[Q] Bricked/fixable? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I rooted a d2vzw yesterday and it was running like a champ on stock root. Today, when I went to install AOKP build 4 on it, I get a screen that says, "System software not authorized by verizon has been detected on your phone. please turn off your phone and take it to verizon for help."
I tried using odin to save it but I cant get odin to recognize the device. So, that being said, why did this happen, how do I get odin to recognize the device, and is it possible to save?

It happened because your boot loader is not unlocked. I'm not sure why Odin isn't recognizing your phone. Are the drivers installed? You will need to Odin back to stock so try different cables or a different computer.
Sent from my S3 running Eclipse 2.1

As already stated, double check that you have the proper drivers installed from here http://tinyw.in/Fdoz
Also, try another USB port, avoid using a USB hub if possible (perhaps try a port on the back instead of front, or opposite side if on a mobile).

[Q] Official 2.2 Captivate update failed...

I tried using these instructions
httttp://ars.samsung.com/customer/usa/jsp/faqs/faqs_view_us.jsp?SITE_ID=22&PG_ID=2&PROD_SUB_ID=557&PROD_ID=558&AT_ID=368733
to update my phone.(US ATT Captivate SGH I897) I got all the way through to the main juicy bit, the phone goes into downloading mode and it starts trying to apply the new firmware Kies downloaded. After a few minutes it says it failed and I have to do "emergency recovery."
Emergency recovery also fails. Now when powered on I get the picture of a phone and computer with ! between. I can go into downloading mode. What should I do?
Use ODIN3 HERE to go back to Eclar and then re-run the update via Kies Mini provided by ATT.
Be sure to remove your SD card from the phone.
I fixed it...
Didn't even need to go back to eclair with odin. All I did was plug my phone into the first USB port on the motherboard, (I had been using one of those crappy ones on the front of a desktop) ran emergency recovery, and then my phone booted into 2.2 just like magic. Guess it actually succeeded the first time..
Anyway in the future if anyone has trouble with samsung kies mini, make sure you're on a real USB port and not one attached to a card like mine were.

[Q] [ROOT] Do Not Have Ed1 Or 2 Have EE4?

I Just Bought My Charge And Want To Root it Right Away.
Firmware: 2.2.1
Baseband Version:i510.06 V.EE4 SCH-I510.EE1
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9
Everyone Is Talking About ED1 + ED2 But My Phone Has Neither It Has EE4 Or EE1. I Rooted My Samsung Captivate With Zero Effort But This Is Getting Confusing. Also Ive Never Used Odin Before And Do NOT Know How!
All Help Would Be Greatly Appreciated.
P.S. When The Heck Are We Getting A 2.3 Gingerbread OTA Update?
no your good...the process for rooting the phone is by flashing CWM/voodoo thru Odin and then a Kernel...after that you can flash a rom if you want. Some roms have a form of CWM/voodoo built in while others dont. I will attach links for the methods below for the ones with it built in

USB Problem
When i Turn My Phone Off And Hold Down The Volume Button As Explained To Me The Something Should Show Up In Odin. My Computers USB Ports Seem To Be Blocking It Somehow Because It Says Drivers Not Installed And USB Malfunction Please Install Drivers. The DRIVERS ARE ALREADY INSTALLED! Whats Going On. I Feel Like After Every Step The Hill Keeps Getting Steeper!
turn off any anti virus and firewall programs and try using another usb port
Tried It
I tried all four USB ports on my laptop and shut off all running processes in the background. This phone just refuses to be rooted!
I had to use a different PC when I did mine because the USB just wasnt working right..Im no expert though just trying to assist..is it just not installing the phone drivers?
1) Make sure all anti-virus/firewall programs are disabled
2) Make sure the correct drivers are installed
3) Make sure you aren't using an extension cable
4) If you are on a desktop use the back USB ports, if you are on a laptop make sure it is plugged in to its' charger
5) If nothing works you can head to the library or a friends house with a flash drive and see if these steps work on their computer
hope you get your Charge rooted :]

[Q][NS4G] Problem with fastboot and fixing phone.

Hello, I recently decided to root my phone and place Cyanogenmod on it. When I did that I realized my radio was no longer working. In an attempt to just get back to a working phone for the time being I flashed a rom that I believe was just for the Nexus S and not Nexus S 4G. Due to my stupidity I am unable to communicate from the device to my computer using USB. When I attach the device to the computer nothing happens. The device does not even appear in the device manager. I have tried on multiple computers as well. On top of that the rom seems to have put me back into the stock recovery. If anyone could help me figure out just how to get USB working again I would be very appreciative.
I should note that I can still transfer files to the phone using the sd card or via ftp.
Thank you for your time and help.
Change the USB cable?
Yes, forgot to mention that. I have tried 2 cables both of which work on other devices.
What if you hold in the middle of the volume buttons (i.e. both up and down at the same time) and keep holding, then plug in to your usb port? It should come up as download mode. If it will do that you might try using Odin.
Or try a different machine perhaps?
are the drivers the same for the S as the 4g?
do you have clockwork on the phone or have you tried to run recover by holding volume up and power?
just throwing things out.
Hello, I appreciate any and all suggestions and help.
I have Odin downloaded and installed, but the computer can not find the device so Odin can not do what it needs to do. This is even the case in download mode.
In terms of recovery I am on the stock recovery. I was on clockwork but made a small mistake and now am back to stock.
I know if I can just get the computer to see the phone exists I can fix it.
If you can find the full OTA package for NS4G, you can try putting it on the SD card and flash it via stock recovery.
Also another thing worth trying is connecting the phone to an Ubuntu machine and see if it's detected or not.
I have tried looking for the original full OS. I will continue looking, but the different OS thing is a good idea I did not think of. I will attempt that now. Thank you.
I installed Ubuntu and the Android SDK and Ubuntu was unable to see the phone as well. I am going to keep searching for the original firmware to see if that will fix it. Thank you for your help so far, it is greatly appreciated.
I have found the only rom my phone will accept now is
Android 2.3.4/GRJ22/KRKC1 Radio/KA3 Bootloader
Which is for the M200 variant. This apparently the Korean version.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy 5 (GT-I5500) won't connect to PC!

I've tried a few other forums but haven't got any replies, I guess since the Galaxy 5 isn't such a popular device. I figured if there's anyone who can help me they will be here though.
I wanted to put CWM on it so I could get a CM7 port on. Unfortunately it's just about impossible for it to get detected on USB. I've installed Kies (and even the generic USB drivers found in the SDK). In 2 days I only got it to connect once, and then I went and bricked it.
The one time it finally connected I ran Odin and tried loading CWM onto it. It still hadn't finished after half an hour so I figured it ended with an error that was never displayed. So I unplugged it and as expected - brick! I can get into download (upgrade/firmware) mode so I think it can be fixed if I can get CWM on it (and just install the CM7 port I had originally intended to put on).
Problem is I cannot get the darn thing to connect! to my computer I've tried two separate PCs, one running Window 7 x64 and another running XP x32. Is there a a certain process of connecting things? I haven't ran across anyone making mention of one.
Has anyone else experienced USB problems like this with Samsung phones? Would it even be possible to flash CWM on after it's been bricked like this? When I boot (normally) all I get is an image showing a phone and a PC with and exclamation error connecting the two. Please help!
Try to look for stock firmware on the forum.xda-developers.com and flash via ODIN. You need to be able to put the phone into download mode, so maybe get an USB jig. That should do the trick. Odin has to recognize your phone. First of all right click on the ODIN executable and select "Run as administrator" on windows. Plug the phone in the DL mode and wait until it appears as active in Odin. Then flash the ROM and pit file. (Don't use ODIN one click). If ODIN does not recognize your phone try a different USB port or reinstall Kies. The Kies trick was which I used and it was able to recognize my phone.
Thanks, martin0176. I can still manage to get the phone into download mode - it's getting recognized by a PC that's the problem.
Could you tell me more about the pit file? I only have an ops file.
Try a different cable. I was having the same problem on the Samsung Continuum and it turned out that the cable was working for power, but not for data.

Hard brick but computer makes noise when I connect it

I deleted the original text because I have a few important updates.
As I pointed out in the original text, Odin did not detect it. I don't know why but I decided to try Odin 1.8.5 and it DOES detect it. 3.0.4, 3.0.7, and 3.0.9 do not.
It starts to flash but always gets stuck at "SetUpConnection...".
It isn't a problem with a usb port because I've tried all and the fact it's literally a brand new computer.
It isn't the charger because I've tried 3. But granted they all are the exact same type of charger.
It isn't a problem with Samsung drivers because I've installed two versions and Odin picked up nothing when I uninstalled one to install another.
It detected the Galaxy Victory again after I installed the different Samsung driver but still stuck at "SetUpConnection..."
I do not know if I keep messing up on the download mode combo. I saw before you can enter download mode if you take out the battery, plug the phone into the computer, remove any sd card or sim card, and enter the combo and press up like you would if you actually saw the screen.
I've always been bad at entering download mode, don't know why.
Yes, I know about usb jigs and I actually bought one before I got my new computer but I lost it because it's so small and I literally cleaned my whole room attempting to find it and just can't find it.
I know the usb jig I had did indeed work because it put my Galaxy Tab 3 into download mode so if nothing worked it wasn't because of the usb jig.
There's obviously something that's different between Odin 1.8.5 and the newer Odins to make it recognize on 1.8.5. I actually have flashed with 3.0.4 on my Galaxy Victory before. That's how I got TWRP and it was using my old Acer Aspire One that doesn't work anymore.
I'm running Windows 8.1 and my new laptop is a Tashiba Satellite C55.
Any help would be much appreciated.
