Hi Everyone
One of the great (IMO) features of the transformer is that when docked you can just bash away at the keyboard in the springboard to reveal results.
For example if I type "Jones" it would bring up contacts on the right with the name Jones
If I typed Engadget it would search google for that, all of this without me pressing a key
I loved it.
I took the plunge with CM10 and now if I choose to do this it chucks me straight into google now, which I don't mind except for this one problem...
I'm quite a quick typist so when, for example, I type "Engadget" what happens is that the first "E" gets inputted but then the cursor somehow goes to the left of it so I end up with this "ngadgetE"
If i do it slow i get way with it, but im so used to doing it quickly that it's doing my head in the search with the keyboard was one of the things of beauty with this system and or some reason it's just kicking me out each time.
If i've not explained this well enough I apologise, I'm just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem and if they managed to fix it ?
Thanks guys and girls.

I have this same problem... I feel like most people don't use the keyboard because it is so expensive. This is a major cripple of the device, if you ask me. I have been dealing with this for what feels like months, and just started looking for a solution. I am running stock firmware, and I assumed it was because I needed to perform a factory reset. Unfortunately, that had no effect whatsoever. Just caused a lot of wasted time on my part. I am considering CM10, but now I am weary. I also wonder if I would lose out on a bunch of hardware-specific drivers and whatnot. That tends to happen on the custom Android builds off of AOSP.

Your mind can think faster then your fingers can keep up with. At least on the smaller sized keyboard of the Transformer. It's a symptom of ADHD, One that in fact I enjoy, as it lets me type faster then my coworkers, and I have busted tendons in my left hand.
Actually a lot of what is happening to you is that when you are typing, your fingers "glide" across the keys, and in that you inadvertently perform a differing function causing the curser to return to home. Remember you have 3 things going at once. Your brain typing, your fingers typing, and the keyboard trying to get it all to show up on the screen.
And yes life is REALLY bad when you have a studder. While I can say that 99% of us that have a verbal studder also have a dexterity studder to go along with it. Thank God for backspace.

FYI, this is simply a bug with Google Now on the Transformer series... It might be that Google wasn't expecting so much lag to exist on a device when they coded it... The system definitely caches/buffers the keyboard input, because every letter pops up on the search--just the first one doesn't get inserted until the system catches up, (the cards load in Google Now.) The first letter isn't ALWAYS at the end--it just depends how long*you type.

Hey, this is only my second post here. I kinda feel like a leech since all I ever do is look around and try to gain some knowledge for myself.
But I was hoping nobody would mind and maybe try for some help.
Anyways, I tried doing some searching through the forums but couldn't find anything on this.
About a week or two ago I just updated my fuze to the htc 5.11.502.2 rom.
Besides the stupid problem of texts not getting marked read I have found another weird little problem.
My on screen keyboards are a little messed up.
When I goto "Phone Keypad" (whether it be for SMS or anything else) it brings up the keypad and looks how it is supposed to. Although whenever I click a button to try and spell something out... well it does not give me a letter at all, just the number associated with that button.
Then if I goto select my "compact qwerty" keyboard it does the same thing. brings up the keyboard and i see the letters, but whenever I hit a letter it types a number instead.
then sometimes it will actually show the numbers... but the "ABC" box will be greyed out and i wont be able to select it.
yeah i know i suck for using the htc roms, but i never really wanted to put the effort into looking for a custom rom, there are so many choices i didn't even bother looking. i would have gone crazy because there are so many choices and i am a very indecisive person.
so anyways. do i have to hard reset? or is there some quick fix i can do?

Another KB with no voice icon.
Seems buggy on N1 , and IMO awful for fast typing... but like the potential
Very awful for fast typing. I rather type with swype or HTC IME
Yeah i gave this a try for about 2 seconds.
In THEORY it sounded like a good idea.
In practice tho, horrible.
The layout shifts as you are typing (which i thought would have been cool), causing keys to move around on you as you type.
If you type fast (like i assume many of us do) you will type faster then then layout shift can keep up, and when you go to hit the "E" key (or whatever), you've seen where the "E" key is, your mind has registered it, and your finger is already moving for that spot... THEN IT MOVES as your finger is in mid-air, heading for that spot you already registered in your head.
Like i said, in theory, a grand idea.... in practice tho, terrible.

Yeah, thats the part that really made it unusable for me. I kept trying to type "night" and it kept coming out "noghe" or something like that.
I like swype's abilities, but i wish it handled regular typing a bit better than it does now, cause i dont always feel like swyping everything. I mean it works pretty good as a regular keyboard too, but its not completely spot on all the time.
The font size in my text message screen has grown out of control in the last week. I was typing a message about 4 days ago and the font in the thread started increasing as I tried to type.
This led me to believe it was some combo of keys I pressed that made it happen.
However I swear today it is even bigger. Easily a 14 and that is huge on this little screen.
I have the 08.14.09 Bloat Free Official HTC Fuze ROM Update and it has been fine since Nov. This only just happened recently and it happened while I was watching. No other changes have been made.
My searches keep pointing to utilities/downloads that let you control it, but I just want it back to normal. Do not want to add more software. This just happened...so there has to be a way to undo it.
Anyone know where the text font settings are controlled. (I also have registry editor and advanced donfig installed if those might have settings in em...have to go look.)
Oh damn, talk about breaking the rules. I guess I need to search ON this forum and not assume that Google knows all.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=536578&highlight=sms+text+size
Ok, text issues are controlled by the zoom feature same as images are. DOH!
(Flaming can now begin, I deserve it.)
Side note, I have been having issues with buttons sticking or not working on first press. Phone just about 1.5yr old. So not surprised that the main pad on front may have done stuff without me touching it. (Del button not work all time, space bar now up to 3 spaces occasionally, etc.)

I agree with you that he should use the search, but what would you search for if you didn't know the problem?
Anyway, when your typing a message, try moving your finger around the center of your device, You will see then how it works.
Typing this on my keyboard dock, with mousepad disabled.
They keys work very well and I have no complaints about it o far.
But the mousepad - oh my.
At first it was too fast, managed to sort that out in settings. All well.
I don't completely understand difference between mouse pointer and gesture thing. Is it only a graphical representation that is different, or should it behave differently? Also, the navigation is very cumbersome. For example, I don't get how exactly am i supposed to flick through my launcher screens....
But the most annoying thing, and that is why i turned it off - it keeps pressing left button when i use mousepad. I am not even touching the part where the left/right mouse buttons are. Also, in settings, it says right an middle button. What's with that.
Yup, new to tablets, new to peripherals for Android.
Does anyone else have problems with the keyboard, musepad... Please share and please help me understand keyboard/mousepad so I could use it in full potential. Cause right now, only typing is a dealio for me - and charging of course, which is working fine.
Thanks
I have never even heard of a TF user actually using that touchpad thingy. I have it disabled as well, as it constantly places my cursor mid-text, and therefore causes me to add the new and most recent part of my last sentence mid-sentence somewhere higher up in the text. Really frustrating.
So, in short: no, you're not alone, and I don't think *anyone* has found a wy to get it to work like it should, except for those that can bear keeping their fingers in quite an unnatural position hovering somewhere above the keys waiting to be used. Bah. With the touchpad disabled, hwever, I feel it's OK, save for too much typos to my liking causing me to drop typing speed (either preventatively or by necessitating correction). I'm really looking forward to SwiftKey support for this keyboard!
Have you noticed more lags in UI while using touchpad? I've described it in another thread (same with USB mouse)
question about the track pad, the only reason i was going to buy it was because it was said it fixes touch issues. are ur touhces accurate and swift ? also how fast can you type, do word documents keep up with you

Keyboard (keys) are not problematic at all. Tried with KingsOffice, Google Docs...All well there.
Only mousepad/touchpad is the one that makes me wanna cry. I do have USB mouse, so i'll try it.
Regarding the lags ... with dock connected, no, i don't think there is any lag. I will test it with mouse, too, and let you know how that goes.
Hey,
so, I have tried USB mouse and it works fine.
Furthermore, mosuepad works perfectly well, too.
It is Google Drive apps that are not compatible or something.
Whenever I write a document in gdrive, I get this weird things with mouse clicking all around...also the USB mouse.
If I than switch to KingSoft Office or Polaris, the weirdness continues there, too.
But, If I don't open or work in gdrive, everything works just fine!
On the matter of lag: no lag here.

and didn't you notice more lags while scrolling through apps and widgets or moving apps? try holding an icon on your homescreen and move it fast around the screen, see what happens.
Nope, seems same.
Maybe launcher thing...i'm on apex...
I don't see any performance degradation because of the dock.
I do have other problems sometimes. Like, can't enter a pin number on lockscreen.
Also, that was kind of a funny thing, when i first showed pad and dock to some friends i brought it turned off.
Pulled it out of and said "I have a new notebook. But it is not notebook, suckas..." and detached pad.
Then i turned it on. It's just...that it didn't want to turn on...sucka
Had to plug in the teh dock again, turn it on and than it was fine.
Strange...happened only once though.
BR
Oh OK, I see. That's most likely a launcher thing. I think I'll wait for JB for a little while and if it doesn't solve this, I'll probably try Apex or Nova.
That's a bummer with showing it to your friends ;-) kind of like Microsoft showing their new products and getting some kind of BSoD or similar thing almost every time they introduce their new OS ;>
As to the lockscreen - try changing WiFi sleep settings so it won't be turned off when screen is off. Might be bad for battery life, but just check if this is the problem, as it was for many people who had huge lags with waking their Primes up from sleep.
You might also try playing with dock's power-saving settings in ASUS settings.

I know what they mean, for sometimes swiping the homescreen is less fluid or snappy than at other times. Nothing drastic though.

I type slower than on a regular keyboard, but admittedly, my typing speed has fallen quite a bit since having laser eye surgery. I am currently doing pretty-much-blind-typing, LOL.

Apex has been the best so far, although for heer speed, you could take a look at FTL Launcher as well. Not quite as configurable, but its "instant" homescreen swiping is as fast as your system van do it.

As far as I know, having WiFi enabled doesn't consume a relevant amount of battery when it is not actively transferring data. Indeed, several Prime owners have benefited from having it always on (the way it is stock on the TF700, I believe, so unless you have tweaked this setting yourself, it probably already keeps WiFi enable dwhile sleeping). It never hurts to try, I guess.
OMFG. I am so stupid sometimes
I have a password on several sites that consists of characters and numbers.
Well, for the PIN on the pad i choose same numbers. And of course I wanted to type in my password, with characters, too.
And it didn't work  - how strange
There actually is a little lag, but that's nothing to what I was thinking is going on
Thanks anyway! (I usually have wifi always on, also on phone....and it doesn't drain much battery if not transferring....)
That's good to hear ;-)
I've actually discovered that it may be 3-5% battery/hour less drain with WiFi completely off and screen on (apart from the obvious advantage of turning off Internet while reading pdfs, so I won't get distracted easily...).
I really hate what Google have done to the keyboard in Lollipop. The predictions have been changed for the current word to show suggestions that aren't what you are trying to type, (if you are typing accurately.)
On the face of it, this seems to be a logical decision. In practice though, your eyes have to keep going upto your message to check what you have just typed is correct. You then have to go all the way down to the space bar to get the next word prediction. :silly:
Under the old system, if you were typing accurately, you would just press the middle button without your eyes ever having to go up and find where you are typing. This would then prompt the next word prediction without ever having to look upto the message or down to press the spacebar.
Is there any way to get the Kit Kat keyboard into Lollipop. (Its a deal breaker for me and could influence the Moto X 2014 vs Nexus 6 decision!)
See attached Kit Kat and Lollipop. In the example, I'm trying to type, "The."
I just tried your scenario and it seems to be working fine on Lollipop.
As soon as I type 'T', the Google keyboard suggests the word 'The'. If I tap on that suggestion it then suggests the next predicted word.
If I type 'Th', it still suggests 'The' as the predicted word, but it also highlights or bolds the suggested word, indicating that I can hit the space bar to accept the suggested word 'The'.
If I go ahead and type the whole word 'The' without selecting the suggested word after either of the first two times it suggested it, it assumes I didn't want the word 'The' after all and suggests a different word.
Is that not the behavior you're seeing?

It is also what I see in Lollipop. Whilst it seems logical, when you are swiping, you only tend to check the word when you have finished a swipe. In KK, this mean't always going to the suggestion bar and confirming which also mean't insert space and then mean't next word please. Your eyes need almost no movement.
In lollipop however, when you have finished the swipe, your eyes have to go all the way upto the text, find where you typed and check it is what you wanted, then go all the way down to the spacebar and press it to ask for the next word suggestion.
It just means you can swipe so much faster on KK than you can on LP as your eyes are having to work alot less. :crying:
For me, the L version seems to be better at determining what I'm trying to swipe without me having to check it. I usually go ahead and swipe out the 2-3 sentences I want in my text/reply/post/whatever and then go back and verify it says what I wanted to say. And I've found it has been more accurate on L than it was on KK. Any incorrect words I see at that point I click on and the suggested replacement is usually what I wanted. If I verified each word as I swiped it would definitely be slower.
In other words, I rarely select the suggested words. I just swipe out what I want to say without looking up and then go back and verify before sending. And it's typically pretty accurate.
Is anyone seeing really bad lag while typing? Maybe I just type too fast but after I think I'm done with a word I look at the screen and it's still spelling it. I have vibrate on key press on, popup on keypress on and the text correction on.

I've had no problems with keyboard lag and I'm using 5 on the Nexus 7 2013, (Which is a much slower device.)
IDK about Swype type input but tapping is worse with white on white keys. I fixed it by switching to the older theme. I realized my eyes play a part in my accuracy apparently because muscle memory isn't enough. It's weird.

It's good that Google gave you the choice to switch back to the old keyboard look. I just wish Google would give me the option to switch back to the kit kat swipe functionality. I can't buy a nexus 6 until they fix this!

I don't think 5.1 is out yet?
It's out but not for my note3... Only the LG keyboard is as fast and comfortable as this for me. A part the autocorrection problem, they also removed the option to remove the "change language button" it wastes space for nothing... Bah..
For example now I'm typing on the forum and I have to watch the super small text in the forum box ... I'm a lot slower than before that was in the center of the keyboard, and ofc I make more mistakes... Silly choice by google's engineers

Exactly the problem I have. If Google don't sort it out in 5.1 I'm staying on kit kat for sure. I get what Google were trying to achieve but they need the option to do both kk and lollipop prediction methods.
Personally I hate it. I have had to type words like "complaint" dozens of times over even though my swiping technique hasn't changed because the software thinks I'm trying to type "composition". Now, mind you, I swipe over to the A and there is no A in "composition".

Would be nice if someone could hack the Google keyboard
Just an update for people having the same issue as me in Lollipop.
On the Play store, there is an app called Jellybean Keyboard 4.3. :highfive:
This app pretty much gets around my issue with the Google Keyboard and has worked fine for the last week I've been testing it with only a few niggles:-
- Emotions requires a separate download.
- When the app updated a few days ago, it forgot what it had previously learned.
I still dont understand why Google Keyboard cant contain a tick box in the settings entitled, "Include typed word in suggestion box in Lollipop." :crying:
Oh dear god. I tried Lollipop once on my N4 - it was awful. Now I plan to switch to 5.1 and see how it is one more time (and check if there is better battery life) but that keyboard abomination still scares me and its sad to know that it still persists...
However I'll try to live with that - at least for one day - cuz I wanna try EuphoriaOS tommorow Maybe I'll try to install Google Keyboard from 4.4.4... Somehow.
Just go for the jellybean keyboard as above.
