"Unknown artist" issue - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I add a song to Zune software, I click "edit" and change the title/artist, because Zune is like iTunes and reads the meta data (because just the actual name of a song isn't good enough apparently).
Anyways, in the desktop Zune software, on both "my collection" and "phone", the artists are plainly displayed.
However, unplugging my phone and going into the music app, all new adds are listed as "Unknown artist".
Anyone have any ideas??

I'm on stock 7.5, with Bell in Canada.

Yes, I have one (tested) - you have to add in the "Album" position - title of the album artist and save the changes.

TF3D Music Library - Finding Tracks

It seems to be the music library in TF3D is missing a vital component - with 16gb cards now available it is possible to store a large number of tracks (I have > 2500). Scolling through all songs/ albums/ artists etc in the library just doesn't cut it when you have that many tracks.
What is required is something like the alphabet bar to the right of the screen in Contacts (and where you add cities in the Weather tab), so you can quickly go to tracks starting with the right letter, and then scroll from there.
Is something like this possible? If not, it seems like a silly ommission by HTC as they have implemented the same kind of thing in other areas of the phone.
Any ideas?
Seriously - no-one else has a problem with this?
Mine won't even find the tracks on the memory card let alone require the need to search through hundreds of them!
All I have are the four HTC demo ones... even tho I've got loads of tracks on the memory card, the only way I can play them is by using WMP rather than the TF3D Library
Works fine for me here.
Have HTC spanish 1.90 official ROM, and an Sandisk SD 6Gb Class4 microSD card.
I have around 250-300 files in MP3/WMA format inside SD\MY Documents\Musica and have no problem using from TF3D.
I have some files in SD\Seleccion\Ringtones in MP3/WAV/WMA format and this files appear in TF3D Music too.
I'm waiting for my new 16Gb microSD card, so probably i put thousands music files into the SD and report back here what's going.
Cheers
do you have to have album art for the tunes to show in the TF3D music app or does it have a placeholder for mp3's without album art attached?

I don't have a solution to this problem, but I got the problem as well...
Right, so this thread seems to have moved on to people who can't get the TF3D player to recognise their music. There are plently of other threads about that - please check them out.
I have no problems using the player whatsoever - all 2500+ tracks are showing in TF3D, and I even got all the album art sorted out. If I only had a couple of hundred tracks there would be no issue at all. The problem is that with so many tracks TF3D is a pain to navigate through - if you want to find a track that starts with the letter Z it takes forever to scroll to it in the library.
I was hoping some enterprising soul with a bit of programming knowledge could develop something similar to the alphabet bar in Contacts (and where you add cities in the Weather tab), so you can quickly get close to where you want to be, and then scroll from there.
Does that make sense? Anyone know whether that might be possible?

Sorry, I think you're just not understanding what I'm saying. I have no problem at all with files and album art etc being recognised by the AudioManager. The problem I have is that when there are thousands of tracks, then navigating through them is a right pain, and I was hoping someone could come up with a better way of doing it.

I have been wondering this as well. I know that HTC produced the Random Access addon for Contacts. Does anyone know - or anyone able - to see if this could be made available for the audio manager?
Yes, I'm frustrated by this too. It would be nice to have the music in the tab, but it would be better to have a great little media player. Any reccomendations?
ya im frustrated by it too. i basically just use that tf3d player for random/shuffle playing.
if i want a specific song ill just navigate to it through file explorer.
kind of a PIA but oh well. maybe they will update it later on.
Audio manager long list issue
I am having same issue. With about 400 albums in my music audio manager there seems no way to scroll thru the list quickly. Hope someone tries and comes up with some kind of solution.

[Q] Zune Jumplist problems and other issues

Hi,
I have been using my optimus 7 for a couple of days now and I recently transferred bunches of music onto my phone. The music ist properly tagged in Zune and on the phone (correct artist, album, title, picture etc.) but for some reason the alphabetical jumplist buttons don't work. When I look at albums in the zune player I see all albums correctly under the corresponding letters, but if I click on any letter all letters are greyed out except for # .
If I press on # i always get transported to the bottom of the list.
I've already deleted all my music and resync'd everything, but no dice.
Also, I am not sure if this is related, but when I browse through my music and I click on genre and pick a genre, I don't get a list of artists and albums in that genre, but only a complete listing of all songs (sorted alphabetically, but this time without jumplists). Is that normal and by design?
Does anyone have any solutions to either problem?
Thanks a lot!
I'd guess that you have a not US-locale set.
I don't know why, but unless you set your locale to EN-US you won't be able to use jumplists in zune. And yes, this sucks!
Thanks for the tip. That actually worked. I had to set the display language to English (US), just setting the locale to US and keeping the german display language didn't work.
What kind of stupid bug is that? I'm gonna post it on answers.microsoft.com ...
Thanks again though.
But there is still no way to get an album or artist sorting in the genre category or? That's also kinda annoying.

[Q] Google Music player (Stock) Flickering

Now i have searched and searched about this problem, and the only answer i get is "Clear the data", which fixes the problem the first time i open it, but everytime after that i still have the flicker problem. It won't let me pick music because its like it just keeps reloading all my music over and over again and won't stop. Does anyone have a solution that sticks? I love the stock music player and i use Google Music Beta so i don't want to switch players, Thanks!
Hi, the app seems to do this when you add more music to your collection.
It's the application re-checking the contents of the folders, is all your music on the MicroSD card?
If so, safely remove it (tap the icon next to the clock) and remove the card from the slot.
Then remove the app data (application settings), then re-insert your card and re-start the music app, it will take a little while to re-read the MicroSD card, they are not the fastest things around.
I have 117 folders with 1578 files which amounts to 10.96G it takes just under a minute to rescan all the folders and rebuild my library.
The only issues I had with the stock player is the extreme way it manages the albums based on the mp3 tag info, it will give you a separate folder / album if the album artist is missing from some tracks.
I fixed mine on the tab with an app called iTag, it worked rather well.
Hope this helps in some way.
Thanks for the reply! all my music is actually on the internal sd of the transformer because I just got my micro sd card a week ago and have had my tablet for a while, so i already had music loaded on.
Mine does the flickering too in 3.2 stock, the version of the app is 3.0.2, were can I download the 3.0.1 apk to downgrade the app?

Sorry, man. Someone mentioned using an app called iTag to fix their issue, but I'm not sure exactly how it helped. Believe he said it had something to do with artist's names not matching up.
I've found that listing by song has no flickering involved, so gonna keep it that way until I (or someone else) either figures it out. Not much of a fan of some of the other players, so.
You should make sure all your ID3 tags are clean. For example, if you have a song artist that is Metallica and some of the files the artist name is Metallica and some are names MetallicA, where a simple case adjustment can help alleviate the issue. You need to also make sure that if one artist album has 15 songs and only 14 of them have cover art it will freak the player listing out like it's doing. Make sure all your ID3 tags are clean and precise and they all have the same cover art for each of the albums.

I had the same problem. Do you have album art grabber installed? I uninstalled that app and everything went back to normal.

[Q] Zune/song Question

Hello,
I have a Samusung Focus. Having the latest mango update. 7740.16.
Recently added some albums via zune. Not very familiar with this program. Anyway, my questions is: There's a way to have a random playing song in my phone in all my albums? For now I only see albums covers. There's a way to see all songs and tell this phone to play songs randomly? Like my Ipod do?
What's Smart Dj mix? My history is full of little logos (play sign) on each albums I tried this options... This options never work
On certain albums, I have a background image that's not the same album art. How this happen?
Thanks for your help
from the Zune home page on your phone click on music; you'll see are your songs in alpha order.
even easier: Just open the Musik+Videos app on your phone and hit the circular button on the bottom labeled "Music Playback", it'll play your whole collection randomly.
Got it! Yes! It's in the Zune section. Litle circle with 2 music notes. Thanks!

Open Windows Media Player
Find the "Play" column on the right hand side. Will be next to burn and sync tabs.
Drag and drop the contents of one folder of music into the column.
At the top you will see an option to save the contents of Now Playing as a playlist. Save it under whatever name you want.
Rinse and repeat for all other folders.
When you are done, plug you phone in and it should pop up in Windows Media Player. Select all the playlists right click, and choose "add to" sync list"
Then go to the sync list and hit the sync button.
Now when you fire up Xbox music you should have a playlist for every folder of music you had before.
