[Q] Considering Xoom 2 Media Edition - a few questions... - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just registered here as I'm considering a Xoom 2 ME 8.2 WiFi as a sat nav and music storage in my car. It will be permanently installed where my original headunit was - the h/u has already been sited to a different place below the dash. I have a few questions that I'm hoping existing owners can answer so I can decide if the Xoom will be a suitable purchase for my needs.
First, what is the size of the visible screen, i.e. the usable viewing area within the black border? The aperture within my dash is 190mm wide x 122mm high - if the screen fits within this area then I'm halfway there. I already know the external dimensions of the Xoom will allow it to fit behind the aperture.
Second, how good is the Xoom 2 as a standalone sat nav, and what apps can be recommended? Also, I have a Nokia N9 and find the Nokia Drive / Nokia Maps great to use - is it possible to get them running on the Xoom?
Any answers will be welcome. Cheers.

Anyone...?

The original Xoom is still the best of them all, the wifi only. After two years it is still at the top of the latest updates food chain only top by its little brother the nexus 7. the only 10'' with JB 4.1.2....

Thanks.
Now if I can get some answers regarding the 8.2 I will be happy....

The 8.2" xoom 2 me is much better now it's got Android 4 on it, but it's got stupid power and volume button placement (hidden on the back) which would make it pretty bad for using in a car I think.
Personally, I wouldn't buy one again, when options like the Nexus 7 are available.
I've not used it as a GPS I'm afraid, but I use Google maps on my phone all the time for turn by turn navigation, it works very well.

sat nav with gps or external gps

Hi all,
not been here for ages. anyhow,
i am getting a varioIV on saturday, i was wondering should i carry on using my sat nav (if it works) with the external gps unit or use it with the phones gps.
i ask because i have breifly read about lag with internal gps, and it would be no big issue for me to use the external still.
if i want to use the internal i can use it with google maps or something.
i am actually dilemming over the touch pro or touch HD.
any suggestions greatfully appreciated.
mahender
Use either depending upon the access of the situation.
An external unit will provide a faster performance and a better receiver thereby returning better precision. When not in a car and at a much slower pace, use the internal when you need a quick fix for a location.
GPS issue
Great Question, the forums are full of fear for the built in gps on touch pro devices! However the vast majority of these quotes are 2008, I just picked up an 02 serra (touchpro) and it works great, the first ever gps link on googlemaps took about 5 minutes and the second ten miles away was around fifteen seconds. My tomtom gps receiver has been gifted to my (happy!) eleven year old!
Hmm, if you ask me, I would recommend trying the internal GPS first to see whether it works to your liking or not, then buying an external receiver if it doesn't.
See, I prefer internal GPS due to sheer convenience. I only have to charge one device and I only have to carry one device. However, it is true that external GPS receivers are just way better. I have an i.Trek M6 GPS receiver that works so well, it can get a signal deep inside my house, and it can do it quickly. The Touch Pro, on the other hand, eh...
Concerning the Touch Pro/HD, I would prefer the HD, but that's because I love WVGA phones. They're definitely not for everyone, though, and I would suggest you research each device carefully in order to make an informed decision.
thanks for your suggestions guys,
i have co pilot from my old vario 2 days just move it along with each phone.
i will keep this in the car and use that. then when im out and about i will use google maps with the internal gps.
as for my decision, i like them both i am unsure of the size and practicality of the HD but love the screen and hope the interface is good.
but i really love the qwerty key vario 4.
and i know beleive the HD is free on t-mobile woohoo.
it is also the carrying aspect HD big (ish) and the touch pro fat(ish) i think i will go and see them in the store.
thanks....

[Q] What would make Infuse perfect for me ....

We have two Infuses in the family for all of two months now. While we still have two Iphone4s on the other two lines, we have had Iphones in the family since day 1 eons ago. I have spent considerable time looking to make the Infuse, not perfect, but 'comparable' to the way I've had my JB'd Iphones. I've made quite a bit of progress and I think this is where it ends, at least until GB which may change some things. I'm on Infused 1.6. Here are the remaining 'lacks'.
- Are they any lock screen widgets for the Android? I missed being able to control the music playbook without needing to unlock. I've on more than a few occasions fumbled to mute the music while trying to unlock and get to the app.
- Unlock screen should stay on longer than 1.5 secs. If you don't hit it right away, you'll have to press the power button again.
- Why ask for the unlock p/w again when I just locked it 2 secs ago? The Iphone is smart enough to have a internal timer set so it'll take you right in. I seem to be spending an awful lot of time unlocking my Infuse.
- Where are the Infuse docks? I have a bunch of ipod/iphone speaker/clock/charging docks around the house which I know I can't use but am I relegated to a life of using the phone jack and carrying the a/c charger ? There is the Samsung dock but it's just a pricey charging dock that costs as much as my last Logitech radio/clock/speaker/charger ipod dock.
- This one is more of a complaint; I spent almost $60 on apps alone just to get some decent working apps. With the iphones, there are better quality free apps that gets the job done. The equivalent Android apps just don't work as good as the iphone version, like CNBC stocks, IP Cam amongst others.
- Unbelievable but true, I got more work done with the iphone remote desktop app using the tiny screen compared to Pocketcloud on a much larger Infuse screen. I guess it's just the interface.
- And yes, when ATT was having issues with the cell tower in my area, the Iphones were still working better than the Infuses which couldn't even get any reception or data strengths. And the Iphone wifi strength is better.
- And seriously, I really want a physical home button. Feeling for the un-lit home virtual button is no fun.
- No complaints about the batt life for me, I'm doing ok with lowering the brightness and using Juice Defender.
- lack of a 'reasonably' priced app for syncing calendar, contacts and notes. The good one is priced at $50. I'm currently not even syncing anymore other than the occassional use of myphoneexplorer. Then I have to use Epistle with dropbox to sync my text files for notes. Tacky.
- While it's great to not use itunes, I have to remember to run Titanium backup occasionally.
But I really appreciate:
- the outstanding sound quality
- the really big sharp screen, great for reading and viewing movies
- great camera quality, in daytime
- not having to rely on itunes, copy direct, no format or screen conversion needed
- direct usb connection
- nice to have external sd but so far my current 32gb (16 + 16) matches my 32gb Iphones. The 32gb and 64gb sd cards are priced higher than the cost of the phone.
- tethering is one thing that costs less than with the iphone because it's included in Infused!! And it works great.
- Fantastic size, super slim
NE1 with any thoughts to how to address some of these points and make the Infuse even better for us?
Thanks
Why not try flashing 2.1.0 of infused? And also get go to 4shared.com and search the app name and put. Apk after it. You said apps aren't that great of quality so just download um from there without paying.

If you do this do us all a favor and not blame the ROM when you catch DroidDream. Seriously - pay for your apps!! Take some time to read reviews then make an educated decision before you whip your wallet out.
Good comparison! I have used an iPhone in the past but will never go back (FU iTunes). It probably makes life easier that I don't have to coexist with any iOS apps at home, so things like google calendar/docs can be my central location for things I need to share between devices, plus I have an always-on htpc that acts as a file/http server for whatever I need.
Docks will always be a point in iOS's favor though, because even with the rising popularity of android as a platform, the dozens of different physical form factors make it harder for third-party manufacturers to create hardware, whereas Apple releases a new shape of phone every year (or more), and even then they're close enough that a lot of iPhone peripherals can operate between the 3G/3GS/4. Just try to make hardware that can accept a Galaxy S, Infuse, Inspire, Atrix, Droid 3, Xperia, etc.
The Infused music player/lockscreen was mentioned but there are many other apps that will add widgets of any kind to your lock screen (widgetlocker is very popular, though I haven't bothered).
The Infuse does give you a few seconds' grace period if the screen turns off automatically before it locks, but I don't really know why you'd not want it to lock immediately if you push the power button. Maybe this is just different phone usage models between us, but aside from accidental pushes (stupid protruding buttons), I can't ever remember a time I've turned the phone off then wanted to unlock it within a few seconds.
I do agree that the lock screen should stay on longer after a push--maybe four or five seconds--but it isn't that big a deal really. It probably saves battery life though: since the stupid power/volume buttons stick out so much, they probably get pushed in my pocket all the time.
I hear a lot of bad things about Infused wifi, but even though I have only 2/3 bars about 20 feet away from my router, I keep one bar throughout my entire house--even up a floor and horizontally 30 yards away from the router. So I guess ymmv depending on how strong a signal you really need.
Not sure what you mean about SD cards--you can get a 32GB microSD card for under $50, and there are no 64GB microSD cards that I've heard of. SDXC is relatively new and allows full-size 64-128GB SD cards but they're still expensive (prohibitively so, if you ask me). If you're just comparing with-contract cost, a 32GB iPhone costs $300, while an infuse is ~$120-$200 depending where you buy it, plus another $20 for a 16GB microSD card to match the total capacity, meaning if you buy cheaply, you can spend less than half as much on an equal-capacity Infuse.
The bottom line for me is really the screen. I pick up someone else's Inspire or iPhone and the screen just kills me. I don't think I can ever go back to an LCD after using Samsung's AMOLED screens. #firstworldproblems
Lockscreen behaviors - Other ROMs have significantly more configuration in terms of lockscreen timeouts available.
Apps - the only non-niche apps I've found a significant urge to buy (and have bought) were TiBu and Tapatalk.
I purchased SetCPU, although probably would not have done so if I'd done a bit more research.
I also purchased Sixaxis Controller to allow pairing of PS3 controllers to my Tab 10.1, and once LB and I fix Cyanogenmod's Bluetooth, my Infuse too.
Nothing like TiBu exists for iOS. Same for SetCPU.
You can't pair PS3 controllers to iOS devices for gaming.
There are media and car docks available for the Infuse, I have the car dock for mine and it's excellent.
Physical home button - blame Apple for focusing on litigating instead of innovating for this one.
$50 for calendar/contacts sync??????? Um, you got MASSIVELY ripped off. The phone has excellent built-in sync capabilities. I sync contacts, calendars, and emails to my Google account 100% free.
Thanks! I forgot I did try widgetlocker back a few months ago. I recall now I wanted to keep my pattern lock and on the shortcuts, it would jump to the app like Mortplayer and then it will stall before it will bring me back to the lock screen. But it'll serve the purpose for now.
The sync solution we have are naturally tied to Google. But I've been syncing to Outlook forever and I want to keep that. Companionlink costs $50.
When I got my 16gb card, it was on sale for $25 but the 32gb card was more than $50. I've got to keep an eye out for a good deal and pass my 16gb card on to the other Infuse.
BTW, one more thing I sorely miss is the news alerts I used to get very frequently. The only setup I have and know of on the android is the CNN app which then just puts a 1 second blip on the status bar. Anyone know of a setup where it will do a pop-up alert?

Chinapad Momo8 My Impressions

I recently was given a chance to try out the Momo8 tablet. I'd like to post my impressions in case anyone has been looking at this tablet as a possible future purchase.
Here are the stats of this pad according to the site I purchased it from:
Model MOMO8 Tablet PC
CPU Rockchip 2918 Cortex-A8 Dual Core, 1GHz
Operation System Android 2.3
RAM 512MB
Nand Flash 8GB
Shell Material Plastic
Screen Size 8 Inch (4:3)
Type Capacitive Screen
Resolution 1024 x 768
Visible Angle 150°
All of this information seems to be accurate except for the fact I get some different Nand memory measurements. (Around the 4-5 gb range). Still it is a good amount of memory and I always use an SD card anyway. Let me begin my review:
First thing I'll say is that this is one of the best feeling tablets I've ever encountered. It has the solid feel of a more expensive tablet. Nothing loose or out of place. Nice square edges. Just an all around great feel. There are times the screen requires a second press to get action. Haven't quite figured that out yet. this A8 processor is blazing fast compared to the other tablets I've worked with. Plus it apparently has some kind of graphics accelerator installed.
I've had a Gpad G10 and a Eken m009 and this Momo's viewing angle is amazing compared to those. I can even see the screen from almost direct edge on viewing. Wireless is a bit spotty however. Sometimes it will lose the connection while not even leaving the same room. Battery life is pretty incredible though. I managed to use it on and off with only putting it into standby for the whole day the other day and still had nearly 60% battery when I got home. (And I left the wireless on by accident, so that's even more amazing to me). The only other problem I've found with my Momo is that the speaker is screwed up. For the brief moment it works it has clear, crisp, loud sound. But, usually it's completely dead. Headphones however are pretty amazing, clear, loud (so loud I've adjusted the sound well below the middle level.) Other things I've noticed are the cameras. The rear camera is amazing. Sure it's not a high quality 10mp it's only supposed to be a 3mp if I remember correctly. What really surprises me is that the front facing camera is supposed to be .3mp and yet I'm getting great, bright, good quality face shots. The only other issue I have discovered is that when you have it in landscape mode with the buttons on top, the lower right corner of the screen has some sensitivity issues when using an onscreen keyboard. Using a recalibration app fixes it for a while, but it goes back within a very short time. Ie: when pressing n and m I get spacebar. When I press m and backspace it registers as enter.
The capacitive screen is outstanding for tapping browser links. Very good reaction. Once in a while it's a tiny bit out of calibration though. The only screen calibration tool I've found so far that works is one that has you tap a calibrate button and then it calibrates itself. I'm not crazy about it and would like one that has you touch multiple spots on the screen and then calibrates on them.
As for the aforementioned weight, it isn't a light pad, but that's actually my preference. I like the fact it has a little extra durability to it. Somewhat thick, and kind of blocky if you get what I'm saying. I like the all around feel. It's just light enough that I can read for hours without really any additional strain.
All in all this is a durable, fast, really well designed pad with a few minor issues. Compared to the higher end pads I've used I think I'd rather save a couple hundred and get something that just works for what I want instead of getting some name brand that I'm paying for the name.
Additionally I managed to fix the keyboard problem. Downloaded Thumb Keyboard from Amazon Appstore fixed it right up and in fact is the fastest on screen keyboard ever.
it might have been worth it, if they included 1Gb RAM and at the very minimum included 16Gb internal storage
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
So far the memory hasn't been an issue. I would prefer that the nand memory was actually as much as it says it is. But, I have an sd card so it doesn't particularly cause me much of a problem.
1GB of memory would be nice, but I haven't had any issues where I've run out of memory yet, and I tend to run two or three things at once.
Do these work ok ?

I like mine. The only issues I've had so far are the ones that I detailed in the review. 95% of all the games I've tried so far have worked, books are nice (plus I finally got things working on the brightness adjustment for fbreader), and it plays music and video beautifully. I haven't tried hooking it to my television or anything, but that's not really an option I needed.
Bought one yesterday - coming soon, I hope!
I bought one yesterday from McBub.com for $145.99 plus the protective cover, making the total just over $150.
Great reviews on Slickdeals.net from one of the users, and after rooting a Nook Color last year and having fun with it (after checking out lots of the forums on here to root it), I figured I'd try this Momo8 out. I haven't used Ice Cream Sandwich, and it ought to be nice with a tablet this size.
Does anybody have any idea if there is a USB Ethernet adapter for it? I'm curious about whether I could find an adapter to have a little more secure Internet usage when I'm traveling. Otherwise it looks like a fun tablet to work with!
Not sure if there is an USB ethernet adapter, but the built in ethernet plug seems to work great. Might be a little confused about your question.
If you find out a good, quick, easy rooting method, or a way to upgrade the OS without losing features, please let me know.
Looks like mine has no built-in Ethernet - only wireless
As a newbie I can't post outside links yet... but McBub.com is where I bought the Momo8. Its description is Ployer MOMO8 Business Edition Tablet PC - 8 inch 8GB Android 4.0 1.5GHz Capacitive 2160P HD 3D Movie (CN109156), and there's no Ethernet plug on it that I can tell - only wireless access.
Whoops my bad, I just checked and you're right. I confused it with my 9.7 that I've been working on this week. Lol, should always double check. Yeah, not sure if a USB ethernet adapter would work or not. I'd recommend getting an adapter from ebay or a chinese site, so you don't invest too much into it. Then if it works you could get something better.
For sure - I've emailed a few sites to see if they have any info on it, and I may try to email Ployer themselves to see if they can recommend anything. Thanks!
if only included 3g support and gps....i think it will be nicer compare to branded tablets
Hello, I just bought one of these and it came with android 4.0.1.
I was wondering if it would be easy to flash to 4.0.3, or would I have any problems since it is a chinapad and maybe the version of android is customized to work with this tablet? I say that because some of the functionality in 4.0 does not seem to be on this tablet (like brightness, there's no auto brightness, no face unlock, a couple of other things).
I'm worried that if I flash this, it will mess up whatever settings they had with it. Thanks for the help!!
It looks decent. I would have gotten one too, but I bought a Kindle already.

Best Android Tablet under $200?

Hi everyone,
Looking for best tablet under $200. I guess that price falls under the chinese versions? I don't mind as long as it's proven to work. ***Really not sure why tablets are $600 or so while tablets and laptops are much cheaper (speak of price gouging).
So, please give me your experience with cheaper tablets. I have seen many of them on places like dhgate.com but really it's way too many of them so I can't decide which has a good reputation or not.
Thanks

For now, I have to give a nod to the 10" screen Lepan which has been running for $199. at Walmart The issue with this unit is only 512 of ram and Android 2.2. I use it as my portable web access in the house that also has its own built in GPS, so I use it out in the field as my Nav unit. Not a bad unit and it will run like 6 hours of video, if I remember correctly is has a 6000 mah battery. Like I said I use it for the web and for games for my 5 year old. But it all depends on what you want to use the tablet for.
Depends on the size you're looking for. For the 7" platform, I'd personally wait for the Google branded pad to come out. Rumor has it, it'll be an nvidia tegra3 running the latest AndroidOS with common tablet specs, for $199.
Reason I'd hesitate to get a kindle fire is the lack of external sd slot.
Thanks for the input guys.
Sorry, I forgot some main points:
1- It must run Android (One of the latest ones - upgradeable to ICS and Rooting capability is a bonus)
2- It would be really really great if it has at least a front facing camera (front and back would be just perfect).
***Can't wait for Google Pad as I have to buy now.
Thanks
I say you should try the viewsonic g tablet. Not the best screen but when rooted its worth it. you can find then on ebay or craigslist for $150-$200.

Both Viewsonic G Tablet and Le Pan II seems to be great options. But let's focus on cons:
Le Pan II: Apparently has wifi issues (That is no cool). Not rootable yet?!
gTablet: Missing GPS and G-Sensor. Has only 512 MB RAM and runs Android 2.2. Missing Microphone.
But, I am already leaning towards gTablet despite all missing parts. I am hoping I can add a USB microphone to it? (that is also my requirement.)
P.S. I can't seem to find any Le Pan II on the market. Everyone is out. Is it a hot item or was taken off-shelf due to Wifi issues?
Thanks again

If you want a 7 inch that will be upgraded to ICS, and has GPS and camera, check out the Lenovo A1. It can be had well under $200

Have had the phone for a couple of days now, and I really like the phone, but there is a few problems.
- Still some Chinese text here and there
- Unable to connect to PC. Device not recognized by two win10 computers.
- Lock screen, unable to turn of the roll of Chinese pictures.
- Play Store, unable to update or download via mobile network, only via wifi
- Clock widgets tend to not being synchronized with phone clock. They stop showing correct time
These are very unique type of Mobiles that i ever see in mobile market. Here in Pakistan Xiaomi Mobiles are coming Soon. The first look i explored on the internet was quite amazing. I am keeping its rank after i phone luxury looks and feel.I will definitely buy this phone if prices would not so high.

Hi, I can solve some problems for you.
Lock screen roll of pictures. Normally you can disable it if you put a wallpaper for lockscreen. Or to click on the small icon in the top right corner of your lockscreen.
Play Store, not able to download on mobile network. You need to disable the download limit in the settings of the "downloads" app.
Love the phone, thought the build quality was excellent BUT my daughter dropped it and the case has split. I dropped my htc one, galaxy s, nexus 4 and a whole host of other phones a 100 times and there was no problem. Really disappointed
Only other major issue is the phone gets locked out "this phone has been lost" many many times a day. Sometimes i cannot use it for hours at a time because activation does not work.

When she dropped it, it hit the top right corner. The metal body is VERY weak apparently (see bend tests), so soft it pushed in. So now the back glass panel on that corner is separated from the aluminium frame. It always felt fragile, the glass is so smooth is slides off even grippy surfaces! BUT it is meant to be a flagship top of the market phone so i did expect more. This is the problem when one of the largest smart phone producers doesn't sell in the internet exclusion zone (Australia & NZ). No repair centres, no accessories in stores probably no warranty. Long wait for new cables, cases and anything else.
I'm starting to see LOTS of software issues now too, MIUI has always been that way though. Be good when some custom roms come out. I guess you get what you pay for. It's no Galaxy s7, HTC one or LG that's forsure.
Buyers remorse right now haha...
Oh, 3 days old too... (not my daughter, the phone )
Having brands like Samsung, LG and others ask so much for their flagship phones is not an excuse, they sometimes cost 4 times less to build than they sell for.
But thinking you actually get a top of the line phone for prices like these (not talking about the prices those online import shops ask for the devices when you're not living in asia, but the actual prices Xiaomi sells the phones for) there has to be some compromise... this time it's mainly the build strength.
The moment you get this phone, GET A CASE asap! You don't want to break it when accidentally sitting on it :'(
Want a less break prone version? Get the 128 ceramic version.
Got the phone damaged? YouTube hugo barra tearing a mi5 apart, good reparability.
Love this phone! But you have to handle it like a Chinese vase!

Love this phone. I was skeptical at first as their past phones were less than stellar imo but the specs at this price point was too good to pass up.
Have had it for around 2 weeks now, and though still minor quirks with software here and there, all around very happy and haven't run into any major issues.
Great battery life as well. As to be expected, the body is quite fragile but as I'm very careful with my belongings, I don't think I'll be dropping it *knock on wood*
The Mi 5 will be replacing my S7 - call me crazy, but the only downside (only taking into consideration features I use) I've found so far is that the camera is obviously worse. No biggie since I always bring my DSLR for any proper events, and this way I can save some money.
Here is my Real Live Review:
I've bought a Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro 128 GB (at tradingshenzhen.com)
I've unlocked bootloader, TWRP, rooted, and installed Mi 5 Global Developer Rom 6.5.30 (recently updatet itself to MIUI 8 6.8.11)
The Hardware looks and feels nice. Only negative point I could mention: After some days of use I recogniced a clicking sound when I softly push the center of the backside glas (ceramic).
The Software in my opinion can compete with Samsung (there I have the direct comparison) and other brands. In some Points it's better, in some points it's a little behinde the concurence.
My impressions in detail:
Positive:
+ An amazing feauture added in 6.8.11 is the "Dual Apps" function in the settings menu. If you have dual sim, thats a extreamly important feauture. Otherwhise you cannot use WhatsApp on both Numbers. Whit MIUI 8 you can. And this whitout using WhatsApp clones as WhatsAppGB (which I used bevore MIUI 8). (I don't know if other DualSim Devices have this feauture)
+ I've bought the Nillkin Backcover (black) and the Nillkin Flipcover. (Dark Grey) Both are great but the Flipcover is quite glossy, what I dont like.
+ I've bought an USB-C to USB 3 (female jack) cable to connect external storage (for TWRP-Backup etc.) and other devices. I wasn't able to save the TWRP-Backup direct on the external storage, so I made an internal backup and copied it to an external fat-harddrive. The main thing is, that I have an external backup (whitout MicroSD-Cardslot a little challange)
+ IR Sensor to controll HiFi and TV! ZaZa remote is my favourit App to use it.
Negative:
- No possibility to distinguish the SMS-Inbox of the two mobilenumbers. Sure, there is this little "1" or "2" behind the date. But what I would like to see is a "Dual App" for the Messages-App, a possibility to filter the messages by mobilenumber or two tabs on top of the Display where I can choose the two SIM-Cards. Anything like that would be verry nice!
- MIUI don't give me the possibility to add an App-Link into two different folders on the homescreen =(
- No support of ExFat formated storage via USB-C (nor NTFS or HFS+) Any tip to solve this is verry welcome!
- E-Mail App does allow me to add different arriving IMAP and outgoing SMTP server but have NO possibility to add a different login for these two servers. A verry important feauture for me. (My Samsung was able to make this difference). Any hint is verry welcome! I've tried some other E-Mail Apps but didn't find one that can handle all my needs.
- No MicroSD Cardslot. You could say it's not necessary when you have 128GB internal storage, but for example the backup-process would be easyer with it.
Fazit:
Alltogether I am happy with my new device. It is, what I was looking for. The devices helps me to disassociate Job and Personal contacts whitout a second mobile. In some Videos i've seen, that it is more or less repairable and the replacement parts are available in the "bay", an important criterion I guess.
Edited:
When I was writing text, I had this annoying red lines under words which weren’t known by the System. I wasn’t able to find a menu-point to switch them off. My search engine helped me out with this Link. You have to open an adb shell and enter „settings put secure spell_checker_enabled 0“. With „settings put secure spell_checker_enabled 1“ you can switch them back on, if needed.
short mi5 review
Really happy with mine after 3 months, had a bit of pain getting off the vendor rom and figuring out all of the battery optimizations and over zealous permissions.
Once I sorted all of that threw the google now launcher (app drawer back ,Yuss !) on it and very happy. Super snappy after my nexus 5x and the camera is great. Low light could be better but you just use the HHT low light mode and its all good. Battery life is great, I am usually at around 40% after a full day. used a nilikin case from the start and love it, the size and weight is perfect.
The rear fingerprint sensor on the nexus was way better but the mi5 but that is mostly positioning, in my opinion rear sensor wins. Great phone and very happy with it, the only issue was software niggles which are getting better and better.
Loving mine too. Really impressive phone for the price.
I have the phone with international ROM, camera is very good. But it has some bugs.. Like Bluetooth and Gmail connection which sometimes fails and always connected to Mi stuff which i dont like. Its not that fast either, im thinking to try out the nexus 5x because its in the same price region.

Thanks for your review.
What are the features of the e-mail app that make it superior to other e-mail apps such as Gmail, Cloud Magic or Blue Mail ?
Just updated to Miui V8.. I will watch out for bugs.

@onestyle, TWRP backup by OTG works fine, I use pendrive and I did not see any problems.

I've listet the eMail App as an negative point, so no superior things. The point is, that I was looking for a Mail App which chould cover my needs some years ago, and didn't found one. When I bought the Mi5 I just tried the wrong apps. BlueMail works great for my needs, thanks a lot for the hint!!! Cloud Magic I wasn't able to configure a different SMTP login (the function is existent, but it didn't accepted my server).

Nice, that its working with your config. Could you tell me/us which version of TWRC you are using? Maybe my cable is the problem, where did you got yours? Kind regards
