Starting yesterday my phone started freezeing during calls. I pull the phone away from my face during a call and after the screen comes back on I can't press any buttons or end the call. I have to end up pulling the battery to reset it. Everything else is working fine. Anyone have any idea what the world is going on here?
More info would help. Are you running stock or a specific ROM?

I had this problem while running stock deodexed roms. I switched to just the leaked roms and it took care of the problem.

Try doing a factory reset.
Tried factory reset, tried gtg's ultimate unbrick to go back to froyo and nothing. Also tried rooting and installing cyanogenmod but my phone kept booting i to android recovery mode instead of clockwork recovery for some reason

my friend has the same issue fixed by:
Wiping Data and doing a complete factory reset.
For the very first time I noticed this today. I think this has something to do with some random app we installed. Mine hung today even on incoming calls. A reboot fixed though.
After installing the ICS leak and rooting it, I can barely use the phone. It freezes constantly (for about 15-20 seconds) after any type of touch input, then I get an error message
"Unfortunately, the process android.process.acore has stopped"
Going to try clearing data, etc. but I'm not sure what is causing this, it might be the Play Store
Edit: I realized that the issue occurs after restoring using titanium backup. Not quite sure what specific app is causing the issue. Going to factory reset, wipe cache/dalvik, restore using titanium until it works!
Wrong section buddy but ya just boot into cwm and wipe cache and dalvik

I've got no problem. Keyboard lags a little but that's fine.

Amidst a bunch of problems
I've had, I've found wiping cache & dalvik and doing a factory reset cleared most of them up. Still have issues with Rom Mngr.
Wiped cache and dalvik but still having issues. What's happening is that it will vibrate once, freeze, vibrate three times, then say "Unfortunately, the process android.proces.acore has stopped." after about 15-20 seconds. I'll try a factory reset but I might have to end up reverting back.
re-flash the rom. I have had this issue before. You HAVE to re-flash.

Ok well it seems a factory reset solved the problem (for now). I'll try another Titanium Backup and if that causes any issues I'll probably go back to GB

factory reset solved the problems that everyone is having with serious ICS issues.
Well I think I found the problem. It did happen again but I found the source. After the factory reset everything worked fine. When i did a Titanium Restore, however, I then rebooted, but the phone froze (or so I believe). I pulled the battery and turned it on and experienced issues

Sounds like an issue with something that was restored then...?
Ok, even more issues now. Without doing titanium backup, just a factory reset, the home button doesn't work, the phone doesn't shut off without pulling the battery, and the lock screen doesn't appear. Reflashing the ROM through ODIN to see if this will work...

When jumping between versions(EX 2.1->2.2, 2.3.5->3.0.4, sometimes even 2.3.3->2.3.7), I've never seen a full TitaniumBackup restoration work. Literally the exact same issues you are describing.
At most I can restore games saves/app settings, and I have to use something like SMS Backup and Restore for text messages.

I guess I'll give up on the Titanium restore for now. I've only had this phone for three weeks so I don't really have any data that can't be replaced.
Thanks for everyones help

Were you using titanium backup?
I wonder how moving the data from /mnt/sdcard to PC for backup and then moving back to /mnt/sdcard after the ROM upgrade will affect the ROM stability...

Ah, I see.
I seem to have fixed most of the problems with before. I'm noticing a very slight delay with the home key, but none of the other capacative buttons, only home. Slightly frustrating.
if a titanium restore is truly the cause of your problem you should tryto restore apps only (not apps & data) you will have to re sign in to everything but you shouldn't have any freezing and such going on....
*note you will also lose any progress in any games and such but already your phone will be functional again!

Hey Guys - I am out of ideas and think my run with the charge might be coming to an end.
My phone is running FP8 stock ROM, rooted, with some apps frozen using TiBu. I have not issues with this set up since the update was pushed. I used tweak for a year or so, then went back to stock for FP8.
A few days ago my phone started to act weird. Widgets were not updating, apps randomly force closing. It was annoying but still usable. I decided to do a factory reset and then everything hit the fan. When I boot up the phone every app on my phone force closes and it is not usable. The "Setup Wizard" also force closes so I can not even get past that.
I have tried flashing other ROMs including Eclipse, tweaked, EP4 with pit, etc.The flash is successful but the force closes persist. I have also tried wiping data through stock recovery and CWM, but I do not think it works. I still see force close errors when the phone boots of apps that should have been wiped (twitter,TiBu, etc.). Anything else I can try? Pretty desperate as it looks like this thing might be toast.
Cliffs
Phone acting weird, reset data multiple times and everything force closes. Phone is not usable at all.
Tried wiping data but does not seem to work, downloaded apps still force close
Flashed different ROMS (both stock w/ pit and custom)
Still force closing. Help?
If the force closes are persisting even though data is wiped, you may have something nasty sticking around through dirty flashes (assuming you're flashing over the old). Make sure you clear all caches and if that doesn't work, it's a shot in the dark but you may want to try formatting the system partition through CWM and then reinstalling FP8 or whatever custom ROM you want. Whatever you do have backups ready...

Thanks for the idea. I am pretty sure I have already tried this but through CWM I will clear cache, davlik cache, data, and format system then try a flash of stock with .pit
Like you said, it seems like whatever is causing this is still sticking around even after all this clearing/flashing. Is there any way to clear these things through adb? Or would getting a log be worth my time?
If all else fails try odin.

I have tried flashing ROMS (stock and custom) through ODIN and to no avail. I am able to flash but it still does not overwrite the corrupted data. I still get force close errors for downloaded apps that should have been erased/over written. Even formatted my SD card just to be sure and didn't help.
Seems like my only option may be to somehow find and delete the data through ADB. Clearing through CVM and stock recovery is not doing anything. Problem is I do not know where this old/bad data is!

Never heard of PST when you posted that. Good idea, but I just tried a few flashes and the effect was no different than ODIN/CWM
This problem keeps getting weirder. So sometimes I am able to get through into the phone (even though I get force close pop ups every 2 seconds). I was able to uninstall most of the apps causing the FCs (not all because some are the system apps).
However, everytime the phone reboots the apps come back! Where in the hell are they being cached/stored to just magically re-appear after data wipes/flashes/un-installs. Seems like I have all these corrupted apps that I can not get rid of. Through terminal emulator I cleared data, and davlik but didn't help.
Have you pulled your sd card and sim then checked if it would boot. Also wipe internal sd from stock recovery

Yea, eventually I can get it to boot but the phone is not usable with all the force closing. The option to clear internal SD only seems to be available for the older ROMS, but I flashed ED1 and cleared it. No luck.
Think I may just be out of ideas on this one...
Pray to jeebus, might be your last option

Have you gone into Settings, Accounts & Sync and turned everything off? If you are back to stock then this could be the cause of restore of the apps. You are using the full EP4 odin - rom, kernel and radios - correct?

Yep I have turned them off. My settings also get reset however when I clear data, reboot, re flash etc.
Good question about the full EP4 ODIN. I have been using the ones from imnuts website, and have also tried the CWM packages from kvswim's thread in the development section. Tried Eclipse Beta 2 & EP4,EE4,ED1, FP8 stock. I also tried the CM10 ROM just to see if the change to ext file system would do anything. Not sure if any of them are labled as having rom, kernal and radios, but I would imagine at least a few of them are.
No matter what I do, I get outsmarted and all my corruped apps, settings and force closes remain.
I think you can skip activation after flashing ep4 and still get the ota's to get to fp1, fp5 and finally fp8. once there try activation, etc. Keep it purely stock no root. still fc's? IMHO your phone storage is hosed.

To skip activation - on the setup screen click on the Emergency Dial button. Once at the dialer, dial:
*#TESTMODE (or *#83786633)
That will "enable the soft keys", making it so you can then hit home to get to the launcher without activating.

Pretty cool! Didn't know I could do that. However once getting past that just about every app continues to force close including tw launcher.
Being that old apps & settings will continue to be restored after doing everything possible to get rid of them it must be a hardware issue.
Oh well, I will keep the phone around for the hell of it but guess it's time I look into something new.
I updated my phone through Kies and now it just hangs at the AT&T screen after Android does it's optimizing thing. I have no idea what's going on but I CANNOT lose this data.
The factory Hard Reset is NOT an option!
Where to start?

You have to do a factory reset in recovery. You won't loose pictures, music, etc on your sd card. You will loose all your apps which you'll have to reinstall if you don't have them backed up.

Did you have those backed up to Google? It generally does that by default. You're kind of between a rock and a hard spot. If you can't get past the boot screen you'll have to do a reset, but contacts and text will be lost if they're not backed up somewhere else

Flash a custom recovery through Odin then do a nandroid on the data, then download the firmware you were running and Odin that, flash custom recovery restore the nandroid. In theory u should be right back to were you were minus apps??

Hi, currently having issues with my Note 9 messaging App. I do not get notifications when I receive an SMS nor delivery reports when I send out. Everything was working fine then suddenly stopped.
I do know it's not the Settings alert as my notifications are on, badger is on, volume is fine, Do not disturb isnt activated. Also am having issues only with Messaging App.
Other text Apps are working fine and I get my notifications. Anyone know what this is about??
Thanks

Have you tried booting into recovery and then choosing the wipe cache partition option? This tends to solve a lot of bugs such as what you are experiencing.
If that doesn't fix it, the next step would be to factory reset the device.
If that doesn't work, the next step would be to reflash your current stock firmware via PC.

No, wiping cache only wipes cached data(temporary files).
You would lose data if you factory reset.
If wiping cache doesn't work and you want to try factory reset, you can backup your apps and data then factory reset the device then restore your data, but, you'll be taking your chances because whatever might be causing the issue might be included in the backed up data, restoring that data may cause the issue to return.
In some cases, when trying to solve issues, depending on the cause/solution, you may have to accept losing your data to repair the device, depending on what kind of data you are talking about.

It doesn't require an update, all you need is the same version that you already have if you can find a place to download it.
I suggest you backup your data then factory reset. Then restore the data, but, I'm willing to bet that the issue is being caused by a setting that you have changed, whether you realize it or not or it is caused by something else that you have installed on the device. If you backup your data, that setting change will also be in the backed up data and restoring it will just cause the issue to return. I suggest that you only backup your apps and their app data, your contacts and your pictures/video but do not backup your settings. Then factory reset the device then restore the backed up apps, app data, contacts and pics/vids. Then, if it is being caused by a setting that you altered, your issue should be gone as long as that setting is not restored with your backed up data.
If it is being caused by one of the other apps that you installed, restoring that app will cause the issue to return. One way to test if it is an app or something else that you installed, you can boot into safe mode, if the issue doesn't happen while in safe mode then you know it is not caused by something that you installed. If it continues even while in safe mode then a factory reset or flashing the stock firmware are the only solutions to your issue.
Or, find a copy of your current stock firmware and flash it.
