[Q] *Nova Launcher crashing during orientation?* - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Peace All,
I have the paid version of Nova Launcher and I have noticed when orienting screen (changing it from vertical to horizontal or vice versa) the launcher crashes by either freezing or displaying a pop-up saying "Unfortunately, Internet has stopped".
Has anyone else seen this when switching from vertical to horizontal (or vice versa)? Is this a known bug in Nova? I also notice it does this in Apex as well. In regular TouchWiz i dont get this error....smh

Nobody else is having this problem? I'm trying to troubleshoot to determine if there's something on my end.

I have a slightly different issue with nova launcher, I too have the paid version. I don't have issues with changing orientation however, when I connect Microsoft's new Bluetooth wedge mouse and try to navigate the home screen using it, it crashes every time. I tried it with Samsung's launcher and it works fine.
Not sure if the two problems are related.

Odd random artifacts/render errors on screen

Ok every now and then, I get random artifacts on the screen in the form of white lines about a quarter inch long. Usually around the edge of the screen, but occasionally even in the middle areas, it seems to happen mostly when moving to the homescreen from an app, usually a dark colored one. (Could just be me, and it is just random with no dependence on any conditions of color) It did definitely seem worse when using launcher pro.
Is anyone else having this happen or is this a sign of a bad screen or other part?
I'm hoping this is just render errors due to the newness of the tetra chip on android.
Other than the limited viewing angles, I've not had any issues with my screen. What ROM & launcher are you running?
This happens to me on every TnT build, and not on zPad. It doesn't happen often but I assume it's a bug with the TnT skin.
Running on tnt lite 2.0
Just grabbed up a second gtab, will test it out as well.
I'm seeing white horizontal lines too. TnT lite 2.0.0
I see this as well. I thought it was LauncherPro because I didn't see them with the stock interface or ADW.
It might be the Tegra OpenGL update in TnT Lite 2.0.0+, assuming that's what everyone is using. That driver was added mainly for Angry Birds, but perhaps there's some instability in there.
I am having issues with blank notifications appearing and being unable to clear them without a reboot. I've tried turning off notifications in ADW.

Yeah, I get them on zpad and assume they are from Launcher Pro.

Sounds as if this is a universal "defect" if this is happening with different ROMs and launchers. I've also noticed when I get the ghost notifications, I can't use the keyboard to enter anything, either. It just doesn't appear.
it happens to me all the time in the top edge of the screen, expecially around the taptap icon
It did happen in the old home screen app, BUT they actually reset the whole display up top if you watch closely (load the homescreen app and these artifact go away)
But I've only ever seen them at the top edge, so i always assumed it was a problem w/ their notification bar not updating the display properly.
I also noticed it doesn't seem to happen if the sound is dead ("obtainBuffer timed out" BS) - so perhaps the two issues are related (perhaps some memory issue w/ them writing to the wrong address, which is why the sound dies randomly, expecially if the display is off, it's clearly a driver issue)

If I remember correctly, this happened before the update on the prior TnT lite as well.

adw launcher: slow rotation (due to widgets?)

I'm experiencing very slow screen rotation when I re-orientate my Tab, especially on my main home screen.I have two widgets and a bunch of icon on there, and if I turn my Tab 90° it takes around 3-4 seconds to react, then I get a black screen for another second or two, then the icons re-appear, then another second later, the widgets.
I get the impression that the rotation is quicker on a homescreen with no widgets but full of icons, but it's still rather slow.
The original launcher also isn't really amazingly fast on rotation, but it's a good deal faster than adw. In the (native) browser, screen rotation is almost instantaneous, btw.
Does anyone have a suggestion how to speed up the rotation on the homescreen? It's annoying like this, because the Tab is often in landscape orientation when I take it out of my coat pocket, then I have to wait several seconds before it'll react to anything.
Is it using alot of cpu in taskmgr?

Not really. It's using quite a bit of RAM (~24MB) but only about 0.9% CPU.
Btw, here's a short video to illustrate what I'm talking about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sjpum75xpZk
(Sorry for the bad quality, shot with my trusty old G1 - btw, I'm rotating Portrait -> Landscape in the Video, but the video is rotated 90°)
I'm currently using adw.launcher and my rotation is perfectly fine with lcd density changes and widgets stretched and multiples on single screens.
It's odd that yours is so very slow. Did you root it and do the lag fix? Or do you have a scrolling widget active and have it forcing draw on orientation? Maybe use ti backup and check your running processes.

funny, I tested 2 widgets yesterday (1 clock + 1 bat) and i notice rotating screen would be sluggish, so i checked ADW cpu usage was jumping around 50-80%
i ended up removing both widgets, and have not experienced it again..
And if u go thru the adw-settings and turn off all the eyecandy and restart what happens then?

Rooted yes (z4root) but no lag fix...which one would you recommend?
Also, I just notice that it gets quite a bit quicker when I use one of the stock wallpapers instead of my own 1200x1024 image. Looking into that now.
Have u tried switching back to stock launcher to compare if the same issue apears, or ex. Zeam launcher?
i recommend no lagfix...never testet it.

Ok, so the wallpaper seems to be the main culprit. When using a stock wallpaper, both adw and the stock launcher perform about equally. I've also applied the OCLF, but don't notice any difference.
Did u notice the dpi for your custom background, maybe scale it down to 72dpi if its higher..
those who tested the lagfix on the tab did not notice anything either, but higher bench scores..
There is often a considerable amount of lag when switching from portrait (my main use) to landscape (mostly used for reading PDF or EPUB text, and sometimes for web-browsing). Clearly the refresh of shortcut icons and widgets appears to be the culprit, it doesn't seem related to background rendering. I tried various combinations of graphical settings, to no avail. I am running 200 LCD density, but I had the same problem with the original value (240).
Note: I use ADW.Launcher mainly because of the "categories/groups" feature, which makes it a *lot* easier to organize my 200+ applications. The other features are pretty much the same as all the other launchers.
People say the lag fix is unecessary since stock tab is quite snappy, but i recently uninstalled it and noticed a slow down with redraws on my screens with adw.launcher. Agreed though any launcher will slow down with more icons/widgets. Especially those that have been stretched by adw

ADWLauncher - I turn off the animations and turn the delays and
overshoot down as far as they will go. I also make the drawer
background flat black with no transparency. Makes for a VERY fast
launcher. I also set the "System persistent" option in "System
Preferences". That seems to help keep Android from killing it off.
Returning to home is dawn near instant now.
System animations (Settings->Display->Animation) is set to "No
Animations". Again, makes things faster and I get bored watching the
redraws.

Go Launcher EX home flicker issue

Hey guys,
So I recently started using go launcher ex and I really like it with the exception that whenever the keyboard was used, going back to home screen makes it flicker for a second.
The screen basically resizes but it's a visible hiccup and I dont like it.
Anyone else experience this?
I tried different keyboards but they all do it...
Any idea how to fix it?
I don't have that problem. However I did using adw launcher

[Q] Phone stops auto rotating

I've came upon a bug and wanted to see if anyone rise has encountered it. Randomly my phone will not rotate from portrait to landscape. Once chrome actually got stuck on landscape and wouldn't go to portrait. Disabling and enabling rotation seems to fix the issue temporarily. I can't seem to pinpoint what's causing it. Everything is stock still, the phone is rooted and I'm using the Google Now launcher.
Google Now Launcher doesn't let you rotate the screen into Landscape, you'll need Xposed + GEL Settings or Nova Launcher/Apex to allow it to put the phone into landscape mode while on the home screen.
Happened to me all the time in cm11 snapshot m9. Never happened o me otherwise.
I think it's a bug. It happened to me sometimes and it takes a while to rotate.

Question After Updating to Android 13 Navigation Bar Problem. Anyone else?

Hi All,
Ever since I updated my S22 Ultra (SD) to Android 13, I have a big problem with Swipe Gesture (Navigation Bar). When I swipe to return (back) sometimes it brings up the resent apps instead. It's very annoying. Anyone else has this problem? Any ideas how to fix it (hard reset my device is not an option)?
btw, I'm using Nova 7 Launcher.
It is a known problem with third party launchers and gestures. Nothing to do unless Google corrects it.
You can try to clear phone cache and or restart Nova. Maybe with forthcoming Nova 8 it will work better
