[Q] CWM installed but can't select the root zip file - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I used Odin to install CWM on my Galaxy Tab 2 10.1. When I boot into recovery and try to select the cwm-root-gtab2.zip file. Do I need to rename it to update.zip so it will take it? It is in the root of the sd.

No
You do not need to rename it just flash it

Ok, I redownloaded the file but it still won't load. Maybe its because I have 4.04 OS on mine?

Thanks, put a micrso sd card in it with the root zip file. Got it installed and now it says the tablet isn't rooted. Seemed like the install when fine with no errors mentioned.

After getting the root file installed I tried SuperUser and it wouldn't work, said it needed to be updated but then it couldn't update. Did some more reading and found I had to go to playstore and re download SU. Did that and now it is rooted and working right.

[Q] trying to install rom

Hello, I'm having a bit of trouble putting a custom rom on my Samsung Infuse 4G. I followed the insructions in gtg465x's latest rom post, but it doesn't work for me. I'm rooted and installed the 3e recovery that says it bypasses the signature verification mumbo, but upon reboot it says "E: failed to verify whole- file signature"
"E: signature verification failed". Should I set it back to factory specs and start over? Yes I'm a noob at this.
I don't think the proper recovery is installed. Maybe it didn't replace the original one like it was supposed to or something.
I would try reinstalling the proper recovery again and then installing CWM.
wrong folder maybe
ok, thanks, I may have put it the wrong folder. I unzipped in on my computer, then dragged the file to the "downloads" folder on the internal sd card. l' ll keep reading maybe ill figure it out.

Yes use Root Explorer and replace the stock recovery in system/bin folder.

It has to be placed in /system/bin with proper permissions (I forget what perms at the moment).
I believe at this point the easiest way to install Modded 3e Recovery and CWM is to flash the Community Voodoo kernel using Odin (Samsung's update/flash utility)
Unfortunately I can't help you with that, I did it the hard way (replace recovery with modded 3e using the shell and not Root Explorer, since I'm a Linux guy and very familiar with Linux/Unix shells.)

Files

I was wondering if there is a way to download a rom or kernel and save the zip to my SD card then go in recovery and basically install it, without having to use my computer. I can move the zip file to my SD card from my phone but it never appears on the list to install when I go into recovery.

Of course dude, very easy.
1) Make sure you have CWM 5.0.2.0 installed via NVflash. There's a very easy-to-follow post on this in the dev section called "one-click nvflash installer."
2) Download the rom to your phone. This usually works from whatever link you were going to use to download it on ur pc.
3) Turn off your phone.
4) Hold Volume down and power until you see the second LG logo (The prettier one).
5) In CWM, do whatever wipes you need to do. If you're updating, wipe cache and dalvik, if moving from LG-based to AOSP or vice versa do a full wipe.
6) Select 'Install zip from sd card' (or internal sd card depending on where you downloaded the zip file earlier).
7) If its an AOSP rom, also install gapps.
8) Reboot.
9) Done!
EDIT: Sorry I just read your post more carefully. I guess you don't have the latest version of CWM because you say you cant find the file to flash once in recovery, right? The latest version (5.0.2.0) allows you to flash a zip from both your external and internal sdcards so try updating to that.
ohhh, no no no, i think you may have misunderstood my question lol. im already rooted and flashed and everything im just wondering if there is a way to download a rom on my phones browser and have it go to my sd card and then i just go to recovery and install from zip. i tried but the zip file never appears.
When you download something it gets saved in a folder called "Download" in your SD card just go to that folder and it will be in there
Nope not there

It will be in the internal sd card download folder. Not the external sd card.

You either have an old version of CWM, which is showing you the wrong sd card, therefore causing you not to find the rom zip, or you have the latest version and didn't know that it offers both internal and external support.
If you don't have 5.0.2.0 - update.
If you do - check both internal and external sd cards.

Can't see .zip in CWM recovery

I looked for an answer before posting but couldn't find it and hoping someone can help out. I rooted my rogers skyrocket and installed ClockworkMod Recovery. I am trying to install a new ROM but when I boot in recovery I cannot see the .zip file on the SD Card but I can see it in file manager. Any ideas or solutions?
Is the zip on the external or internal SD?
rocketed to da sky using mah brain and mah thumbs...

Its on the external card.
Is it on the root of external sdcard? Excuse me for asking the obvious question but a lot of times its something silly that's been overlooked.

Yes, its on the root of the external SD card but I can only see the folders and no other files.
Look at the file format. Make sure its .zip and not .zip.zip. sometimes copying files from your computer to your phone will do this.

Its .zip and not .zip.zip but I am only seeing it in the file manager or on the computer when the phone is connected but in CWM all I see is the folders of the SD card and no other file.
This is really starting to piss me off, I downloaded about 5 different roms and none of them is showing on the SD card in CWM recovery in order to install. Is there any other way to install the ROM or anything I could do to see the files in CWM? I am sure the .zip file is on the SD card and I can see it when i file manager but once I go into CWM to install I cant see it. If anyone had this problem and has a way to fix it please let me know. Thank you.
I think I found a way to do it and its through Rom manager, there is an option to install ROM from SD card I clicked it and now i think its installing. Hope it works. I'll post my results in case someone has the same problem.
Solved the problem. I can only flash new ROM from ROM manager.
Try flashing cwm again or flash touch cwm.

Superuser zip not showing up in recovery

I downloaded the latest superuser zip and native tethering zip and neither one is showing up in Clockworks recovery. I followed these directions from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpnVV2VqHR4&feature=youtu.be and got all the way up to flash zip and can't find zip files anywhere.
I placed the files on the root of the sd card and in the downloads folder in the sd card and still no luck

Can't find my recovery image on internal storage

I have an old recovery image on my SD from my old phone but where is the stock recovery image located on internal?
The method I'm using to find it is plugging into computer, searching for LG G3 then my folder of media such as alarms, titanium and random folders but can't find my stock recovery img.

Your recovery image file wouldn't be there... You'd need root.

I am rooted. I just used flashify to push twrp for my software version d850 and I'm still getting a secure boot error -_- Remove battery and the phone boots normally. That old recovery file was from using CWM on my last phone that's why it was on SD. I haven't been able to locate the recovery image on the internal.
