse. my problem is same as you guys. Its does shows network when i start my phone. within seconds the network goes down and i needed to restart my phone to get network. Yup it shows network bar with out service name, imei no and baseband version. After that i root my phone to unlock my phone. I have successfully unlocked, but network wont last for a minute or so.
Then i tried with leaving phone with my charger. Then it works, it wont lost any network. Works as charm,
And i replaced my battery. No effect!
Conclusion is I have to consider my phone as a landline, always charging!
Should i go for hardware check?
Not sure if the two are related, but I cannot get data over the network and my IMEI number is all zeros. This all seemed to happen after I tried to connect to AT&Ts network under "Mobile Networks." I have the 4g/3g icon at the top indicating I have data, but I cannot access any web pages and apps have no connection. I looked at my IMEI number and it is all zeros, something I haven't noticed before. I have no idea if this would cause the problem. I tried flashing back to stock, but still cannot access internet. I'm at a bit of a loss here. I tried looking up solutions but found nothing. I also seem to have lost my EFS backup, but I do have my original IMEI number written down. Is there a way to enter in a IMEI number manually?
Thanks for any help!
Yes they are related. Some have had luck reflashing the stock Rom. Which Rom have you tired and how (heimdall or Odin) (kc1 or kj6)?

P.S. I am able to send/receive texts and calls. Should I still be able to do that with a broken IMEI?
Text and calls, but no data is the no imei norm.
Not sure, are you using the one click from that thread or the one that is linked in last post? Jk6 is the most recent.
If I was in your shoes, and the one clicks didn't solve it. I would dig through the development thread, find Odin & whitehawks kc1 cleanup & try that. It would require removing the drivers that heimdall installed & reinstalling drivers through Samsung's kies. The Odin thread should explain that. But, that's just me.
You're not the first with this problem. Wish you luck.

Just throwing out an idea here.. would deleting the efs folder cause that folder to be rebuilt when the Rom is installed?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
the EFS partition gets rebuilt upon reboot if the partition is empty, which makes you wind up with the all 0 IMEI. The best bet is for you to restore a backup. All the ICS/JB roms we are using undergo an EFS backup when you upgrade to ICS/JB from GB as a precaution. As was stated earlier in the thread some users had problems going back and forth between BML and MTD ROMs.

Where does it make a backup to? I think I've had the all 0 problem for a while now, so it probably backed up a bad version anyhow. Regardless, my data is working even with the broken IMEI numbers, so all is well I suppose
The team acid updater.sh script backs it up to /sdcard/backup/efs.tar
See if anything is checked in "access points names " in mobile network setting , seems like it gests unchecked sometimes when i flash new ROM ,then i have to go to this setting to get network connection back on my phone .

followed by: "firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in kies & try again"
Here's the issues: I did not ensure that I had the correct drivers and didn't have kies set up (new to kies). I can not find drivers for this exact model, and the computer is not recognizing my phone when it's plugged in (no opportunity to explore phone files)
Right now I have the sd card out (it came from a sorry explanation for a droid from straight talk (lg optimus, I think). I CAN STILL, HOWEVER, GET INTO DOWNLOAD MODE.

I've lost service as well. I rooted using the Impactor method. Root was successful, I downloaded and successfully flashed the latest version of CWM Touch Recovery, then I flashed the newest version of BeanStalk ROM. The phone wouldn't get passed the "Select Language" section without bootlooping. So I pulled the battery, booted back into Recovery, wiped and re-installed my Nandroid backup. After I restored, my phone wouldn't receive service or data. Also, under About Device/Status, the network now says Unknown, Mobile network type says Unknown, Service state says Out of service, and my Phone number also says Unknown. How do I re-register my device back onto the Straight Talk network?? If I install CM 10.2 will that fix my issues? Or am I at the mercy of the Straight Talk Customer Service gurus? Is there anyway to manually program my device back onto the network?

Sorry, bad news... that QR code points to the app i already sent you.. so i guess that's not going to help.
I found this though..

Might be worth trying to set your settings to that to see what happens.
I know when i flashed CM10.2 and CM11 on mine, the data settings worked without me having to change anything.. so that maybe something worth trying.
No luck with anything. I believe my problem was flashing a native Verizon TW ROM, instead of just going the AOSP route. Maybe the kernel or the modem/radio conflicted with it somehow, kicking it completely off of the network. What is the PRL supposed to be? My PRL is set to "1". I'm thinking that could be the reason it can't see the network.
Is there any way to either manually program the phone onto the network, or either reflash the stock kernel or radio?

For what it's worth, check this out. It's possible CM is now ready for your device, but do not quote me on this.

There isnt really a way to program the device manually...but might i make a suggestion? try resetting the phone. now that you have the nandroid restore done, try going ahead and doing a factory reset from the settings. Surprisingly it helped my issue.
I've ran into this problem myself. I tried restoring to a backup and installing different ROMs. The only thing that worked was to Odin back to stock ST and start fresh. I have the file if anyone needs it
