So I am rooted and everything and this is the first time this has happened to me. today my phone has died and since then it was not able to turn back on. I tried using several charging cables but nothing works. As of now it has been plugged in for about 20 minutes straight and nothing is happening at all. Any tips?
You tried unplugging the device before turning it on, correct? Do you get the battery symbol showing its charging?

My phone did this once. What I did was pull the battery, put it back in, charge the phone for an hour. Then I booted the phone into recovery. From recovery I selected to reboot system. Not sure if it will help you, but worth a shot.

Same happened to me, let die after flashing (dirty flash, but not sure if that was the culprit) and it wouldnt reboot after it had been on the charger for any amount of time, the only time I saw activity was after a battery pull I would plug it in and see the charging icon for like half a second and it would go blank so I knew it was getting power so I just used VOL+ Home Power to get into recovery, smooth sailing after that, but it was scary at the time!

im running a miui build from abt 2 weeks ago, idk how relevant that is... BUT i let my phone discharge completely til it died. now when its on the charger, it boots to the miui screen, sometimes even the lockscreen, then craps out. i get that the battery is too low to hold a charge, but wat can i do? i tried charging in download mode, but it eventually reboots. custom roms wont allow us to charge the phone while off, so anyone have any suggestions, as i am in this constant bootloop????????
Sounds like you need a new battery, the phone is supposed to shutdown long before there is damage to the battery but a completely discharged lithium battery may never take a charge again, but if you can't charge with the phone off then you may have other issues.
Id hop on Ebay and find a replacement battery. Them work from there

This is my experience i am on miui also and the other day I had the same thing happen and I just did the three button trick to boot into recovery and left it in recovery for about 15-20 mins then reboot and it started to charge. Hope this helps.
Yikes, I guess ill have to remind myself to never let my battery deplete. Although I thought it was recommended to let battery cash in at least once per month.

howd you get it to boot into recovery? when it boots, it goes straight from the circular dotted charging/loading symbol to my miui boot animation, NO samsung screen so i dont know when to let go of the power. ive tried at random times, but no dice. i dont have enough juice to unplug, boot into CWM, then replug

Pull and replace the battery and Hold both volume buttons and the power button at same time.... Phone will reboot, once you see samsung splash screen let go of power button while still holding both volume buttons and cwm should come up.
I Should have said while being plugged in. Mine was via usb

i never got to the samsung screen, but your first suggestion worked. when it booted to the lockscreen, i quickly unlocked, turned off wifi, gps, and adjusted screen brightness, then i wa able to boot into recovery and let it charge a minute... thanks for ur help & to the other the guy that tried
I've had this happen also with a totally discharged battery and CM7. Booted to download mode and wiped with Odin, reflashed CM7.
I had this happen with CM7 a couple weeks ago. A couple guys asked if I was using the actual Samsung charger and pointed out that it has some charging internals that work with a low battery situation that other chargers may not have.
So, were you using the Samsung charger or another USB power source?

Anyone that can provide any insight will be greatly appreciated!
So I was sitting on my couch watching TV and on my phone, transferring pics to the sdcard, and right after a file transfer it just shutoff. Went dark. I held down the power button and it vibrated, but nothing else. Same with reboot recovery (Vol up, power, home) and download (Vol down and Home). When I plug it into my comp it will vibrate about every 6 seconds or so and flash the battery charging with a loading circle and then dissapper, and then a battery charging logo with no loading circle than dissappear. By the time thats over it vibrates again.
I figured it was a soft brick, so opened odin and tried to get that to work, but there is no communication with the phone.
Does anyone know what is going on? I am pretty confused on what is happening, and any info will greatly help.
What rom?

So will it go into download mode? If not does your computer ask for any drivers when plugged in and what device name?

Have you tried charging it in the wall charger for 10 minutes?

The phone went stupid i get this occasionally. With the phone unplugged, pull the battery for a few seconds. While the battery is out hold power like u want to turn it on(probably not needed but doesnt hurt). Put the battery back in and hold volume dwn, home + power but when you get the warning screen press volume down instead of up. Phone will shut off and reboot to the system.
If this works but the phone goes back into the loop rather than booting, repeat the steps but at the last part hit volume up to go into dl mode and reflash the stock rom
Well apparently my phone wasnt really broken after all. It decided to go completely dead at 18% battery. I have never heard of this before 18% battery drop... But I let it charge for some time and it started acting normal, so I turned it on and it worked fine, just had 2% battery and charging. Dont know what the cause was, but battery is doing fine today.

I am rooted and my Verizon GS3 will not turn on. Not sure what happened. It was not due to flashing because I hadn't flashed a rom; I noticed my phone was off so I plugged it in and went back to it in about an hour and it still would not turn on.
I tried pulling the battery. When I plug the phone in with the battery in it vibrates and then the battery screen comes on but immediately disappears (the red power LED is never on either). If I pull the battery out while the phone is still plugged in the red power LED flashes on and then off.
If I plug the phone in with no battery the red power LED comes on for about 2 seconds and the phone vibrates; the LED goes off but then nothing shows on the screen.
Is this a brick? What can I do? I am going to charge the phone overnight and see if it turns on in the morning.
Thank you in advance.
Unplugged phone pulled battery sim card and SD card for a few minutes. Put all back in and then phone booted. Bizarre

How long have you been rooted? How did you root? How long after you rooted did this happen?
Also, try a new battery. I read in another thread that leaving the phone plugged into USB for a long period can bugger the battery.
I've had this issue a couple of times... Battery pull for a few minutes seems to do the trick.
Are you using the correct power cord and adapter. I had a nook once and when battery went dead a regular charger just wouldn't start it, some reason had be one came with to start right up.
I think y'all missed the second part that it booted

I have a 3 week old Note 10.1 with rooted ROM that will not power on. It was put on the charger overnight with battery depleted (should have charged it before it went completed out.)
In the morning I unplugged it and turned it off before putting it it a sleeve. When I went to turn it on in the afternoon, it doesn't do anything to indicate turning on or waking up. I have it on the charger again, but nothing shows to indicate that a connection to the charger is being made on the Note 10.1
I will need to return it to Bestbuy, but can't do it in it's current stage as it's rooted and has my personal data still intact. Can anyone please suggest any options, I tried few that I had read about (holding power button for 30 seconds and touching the screen, attempt to go into recovery) but none pans out.
Thanks
Dave
Try plugging it into the computer to see if it shows up. If it does, try erasing the cache on it to see if that fixes it.

Thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunately have the same result. Its seems as dead as a nail
Even in odin?
Plug in an otg cable with something lightey (led) to see if the mainboard doing basic jobs.
Can you get into either download (power/vol down) or recovery (power/vol up)? If you can get into recovery, try dirty flashing your ROM. If you can get into download, you should be able to Odin back to stock, though you will lose whatever data you have on your device.
Thanks for all the suggestions, greatly appreciated! Last night I decided to put it back on the charger one more time just to make sure it had juice in the morning to attempt the "finger on the screen and power button" option. It kept just flashing "Samsung Note 10.1" text for few seconds without going any further. I then decided to try "power button" and "volume up" option, took me to the "downloading" screen as it seemed like it was waiting for Odin download. I then proceeded to turn off the tablet and rebooting, which then took me to normal boot up. System indicated charge of 96%, this must have been what I have been reading online (Screen of Death or deep sleep.) I then did a restart to recovery, to perform restore from an backup that was done prior to root. After going thru all the clearing cache etc... and the tablet started to perform the restore, system shut itself and now I have nothing again.
When I was doing the restore from backup, I did not have the tablet connected to any usb connection, maybe that 96% battery was false or something. I put the unit back on the on the power charger again (thinking the battery is depleted again.) Very frustrating, I just want to unroot this tablet and take it back now to Bestbuy.
reminds me on what happened with my note. But for me I thought: "naah, you aren't dead. You're my new babe."
I flashed it immediately after buying and so far... odin always helped. With stock kernel most roms work. Some overclock kernels freeze my note or it isn't bootable 'til stock flash.
edit: you should add a [Solved] into your threadtitle.
Sorry not yet fixed, as mentioned its back on the charger and dead as a nail again.

Try plugging it in and using adb command to get the list of devices and see if it shows up.

didn't think Best Buy would take stuff back after 3 weeks. Thought u only had 15 days.
I believe premier members get 60 days for returns

Attempted to check for devices using adb, nothing at all listed under attached devices after entering "./adb devices" command. I think the board might have gone bad, as the tablet will not boot at all now, even after 8 hours of overnight charging, it's dead. Is there anything I can attempt to revive so I can unroot it, to take it back for refund? Thanks in advance
I'd take it back to the store and see if the Geek Squad can get it to power up. If they can't then they'll never know you rooted it anyway and you can swap it for a new one. Assuming that it's still in the zone or return/swap of course.

I was thinking of doing that, just was worried what the consequences might be if they would to find out it was rooted later down the line. It's still in the return/exchange window. I guess I'll be taking that chance with them, if they get it to boot, I'll be happy with that and re-store to stock.
So I just picked up this s3, it will turn on but shuts off halfway through galaxy splash screen. Boots into recovery and Odin mode just fine, prior to purchasing we plugged it in, got it to boot and did a factory reset, to clear privious owners data, and it went fine, did it reboot and took me to setup. Satisfied with its performance I went ahead and made the purchase, upon unplugging it shut off, as I expected if battery was indeed shot. What gets me is I let it charge, unplugged, booted, shut off at splash screen, plug back in and says its still fully charged. Boot into recovery and indeed, 100% battery. I haven't gotten around to flashing twrp or rooting, was wondering if anyone has experienced this?

Anyone got any ideas? Just got home, am able to boot past the splash screens as long as its plugged in but once I try to start using it (going through setup/tutorial) it ends up rebooting, computer can read phone in odin/recovery modes but don't see a point reflashing stock firmware if this phone was never touched, completely stock unrooted, just a factory reset upon purchasing. I've read somewhere about a stuck power button, is that common among the Verizon s3? If so ill pop it open and check it out.
Phone was already on 4.4 when I got it, I downloaded and flashed stock firmware (ne1) via odin, I got the whole way to the end of setup and as soon as it started loading the homescreen it cut off and went to the green battery charge icon when phones off. Everytime I try and boot it, she'll go through all the splash screens and ill catch a very short glimpse of the homescreen and it shuts off. Also it HAS to be plugged in still, or else it just shuts off halfway through initial "galaxy s3" splash.. I don't understand...
Have you tried a new battery? Even if it's plugged in it won't run if the battery is completely shot.
Also if you indeed have a Verizon S3 on NE1 firmware you will not be able to install TWRP as the bootloader is locked. You will be able to root, however.

The stuck power button seems to affect users IN recovery mode too, it seems like phone randomly reboots in recovery.
You can pick up a new battery from amazon for like $7 I think, its been a while, but might be worth it.
It could also maybe be some issue in transferring charge from the battery to the main board, meaning maybe bad connections/contacts.
Is it plugged in when it reboots, because that may indicate poor contacts, since the charger alone isn't able to power the device (ex I used to be able to take out my LG Ally battery when plugged in and it functioned fine).
Good luck!

Turns out it was the battery all along, found a battery that the contacts matched on (even though it was only 1650 mAh) wedged it in with paper and it booted just fine. Found a battery on craigslist that night and has worked great ever since, unfortunately PO had already updated to 4.4.2 so im stuck with that Thanks for the response, I just found it odd that the battery held a charge just didn't work.. maybe I should check the contacts on that and clean them.
