[Q] About the memory - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Good day
i bought yesterday o new phone sgs3 and its so nice but why the memory is only 11 gb and not 16 ?its made in VIETNAM

My Verizon Samsung GS3 is a 16GB model, yet my internal storage shows 12.05GB total space. I'm guessing that it's formatting that uses up a portion of the space, similar to hard drives for computers. From other threads I've read, an estimated 12GB of internal storage is typical for a 16GB GS3.

What's the highest capacity of MicroSD supported in the Captivate?

One of my friends is going to buy a Droid X and Verizon is offering a 32GB MicroSD for $100 with the purchase of a Droid X. My friend already has a 16GB MicroSd and does not want to spend any more money. He offered to get me the 32GB MicroSD from Verizon if I gave him the money. Does anyone know what's the highest capacity MicroSD supported in the Captivate? Everywhere I read it says "up to 32GB" supported which I "assume" includes the integrated 16GB.
its 32gb. it what most of all new phones capacity. it means whooping 48gb that we can have in samsung captivate. now thats alot of memory.

Could you please point me to a link where I can verify this information. I hate to waste $100. 48GB sound great, but I want to be completely sure.
I dont think you can use a 32gb. Everywhere ive read it says 16gb max is what is supported.
I think because the internal memory is actually an SD card itself, and the max sdhc standard can handle is 32. So 16 internal and 16 microsd = 32 -> full

Look under "SD card and phone storage" and it clearly has an "internal SD card" as well as external
which is why i mentioned the above
pdadb.net says "microSD, microSDHC, TransFlash
Supports High Capacity (SD 2.0/HC) memory cards with capacity of up to 32GB"
they could be wrong though. id get a 16 just in case. the proce on the 32 is retarded high for now.
I have a 32GB SanDisk card in my Captivate.
I bought it yesterday from Verizon's website for $99 including free next day shipping.
The captivate fully supports the SDHC format, thus it supports adding cards up to 32 gigs. Should be the same for any SDHC compliant device. The only exception to this are a hand-full of devices that support 4gig and smaller SDHC cards via ugly hacks.
On a side note, it's redundant to say " supports SDHC up to 32 gigs", since there will never be a SDHC card >32 gigs, but that's advertising for you

I have a 32 gb card now, and the internal of 16. Both show up at their correct capacities, and when I fill them all the data is accessible.
Ah, it's too bad that ALL the prerelease materials state the maximum SD size as 16 GB. I would have purchased a 32 gig if I had known.

(too short )
All Galaxy S devices can support external SD cards up to 32gb, that is excluding the internal storage. I have a 32gb card in mine, which I will never ever fill up.
Samsung's site, FYI, currently specifies 32GB support for the microSD card slot:
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones/SGH-I897ZKAATT-features
If you got $200 to spare you can buy a 64gb sdxc card and see if it works. I personally don't need that much space, but i can use that much money
The only time it wasnt recommended to use a 32G was with a MiUi rom but
i think that issue is fixed anyway
SDXC in captivate
The temptation of 80gb on my phone was too great- I caved and bought a 64gb SDXC card from sandisk for 80 bucks. I dumped a few videos from my desktop onto the card to test it out, and got a damaged sd card message, prompting to format it. I clicked okay, forgetting that the ICS build I'm using formats internal SD instead of external SD. So that hurt.
Next I tried a nook color using CM7. Got the same damaged sd card, but it was able to format it. I got a reboot as it attempted to re-mount it following the format, but following the reboot, it was usable. It played video and showed up as 59.6GB or something close. This newly android-formatted card wouldn't work in when stuck back in the captivate, however. It's possible that it will work on a different rom- one that's able to format it itself, but after losing the internal SD, I'm going to hold off on messing around with an old GB rom.

Bit confused about memory sizes!

Hi everyone!
I want t buy a Galaxy Note 10.1 3G & WiFi in the UK and am bit confused about the amount of memory! I will keep on searching and reading about it.
I can see on this site http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/mobile-devices/galaxy-note/galaxy-note/GT-N8000EAABTU-spec lots of information!
Memory
16 / 32 / 64GB
Upto available memory
Upto available memory
Upto 32GB External Memory
16GB / 32GB / 64GB Nand Memory
1GB SDRAM Memory
So my question is how do I get Galaxy Note 10.1 3G & WiFi with 64gb memory? Is the internal memory 32gb and I add a 32GB Micro SDHC?
I can see stores such as John Lewis selling 16gb models only..
http://www.johnlewis.com/231714901/Product.aspx?s_pccid=pc_gs_200_&
I get the feeling that 16gb, 32gb and 64gb models wil be available, and a further 32gb can be added with a microSD card.
Back to my searching! Any advice appreciated!
Edit - Maybe this answers my own question.. from Handtec

Ofiaich
Depends on ur location / country. Uk only has the 16gb version (nt quite sure)
Remember, that you can use 64GB cards too.
I am quite sure a 64gb version will never exist as it was with tab 7.7 ...........
It appears the 64gb version was bumped from their line up according to this article from pcworld
http://www.pcworld.com/article/2609...w_the_pen_sets_this_android_tablet_apart.html
Not sure, there was a 64gb version of the SGS3 but no-one seems to have in stock though Kogan did for a little while.
The bastards seem to release 16gb first then 32gb. REALLY bites as I would've liked a 32 or 64gb version sraight off the bat though the price goes up enormously....
Still, 64gb internal and 64gb micro sd card would be sweet...

Only 11GB Free?

Just unboxed mine, thought it was supposed to be a 32gb rom. Only shows 11gb free space, doh!
16GB, having only that much free is pretty standard sadly.

From what I understand the international dual SIM model will have 32GB on board, and no expandable storage option.
I stuck a 32GB SD card in mines and I am good to go. 10 class for $10.99 from SanDisk so no complaints over here.
IDOL 3 (4.7) 6039Y: Internal memory: 8 GB EMMC + 1.5 GB RAM. End user memory: 4 GB
IDOL 3 (5.5) 6045Y: Internal memory: 16 GB EMMC + 2 GB RAM. End user memory: 10 GB
Both - MicroSD (up to 128 GB)
Don't have info for the dual sim version.
yeah, it's pretty vanilla, actually.
Compared to, say, the Galaxy S5:
http://www.androidcentral.com/galaxy-s5-rom-bit-monster-taking-nearly-8gb-storage
And 16gb is more than enough with SD cards being so cheap now.
About 3 years ago, I went into the ocean w/ my phone in my pocket for ~45 minutes (like an idiot), and of course the phone was toast, but the data on the micro SD was unscathed; in fact, I'm still using that card.
That's normal. I would think people would realize this by now. With my Samsung Skyrocket I had 11GB free so it varies slightly depending on the size of the OS ROM. But who cares. I picked up a 128GB Micro SD for $70 on Amazon. Damn I have tons of space now.
What is end user memory on this phone.

That's not a bad thing with all that extra internal space + SD expansion. I still have my note 3 as a backup too because it's still my favorite note phone and its holding up well even to today's phones.
Not too sure how well the atom chip performs compared to the SD and hopefully it plays nice with all my backup of apps/games. These are the type of specs I need to see currently for an upgrade that's all I'm looking for right now

Well no, it's not bad at all. And the memory size should be an example to all. I really, really like the sound of that much space!
I'm just wondering how much of a waste of money it is to buy a brand new device with 2 year old specs, especially when you've already got one with identical (or better, in case of the battery) specs.
Your Note 4 is an Exynos version, right? Wouldn't it be easier on your wallet to just buy a Snapdragon version of the device you currently have? (I spotted it for €489 at Mediamarkt Germany today.)

Is there really a market for such large space amounts? I don´t know what you guys are doing with your phone but my internel 32 gigs are just fine (17 gigs left unused^^).

We leave the house every once in a while...
I don't own a car. I simply can't afford one. As such, I'm stuck with public transport. A whole 7 hours a day of trains and busses, and an average of 2 hours a day in delays. (As any Dutchy can attest, the NS doesn't know what it's doing.) Since I don't intend to stare at the ceiling for those 7 hours, I bring a lot of media.
6 hours of that I either have 2G or no signal at all, so Cloud isn't a solution. And I'm not attaching a portable harddrive to my phone that's as big as, if not three times as thick as, the phone.
I own a 128GB MicroSD. On it are the following:

Supernatural Season 4, 6.45 GB
Supernatural Season 5, 6.45 GB
Supernatural Season 6, 6.44 GB

Sherlock Season 3, 4,98 GB
(I'm screwed next year... Is that 256GB MicroSD out yet?)
Person Of Interest Season 4, 17,3 GB

Total space used: 119.25 GB
Free Space: 10 MB.
My internal memory has 4.55GB free, because that is purely used for apps and the occasional photo.
So no, a phone with 32/64/128GB internal storage and no MicroSD slot is not useful for me.

There is. But with a storage increase like this, usb3 is vital imo. Even on the n9005 i've noticed the micro sd slot is limited to usb2 speeds and only the internal storage is getting the benefit of more bandwith.

Well at least now that Google has allowed sdcard to be formatted and seen as internal storage on android marshmallow, the 8,16,32,even 64gb internals should be OK for most people if they have sdcard supported phones. I'm working on saving up for either a 200gb Sandisk microsd or a 512 regular sd using an adapter once this happens so I can have a monster storage device of a phone.

If they made 2tb sdcards it could still handle even that. Closest they got in sdcard size is 512gb, but you could use 2tb portable hdd via otg lol

Works like a charm.
The SDcard sizes they mention in the specs are based on what was available on the market at the time of the original release. Larger sizes work without issue, but the manufacturers don't go back to test and edit the specifications of every device. Hence they don't list newer, larger cards as compatible, even though they are.
I've even used the 128GB in my old S3, works perfectly.

Oh jeah!!! Thx!! Will buy one today! 64GB aren't enough...

S6 64GB Edition

I have an S6 with 64GB internal memory (unbranded/stock) but noticed the system storage is 8.98GB, can someone tell me if this is normal. Before this I had the Note 3 but that's system storage was only 5GB
Yeah I've got the s6 edge 64 GB and its about the same too. But with my s6 32gb it was only around 5gb too. And I would imagine the 128 GB uses 10-11 GB. Pretty stupid
