My Gingerbread Blaze 4G was rooted with Odin. I updated my Blaze 4G to ICS. I then tried the ODIN root, and bricked the phone. It would not move past the Android load screen. I now have a new phone, and it is updated to ICS. I want to Root it, but don't want to end up with another brick.
Any Idea's why it did not work, and how to root the phone now?

I think you have to have CWM prior to rooting, then just flash superuser.zip for ICS

This seems to have several more steps than the Odin root for gingerbread had. Regarding Superuser.zip, do you move it as a zip file, or unzip it first? Also, what is meant by the "root" of my SD card?
Thanks,
Tom
Don't unzip superuser.zip and root of sd card means to just place the file on the sd card not in any folders:thumbup:

OK, I just took it a step at a time and all went well. A question:
I use Titanium Backup, and use it to "integrate updates of system apps into ROM". This was quite successful before with Gingerbread and the ODIN root, but now I see the ROM is almost full. 573 mb and 5.57 free. Just wondering if there is anything I can do to open up some of that space?

Super one click no longer works on the G2X GB rom. The exploit was patched. Google purposely left the exploit in the Nexus One GB rom since it is a developer phone and they expect it to be rooted. Right now the only way is to flash CWM recovery with NVFlash and then install a pre-rooted rom.
I've been lurking for a while, and I saw others complaining about the camera after updating. Is there a pre-rooted rom with the LG camera on it, and where would I find it?
did u install the adb drivers also?

I rooted my g2x 2 days ago and I didn't have to install any roms. Just stock 2.3.3. rooted now. Then again, I'm a noob at this though. I installed your zip file and skipped all the command prompt stuff. I don't know what I could have messed up but I couldn't post of the dev forum because I'm a noob still.
I am totally lost. I rooted 2.2 and ran with Weapon. But now I have new g2x and cant handle the rooting process. Read everything I can and still I can't figure it out. I am going nuts with stock. It keeps eating by batter up. Help!!!!!!! I need it spoon fed.

All you have to do is install Clockworkmod with the One-Click Flasher (search for it) and then install my root zip in Clockworkmod (search for it also). It is very easy and simple to do.
Just follow this guide to get your 2.3 Gingerbread rooted and with a custom ROM.

I beg to differ. Ever since I got my 2.3.3 preloaded G2x from T-mobile, my computer does not even recognize a new APX device was connected. I've ran the procedure following step by step to the T several times, and it never pops any "S/W Upgrade" on my phone's screen anymore and does not show windows finding any new APX device. Can someone please tell me how I can make windows force install the APX driver without recognizing that the device is there? Is that even possible?

Flash a rooted custom rom or if you wanna keep stock rom just dl and flash the g2x root zip http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17398464

honestly, I think it's easier to just grab one of DrHonk's rooted kernels from the dev section and flash that via ODIN, and it also gets you CWM.
Just make sure you don't try to flash a gingerbread (2.3.x) kernel over a froyo (2.2.x) rom and vice versa
Can i do this running 2.2.1? Like updating from Froyo to this firmware, or do I have to update to something else first?
Dr Honk also has froyo kernels posted. Also you could try any of the great roms here as most of them are rooted. Just be sure to read the Noobs guide to flashing very carefully. In the Android developement section RaverX3X has posted the latest stock kernel + root + deodexed + debloat. Your best bet if you want stock.

If you just want root, you can use the latest SuperOneClick. If you want root/CWM/voodoo lagfix you can:
- Install drhonk's kj1 kernel via ODIN
- Install bhundven's KJ6 Heimdall One-Click
I suggest the latter as it's based on the KJ6 kernel & only needs Java to install.

The upshot to the CWM in bhundven's kernel is that it's CWM 5 which doesn't have the problem with mounting /system on GB ROMs. However, you can't restore your previous CWM backups with it, either.
Didnt work for me, just sticks on the fugomod screen.
Okay...
So I accidentally dropped my phone, and it was a TOTAL loss. It would not even power back on. I received the replacement phone today and followed through with the GB update via Kies Mini. Now when I attempt to root the phone, Superoneclick stops responding. Any suggestions?
Check out the threads in the dev forum for info on how to root. You will need to flash a rooted kernel.
I've attempted to root by several different methods, and no matter how many times, or which method I use, it will not root. I made sure that the phone was checked for USD debugging and for unknown resources. Anyone have any suggestions?
Edit: My apologies, as I thought that I posted the thread in the Q&A section where it is supposed to be.

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda premium
you can root it but gasp, you wont be able to flash the "official" kernel back to it since we cant dump the kernel without root... but you can flash the kl2 leaked kernel to it (same thing) but with sdcard workarounds and voodoo lagfix you need to consider a few things and its alot to say, but why bother, just use the rogers root kernel with cwm to flash a yummy rom from the dev section...
as far as rooting it without a kernel replacement well good luck with that. i will likely make a rooted heimdall package in a few days but it will have the kernel from the leaked rom (same thing) if that scares anyone with their irrational rationalizations...
why heimdall? well the mac users need some love since samsung and att wont give it to them.. its more reliable that that crappy samsung software be it kies or odin. and with the package system introduced in version 1.3 it is idiot proof..
if you must have an odin version make it your self.

weve know this would be a problem for like a year when the rogers infuse came out.
the rogers method works but it's just so many considerations and annoyances to tell people how to do it problem free. you have to assume they can creaet a file to disable the lagfix before hand and that they can extract and compress another file and depending on the kernel they use to root it they may need to edit one charachter of text. it all easy stuff but it becomes a lengthy post explaining it and then the next guy doesnt read what you already answered. ill wait for source code and fully compatible kernels with cwm so we dont have to worry about the extra process of reverting to a stock kernel, till then im burnt out on saying the same thing over and over and over.
OK before anyone blasts me yes I have researched for two days now and feel like I have been run in circles. I have searched XDA and Google to no avail and no I'm not a noob. I myself have a galaxy s2 skyrocket but recently got my wife the infuse and I'm starting to think that was a mistake. OK this is what I've found...
I type in Google how to install CWM recovery on the infuse and every thing I find says it must be rooted first.
Running Android 2.3.6 update thru Samsung kies....
So I type in how to root the infuse and what I find is if you want to root without flashing a new kernal you must have CWM to install a zip file from the SD.
Seems like one big circle. To root my skyrocket was easy as flashing a recovery image in Odin of CWM recovery and opening a super user zip file to root. 5 minutes easy as 1.2.3.
So my questions are..
1. Can I flash a recovery image tar of CWM to the infuse using Odin?
2. If so where can I download the tar file. I already have Odin 1.85 installed on my PC so I don't need that unless the tar comes in a one click.
3. If I can't how can I root and install CWM without flashing a custom kernel?
Please don't give links to nothing heimdel. The last time I used heimdel was with my captivate and I spent 3 days unbricking it.
4. Will the Motorola exploit added in super one click work with Samsung or harm the phone in anyway?
Thanks ahead of time for the help...

Check with jscott. He may know for certain.
Flashing kernel does not alter data.
I made several root via heimdall versions.
Instead of heimdall, basically, if you can Odin an insecure kernel, boot into cwm recovery, you can flash my cwm root package.
It also remove all bloats. Check my uclb3 root thread especially post #2
And as far as I know, on the infuse uclb3, you can't root without an insecure kernel flash in download mode.
Well it may cost a phone of I may soft brick it a few times but I'm gonna put my programming skills to the test and see if I cant come up with a one click root to 1. Make life easier for everyone and 2. To make it simple for the noobs to figure out. I'll let you know if my java VB and other languages I know can come up with something. For now, the normal exploits used for a one click root option don't work on the stock UCLB3 Gingerbread kernel. As qkster has mentioned, you need an insecure kernel to root UCLB3. Also, there isn't an easy way yet to change the stock recovery to CWM without using a custom kernel zImage that includes it. Check out this HOW-TO that I wrote up for an explanation of what it takes to root UCLB3 Gingerbread. This explains how to temporarily use a custom kernel to achieve root, and also explains how to go back to the stock kernel. None of this removes existing data on the phone.:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1603220
If you don't want to do all of the work required to root UCLB3 on your phone, then you can use qkster's Heimdall one-click packages or my Odin packages that he showed you earlier.
you can root the infuse with super one click... easiest way to just root it, and also might i add, the infuse is very difficult to hard brick, soft bricks are easy to fix, with odin or hiemdall but i haven't yet heard or seen a case where the infuse is actually hard bricked, now installing cwm is easy as well, just youtube it, very simple and that there should get you on your way to flashing

Assuming that you are talking about going back to stock Froyo to root with SuperOneClick? As of yet, you can't reliably use SuperOneClick on the latest Gingerbread release. Sounds like the OP wants to directly root UCLB3 Gingerbread.

You will need to look at some kernel work.

From Froyo 2.2.1, there is an official build GB 2.3.6 UCLB3 out for the Infuse.
You will need a computer though. Without a computer to restore your phone to stock from soft bricking, you should not be flashing anything. It may be possible for you to bring your phone to an AT&T store and have them update you if you don't have a PC. You will need a computer to root the GB UCLB3.
Where to start? Read the Q/A as much as you can. Then move into the Development section.

Would it be best to use kies to update to GB? I'm a little concerned as to what would happen to my Infuse all around.. What will need backed up?
I have titanium backup but if the app gets wiped wont i lose all my back-ups? For some reason it wont sync to my dropbox app force closes every time I try. Sorry about all the questions I'm just short on the amount of time I am able to browse threads at the moment but I do have use of a computer for awhile so that kinda helps.
I personally prefer using odin or heimdall. Don't quite trust kies and it often gives issues.
all mayor changes will occur on system partitions. Your internal sd will remain untouched, and there you will titanium backups. Just reinstall TB app later and restore apps, not data.

I personally prefer using odin or heimdall. Don't quite trust kies and it often gives issues.
all mayor changes will occur on system partitions. Your internal sd will remain untouched, and there you will titanium backups. Just reinstall TB app later and restore apps, not data.

Will this even work if i'm not registered to a network with the phone still locked? And I see that it will also unroot my phone which isnt a problem I'm just curious whether or not I can still root with super one click or if i need a different root tool?

It doesn't matter if your phone is unregistered and locked. You cannot use SuperOneClick on Gingerbread. What you should do is (this is the Heimdall version):
Flash this rooted version of stock GB:

You do that and you already have root.
If you want to then graduate on to Jelly Bean you must:
Flash ICS (follow directions carefully!):

Once you've done that, flash any of the JB ROMs you like, but make sure to read the directions carefully. I strongly recommend that you consult the Super Everything Thread for links to the ROMs and tweaks you need, particularly if you are interested in unlocking your phone.

I'm feeling kinda stupid..
Can somebody give me the right link for downloading Heimdall One-click w/root? For some reason I'm not able to get any to work on this computer.. I downloaded the ink provided labeled UCLB3 -DEBLOATED-ODEX - ROOTED - BUSYBOX- STOCK KERNEL on
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25526643&postcount=2
but am unsure if that actually is the one containing Heimdall or just the rom i'm flashing or both.. I'm extremely sorry about my noobishness of just posting all these already answered questions. I've gone and confused myself and have like ten tabs with different threads open please don't hate me. I have a bad habit of asking questions..
Oh and what apps do i need on my phone in order to flash? And I mean absolutely need. I've also noticed that most threads say to format my mounted sd card But i really dont want to do that if i dont need to.
It should all be bundled together. Heimdall is a java based interface so it should just open up. Sorry, it's been a long time and I'm an Odin person!
You don't need any apps on your phone. When you flash, everything on the small partition will be wiped (apps, app data, etc). Flashing will not usually wipe your pictures, videos etc. but it's always a good idea to back up. For now, don't worry about formatting anything. When you get to ICS, you'll need to format as it says in the instructions. Otherwise, if it works, don't fix it!
When you flash ICS and JB, all you need to do is to put the zip files on to your internal SD card (not the one you can take out). You can then flash from CWM (which will already be on your phone - don't download Rom Manager).
Once again thank you all. I'm running GB and loving it. My fiance is shocked at how much help I needed though usually I'm the person everyone comes to with their tech issues LOL. But I absolutely did not want to mess my infuse up. I thought I did but the issue was such a noob mistake that I had to smack myself in the face at my stupidity. Forgot to unzip the cwm ect folder I downloaded. XD not sure I'm ready to try ICS or JB yet though.

The odd thing is you could have updated to GB through AT&T and used mini kies. But at least you are now rooted and able to go to ICS and JB.
Read the instructions on the next step before moving on.

Kinda wish I would have done it that way... I wanted to get some practice flashing roms tho. And now my phone is bootlooping, computer says the device is incompatible I can only get into the samsung recovery even tho the rom i flashed had cwm packaged in. I tried to change my boot animation following the steps provided in my boot animation thread then again with the steps in tsqers rom thread I apologise if thats mispelled. I tried updating from sd but get a sign error Can get into download mode but same issue with it being incompatible usb device. I tried holding down the power button for 1 minute and then rebooting no luck there. I tried wiping data/fact. reset,... nothing. I tried wipe cache partition,...still looping.
The loop samsung screen two seconds, black screen 1 1/2 seconds,... over and over and over...
My battery is full. Any advice???

Which ROM did you flash and which CWM recovery can you see (which version)?
I used the http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...43&postcount=2 thread to get the rooted rom UCLB3 -DEBLOATED-ODEX - ROOTED - BUSYBOX- STOCK KERNEL.
Saved I think.
So I finally Got it to connect to my comp and re-flashed the rom can i get a link to an ICS heimdall one click package to flash before restoring anything and this happening again?
You should be able to find it on the ISET page.
