[Q] Stock ICS Bootloop

Hi guys, i have a problem with my Sensation, OTA ICS update giving me boot loop
So here's the story:
I used custom ROM, then decided to go back to stock ROM
Flash RUU 2.3.4 then S-on, all seems normal at this point
OTA update a few times to ICS
First few update phone still normal, then ICS update and boot loop
Now the main problem:
I can't seem to do anything anymore to the phone
Phone is locked with HBOOT 1.27.000
When I try to go to recovery or factory reset it just goes to boot screen and boot loop
Steps I have tried:
Try to install RUU again by renaming zip file to PG58IMG.zip and it just says version is outdated (or similar, I forgot)
Try to flash various firmware using bootloader, but it just says parsing zip file then nothing
Try to flash firmware using CMD (flash zip) with admin privilege, but it says not allowed
Try to flash recovery img (Stock, CWM, 4ext), using CMD it says OK but nothing changes
Try to flash boot img (Stock, customs from Revolution HD 6.6.7) it says OK but nothing changes
Unlocked bootloader using HTCdev then retried all the steps above still the same
Please help, I don't know what else I can do...
Sorry if too long and confusing...
If your at the boot loader then it look like you can access fastboot. If you can there is a program called android flasher ( for windows computers and can be found in the sensation thread here on xda, if not i can upload it to dropbox for you). You can flash img's from there. Also make sure to read all instructions carefully because the Htc dev unlock has issues with bootloaders (BE CAREFUL), the revolutionary method is better, and give you a full unlock.

Hey Darryll, thanks for the response
I tried the android flasher, but when I tried to flash boot.img, it says error, your phone needs ENG bootloader.
I don't thinkI can use the revolutionary method tight now, because my hboot is already at 1.27.000
Do you know what might be causing the boot loop for my phone?

[GUIDE] How to fix the «Wifi Error»

Greetings Everyone !
Flashing a ROM can bring you problems. One of these's problems is the «Wifi Error» or the «Data Error» where you can't enable wifi or access to Data because it's written Error or you don't have mobile data.
Major Problem 1 -> S-ON ROM flash without 4ext SmartFlash Enabled
People who are flashing ROM while being S-ON needs to enabled SmartFlash [GUIDE] Flashing roms with S-ON and 1.27+ HBOOT
You only need to do this ONCE, once you have flashed your first custom ROM and enabled permanent smartflash, you don't need to this any more!
Major Problem 2 ->RIL/Radio Match
RIL/Radio Match is not required if you want internet to work. When you have the «Wifi Error» the problem can be from an RIL/Radio bad match. You need to have the good RIL/Radiofor you. Here's a list of RIL/Radio A better match = Better result (wifi speed, etc.) You can use this app, GETRIL to find if your RIL/Radio match.
Major Problem 3 ->Kernel
T-Macgnolia said:
Let me explain the boot.img a little so you know why it is so important. The boot.img does just watt te name implies, it is what boots the Android ROM on your device. Now let me explain this a little further, the Android OS runs on top of eat is called a Lenox kernel. This means that your bootloader boots the Lenox kernel and the hardware of the device. The Lenox kernel then boots the Android OS. The kernel is also te connection between the hardware and the Android OS. So you see if the kernel is not compatible with the system that is on te system partition you will have troubles like WiFi not working or other I hardware reliant functions. So when you flash a new ROM and you are HTC Dev unlocked you will have to flash the boot.img for te ROM are you will more than likely have troubles.

How to Flash boot.img:
1. First flash/install the rom via recovery
2. Get the boot.img and flash it via fastboot

As long as you stay in HTC unlocked bootloader the above steps are necessary to flash the rom completely to prevent bootloops and wifi errors

Other Issues:
Try this App :WiFix
Then go to recovery and wipe cache\dalvic cache\cache+dalvic,Wifi should be Fixed. If it doesn't find any network, delete the file /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.

If you are getting very poor or no WiFi signal, you might take the back case off, and check the little golden pins above the camera. They may have gotten bent.

The antennas are the copper colored prongs on the inside of the phone case, and the inside of the phone. You can google it to get a better picture . Some say to CAREFULLY and SLIGHTLY lift the antennas to help with better reception but they are very fragile and the last thing you want to do is break them off so if you decide to do this, just do it slightly and very softly. You don't want to move them too much. I tired this myself to see if it would help with better reception, but honestly didn't see much difference. But it's worth a try. Just be very careful. I do hope you get your Wi-Fi problem solved. What you can do is take the device to a local cell phone repair shop. Perhaps they can fix the problem. And usually the local shops are quite reasonable in price. This might be a better option for you. This way the shop can trouble shoot and fix the problem with your Wi-Fi. It's another option.. hope this is helpful. Best of luck.

if you are S-ON then yes
I realise I'm digging up an old thread
My wife has a Sensation and it is Rooted, S-On, Hboot 1.27
Turns out I after following the 4EXT smartflash tutorial, reflashing the boot.img and then reflashing the rom over the top without wiping and selecting the same kernel the wifi is working again.
Thanks very much for the tutorials - so glad I didn't have to go down the paperclip shorting of the sd-card method.

Thank you, I'll do it, but now I'm facing a new problem I don't know how to solve: I'm in S-Off, I've gone RUU and the bootloader is locked and I'm unable to flash an image:
$ fastboot flash recovery image.img
sending 'recovery' (4876 KB)...
OKAY [ 1.132s]
writing 'recovery'...
FAILED (remote: not allowed)

I can't even unlock it using official HTC unlock code:

sending 'unlocktocken' (0 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.152s]
writing 'unlocktocken'...
FAILED (remote: not allowed)
finished. total time: 0.468s
I've read tens of thread for unlocking Sensation with hboot 1.27, every one of them tell me to use official htcdev unlock code but I does not work, I don't know why.
Can you plese help me or point me to the right thread?
But if you're S-OFF unlocked bootloader isn't needed I think.
But what looks weird is that your recovery.img is only 4876KB.
Try this 4EXT (It's 1.0.0.5 taken from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631861 )
https://www.dropbox.com/s/6ybcxyrpzv88uik/recovery.img
And flash that.

How did you unlock the bootloader first time?
After the s-off the bootloader will return to locked ,
Do you have root?
after rooting your device you can flash universall firmware 3.33 it will unlock the bootloader ( bootloader will say 3.33 Firmware ) CHECK MD5 before flashing or if you have diffrent md5 you can brick you device (read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767 and here you can find the 3.33 universal firmware )

This is my (complicated) story:

Don't plug your USB cable into a USB 3.0 port; plug it into a USB 2.0 port. Also, don't plug the cable to a USB hub, just plug it into a USB port on the computer itself.

You have locked bootloader... Thats the only reason I can come up with
When you go to bootloader.. If the top says "LOCKED"
You have locked bootloader
Flash a patched bootloader if you are soff (either revolutionary or juopunutbear)
For revolutionary hboot.. Check the end of first post of firmware thread by kohr-ah in sensation development section and download the "hboot from 1.29.0000 to 1.27.1100" file and flash it (just like fimware)

For revolutionary hboot.. Check the end of first post of firmware thread by kohr-ah in sensation development section and download the "hboot from 1.29.0000 to 1.27.1100" file and flash it (just like fimware)

Youre getting that because youre not rooted... you have to be rooted and bootloader unlocked for it to work

[Q] ISO hox rogers 4.1.1 / 3.18 ruu..

Phone is the HTC One X, 4.1.1 / 3.17.6312 (evita )
Carrier is Rogers
Unlocked, s-on
Custom recovery installed ( openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.0-evita.img)
And was rooted with (Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed)
Phone seemed to be stable and working fine, But the ear speaker wasn't working ( couldn't hear callers unless I went into speaker mode )
Figured I would try a re-install to see if that would help.. But in the process I must have formatted to corrupted the OS...
After trying: C:\Android>fastboot flash system OTA_EVITA_UL_JB_45_S_Rogers_WWE_3.17.631.2_0.23
a.32.09.29_10.128.32.34a_release_299850qstr7rxdbfuofl6j.zip the os won't boot... stays in HTC quietly brilliant screen..
I am able to get into fastboot / bootloader / recovery. I'm wondering if it's the OTA ... Perhaps a newer RUU ? The only one I can find is outdated and I can't install cause s-on..
RUU_Evita_UL_Rogers_WWE_1.94.631.3_Radio_0.18as.32.09.28L_10.103.32.24L_release_268972_signed.exe

Anyone know of a RUU for 3.17 ( rogers / evita )??? Or perhaps an alternative way to re-install the OS?
Cheers and Thanks.

did you flash the ota using stock recovery with a locked bootloader? I'm assuming you didnt supercid since youre s-on and with rogers.
to ota with s-on you must flash stock recovery and relock.

Are you sure you have 3.18 software on your device? Looking at the output, it's not accepting because you're using the wrong RUU.
Find redpoints index thread in the dev section, it will have the correct RUU in there.
EDIT: Well... Looking at OP it seems you are using the wrong RUU. 1.94 isn't what you have on your phone.

Thats exactly the issue... The only executable ruu I can find is the 1.94 version... I need 3.17. ( 3.18 was my typo in the title .oops ) and for some reason flashing the 3.17 OTA isn't working also.. I'm assuming cause it's an update and not the entire OS install..
I noticed when in TWRP recovery, if I reboot it asks if I'm sure cause there is no OS installed... The question is now, how the heck do I reinstall said os?
Thanks.
Yeah you can't fastboot it you have to flash it from within stock recovery.
Unlock.
Extract recovery.img (may also be called recovery_signed.img) from the ota zip
Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Relock.
Select recovery from bootloader.
When a picture comes on the screen, hold volume up and press power
Then select install from phone storage (not from sdcard)
Then select your ota.
It will flash successfully

When in Android System Recovery <3e>
Device_CW_Install: Can't mount /data
"install from phone storage" gives the following error
Invalid operation... rebooting
Did you factory reset within bootloader at any point? This would have corrupted your sd card.
It's also possible you got a bad ota download.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
It's very possible I did a factory reset within bootloader... As for the OTA, it took nearly an hour to download it..not sure if teh host was slow or if it was my end .. Perhaps it corrupted on transfer?
Do i need to mount ( in twrp recovery ) and copy the OTA file onto the sdcard in order to "select install from phone storage"??
That's right. But you'll need to copy the file to your phone first, then unmount, then flash it.
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda premium
Should I place it in a specific folder?
No you can put it anywhere
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
device_CM_Install: Can't mount /data
Invalid Operation
I don't even have an option to select the OTA file after selecting "install from phone storage"...straight to invalid Operation error.
ANy ideas how to fix the mount?
Attempted the Nocturnal guide for corrupted sd card.. same result.

It doesnt need to be on the internal memory to select install from phone storage. It does need to be on there to select the OTA though.
Mount the SD card in twrp and format it. then copy the ota over
Formatted and trying to scan / repair sdcard... hopefully able to repair..
formatted sdcard in windows ( after mounting in twrp ) .. Not sure if that helped any... I was able to wipe / clear in twrp also... which seems to have remounted the /data, /system /cache and /sdcard partitions..
Now, if I can only get the OTA to flash....

HOw does one get past the signature verify? ( phone is locked, and recovery.img was run prior to OTA rom )

You have to flash stock recovery before locking.
*edit* my bad, misread. do fastboot oem readcid
no wait.. Why are you fastboot flashing it? Flash it from within Stock recovery. "install from phone storage". Sorry -_- I am in an altered state of conciousness

2.14 Hboot Flash Error

I was attempting to update my phone to hboot 2.14 and I downloaded the third hboot file found here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2156686
However when flashing the file I get the error "Failed (remote: 32 header error)". I re-downloaded the file, and it still failed. I think the file maybe corrupt is that possible? If so does anyone have any hboot 2.14 file that I can download? I have an AT&T HTC One X.
For what reason are you trying to change the hboot?

1. You are s-off, right?
2. If you're trying to upgrade for the 3.4 kernel AOSP ROMs then you'd better think again.... You'll have to run the full RUU (BE SURE YOU'RE S-OFF).

I am s-off. I was accidentally flashing the .img file instead of the zip. However when I flashed the zip file the process was stuck on "(bootloader) zip info parsing..." and has been for 10 minutes. Is it ok to force stop the process? What should I do now?

After 10 minutes, I don't know what other option there is, but it seems pretty dangerous especially since you're dealing with hboots which, to put it simply, control whether or not your phone turns on (as well as other things).
Anyone have a better solution?

So I went ahead and pressed control-c. However now when I tell it to erase cache it fails, and trying to flash again makes fastboot crash. Any advice?

Reboot to recovery, and use the format cache option (not wipe dalvik) and try again.

Then the phone stays on the same screen as before. Hold power button?
