Trouble sending/receiving MMS - Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE

Has anyone else had trouble sending or receiving pic messages or anything else attachable to texts. When I get a message it'll have a download button but will never download. Regular texts work fine though. Solutions?

Also I have noticed that if I am on wifi, it's not an issue. But if I am on 3g (no lte here yet) the mms will not download at all.

That's because of the nature of the issue, i.e. the settings in the phone are borked when trying to route through Sprint's network. Read the thread linked above and the reason should evident for you

I did do that method, fixed the domain name, and still have the issue if I am not on wifi.

Same for me, I called Sprint and got my code, changed the profile name and had the guy refresh the profile. I started my phone up again and it still doesnt work over the 3G. Im going to try one of the other SMS apps and see if it works then. Ill let you know how it goes.

I got the Handcent sms app from the app store and I can now receive picture messages. It does work, its a nice way to work around the Photon Q's problem.

[Q] mms issue. People can't receive my pics

I am running the infused 1.5.3 rom and go sms. When I try to send a picture to my friend who has the exact phone I do and also my wife who has the iphone 4. They are both receiving this message
"Your phone is not compatible with this message type or size. Portions of this message will not be displayed."
Yet pics I send to my friend who has verizon go just fine. Is there some setting I'm missing? Thanks in advance.

does your phone ask you if you would like to resize them when you try and send...if so are you selecting yes
are there any other changes that you have made like:
freezing thesms/mms app
using a different sms app
etc etc
and then the same goes for their end...
have they made any changes, do they receive pics from others and only not yours

I am using go sms and I've tried stock sms. I haven't froze any sms apps. It doesn't ask me to resize, just the usual compressing or resizing message it normally gives without prompting for a user response. My friends infuse is stock and not rooted and my wifes iphone 4 is jailbroken but nothing has changed anytime recently with it. The apps I have frozen is just media hub. Yes they can receive pics from others and send them as well.
Edit: I have media hub, maps, and news & weather frozen.
Actually it just reads "converting to multimedia message" no prompt for anything. Very frustrating as to why mainly verizon people are getting my pics and not others. Thats how it seems anyway.
As far as trying to send pics that I actually took with my phone then forget about it. Longest I've had it sit is about 15 minutes before I get pissed and just delete the send. Those stay stuck on "sending" and never go anywhere.

I use handcent...in the settings there is an option of "max mms message size limit"
I believe you want that to be 2mb...anything over that will not send to some phones.
that has been the only instance where some people did not receive my msgs.
Have you tried on wifi and network? I have not noticed the issue on att, but on sprint you could not send or receive mms while on wifi
those are the only things I can think of

I do currently have it set to 4g 5M for the photo size. I could give that a shot. Still odd that it would not send to my friends infuse I have tried wifi and att network and home I have the 3g microcell which is NOT worth the $200. I'm kinda pissed I bought it.
If you want full bars yet calls cut in and out and you want to resend each text about 4 times cause they will instantly fail (happens no where but when I'm connected to microcell) then pick one up lol
But yea the mms issue happens elsewhere as well.

Did anyone found a fix yet for the problem that can't send messeges when coneccted t

Sure haven't. I just use CM7 now since it has the 2/4g toggle in notification... I just deal with it now, until a new baseband is out for us, I don't think it will be fixed.

It used to work well but because of some incident, though not confirmed yet, there is us in that group that can't send mms when 4g in on. As if sms wont trigger the 2g/gsm switch for it to be able the sms to be send.

There is a setting in the LG hidden menu that could fix it, but LG has not implemented it. Under modem settings there is a CS/PS preference (Carrier Signal/Packet Switched). You want that set to CS. Almost no carrier in the world has implemented PS sending for sms. When you select CS you get a toast message that says not implemented yet. If LG had implemented that setting to the baseband it would fix this problem. It appears the issue is that automatic CS fallback has been turned off. When on on 2G or wifi, sms message are sent by CS by default. On 3G and 4G, for some stupid reason, Android tries to send them first on PS, then when it cannot be sent that way, the modem is supposed to auto-fallback to CS and send the sms. For some reason instead of performing the fallback the modem is just throwing up a general error and giving up. If anyone can figure out how to issue a command to the modem and turn auto-fallback back on I think it would fix this issue.
I don't have such problem (sending text) when the phone displays "H" (I use Eagleblood AOSP ROM because I don't like 2G/4G).

Is not mms is sms only, only it happends when is connected to 4g network, when i am in 2g netwkrk, uma wifi calling or data disable it works fine. Is like the phone forgot the command to switch to 2g network to send sms message and then switch back to 4g. One doesnt see this switch because it happends in seconds
Well I still have the problem. My carrier cannot help me they have tried everything at this point they are asking me to return the phone.

[Q] No MMS after rooting

Hi all -
I'm using the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727 and I have just rooted last night. This morning, I am unable to receive MMS picture as I usually can from my girlfriend, who is an iphone user. If I send an MMS pictures to myself, it works fine. I read somewhere you have to reset your APN settings, which I've done but it doesn't seem to have changed anything. I've also rebooted a few times. I should tell you that I have backed-up and uninstalled the stock messaging app, since I use Go SMS exclusively. I tried to restore it but was unable to. Could this be the problem or do I need to make more changes to my APN settings?
Thanks in advance
If you search for skyrocket APN's you should get an idea of the settings (PTA is the only one I use)
If you long press the message, does it let you see the attachment/recognize the message as a mms?

na
it just shows the text - no mms. I got one successfully from my brother (who's on an android), so i'm waiting to see if I can get one from the iphone
take a look at GO SMS in the market and what it supports; it may not support MMS. A lot of apps don't process MMS texts just fyi.
So message details only recognizes it as a SMS, but only when sent from an iPhone? Can you have them turn off imessage? I'm going to guess that's part of the issue
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using XDA
Just thought id mention this, my mom, dad and sister all have iphones and tried sending me MMSs yesterday, did not work just continuously say downloading.
however i called my mom and while on the phone she sent me the mms again, i checked it while on the phone and it successfully downloaded.
could it have been a fluke? or is there something that changed while i was on the phone?
I had constant moms problems with family/clients using iPhones with imessage enabled
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using XDA
If you turn off DATA or momentarily don't have data on; MMS will stick at "downloading...."
you have to disable "Auto Retrive" in Messaging settings then attempt to download the MMS again.
hm if android receives android, I bother it is the problem of your phone.
What you should do is a simple delete and install from the market, to start again.
If nothing changes, I should throw you girlfriends iPhone in a lake and take care she will get an SGS2
Any solution?
Hi all,
Has there been any sign of a solution for this issue yet? I just rooted my GS2 LTE and can not seem to send or receive MMS to anyone at all. I do not want to download any other aps to do it for me, I just want to figure this out. I've also read a lot about changing APNs, any ideas on that?
Thanks in advance.
Guys how can you expect any help if you don't include a carrier in your post?
I know that for rogers when I flash a new rom I have about 4-5 APNs in my list. I actually have to remove one labeled MMS from the bottom of the list and leave the one that is marked as LTE. Then after a reboot I can get MMS no problem. BTW GoSMS does do MMS, I used to use it but have since been using the stock SMS/MMS app.

Sorry, it was late at night/ early in the morning. Thought I included he fact that I was with Rogers. I also have a few APNs. I've played around with a few of them and now I seem to sometimes be sending pictures. It's entirely inconsistent and still takes over 5 minutes to send on the rare occasions it decides to.

I may have found the solution to my issue. I deleted all APNs and made one Rogers APN to act as all of them. I used the instructions I found on a website which I am apparently too new to link to. So far I have managed to send and receive picture texts to myself 100% of the time within a reasonable timeframe. I will be back if that changes when I message other people. Thank you all again for your help.

OK, there is an issue with select Motorola Photon Q's where the MMS function doesn't work on the stock messaging application. I actually had mine replaced over the issue, as I was unable to send or receive MMS. This should not be an issue with the network. From my understanding, Sprint is aware of the issue, as the store I bought my phone at called them to try to fix the issue. So, an OTA should come out with the fix.
Now, there is a workaround that has worked for me. Use another messaging app, such as Go SMS Pro, and MMS will work.

So glad I found this thread..On my third Photon Q in three days. First had a defective vibrate motor..the second would not send or receive MMS unless using WiFi so they replaced it. Third one is doing the same thing. Just installed Handcent SMS and its working perfect using the 3G. Maybe someone should forward this to Sprint? I after two hours wasted with tech support and several tickets created, I am thrilled with the phone now. I love everything about it except the MMS not working. Thanks guy!!
There has been a fix for this issue as per the Sprint discussion board. I have verified it has fixed my MMS problem. You will need your MSL to change a setting, if you dont have it you need to call sprint or use another method to obtain it. It appears some data profile usernames were borked during provisioning
Steps to follow:
1. Open your dial pad and dial ##3282#
2. Tap on Data Profile
3. Look at your username, mine ended in ".comom"
4. If yours is obviously wrong (like mine), fix it, save it and then reboot phone.
5. good to go.
Yepe... Mine says .compcs.com... Gonna have to call Sprint.
Thanks for this.

CM 10.1 Won't allow sending of MMS

I've rommed my phone finally to CM 10.1 the latest official version by _CZ for some reason it takes ages to send a picture message if any at all some times it doesn't even send . I can get them perfectly fine I just can't send them out in a timely manner..... I've been connected to wifi since the start of rom . I've used it in the past and tried using it off wifi and it sends just like alway it can take up to 30 minutes or more .... is there a solution to this help would be greatly appreciated.
I followed the proper steps of flashing down to a fine line of detail . I'm not exactly sure what else to do ... some people suggested checking my APN but I'm not savvy in such ways . Anywhom Help is apprecated.

You're using the XT897C version right? Not XT897? The CDMA version?
I sent some patches loooong ago back when CM10.1 first came out for the Q, which fixes MMS issues. Unless something changed/broke recently, this should still work.
I'm a little confused on what you've tried. So you send with wifi on, fails. You send with wifi off...? What happens?
You said it takes 30 minutes - does that mean it sends eventually?
Are you using any third party apps to send MMS, or just the built-in "Messaging" app?
Yes on Wifi it never sends at all it stays on the sending ....
On Regular Mobile Data It is a hit or miss and rarely sends .
And as far as I know I am on the XT897 I have a sprint cdma not a Gsm phone .
Edit- I'm using build in Messaging application .

Can you check the download that you flashed? It should still be on your SD card, or perhaps on your computer still? Make sure it's XT897C, not XT897.
I'm trying to think of how I tested it - I thought I tried with wifi enabled, and it was no issue. So you've gotten *some* messages to send, but very few? What happens, the app just says "Sending..." and they never send?
If you are running the wrong build, that would do it - Sprint's MMS is really finnicky and needs special settings for it to work properly.
Its the XT897C as far as I know I just flashed it today . In the past it sent but it took some time . Today I have not been able to send at all its been stuck on sending . I've tried sending messages to my wife. Picture messages. To test it out . And it has not sent one at all on wifi or on mobile data .
On the receiving end I've gotten mms . No problem so far my friend sends I get .

Hmmmm well that's unfortunate. Definitely looks like you have the right build downloaded.
Unless something broke recently, I'm not really sure. I know this used to work
Edit - I don't think you'll have an APN option to check, being CDMA - we don't use APN's (technically).
Perhaps try a third party piece of software like GoSMS.
I'll try thank you for trying to help I'll see if a third party application works I'll get back to you asap.
Edit- I did what you suggested it seems handcent works perfectly .I tried Go sms It did the same thing as stock loaded messaging application for cm.
On the upside you helped out a lot thanks .
