[Q] Questions for Razr HD user - RAZR HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Whats up guys I am about 2 weeks out from upgrading my phone, I am pretty much dead set on the Razr HD, but I can't decide if its worth the extra $100 for the maxx. So I'm trying to find an HD user to tell me what the battery life is like on their phone.
How much do you use your HD?
What do you use it for?
How often do you have to charge it?
Do you keep WiFi on?
I don't use my phone too much, but I do use it to listen to the radio while I am at work all day. I'm thinking it would be a safer bet to just get the maxx.
The guy at the Verizon store told me that he knew of many people who thought they would be ok without the maxx and they all ended up wishing they would have forked over the 100 bucks to get the extended battery.
Thanks for your help!
Edit: Lots of spelling errors

To begin, I want to state that I am using the GSM variant of the Razr HD (XT925).
I purchased my Razr HD LTE last Thursday and wasn't until today that I was able to finally use my SIM (as it was carried locked).
The responsiveness is very nice; slick even. In speaking with the Motorola Rep. @ Rogers, he stated that they wanted to keep the UI as close to stock Android.
As for the primary use, mine will be for business; specifically emails, attachments, office documents and phone usage. That starts tomorrow.
As it was not unlocked prior to this afternoon, I used it exclusively with WiFi for NetFlix, Hulu Plus, YouTube and at the gym using my 32GB MicroSD card (using the Stock Music & Power Amp Apps. to play tunes). It passed all these tests with flying colors.
I can't provide real world usage yet (as I had no SIM) but on WiFi alone, I haven't needed to charge until today. This is without utilizing any of the battery saving technology.
I'm coming back to Android from an iPhone 4S and all in all, I am very happy with my purchase. So far, it has exceeded my expectations and its build quality has drawn many a look.
Hope this helps.
All the best with your decision!

If you buy it from Amazon the Maxx HD is $199 and the regular HD is $149. Why pay the extra hundred to buy it from Verizon? Also, this way it is only $50 different so I feel like it is definitely worth that for the bigger battery and more storage.

I don't think the extra $100 is worth it, for $25 I can go to the store and get a 32GB SD card so I would be pushing 48GB of memory. Im also about to push 24 hours of battery life with 28% battery remaining.

I'm not due for my upgrade till Nov. 18th (so long TBolt). I'm hoping by then Amazon still has the Maxx HD for $199 and it's no longer backordered. The extra 16GB of space would be nice but it's the extra battery I really want. After dealing with the crappy battery on the Thunderbolt for 20 months I want as much juice as I can get, but I really don't wanna pay $300 for a smartphone.

Even if you can't get the MAXX my non MAXX gets over 20 hours of battery life easily

Any review showing the performance difference in battery between HD and Hd maxx?THanks!

I got best buy to price match Amazon for the maxx at 199. Price it should be. Remember there are no contract and phone stipulations for best buy unlike Amazon phone purchases.

Free upgrade. What phone stay or swich?

I got a free upgrade because of my trwckball issues with the eris, i went through 3 exchanges and now i can get a free upgrade. What new android phone should i get or should i stay eris, the droid looks cool and so does the devour
-------------------------------------
Sent via the XDA Tapatalk App
i'd go with the incredible, its like the eris and droid on steroids
+1

Vote for the Incredible here as well

Sent via the XDA Tapatalk App
Do they still actually do this? I was under the impression that VZW changed their policy on that, and dropped the three strike rule?
You should ask them if you can get another Eris and save your upgrade for later.
Incredible looks awsome but so do
All the other android based phones. Help me xda
-------------------------------------
Sent via the XDA Tapatalk App
i would second the vote on incredible. the droid is old, the incredible is newer and would be an actual upgrade worth getting.
The question you have to ask yourself is do you want to root. You can root the Eris now, but you might not ever be able to root the Incredible.

Sent via the XDA Tapatalk App
Thats a good question. I think it will be rootable just like all the other android based phones

The Devour sucks in my opinion. Unless you're into that whole social networking thing A LOT. My vote goes to the incredible. Or you could get another Eris and wait until the next best Android phone comes out (which probably won't be long) with Froyo and maybe a better processor or something. That's what I'm doing. But if you must, then the Incredible.
The Incredible. No Doubt. The Speed of it is Insane. It has the 1 Ghz Snapdragon Processor. DO a search on reviews of it. You will find nothing but great things. I am so Disappointed I didn't wait 3 Mos and get the Incredible instead of the Eris. I do like the Eris. But the Incredible, I Love. It is like choosing between a Porsche and a Ferrari. Sure a Porsche is great but a Ferrari is a FERRARI.
Haha yeah idk if i should wait 1ghz is pretty sweet

I would rather have a locked down incredible then a rooted eris.
besides it only took what, 3-4 months before the eris was rooted? cant be that long for the incredible.
i gotta say my vote goes to the incredible as well.. dont get me wrong i still love my eris and root on it is awesome..i have had all 3 of them incredible(current) droid(sold lol) and eris (current backup phone, testing device) u wont be dissappointed.. try one out for 30 days..u can always return it..vzw store hates me when i go in hahaha good luck with ur decision!______________________

I might save that upgrade...
which reminds me, why does xda not have any boards for ANY motorola phones?
What is that phone? It looks amazing and looks like hd2

The rumored Motorola Shadow. Has a better gpu than the Incredible(so I read), which means better video support, and I think even better flash 10.1 support, on a 4.1in screen. The cpu is the like a faster/newer version of what you see on the current Droid, and GPU is suppose to be now 80% or so faster than the Droid from video I saw of the processors running on Android 2.1 on a reference device. The screen is suppose to be LCD so its not as vibrant as the Incredible, but it is better to use in direct sunlight.

That's what I'm getting for my NE2, provided it is superior to the Incredible. If it's not, I'll be switching to Sprint for the EVO and the better reception where I live.
I'll still be trying to squeeze a free replacement out of Verizon, which reminds me I better call them before they close

wellllllll... maybe.
Motorola also owns the trademark for "Droid Ultra" (along other things) and moto has 2 model numbers in verizon's systems. one just letters/numbers and another for "DRU-###" ( where "#" means numbers, I didnt get a chance to write them down when I saw it).
I belive this manual is for the droid ultra, or droid 2 or whatever you want to call it, but not the shadow.
all concept images of the shadow so far have been white, with a loop on the bottom (presumably for a wrist strap, most likely an external antennae), where as concepts for the ultra have looked like the phone in this manual.
granted, I'd take even my own words with a grain of salt. even reliable tipsters have been wrong before, but to me, this isnt a shadow, it's the ultra. unless, as rumors have it, the shadow is the new "nexus 2" where the ultra will take on the N2's old moniker.

Leaving the Thunderbolt? Chime in and say bye.....

Looks like with Razr, Nexus, and Rezound coming out its bound to cut down traffic in the Thunderbolt forum. I will be on here till April when HTC hopfully releases the Edge or similar phone on Verizon which is phone I am waiting for. Feel free to chime in if you will be leaving and state forum you are leaving for.

well, verizon did grant me an early upgrade....
i already decided 'hell no' on the RAZR....
going back & forth with the nexus/rezound.. spec-wise i like the rezound more, but i like the screen size of the nexus....
basically though, i am going to wait until both phones are here & see how things go with them first. so i might end up staying with the ol' TB a bit longer.
I'm stuck between the razr and nexus. I gotta sell my tbolt first otherwise I'm sticking with it

I wont leave until my one year upgrade is up. And I may wait further if something really good is coming out soon.
gonna wait for quad-core phones, they are round the corner anyways
Hopefully they start to show up sometime in Q1 2012.
until then I keep my TB
Agreed. Dual core is only an incremental upgrade. I've compared my TBolt to an S2 and its not too different. I'm not even overclocked.
As long as CM9 is supported here, I'm not jumping anytime soon.

I'm with you man, very solid device and with MIUI available now I see no need to upgrade. A lot of developers are creating some amazing work for the bolt! New nexus is cool and I had the first one and loved it but I'm waiting too.
My wife is upgrading this month either the Razr or the Rezound. I am due for an upgrade in January. I am definately waiting to see the Nexus first. If it is $500, definately selling TB to buy Nexus off contract, just to save upgrade to quad core, which I think won't happen until the summer of 2012.

whenever quad-core is released, I have a feeling its going to be one of those last minute "surprise!.. we're releasing it next week!" sort of deal.
as for the TB, I've got someone offering me $300 for it(although with 9 cases & 5 batteries)... that's why I'm considering an upgrade(+ I have an upgrade available right now).
well I got my thunderbolt end of march so I got awhile. still very satisfied with my thunderbolt.
There's really no need to. I just got my TB in June and I'm very happy with it. Plus as other people have said I also won't be thinking of an upgrade until the quadcores come out. Hopefully a new quadcore HTC device will release soon because honestly I'm not feeling the Rezound at all. I think its rather ugly

its funny that you mrntion that... when I was looking at the Thunderbolt originally I remember the salesman saying "how can you go wrong with this kickstand" and demonstrating it for me. I raised my eyebrow and said "sold!"
Yeah, I will have to try to locate a non crappy "kickstand case" for any future phones....I use that thing constantly. Funny that it's about the one unique feature the tbolt has left in the verizon lineup, heh.
Ordered the Rezound today. Won't be home tomorrow so it will be here Wed.

Yeah I dont understand how a kickstand isnt already standard on every phone now developed. At least every new HTC phone. I use it every single day watching netflix vids on my lunch break.
I really want a nexus just for the increased screen space and AMOLED screen. I'm growing tired of the poor battery life with the TB and the thickness of it. But unless I can find a convenient way to prop up the nexus, or to get a reasonable sale on my TB, looks like she'll be with me for quite some time.

I am with you! If this phone is going to be unlocked and i can mess around with it and it works on AT&T, i have been waiting a long time for its release. $1170 for the 64gb one, which seems a bit much, but i will sping for it. It was this or the LG Nexus G, but i am not so sure about it.
So the 13 megpix sensor is from Sony, is that good? IDK but i was hoping it was better than the Samsung G3 and maybe even dare to dream equal to the 920 Nokia.
So pumped for this one.
So i just googled straight talk, how good is the data? and are they LTE ready? How does that work? There service area seems thin, and i am a rep for 7 southeastern states, this does not seem like a good option for me, am i missing something? I would love to dump at&t and do that $45 a month plan, no contract.

Sony made the camera for the iphone 4S, they are very very good at that. The data depends on if you get it through AT&T or T-Mobile. I'm planning on getting the T-mobile version for the HSPA+ speeds. In your case, you could have the same coverage by using an AT&T MNVO at a fraction of the price. The upside is there's no prepaid 4G. If you want that, you might consider T-mobile's new unlimited data plan, but then you'd be under contract again :?
MNVO thru straight talk will give me AT&t's coverage and speeds? I would be so happy if that were true. Why wouldnt more people be doing this?
Being an Infinity owner, I couldn't help but think of what the Padfone 2 should have had:
- Keyboard dock
- Full HD display
Also, can the tablet be used without the phone? I would assume not since the tablet is supposed to use the phone's data/apps.

I'm pretty sure the phone's processor and memory also power the tab, the tab is just a screen and battery for the most part.
I'm more interested in getting just the phone than the full kit. I already have an Infinity so I don't need the full Padfone bundle, but the phone itself has some nice specs.
My mother has padfone 1 it's excellent, can't fathom why they left out a keyboard dock from this one. That's the whole reason she got one to replace an old iPhone and iPad and not need a laptop

I've seen the coverage from a bunch of website.
I'm pretty sure that they also presented the stylus for this one. I don't know about compatibility for the previous stylus though.

lol I don't think they can do that. First, I can't find official information regarding the keyboard (I have watched the live event and there is no mention of the keyboard), are you guys sure that there is a keyboard dock? Second, the Padfone 2 has a new connector at the bottom (around the same size and fully compatible with micro-USB), so there is no way we can fit the Padfone 2 with any Transformer keyboard docks.

The spec list is pretty sweet - hopefully there's one with 32gb or expandable storage.
I'd like to see one as when I've seen the Galaxy Note out in public it just looks absolutely ridiculous in size... lol
according to HTC it has microsim card slot. I was thinking about getting the LG Optimus G but idk now, i may have to wait lol
That looks pretty good as well... lol
I want to wait and see what Google do with their Nexus range, I've heard that there are going to be a few different models to cater for the different type of users and they might be released by different manufacturers even.
I want my next phone to have the s4 pro.. LG or HTC who shall it be

I don't know which color I like better. The red w/black accents and the black w/red accents both look sick! I hope it's not just a Verizon exclusive when it comes to the states. How much you wanna bet the carriers will be charging $399 WITH a two year contract. "Oh it's 1080p so that's gonna cost an extra $100." Or they'll price it at $900 for off contract. That's one reason why I didn't want a 1080p phone to come out now. Carriers are gonna think it justifies a HUGE price increase.
You guys are all thinking about going to the Optimus G? Seems a lot of people are into the Optimus G. But LG? I don't know if I could buy an LG phone. The S4 Pro should be coming to other manufacturers phones also.
Another phone I have to work hard on getting. Each time I get a new phone there's a newer and better one coming out. I get the HTC inspire 4g and I see the one x. I get the one x and I see this x.x. oh well, happens everytime. The phone looks really nice and specs are great. Also jellybean!

I'll stay away from HTC as long as they are locking down phones for ATT.
Does look sweet though.
I will wait for a few hours, for admins to open HTC J Butterfly own subforum and post my opinion there! (sarcastic)

Anyone got that nice looking wallpaper?
Started loving HTC phones
Hopefully will manage to save enough for Butterfly till end of this year
As ridiculously sexy as this phone looks, I just don't upgrade my phone that often - I got the One X because I trusted it to last me through at least the 2 years of my AT&T contract.
Still, this gets me excited to see the phones of 2014

This is what the one x+ should have been based on! I like but there are some things that won't convince me, 2020 mah battery for a 5 inch screen and 1080p ? battery is gonna last 2 hours of on screen time :/ HTC seems to never learn about how important batteries are, 5" is too big for me, also no onscreen buttons? and that glossy finish? no thanks

An HTC executive responded a while back how "customers would prefer thinness to more battery life"...
It's really showing in their products.

Could this be the next HD2 we're all waiting for?
What widget is that on the screen shot? I remember having it on my phone but it's nowhere to be found.

[Q] Is your Nexus 5 still fresh?

By fresh, I mean would you still buy it today or would you look for something more current?
My Verizon contract is up in about a month and I'm hankering to replace my Droid RAZR MAXX ASP. It no longer feels fresh. It's running an older Jelly Bean (4.1.2) and is quite the dog. Web pages load so slowly that the screen frequently turns off before the page displays. Moto/Verizon have decided not to upgrade it further though I suspect it might benefit from performance improvements in more recent versions. :-/
My usage is low, consisting of a less than 200MB data, about 100 minutes of voice and a handful of texts typical per month. (Data will go up the month we're on vacation when I'm away from normal WiFi hot spots.) Verizon has nothing for me (New contract would involve more money for less service. However the service levels are moot if I'm not even coming close to my limits.)
For reasons of performance and availability of upgrades I want to go with a Google Experience phone. Because of my usage patterns, I'm leaning toward a month by month provider such as Ting. (They resell Sprint voice/data and voice roams to Verizon at no additional charge.) The choice today is the Nexus 5. It' been out since November of last year and the next (and perhaps last) Nexus seems likely to be released November of this year. The Nexus 5 seems like it has decent specs with 2GB RAM and a quad core processor. (But I thought the same of the Droid RAZR with 1GB RAM and dual core processor.) I'm curious what folks who own and use the Nexus 5 think about its future longevity.
Another option I have is to buy a used phone to bridge the time between Verizon cutoff and availability of the Nexus 6. I could also sell the Nexus 5 when the Nexus 6 becomes available, I suppose.
The Nexus 5 is still a perfect good phone. The GPE Galaxy S5 might arguably be "fresher," but for the money, the Nexus 5 is hard to beat.
Of course, you could stick with Verizon on month-to-month until the Nexus 6 (or whatever they call it) comes out, but if you're looking to jump today, the Nexus 5 is still a great device.

Thanks for the tip on the GPe S5. It seems to be rumored but not yet announced. The GPe S4 is $650 =8-O I'm not convinced it is that much better than the Nexus 5. Ting does list the regular S5 for $597 but that includes Samsung's bloatware (some of which I'm sure I'd find useful) and updates at their discretion.
I might ask Verizon one more time about month by month options at contract expiration. I could also use my Droid X on BYO for the time being. Maybe I could find a Verizon MVNO who could use my RAZR MAXX.
For the price, nothing beats the nexus 5.
Unless you just run stock and gravity box say....then maybe the Moto x. Tho, you need one that the boot loader can be unlocked. On Verizon, that's the Dev edition.
Comparing to phones twice the price is apples to oranges. Tho the N5 does still stand up to those phones too.
Nexus5 is worth every flash and more...
Nexus ftw!!!

That looks like a great phone, but it's not available to me. Sprint does not allow Ting to use new phones so it might be available about a year following release. Second, I really wanted to try a Google Experience phone this time (vs. one with carrier additions and lock in.) There is the possibility that this will be the basis for the next Nexus and if so, I might regret not having waited.
I've had my Nexus 5 for about a week now, so the question is moot. I suppose I could sell it and get the next Nexus when it comes out but I'm sure the N5 will drop in value at that point.
At the moment I'm half way between phones. My Droid RAZR MAXX is days away from being off contract. Battery life is still good but it is still dog slow. The N5 is amazingly fast, highlighting the difference. And I should get the next version of Kit Kat any minute now.
