Qwerty Keyboard phone options

I have owned the HTC 8525 and now own the HTC Tilt 2 and I want to upgrade to another phone with a qwerty keyboard. I was wondering what options are out and/or coming out? I'm looking to get an android or something with WP7 and at&t is my carrier. Any input on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

Ow, now my help is little, cause I called you out? LOL
It was such a simple and easily googlable question that deserved a much worse answer (or just ignoring) then mine + it's so bloody broad that at least 20 phones or more would fit it.
I answered cause I'm looking for a possible TP2 replacement and after I saw your question I actually googled it and came up with this in 5 min. So it's not that hard.

As it goes, you might want to look up the Samsung S Pro. The standard S model has reports of serious GPS issues however, the S Pro has been delayed so maybe thats to fix these issues?

I like the Desire Z but it´s only Android
Hope HTC launches a hardware keyboard device with WM so I´ll be able to run both OS in one device!!

I've never heard of the S Pro but I think I kinda like it. I think i'm going to look more into that phone. Thanks

I doubt that. Probably HTC is finished with WM.

Two things:
1.) Why get a EVO? They're overhyped. The HD2 has better RAM (Evo: 512MB HD2: 548 MB) and runs WM, plus, you can boot Android off of it and that in my opinion makes it better because you can have two fully functional OS's. The only thing Evo has over the HD2 is the 4G that not everyone can get in their area, and an 8MP camera.
2.) Really, if you have a problem with the person's question shut the hell up and get off his thread. XDA is supposed to welcome people and treat each one with respect. You make people feel unwelcomed. Either help the person out without criticism, or get a life and stop hassling people for their questions. Dickhead.

Sure sure, but WinMo is a dead platform while Evo is a native Android device. If you can't get Evo, well, go for HD2, but otherwise you're just setting your self up for unneeded work/compatibility issues...
Also for most people just flashing a new rom is too hard, so running a dual-boot setup is out of the question.

And thanks to using the SEARCH BUTTON I found out that Desire Z/G2/Merge are the same phone: HTC Vision with different amounts of ROM! That clears up a lot, but leaves me sad.
Vision seems to use the Rhodium keyboard form, but only 4 rows??? Why do that? And no tilt? 800MHz?

Update: way to go darth_vato, more internet whiteknights to rescue the thread with their contributions! Now with free lame insults!

If you're looking for a hardware keyboard I'd recommend the HTC Desire Z because at 800mhz it's benchmarks are very near the 1ghz ones in HTC Desire/Google Nexus One. And it looks quite good with Sense UI.

Sorry, didn't realise you were also listing WP7. In that case, check out the Dell Lightining. In all honesty, as long WP7 holds up and does what I need (FULL Exchange) then this will probably be my next phone.
Only one serious concern, I understand that it might not work with SD cards at first release. I currently have a 32gb card full of tv progs, music and work data... this would be a deal killer for me Guess will find out for sure on Monday!

[Q] Flash Captivate back to stock

Does anybody know how to flash my captivate back to the original att stock rom? I installed that new froyo update but too much of the stuff i like is now missing. I would like to flash it back to the stock rom eclair and wait until the official release from ATT, besides it's really not much faster then the original stock rom anyways

The android market doesn't recognize this build so a lot of the apps that i had before i downloaded the 1 step 2.2 is no longer available to be me on the market. Not to mention still no dial from bluetooth headset support. Also I can connect to the att update software server anymore. So when there is an official update from android and att ota, i won't be able to get it. From what im hearing the official release will have bluetooth support so that i can use voice activated dialing. I don't understand how any cell phone company can make a phone now these days with out that already cooked into there stock rom. Most of all i can't believe i bought this phone knowing it did have voice acivated dialing...luckly im still within my 30 day return policy. I will be taking it back to best buy and trading it for the iphone 4. Reception might not be that great but that can be fixed with a case. At least it has voice activated dialing which is essential today. Not too happy with the captivate...but thats what i get for venturing out to try something new i guess...lol!!! i have learned my lesson...stick to apple....lol

Use Odin one click, if you can't find it with that much information you shouldn't be on the internet, much less flashing your phone...and really this isn't development at all, this doesn't even belong in general anymore due to the number of times this has been answered in dev, general, and the individual threads of the developers making the ROMs.

Wow...your pretty rude, but i have come to expect that from xda...anyways i'll be returning this piece of junk to ATT today...i was told this morning they are well aware of the froyo beta file out there and are telling folks that it's not the final release. They did offer to take the phone back even though i already flashed it. So that's cool Steve Jobs here i come!!!! im gettting a real phone...an iphone

If you come on here basically slapping devs, the android OS and Samsung in the face with your comments, you can't honestly expect the friendliest of replies. Good luck with your iPhone and its developmental limitations. Our forum here is to share knowledge and developments in each respective phone and OS field, not to just bad mouth a phone and OS because you decided not to properly research their capabilities. The search function serves its purpose well as do the plethora of FAQs around the forum.

Here's how i see it first of all you don't know Apple that well to advise that they have developmental limitations...obviously the stock price compared to google Android tells the story...enough said there. Number two I was just asking a general question and one your drones decided to insult me by calling me a "troll." I honestly don't see why you people get so upset at the mention of the iphone and Apple, who's on the defensive here? Im pretty sure Apple doesn't see android as a threat and im sure they are not on the defensive about the samsung captivate. At the end of the day...apple has been doing it a lot longer then Android and that's that. Most of the apps on the android market are junk because the market is not regulated like the App store at Apple so the so-cal developers can put anything on the android marke regardless to the app doing what it's suppose to do. Apple on the other won't allow developers to put apps in the App store unless it does what it suppose to do...is that what you meant by "develpmental limitations?" Because Apple won't allow you so-cal developers to pass off junk onto the App store like they do for android? At the end of the day Apple will continue to be the leader and Android will continue to try and keep up. Enjoy you Captivate, lets see how long your captivated by it.

They took months before multiple ROM's, custom Launcher's, custom App's, themes and so on were available. If you were a late bloomer to any of the phones (3+ months after release) then you would not know this and you would not know that ROM development does NOT happen overnight. So STOP whining. Guys like G8gorilla, persiansown and teamsilence (to name a few) are NOT here for YOUR benefit. They develop ROM's, MOD's, and changes because it is what THEY want to do to THEIR phone. They decide to share it with you because that is the type of people they are. Sometimes, some of us, donate to them to thank them for their time, BUT THAT IS IS, ITS A DONATION FOR A THANKS, NOT PAYMENT.
If you do not like the Development we have in just 3 weeks of release on this phone, then BUY A FRIGGIN NEXUS!!!!! And quit whining. If you bought this phone based solely on the development capabilities, then friggin learn how to develop, stop putting it on other members and again, QUIT WHINING!!!!

I bought this phone for the hardware and how much my MyTouch3G lasted. I will be patient and wait for the development, everyone should as well. If your not gonna be patient go buy a subpar G2 or N1.

This phone is not need to be in development. It always has all things. We got S-OFF and perma-root. We can delete crap stock apps, can modify system.
If will Android 2.3 released, we will get it, cause T-Mobile cares about customers last time (not all time, but release Android 2.2 for MT3G family - it's a great action)
What do you want whine-boys? SenseUI? MotoBlur? Samsung Home?
If yes, why did you buy MyTouch 4G?

Just little "hear hear" from the perspective of a developer. Devs are not here as your servants. if you want something developed, do it yourself. People will help you out, if you ask for help, and give the info needed to answer it.
If you're here to hassle developers, and flame, don't do it here. Developers do this for fun, and are more than entitled to abandon the device and move to one where they're more appreciated.
So don't shoot yourselves in the feet here folks. look after your devs, and they'll look after you.

You have a very good point, truth be told, I got the phone cause of the hardware and the main thing I want is stock android cause I like how it looks and want to use my wiimote lol but otherwise I can honestly say I am satisfied and if I knew how to develop I would but im grateful for those who do put in their hard work.

Just a qwik story of my luck with os upgrades and my journey to Galaxy R. Its last year i decided to buy a smartphone and my first was Wave 2 (Bada OS). I liked it very much and the only limitation is lack of apps. It was in bada 1.2. I waited so so long for bada 2.0 but it didnt came. Its time when we got leaked version of some other country. I flashed and its awesome. Just 3 days later, some one stolen my mobile (infact snatched). Then after another 2 months i got this SGR. During those time with Wave 2, i used to think only for bada i have to wait so long for an upgrade to 2.0 where as in Android, upgrades will happen more frequently. And here now im counting my days for ICS. Whereever i go, my bad i have to wait for the upgrade :laugh:

Thanks for the opening post and a good story my friend, although I am sorry for your loss! I had a Wave (1) at release, and enjoyed Bada a lot at the time. Unfortunately I now rely far too much on Google services every day, and so have to stick with Android. Not that I mind of course, it has been a lot of fun watching Android start off as a promising yet lacking alternative to Windows Mobile, and go on to become the juggernaut it is today.
I make a habit out of 'collecting' all the devices I moderate on XDA. I am very much looking forward to sourcing myself a Galaxy R. I have always been fond of the design :good:

Unfortunately I now rely far too much on Google services every day, and so have to stick with Android. Not that I mind of course, it has been a lot of fun watching Android start off as a promising yet lacking alternative to Windows Mobile, and go on to become the juggernaut it is today.
I make a habit out of 'collecting' all the devices I moderate on XDA. I am very much looking forward to sourcing myself a Galaxy R. I have always been fond of the design :good:

Yes. Ofcourse the dependency on Google services makes Android more vulnerable. Its great that u wanna add Galaxy R to your collection list, But with the Production being stopped for SGR, you may find it bit tough though to get one.

I decided to buy a Samsung Galaxy R I could take s2, so far I have no problems, but my country has no official samsung service and unfortunately if I had a problem with the phone I think it will be a problem because production was stoped, and no one here does not know that there is Samsung Galaxy R :/ But I'm glad to have this phone and to share experiences with people on xda, few of us, but we are very united and organized

Still Galaxy R is available in Market, you can get it from here they will ship it from Hongkong ...

my journey to the android world and the smartphone world started on 19 jan... when i bought my 1st smartphone which is Glaxy R... i am glad to have this phone and to great extent satisfied with its performance..... only black mark with this phone i think is very poor promotions by the samsung team, due which it is not famous consequently having poor development compared to other....... but this does not bother me a much because i m very delighted to be a member of small but great group of XDA Galaxy R.......through which i am able to know a lot about everything related to a smartphone....

this is my story
my dad gave me 1Lakh INR, and i got a new Apache RTR 180 and in the remaining money i got my SGR, in January
although i am not a heavy mobile user, i like my phone very much no matter what people say about this, n TBF, i really dont care about ICS
my bro has Galaxy Note, sis has Galaxy S2, i have SGR n Nokia N8
i am thinking to sell my SGR n get Note 2, once ICS will be released for SGR, so that phone value goes high

Well previously i was using Nokia e-71. i had previously never used touch phone..
while buying SGR, i had pretty 5-6 options..
I-phone 4s, SGS2, SGR, Moto Atrix, Nexus..
Ruled out 4s coz sim unlock wasnt out..
Ruled out S2 coz of price, Moto Atrix coz of brand..
I preferred SGR nly coz of Nvidea..and this Nvidea is really f***ing us...
but the experience is good, really njoing the phone..
i just bought an accessory OTG cable and is working nice..

Yeah, I think the announcement is due late August, I'm looking forward to seeing the design. Samsung getting better at keeping their designs hidden until release.

No until know we don't have these kind of issues , But we are afraid it may happen with ICS update which is scheduled by end of this month .

Of course, my apologies I would hope the command was removed by the time official ICS hits for the R. It can be removed from re-packed ODIN firmwares, so I'm sure one of our talented Devs will be able to cook up a 'safe' one :good:

JB OTA for Sensation request.

Hi.
As you probably aware, HTC has made no announcement whatsoever on wherever Sensation/XE will be getting JB. This is quite upsetting considering that phone is just over a year old and was TOP smartphone when it was released. What adds to the insult is that GS2 has been confirmed to receive JB when Samsung was originally a lot worse with their update policy than HTC. This was one of the reasons I and I believe many others chose Sensation over GS2. To me it looks like HTC is just waiting wherever people will start complaining. If not, why "waste" resourses to release an update?
So I suggest we start a campaign to get us (Sensation users) noticed. Basically, we need to make our presence visible. Twitter looks like the best place to do it. For the time being let's just try to get a confirmation wherever JB OTA is planned for Sensation. If the answer we get is no, we will take it from there.
Before we start, let's line up some rules.
Do not post abusive messages
Do not swear
Be polite
We don't want to come across as monkeys from the zoo, but at the same time we need to make our presence visible and heard, so we need to get as many people as we can on board. We need to be seen as intelligent and very vocal minority.

Well I think most people will agree with me and HTC DOES KNOW that a phone *cough* desire s *cough* has went through 3 sense versions and did not even have a flagship status.It shipped with sense 2.1 then it got and android update NEWER from the sensation with sense 3.0(even tho HTC stated that devices that were older than the SENSATION will NOT be able to run sense 3.0),then got ics 4.0.4 with sense 3.6 (yet the sensation still has 4.0.3 with the same sense version).Does HTC consider this fair?I think that they OWE us this update big time.I have bombarded HTC technical support a few times and I hope that our voice will be heard.So that is why we need to spread this thread and in the worse conditions we will need to start a petition.
